Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Easy now, pardner.  We’re not doing podcasts anymore, but we are going to start doing a daily radio show as of next Monday.  Our fantasy baseball radio show will live under that link-ma-jiggie that I just linked to.  Seamless!  To give you an idea of a schedule, Nick will be taping every day at around 10 PM EST and uploading to Razzball Radio.  He’ll have all the usual Hawks of Schmo on over there, including Rudy and I.  I’m in for two days a week, but that will fluctuate to more or less depending on schedules.  This won’t be the last time I tell you to go over there, so you can put this information in the same place you put all the other info I’ve told you that you’ve chosen to ignore.  Too bad you didn’t ignore the part where I said to draft Brad Miller, huh?  He’s a crumb-bum!  On today’s podcast, I dissect Nick’s poorly-managed RCL team, my thoughts on Justin Morneau, David Wright and we spend about 315 minutes talking about Masahiro Tanaka.  That’s all after I tell you about my absolute worst get-rich scheme.  Anyway, here’s the Razzball Podcast (now with a final adieu which will lead you to asking next week, “This is kinda still a podcast, why are they calling it a radio show?”  Good question!):

  4. Jimbo says:

Work was light today and I listened to the ESPN podcast. First off anything is better without Matthew Berry but wow was this still a shitshow. Tristan Cockcroft might be the nerdiest person I have ever heard. Lame jokes and trying to have a wacky “berry-eque” personality. Then there are the drops which are horrible. The injury woman was also overly compensating for her lack of personality by getting excited by the most ridiculous things.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Jimbo: I’ve met Tristan in person and let me say his voice is not deceiving you…

    • Clint says:
      (link)

      @Jimbo:

I’ve been getting depressed listening to ESPN’s podcast these days w/ol’ Eyeore Karabell running the show. He constantly has the “woe is me” attitude as if his life truly sucks analyzing fantasy players..unless, of course, he talks about how all these hundreds of young guys should get shots to start, close etc (not saying much after most of his enthusiastic picks never pan out). Eric does not seem like he wants to be there at all. He even said the other day “We can do that, it’s not my podcast anyway” on the show.

I will give them credit for this, though: they stole my dilemma to discuss yesterday in whether or not Harper’s lore is outpacing his actual production and whether Puig is a better keeper than him at this point or not. I really WANT to believe in the guy but I bet there were a lot that constantly wanted to believe in Grady Sizemore’s potential too.

      • Sherm says:
        (link)

@Clint: Have not listened much this year but was troubled when EK said that Springer was going to be 20/20 this year when he got called up. Lo and behold, Springer’s done the opposite of what a 20/20 guy should do. But I’m holding for now in a ten-team ’cause I’ve got the depth.

Someone just offered me Starlin Castro for Trevor Bauer in a 12 team keeper league. We keep 5, cost is one round higher than the draft slot. Bauer undrafted, Castro was drafted in the 6th. Not even sure he’d be a keeper for me. Am I missing something as to why I wouldn’t do this???

12-team H2H points league with -1 for Ks and +2 for SBs.

In desperate need for 3b help (currently starting Uribe) and debating between two different offers:
    1) Carlos Santana for my Yordano Ventura
    2) Martin Prado for my Kenley Jansen (or Cole Hamels)

    Thoughts on #1
My love for Yordano is only rivaled only by yours, but Santana is bound to turn it around at some point (especially with that .159 babip).

    Thoughts on #2
Prado is one of those guys that gets a big value boost in points formats because he doesn’t K at a high rate. I’m doubtful because he’s looked sluggish out of the gate despite sporting a .300 babip which is near his career level (.311) a LD% nearly identical to his career rate. The only changes have been a sharp uptick in K% and a decrease in BB%. If he’s not doing the one thing he did really well (avoiding the K), there’s no way he’s worth Jansen or Hamels, right? ( I think I may have just convinced myself over the course of this paragraph… go me!)

    My current stable of pitchers:
Felix, Greinke, Hamels, Ventura, Bauer, Hutchison, Latos (DL)
    Kenley, Street, Smith, Gregorson, Johnson

The waiver-wire is a cold dark place with Jon Niese and Jordan Lyles being the best arms available

        JashFath says:
        (link)

@my sisters friend boyfriend: I don’t want to step on Grey’s toes, but Kuroda’s stuff seems to have regressed this year, probably due to age. His numbers reflect it and I don’t think he bounces back to last year’s totals. Bumgarner should only get better ROS as his velocity is right where it was last year and his peripherals are near his career norms. The only outlier is his BABIP which is a career-high .390 so I would hold tight.

A’s snapped Darvish’s streak of going at least 5 in each start at 37 last night. I think the longest current streak is a tie between Kershaw and Cole Hamels.

Wrap your head around this one. Which side you on?

Salvador Perez, Yu Darvish, Madison Bumgarner, Dominic brown for cargo, wieters, shields, iwakuma.

