Don’t you love when New Yorkers say the expression, “I got your _____ right here!” Coming out of the right taxi driver’s mouth, it’s like a cello being played by Yo-Yo Ma. Sometimes it can get confusing when you are actually trying to tell someone you’ve located something. Like, “I got your cellphone right here!” Probably sounds like you’re being an a-hole. Well, in that vein, take a a scruffy taxi driver’s voice, throw it through two packs a cigarettes a day for 20 years and give me a little, “I got your loyalty to Michael Young right here!” The Rangers called up Mike Olt. I can’t imagine they did this so he could play an illegal game of pepper and collect autographs from visiting players. My guess is they’re going to bench Young on most days, sick of his anemic season numbers. They could also let Beltre DH and put Olt out on the field. But why is my heart going pitter-patter and why did I pick him up before even writing this post? Because he’s a mollywhopping monster with power in a terrific hitters’ park. In Double-A this year, 27 homers in 94 games. Hey, what’s up beautiful? Can I buy you a drink? What do I want from you? Oh, I don’t know… Maybe you get on my fantasy team. What-what?! I have a way with picking up the fellas off the waiver wire. Yes, you should grab him. Yes, now. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Yu Darvish - 5 IP, 7 ER. His ERA is now at 4.38. Geez, even Byung-Hyun Kim waited a year or two before he was fresh off the bloat. I wonder if everyone will get caught up in the hype for the next Japanese pitcher that is supposedly the answer to, “Did Cy Young have a great-grandson born in Asia that no one knows about?” Probably, even though the Nippon Professional Baseball leagues are clearly inferior. Not saying they’re terrible, but people much smarter than myself (yes, there’s a lot of them) have said NPB is close to Triple-A level. Last time I checked, Triple-A wasn’t the major leagues. There’s no leagues like the major leagues. It’s the one thing, besides obesity, that we have. Unless there’s some Aboriginal league in the Outback playing an even better brand of baseball that no one knows about because those parts are unexplored by our greedy little oil-wanting fingers. So why is it we get all excited still? Did Hideo’s rookie sensation spoil us? As I like to say even though this is the first time I’m saying it, I don’t have all the answers, and even if I did, I wouldn’t say because that would be unfair to everyone else’s self-esteem.
Michael Fiers – 6 IP, 2 ER, 8 baserunners, 6 Ks. He’s doing so well he could almost make Jeff Tweedy smile. Oh, and… You couldn’t get Michael Fiers if you were f**cking Michael Fiers!
Jonathan Lucroy – Homered yesterday. I just picked him up the other day to replace Grandal, but Pierzynki had to go and hit two homers in the last two games, so I figured who knows better than me on how to screw up my own fantasy team by overreacting and I dropped Lucroy before his homer yesterday. I will now wear a brown bag on my head and be known as the Unknown Fantasy Baseball Blogger. Shoot, I forgot to put eye holes in this bag.
Rickie Weeks – 3-for-3 with his 12th homer. On top of the Razzball t-shirts we have, maybe we add one for Rickie Weeks: Bad For Months, Good For Weeks.
Brett Wallace – 3-for-4, 2 homers. Before I talk about Wallace, I just want to say this will be the last blurb about the Astros for a good long time. Unfortunately, I received a letter yesterday from the National Sports Blog Association’s chairman, Bill Russell. The letter states, “Hey, Grey, this is Bill Russell, I’m not the basketball Bill Russell. I’m white. Brett Wallace did have a good game yesterday, hitting 2 home runs, but as recently as last week your prospect writer, Scott, went over his Brett Wallace fantasy in full detail. Yesterday, he mentioned Wallace again along with a top ten fantasy baseball prospect list for the remainder of 2012. Going over the Astros is fine once, maybe twice. Three times reflects poorly on our industry. Astros fans and/or Astro blogs (if there were any) don’t talk about Astros this much. Talking about the Astros makes people more inclined to go to ESPN or Yahoo, where the Astros are never covered. Ask someone from Houston their favorite baseball team and they’ll ask, ‘Does the Rockets’ summer softball league count?’ The NSBA kindly asks that you stop all Astro mentions, unless you’re talking about The Jetsons dog. Yours, Bill Russell (Still not that one).”
