Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

I know, you’re mostly thinking every minute of the day that my number one contribution to the world is my mustache.  Number two is my fantasy baseball ‘pertness.  Number three though, you don’t know, but I reveal it on today’s podcast.  It’s both uncanny and very, very uncanny.  Two very’s.  Nick’s mind is blown, but will yours? (Yes, it will.)  Also, we go over Mark Trumbo and how he will probably hit 178 homers this year; we touch on Tyler Skaggs in the non-sexual way; I explain to the world why I want the Mariners to win the World Series and drop some drool on Taijuan Walker‘s punim.  Oh, and Nick can’t believe marijuana is legal in Colorado.  Hopefully, he can now pass the Razzball urine test.  It’s not your standard urine test, if you test negative, you get fired.  You must test positive for some kind of drugs.  Anyway, here’s the Razzball Podcast (now with me even more renaissance):

    Do I trade: Altuve/Fister/Balfour

    for

    Bailey/Estrada/Buehrle

I have depth at 2nd base and RP. I just really want Homer Bailey. I loved your ranking analysis that had Homer predicted at 14-6 200 K’s and 200 Innings.

    Thanks Lord Alrbight

  4. Mr. Glass says:
    (link)

would you drop ubaldo or Kennedy to pick up and stash AJ Griffin on the DL or should i just stand pat with those two schmoes

  5. Al koholic says:
    (link)

just traded for some trumbo,i non he started hot but surely he can hit better in the 2nd half this year

    • deuces says:
      (link)

@Al koholic: what did you have to give for Trumbo? Most owners are pretty high on him.

      • Al koholic says:
        (link)

@deuces: do to a draft mishap,i needed a 1st baseman bad,so i traded Bautista, figured its easier to fill needs at the outfield position from waivers

    • mauledbypandas says:
      (link)

@Al koholic: hopefully he gives me a going away present today!

  6. Jon says:
    (link)

If Zimmerman hits the DL and I need to add a hitter for my DH spot (Arenado will move to 3B), any of these guys stand out?

Howard, Lind, LaRoche, Asche, Freese, Plouffe, Kelly Johnson, Al Escobar, Bourjos, Ozuna, Almonte

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Jon: Is he on the DL?

      • Jon says:

        @Grey: I don’t know. He’s not in the starting lineup…

  7. Game of Throws says:

I’m sure this has been commented already but…. Adam Jones!

  8. deuces says:

Which trade do you like better looking to trade away 1b for OF(points league that has -1 per k):
    1. My Hosmer/Headley for his Choo/Frieri
    2. My Pujols for his Hosmer

      • deuces says:
        (link)

@Grey: oops…2 was supposed to be Pujols for Stanton.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

          I’d take Stanton

  9. costaricanchata says:

    does kluber throw a shut-out today ?

  10. oaktownsteve says:
    (link)

Here are two odd pieces of odd.

During his career Greinke has thrown a pitch at every velocity in 1 mph increments from 67 to 96 mph.

Kelly Johnson is one of only 3 left handed hitters in the history of baseball with at least 1000 ABs that has a higher OPS against left handed pitching than right. Enos Country Slaughter is another one and by golly I forgot the third.

    • MattTruss223 says:
      (link)

@oaktownsteve: Ichiro was the other, heard that tidbit yesterday while listening to the Yanks game.

That Greinke note is pretty awesome!

Someone’s asking Strasburg and Springer for J. Fernandez. Leaning no because it’s a points league with 10pts for wins but there’s been grumblings about Stras’s velocity so far this season.

    Sit tight, right?

    • Rags says:
      (link)

@Rags: I have Stras and Springer, if it wasn’t clear. Also, we have minor league spots so Springer isn’t taking up a bench spot.

Mat Latos is dealing with elbow inflammation.
That’s the reason he was scratched from a scheduled rehab start on Tuesday at Triple-A Louisville. Latos is working back from early-spring knee surgery and will obviously be out now for another couple weeks. He allowed five runs — three earned — over four innings in his first rehab start last Thursday at Double-A Pensacola.

