panthers_freak (We’ve Got the Runs — Baseball Reasons) had a big week and stretched their lead atop the overall standings to four, 117-113, over the Rank Railheads (RCL 40). Both teams have 115 league points, but, as was shown last year in the tense battle between Random Italicized Voice and Better Lucky Than Good, the League Competitive Index can make the difference.

We’ve Got the Runs have been led by 5 Top 40 players, according to the Razzball Player Rater. #7, Justin Verlander (drafted in round 2) heads the group, followed by #9, Edwin Encarnacion (21st round), #28 Robinson Cano (1st round, 9th overall), #32 Josh Willingham (acquired April 21st with Adam Wainwright for Tim Lincecum and Emilio Bonifacio), and #34, Michael Bourn (5th round). Plus #45, Craig Kimbrel, selected in the 7th round, who was traded August 2nd for Alex Rios (#24). Wainwright also looks to be a key contributor the rest of the way.

Bombo Rivera (Prague Defenestrators — Conshellation Prize) and Higgins (Gobias Industries — Cust Kayin’) are tied in 3rd, but slipping out of contention, now 11 points out of first. Next are Pliny the Elder (Myrtle’s Acres), The Fugs (Epic Beardmen Division), and Team Birdis (RCL 3) with 105 points. A group of 5 sit another point back, including Atomic (Wood Street Wonders — RCL 46), Team Beefcake (Fantasy Booze Cruise), captainpyper (RCL 3), Pig Charmer (Grunge Ball — RCL 16) and MattTruss223 (Rube Waddell’s Shiny Objects — Magnificent Mustachioed Men).

The ECFBL increased their competitive index to 105.65, over three points better than everyone else. 6 leagues are hovering around 102: Cracking The WHIP (102.21), Original Recipe (102.09), Ones are GOOD right? (102.09), Baseball Reasons (102.00), RCL 9 (101.89), and Magnificent Mustachioed Men (101.79).

Expert League: Ryan Carey (Mastersball Carey) and Dalton Del Don (RotoWire Del Don), are tied for the lead with 89 points, while Tim Dierkes (P.F. Flyer) is just 1 back as the tight battle continues. The Mastersball team struggled after the loss of Melky Cabrera, hitting .218 with just 3 home runs and 27 RBI, but they only lost 2 points in the standings. DDD added 5 points to catch Ryan. Rudy lost the 4 points he gained last week, and is now 10-and-a-half behind the leader. The Gambler had another fine week on the mound (8 wins, 4 saves, an ERA of 2.94, and 1.07 WHIP), but was less than stellar at the plate (.248/5 HR/30 RBI). Grey also had nice pitching (4 wins, 11 saves, an ERA of 3.15, and 1.25 WHIP) and pretty good hitting (.301/50 Runs/13 HR/45 RBI/7 SB), but it only translated into a 1-point gain.