Starling Marte – 1-for-5 with his 2nd homer in the week since he’s been called up to go along with his 2 steals. Prorate that over a full season and he’s going 50/50. Matt Kemp called and said he wants his unrealistic predictions back.
Travis Snider – 2-for-5 as he picks up with the Pirates right where he left off with the Jays. Left off with them most recently, not left off when he sucked for two plus years.
Gaby Sanchez - 0-for-2, but the platoon with Robot Jones and him went 2-for-4, 3 RBIs. Men and four ladies, Jones should really be owned. He’s hit 11 homers in the last two months and near .290. As for Sanchez — No Gaby Gaby!
Joel Hanrahan – 1 IP, 3 ER. Kazaam!
Domonic Brown – 0-for-4, but whatever. I’d still give him a shot for a week to try and catch lightning in a bottle. Or as Charlie Manuel would say, “Ain’t no amount of hay that can’t burn if you light a turtle on fire and walk him through it.”
Jimmy Rollins – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 homers, now three in two games. He’s rejuvenated now that no one keeps stealing his Spam musubi from the clubhouse refrigerator.
Vance Worley – 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 0 Ks, lowering his ERA to 3.63. This year has been remarkably similar to last year for Worley. A couple of blow ups, a lot of 6 IP, 3 ER starts, around a 8 K-rate, walk rate’s almost identical, around a 3.60 xFIP. This year’s WHIP is a little higher, but his BABIP has also been slightly up. Weird to think of a 24-year-old as being consistent, but that’s exactly how he looks in the big picture.
Chase Headley – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 13th homer. If you picked him up hoping he’d be traded, and dropped him today then this homer was his bomb voyage.
Zack Wheeler – Mets promoted Wheeler to Triple-A, where he will stay until next June 7th when the 367th comment on my Zack Wheeler Buy article will say, “Wheeler called up!!! Should I drop Cole Hamels for him? By the by, have you ever thought of doing mustache modeling?”
Jayson Werth – Will return on Friday, which according to my Pac-Man Waka Waka Waka calendar, is tomorrow.
Ryan Zimmerman – Didn’t start yesterday due to a sore back. Jordan Zimmermann had his start pushed back a day with a sore shoulder. Andrew Zimmern got a parakeet feather lodged in his throat for an hour.
Blake Beavan – 7 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks and the win. Never doubt the Stream-o-Nator.
Ben Revere – 2-for-4 with his 25th steal as he hits .319 on the year. Revere’s looking like one of those guys that you see next March and you’re like, “He hit .325 with 35 steals and I can draft him in the last round and he’s gonna be a crazy good sleeper and I’m so excited I haven’t taken a breath in like five minutes.” Then you drop him the 2nd week of April and wonder why you drafted him. That’s not to say you can’t own him right now for average and speed.
Starlin Castro – 2-for-5 with his 2nd homer in the last 3 games. Remindin’ Marte real G’s don’t need G’s.
Jair Jurrjens – Placed on the Disgraceful List. I get it, Braves. Medlen has a rotation spot. He doesn’t need two.
Giancarlo Stanton – On track to return next Tuesday. Just wanted to say I miss his face.
Mike Aviles – Missed another game with turf toe. I sure hope that’s a euphemism for something.
David Ortiz – Says his Achilles is pain free, after admitting to being saddened he didn’t have a Chili’s in his heal.
Joba Chamberlain – 1 2/3 IP, 2 ER. On a side note: my sister is being put to sleep today. Granted, it’s a dog and she’s 17 and a 1/2 years old, which is like 142 in human years, but still I needed a good laugh. You know what would do it, right? Our favorite game show…. Marginally Famous Lookalikes! So…. Is this Joba’s Mom or is this?