        (link)

@Grey: And what do you think? Can i drop Moore? I know i know you told us before about Moore but i still wasted a pick on this guy. Now he is DLed but i think he is not gonna be right this year hopping from one DL stint to the other and erratic performances inbetween those DL stints.

        • Grey

          Grey says:

You don’t have a DL spot?

          • Moscowitz says:
            (link)

            @Grey:

I have but i really see no point as i dont expect him to pitch better than the hottest pitchers on our waivers. In an 8 team league, you always find decent pitchers who perform well over a whole season. You still think i should DL him?

            • Grey

              Grey says:
              (link)

I don’t understand why you can’t DL him, but drop him if you like…

              • Moscowitz says:
                (link)

@Grey: As i said, i have the opportunity and can DL him but i waste a DL spot that i might need for another, more important player later. Zimmerman as example. Would you personally DL him? Do you believe he could come back from that DL stint and be better than the best pitchers on waivers of an 8 team league?

                • Grey

                  Grey says:
                  (link)

If I owned him and had a DL slot, I would DL him

                • Moscowitz says:
                  (link)

@Moscowitz: Another reason is, he is not DLed on Yahoo yet so i very well could lose Eovaldi or Haren to someone else while waiting for Yahoo to finally put him on DL.

                  • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:
                    (link)

@Moscowitz: that last part is really the only reason to not DL if you have open slots, unless you like seeing open DL slots.

The only other targets are OFs and my OF is already loaded. Should I just hold on until one of my players comes back? I already have a hard time finding playing time for my bench player (Beltran, Pence, Pagan, Brown).

    (link)

@Grey et al: I am trying a new strategy where I hoard closers in an attempt to block others from accumulating saves. For example, even though I am set at closer, I still pick up guys like Broxton and Kelley to prevent my opponents from amassing saves. This is a 12 team season long roto keeper league with a deep bench. Anyone have any advice for how to be successful in this strategy? Even though I can only start 4 RP, I’ve got 10 closers on roster. Punted saves in the draft and have picked up K-Rod, Valverde Hoover, Broxton, Kelley, Lindstrom, thus far. Got a few closers at the end of the draft also (SAGNOF ). No free agent budget and first come first served waivers. Thx!

    • Long Bawls says:
      (link)

@Bill Lumbergh: Keep doing what you’re doing. I did that last year and it worked, in conjunction with other things. Just don’t go too nuts–you wanna win the category by not too much, and you don’t want to suppress the value of saves so much that you can’t trade your guys for more valuable pieces, which should be an important goal.

If everyone has 25 SV and you have 160, you might not be able to get that much for 1-2 closers because people know they’re not going to win the category, and that you can always trade someone else closers too. So if the gap starts getting too wide, look to trade. Also: saves are saves, so trade your best guys first (assuming you don’t need them for ratio help, etc.).

I’m starting to feel wary of the waiting super long to draft pitchers strategy. Looking like a train wreck so far, I’m aware its early but these guys aren’t Scherzer or King Felix struggling, these are guys who could just end up being bad.

    I have:

    Bailey
    Teheran
    Liriano
    Fister
    Walker
    Scheppers
    Paxton
    Lohse

I know Scheppers is droppable and Lohse although I think he’s at least stable. So for the question: Are there any guys you could recommend targeting that have the combination of struggling early, lack of superstar track record, low public confidence, and upside? For example Homer Bailey is a guy I think fits this as I have worries about him and someone could swindle me for him. Who are some guys in this mold that I could potentially target on other teams to shore up the pitching staff?

    Thanks!

    • Deck says:
      (link)

@Deck: This is a question for anybody since I know it is not a quick one. I don’t expect a researched answer just looking for some targets.

      • goodfold2 says:

@Deck: yr first 5 SP are fine (2 are injured), find streamers doing well and hold for a while till they’re not.