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Darvish

      • Bob says:
        (link)

@Grey: same guy offered me Yu Darvish and Bumgarner for cargo. Not sure if I want to do some giant deal with that many pieces or maybe just shop cargo for some nice pitching. Which would you do the multiplayer deal or Yu and Bumgarner for cargo? And obviously you’re the man and a million thanks for your feedback.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

          I wouldn’t trade that many players….Also don’t like trading for a top arm…

          • Bob says:
            (link)

@Grey: I agree about the 8 player deal, just too much going on. Yu and mad bum for cargo though, that’s got me considering it. My OF would still be solid with rios bruce gordon marte and pagan for four spots hence my interest. So you would turn down Darvish and Bumgarner for cargo even with his struggles and tendinitis?

                (link)

@Grey: yeah you’re right. I’m okay with pitching with scherzer shields Zimmerman and iwakuma and fister coming off the DL soon. Just get caught up in things, goddamn fantasy baseball. I owe you a beer or five next time you’re in VT. Thanks Grey.

Looks like they are going to play in Cincy. I have a sense of foreboding about Rhymin’ Simon’s start. Like being on an airplane on the tarmac pretty sure they were going to go back to the gate and cancel the flight and feeling pretty pissed off about it only to have them announce that they are going to take off and immediately flip flop from being mad about a possible cancellation to being pretty sure the plane is going to crash and burn….somewhere over Cincinnati most likely.

      (link)

@Grey: @OaktownSteve: Seems to be based on a cutoff time of first pitch of first game of the day. If I had to guess, I’d say that’s a much easier piece of capability to build than have ‘the system’ calculate who can be started/benched depending on individual start times.

I agree it’s annoying, though, especially in this time zone on those days where first pitch is sometimes a few hours before I wake up.

      • Grey

        Grey says:
        (link)

    C: Posey
    1B: Morneau
    2B: Kinsler
    3B: Miggy
    SS: A.Escobar
    1B/3B: Middlebrooks

    Bench: Billy Butler
    Bench: Jon Singleton

SP: Yu Darvish, Julio Teheran, Homer Bailey, Alex Wood, Sonny Gray, Mat Latos, Alex Cobb, Alfredo Simon,

    RP: Jansen, Perkins

Available on the wire: Viciedo, Hart, Headley, Joyce, Loney, Denorfia, Pagan, Dunn, Villar, Swisher, Markakis. Do I need to make any immediate moves with my bats? Ex. Sell Morneau high, trade a SP, etc. Or can I just wait it out and make a trade once Cobb and Latos are back at the end of May? I’m in the middle of the pack right now. Thanks in advance!

in NL only dispersal i got rendon at 3b to replace asche and owings at IF to replace Ike. 4 picks later i didn’t get neither howell nor withrow, but i suppose i’d rather improve my offense than get the small upgrade at RP for either barrett/a.torres. took rendon one pick ahead of cueto. so dickerson or lake, dickerson is getting dropped by somebody else.

    • Montezuma's Revenge... right now says:

@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: is bastardo over a.torres or barrett, he’s being dropped. i already have m.adams. holds/RW

      Yes

  118. Hulkster says:
    (link)

I have Colby Rasmus as one of two extra OFs (along with Arcia) while Eric Young is stealing mad bags. In this situation, would you trade Rasmus for Jimenez? I don’t exactly need an extra crazy risky pitcher, but I’m thinking the smallish chance at his upside makes this possibly worth the risk, but Rasmus can be useful when streaking. Note we have limited waiver pickups throughout the year.

    • Grey

  119. Wilsonian says:

Do you see this as a rejuvenation year for Morneau, a sort of Zombino year, or are the regression fairies going to hit him in the head much like they did to Alex Wood tonight?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      He’ll probably get hurt

      • Wilsonian says:
        (link)

@Grey: right, but aside from injuries, Zombino? Also, is Krispie going to stay in the lineup? I can’t seem to put some of his very useful years behind me. Something keeps making me think he could be a 20/20 player again.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Krispie is just a hot schmotato, he gets dreadful… Morneau could hit 25 homers in 120 games…

            (link)

@Grey: dreadful. I hear ya. What about Grandy? See any value there? He was dropped the other day and made it through waivers. I think it’s his .150 BA right now…

Thanks on Morneau. I’m riding him while he’s hot. But that whole Rockies team looks like they’re back on the juice…

We must start a rookie pitcher in our league, and I’m getting rocked with Odorizzi (and my only backup rookie pitcher was Taillon). I only have 2 waiver claims left for the whole year prior to our 3-player mid-year draft. Should I claim Trevor Bauer, or ride out Odorizzi and see what else comes along?

    • Grey

kluber’s getting porcello’d (where opposing team gets a shitload of singles), somehow they’re calling it a doubleplay but it both didn’t count as 2 outs and wasn’t so far called an error, which would’ve had his earned runs at only 1.

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@goodfold2: weird yahoo is counting it correctly, so only 1 earned run. espn is still showing it as incorrectly being 3 earned.

a while back i remember reading through comments. you and rudy were debating about ian kinsler and how rudy thought he wouldnt score 100 runs (after you projected him 104ish) without having over a 350 obp… i dont remember the exact numbers in the argument or where or when i read it(maybe i dreamt it) but i do know that ian kinsler per espn is on pace for 119 runs and has a .310 obp. good read, grey. i think if i remember correctly rudy said kinsler was as likely to score 60 runs as 100 runs, or something silly like that. in case you forgot you can rub that one out.. i mean in.