Phil Hughes – 6 IP, 1 ER, 11 baserunners, 2 Ks; ERA down to 3.96. His schedule is pretty miserable the rest of the season. Though, to be fair, it hasn’t been a bowl of kittens on I Can Has Cheezburger up until this point either.
Zach Britton – 2 2/3 IP, 7 ER. Got the moves like Arrieta!
Matt Holliday – 3 homers in the last two days. He’s reminded me of a different Matt Holliday. A Matt Holliday that would blast 5 homers a week. Could he be Benjamin Button’ing into his former self? Oh, wait, he was playing at Coors.
Zach McAllister – 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks. And…Scene! I think that’s it for McAllister. I was worried after his last start when he gave up 11 baserunners in 6 and a third, but this clinched it. I could see holding until his next start vs. the Twins, but I’m actively looking elsewhere in shallower leagues.
Corey Kluber – Will take over Josh Tomlin’s spot in the rotation. He had a solid K-rate (9+) in Triple-A, but has also walked the park on occasion. I wouldn’t go near him in mixed leagues at this point, but obviously in AL-Only leagues you gotta do what you gotta do.
Ernesto Frieri – 1 IP, 3 ER and blew (literally) a huge game for the Angels. Usually I’d say a guy with a 2.25 ERA is safe, but The Sciosciapath removed Walden for a lot less. I’d watch the Angels’ bullpen. Jason Isringhausen or LaTroy Hawkins could sneak into some save opps.
Jarrod Parker – 6 IP, 3 ER, 11 baserunners, 2 Ks. And, they were singing…Bye, bye, MediOAKer buy… Drove my fantasy team to the streamers, but the streamers were dry… Them good ol’ buys were talking Blackley and giving any starter in O.co a try, singing… This’ll be the day that I give Alfredo Jettuccine a try… This’ll be the day that I give Alfredo Jettuccine a try…
Fernando Rodney – Recorded his 31st save and lowered his ERA to 0.74 as Joe Maddon continues to be the Crappy Reliever Whisperer. Rodney’s given up 4 earned runs all year and hasn’t allowed one since June 14th. Is it time to take bets on what his season ERA will end up at? Under 0.75 is at 3-1; under 1.00 is even odds, under 1.50 is a horn bet and over 1.50′s odds are the same as any reality show on B.E.T. being good.
Patrick Corbin – 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 5 Ks vs. Magic’s new-look Dodgers. So my research shows that Patrick Corbin is not the guy Carrie dates while waiting for Mr. Big to come around. He’s a guy who flashed decent/respectable/adjective stuff in Triple-A — 9-ish K-rate, 3-ish ERA. He’s often referred to as “No, not Trevor Bauer… No, not Tyler Skaggs… The other guy!” That nickname is fairly accurate. He’s not those guys. His upside isn’t a number one starter, but more like a number three. In NL-Only leagues, everyone is playable and Corbin’s no different. Could give you a surprise 3-something ERA with solid Ks. In mixed leagues, I’m putting as a fantasy ‘pert-ental advisory sticker on him for now.
Paul Goldschmidt – 3-for-3 and 10 for his last 17 with two homers. Miguel Montero homered for the 4th time in the last week, and is having a better season than his religious brother. Oh, and the Diamondbacks look like one of those teams that doesn’t consider itself a contender at the trading deadline then ends up in the playoffs.
Chris Johnson – 2-for-3 with his 10th homer and his 4th homer in the last 6 games. I just went over my Chris Johnson fantasy. The only difference between then and now is doode is crazy hot. Yeah, pick him up in your league. Why in the effhole not?
Ryan Ludwick – 3-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 4th homer in 4 days. Yesterday, I said he was the hottest schmotato in the land. So, today I’ll say ditto.
Brandon Phillips – Reds were optimistic that Phillips could be back as early as this weekend. They said, “Players just want to play for Dusty. For instance, we’ve seen pitchers, who look like they can’t throw at all, go nine innings on nothing but fumes.”
