Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

There is nothing better in life than giving away stuff that people want and not having to foot the bill. There’s a reason why Robin Hood stole from the rich or why Oprah got so excited when she gave her whole audience new cars (on the automaker’s dime).

Actually, scratch that. It’s better to be the one that gets the stuff. But being the giver is a close second.

So I was pretty psyched that LG and LG-One chose us as part of a blogger outreach campaign (“The Hunt for 3D Remarkable Content”) for their LG Cinema 3D TV because I almost got to be both the giver and the receiver (hmm, that doesn’t sound right…)

For the past week or so, Mrs. Gamble and myself have been trialing a 55″ LG Cinema 3D TV in our living room. They offered a 30 day trial so I can write firsthand about the TV as part of this contest.  The picture’s great – feels much bigger than our current 42″ TV.  (Great – now I’m going to have to shell out for a new TV…)  It comes Wi-Fi enabled which is sweet (easier than fiddling with Blu-Ray IMO).  There’s a ‘3D mode’ that converts 2D content into 3D (glasses are included) which is handy, in concept, since almost nothing on TV today is shot in 3D. This feature really didn’t do much for me but it’s easy enough to switch in and out of 3D mode.

So I can say in full honesty that one of you readers is going to get a sweet TV for free.

It wouldn’t be Razzball if we just gave the TV away. One of you will have to earn it through your fantasy baseballer skills. The contest involves picking the best 10 fantasy baseball players for next week (Mon. June 11th- Sun. June 18th 17th) as judged by our last 7 day Player Rater. Sounds easy until you look at the latest 7 days and see the likes of Wilin Rosario, Justin Smoak, Gordon Beckham, and Marco Scutaro in the top 20. See the below form for all the contest details. Just to be clear, one submission per person. Submission ends on this Sunday at 11:59 PM EST. Pick wisely and good luck!

I’m not going to whine as there must be legal reasons which I’m not aware of, but why do a lot of contests exclude winners from abroad? (ie me being Canadian)

I always ask that question to myself, but I suspect I’ll get an answer here!

    • @Randy BoBandy, I hear you. I imagine it comes down to shipping costs (same reason for Alaska and Hawaii). Might have extra legal issues too…

      • Andrew says:
        (link)

        @Rudy Gamble,

Its income taxes. Prizes are Taxable as income, the US can’t tax a Canadian citizen’s income (unless they live here) and so they exclude them from contests.

    @ Rudy :
am i correct in assuming that only the “in-season $” column is what matters ,
and that the “pre $” column is to be disregarded ?

also , how do pull up the pitchers ??
i realize that pitchers aren’t included in this contest , but just for future
    reference .

thanking you , in advance .

    • @chata, For this contest, all that matters is the ‘Heat Index’ column which corresponds with the rank #.

Pre $ is reference for understanding how high/low a player was valued in the pre-season. In-season $ is the relevant $ for the ‘season to date’ player raters (not the 7 or 20 day player raters).

I didn’t create a 7 day pitcher rater just b/c I didn’t think there’d be much value – starters with 2 starts would look significantly better for counting stats, etc.

      Hope that helps!

submitted! Though with the way my fantasy baseball season is going I’m not expecting much. cool contest though

    • @mauledbypandas, ha – well, all you need is one hot week and you’ve got a new TV!

  9. junker23 says:

I just listened to that goddamn theme song a solid dozen times, with most of them at half-speed. And I still couldn’t make out the lyrics in like two or three spots.

If I lose because of that tiebreaker question I will murder each and every member of Sympathy of Nine.

    • Jay29 says:
      (link)

@junker23, Yeah that question is cruel. If only someone could remove the drums and guitar tracks…

    • birrrdy! says:
      (link)

@junker23, agreed! Those damn whiny slurrers! ;^)

    • birrrdy! says:
      (link)

@junker23, may we suggest a new line is inserted in the middle of the song…

“To download baseball jokes / saying Tony Larussa’s gay / and listen to Rudy and others / mouth off to Grey….. / Raaaazzzball pod-caaaast…. / Raaazzzball pod-caaaaast…”

  10. Prezii says:

Definitely gonna find my way into this! Good shizz… <3Razzball

Very cool contest. I’m sure there will be about 50,000 entries so I’m not too hopeful, but I’ve already got a few ideas…

    • @Jay29, Thanks and good luck. Just make sure your ideas are typo-free – i’ve already seen one Pujoles

  12. attgig says:
    (link)

damn. I’ve been eyeing this tv (LM6700) and debating on spending the money to buy it. Maybe, I won’t have to buy it :-) great contest guys!

    • @attgig, cool. just fair warning, we don’t plan on giving away a car or a home anytime soon so feel free to make those large purchases in the meantime…

  13. Tony says:
    (link)

    • @Tony, good luck – must be awful with that 50″ :)

      • Tony says:

@Rudy Gamble, ha its awful, i mean its a 2007! for crying out loud its so outdated…. (actually its still BA, i can’t complain)

It will be cool to see how many enter.

  14. Vacation says:

    Rudy,

I’m sure I had typos. Please don’t toss out my entry. Also, so you know, I live for the weekly podcast. Great stuff. Please keep it going.