        • Deck says:
          (link)

@goodfold2: I hear you, just never been a Bailey fan I just took the leap of faith on him, Liriano has been a great waiver pickup for me in the past but as my number 3 scares me, Teheran could be great but his lack of track record scares me, same for Walker except even more so. Fister is the only guy I’m very confident in and he is injured. Just looking for a stabilizing pitcher that an owner might be down on.

          • goodfold2 says:
            (link)

@Deck: with those pitchers liriano would be your number 3 by rankings.

            • Deck says:
              (link)

@goodfold2: So since you seem interested in this, I just picked up Gyorko. Have Machado on the DL and he has one year left of keeper eligibility 15th rd. (we keep up to two players drafted after the 14th, each player has two years you can keep them). You think it is worth giving up Machado and his keeper year and rolling with Gyorko if I can land someone like Annibal?

              • goodfold2 says:
                (link)

                @Deck: certainly.

I wouldn’t own Scheppers and Lohse on any team… There’s gotta be better SPs available…

      • Deck says:
        (link)

@Grey: I know, but I honestly don’t know which ones are better, slim pickings. Would you consider trading Machado for Annibal? He has keeper eligibility 15th rd next year which is big since we only can keep 2 guys and they have to be drafted after the 14th. I just picked up Gyorko.

Paxton looks legit. Bad first inning, but he’s pounding the strike zone, and his stuff is nasty. Don’t know how he had a walk problem if he pitched with this approach in the minors.

    • Shoop Da Whoop says:

@Shoop Da Whoop: I jinxed Liriano in his start, and Paxton just did something to his arm. I think I’ll just shut up about pitchers during their start.

    Questions for the neutral color:

    1. Drop Blackmon for Bourjos, or Jim Henderson? I have 3 bench bats, but I have a feeling Henderson could be closer again sooner than later. He looked really good tonight.
    2. Trade Abreu for Justin Upton in an OBP keeper? don’t say “sure” cause I want to know if I absolutely should or shouldn’t do this. Instincts say yes.
    3. I know you like both a lot. But should I drop Plum for Honeydew? I just cant resist Honeydew’s sweet, sweet upside.

Grey, you really go above and beyond for your commenters. Thank you for all that you do.

    • Theodore Donald Kerabatsos says:
      (link)

      @Flunkie:

      1. I I’d pick up Henderson, drop Bourjos. Don’t need that many bench bats, Hendy could close later
      2. I would do that trade, especially if you got a quality CI or 1B to fill in
      3. No idea who Plum or Honeydew are

          There was once a Honeycutt.
          And a Strawberry.
          And a Lemon.
          And a Quisenberry.

cole hammels was dropped on my h2h 12 teams mixed league is expected to come back in late april, my team is the following:
    C-McCann
    1B-Pujols
    2B-Cano
    3B-Beltré
    SS-Andrus
    LF-Crawford
    CF-Kemp
    RF-Puig
    U-Abreu
    BN-Leonys
    BN-Headley
    BN-B.Miller

    Anibal Sanchez
    Michael Wacha
    Nathan Eovaldi
    Benched permanently Ubaldo Jimenez
    tim hudson
    Tyler Clippard
    Cody Allen
    Joe Nathan
    Shawn Kelley
    José Valverde
    David Robertson on DL
    hisashi iwakuma also on DL

Can he be useful for my team?, i could add him and drop lets say… ubaldo and wait for hammels to heal, plus we have 2 DL spots the other on my team in this category is dave robertson, but i can perfectly dispose a pitcher like ubaldo and wait for hammels/iwakuma to fully recover and get more stability, Mike Minor is on waivers as well with kind of the same diagnose than hammels. What would you recommend?

oh, and norichika is adviable on my league too, i can add him in order to fill the empty spot in my roster.

    this three come out

    add Hammels/Minor, leaving Ubaldo?
Wich one of the two is more convenient?
    norichika is a good option?