  18. A Hill O' Beans says:

As a loyal Canadian reader, I’m afraid I’m going to have to boycott Razzball from now on due to Canadians not being allowed to enter your contest………..or boycott until your next post at least……..or at the very least I will boycott Razzball until I get an email telling me that there is a reply to my comment…

    • thefaketom says:
      (link)

      @A Hill O’ Beans, pretty sure you can still “enter”…but that’s just a masochist’s wet-dream if you win…

  19. JashFath says:
    (link)

What if I’ve written for razzbasketball and not baseball ;)

    • @JashFath, that counts – sorry man.

      • JashFath says:
        (link)

        @Rudy Gamble, Damn, figured.

  21. TheNewGuy says:
    (link)

Dangnamit! Im British, did kinda expect it though ;)

Oh well least I can win money in my regular fantasy leagues now through paypal. Won some leagues on Sportingnews back in the past when they were running, and could never get sent my winnings due to living abroad!

    • @TheNewGuy, sorry – did u get the feeling when we called it a TV and not a telly?

      • TheNewGuy says:
        (link)

@Rudy Gamble, Ha I do actually call it a TV myself, you’re right though Telly is more of an English term.

Can I play it just for fun?

    • Mike says:
      (link)

@TheNewGuy, at least you can party in the streets and enjoy the Diamond Jubilee! Say hi to the queen for us.

      • TheNewGuy says:
        (link)

        @Mike, Ha! Will do.

  22. sure – just make sure that you put your real hometown in the field for city.

  23. Shawn Hansen says:
    (link)

@Rudy Gamble I entered nmbr1yankfan at comcast dot net but the correct one is thebrokenbox22 at gmail dot com.

  24. Mike says:
    (link)

Hmmm, kinda shoulda written down those picks somewhere so I could watch how it all plays out next week.

Well, I bet I can get about 9 of 10 if I sit down and try right now.

    • @Mike, Don’t worry – I’ll be posting all the entries and updating the contest standings every day.

  25. Bill_Buckner says:
    (link)

Thanks for the cool contest. I think I have a decent shot at winning – I listed the Seattle Mariners’ starting lineup plus Brian Schneider…

    • @Bill_Buckner, Um, this isn’t a Fantasy Razzball contest :)

  26. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

I’m on it… even though I don’t even watch TV.

    • @IowaCubs, Maybe that’s 3rd dimension will convert you!

      • IowaCubs

        IowaCubs says:
        (link)

@Rudy Gamble, I bet I could convice my wife to get the Extra Innings package if I brought home a free TV.

  27. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

Rudy, I think I forgot to write my state, but perhaps that would be assumed that I live in Iowa, though I suppose there is a Des Moines, France and a Des Moines, Washington.

    • @IowaCubs, Ha, I added Iowa to your city. But if you ever go on TV, you should say you’re from THE Des Moines like athletes who went to U. of Miami or Ohio State.

      • IowaCubs

        IowaCubs says:
        (link)

@Rudy Gamble, Ha, Yeah, sorta like in France the Big Mac is “Le Big Mac.” We’d call ourselves “Le Des Moines,” but the French would say that’s redundant.

        • kangaroo hops says:
          (link)

@IowaCubs, By the way, I-Cubs, I’ll be taking in a ICubs game in August. Considering that I live in Asia, this is an exciting thing for me. Last time I went, I was selected to throw the 6th inning (or whatever) ball-through-the-tires contest. I won a gift certificate for a new set of tires.

  28. kangaroo hops says:
    (link)

I live outside the US, but can I try to win and send it to my dad in the US?

    • @kangaroo hops, That doesn’t work. BUT, if your dad entered the contest, you’d be fine.

  29. Great news – LG has confirmed that everyone in U.S. as well as Canada (excluding Quebec) is eligible. Great news for those of you who live in non-Quebec provinces, Alaska, or Hawaii.

    • kangaroo hops says:
      (link)

@Rudy Gamble, Les Pauvres Quebecois! Quelle dommage.

  30. Scott says:
    (link)

One of my players might be heading for the DL. Can I swap him out for a healthy guy?

    • @Scott, Not at this time. Will have to see how the next couple days go. I tried to give an advantage to early respondents by making submission time part of the tiebreaker. But if there is a massive injury that impacts a lot of submissions, may need to rethink it.

  31. Nathan says:

Thanks Guys! Just entered Really Excited!

  32. Brandon says:
    (link)

Sweet contest fellas—just wanted to make sure my entry submitted. I clicked on submit and just got a gray screen where the entries were at. Thanks

    • @Brandon, i don’t see an entry under your name/registered e-mail address. can u resubmit?

  33. thefaketom says:
    (link)

Just making sure I got mine in…even though I’m pretty sure I ain’t got a chance. Do you have plans to track this over the course of the week?

    • @thefaketom, yup, we got your submission

  34. Jay29 says:
    (link)

So how many entries were there?

    • @Jay29, 930 responses (after taking out some duplicates).

  35. Where does one go to see which players one picked in this contest? I got it in within the time frame, but don’t know where to go to check up on it. Thanks.

    • I’ll have a page up soon!