Devin Mesoraco – Was suspended three games for bumping an umpire. He’s thinking about appealing the suspension, saying Italians talk with their hips.
Miguel Cabrera - 2-for-5, 2 RBIs with his 26th homer; Prince Fielder went 2-for-4 with his 17th homer; Delmon Young went 2-for-4 with his 12th. The game still clocked in around three and a half hours because the Weight Station by 3rd base was closed.

I have Rollins and Pedroia with Furcal in the 2B/SS slot. Would you dump Furcal for any of these? Ciriaco, L Cruz, M Izturis, Quintanilla
Also, Olt or Wallace?
@ruah, Olt and Wallace are CI, not MI.
@Marqo, Yeah, I know. The Wallace/Olt question was separate, asking between the 2.
@ruah, ha ha , it seemed obvious it was a second question.
@ruah, Ciriaco… Olt…
Seems Parkers magic is running out. Corbin over him in a 16 teamer H2H?
@TheNewGuy, Sure, try it…
Corbin does look like a good flyer. What’s the deal, though, with Collmenter? Is he still in the AZ rotation?
@birrrdy!, Collmenter to the ‘pen–organization prefers his versatility there.
Sal Perez over Willin in a 16 teamer?
@TheNewGuy, Yup
Bye bye Parker. It was good. It was real. But it wasn’t real good.
@trolleyDodger, Yup
Grey,
Karstens or Detwiler?
Thanks!
@Racehorse, Detwiler
17 team pts league. I was offered Rizzo for Lester. Lester sits on my bench indefinitely but my pitching is very weak (Leake and Homer B are my best starters). I have Votto on the DL but meanwhile, Chris Davis is filling in just fine. I do have a UT spot I could put Rizzo, it’s just that my bats are pretty strong and my pitching sucks. Would you trade Lester for Rizzo? Thanks Grey
@Giant JJ, I’d want Rizzo
Youkilis,Olt, or Johnson for 3b rest of the season?
@Steven, Johnson
Wow, top notch work today sir. Marginally Famous Lookalikes! had me laughing pretty hard and now I have “Streamer Pie” stuck in my head.
My condolences about your sister. 17.5 is pretty impressive though. I feel like anything over 12 or so is playing with house money.
@MattTruss223, Thanks! Yeah, her heart was 5 sizes bigger than her body… Though she was only 7 pounds…
Thoughts on Mr. Olt
1. Is he a potential keeper in a keep 7, 15 teamer (my keepers right now are looking like Pujols/Kemp/Kinsler/Bruce/Rizzo and 2 of Morrow/Latos/Dickey/Fiers)
2.Could he outplay Aramis ROS?
@nightpandas, 1. Yeah, 2. Sure
in a 16 team league Drop Mike Young for Lombardozi, Maicier Izturis or theriot?
@schlitzy, I’d hold for another day or two…
drop Anibal for Medlen?
@schlitzy, Yup
Okay, time for the Mike Olt vs so and so questions to abound. Mike Olt vs a slumping, old Youkilis?
@frank rizzo, Olt
Please rank these crappy closers ROS… Steve Chisek, Wilton Lopez, and Greg Holland.
Thanks.
@Carlos, for what its worth, Holland looked good last night
@BoneFace n Harmony, Holland, Chisek, Lopez. Lopez has elbow issues and you never know how Ozzie is going to manage his bullpen.
@Carlos, Cishek, Holland
Grey:
Use my #1 waiver claim on Olt? He’d play behind Longoria in my 10 team dynasty league (or UTIL). I’d dump Headley for him right now. RIGHT NOW, I say.
Also, I took over another team in another league a few weeks ago… still getting familiar with it. Is Yu Darvish droppable?
@CL, Sure… Yu is droppable in very shallow leagues…
Drop Anibal for either Detwiler or Maholm? Or should I wait to see how his next start turns out? Thanks for the great advice.
@Hank, Wait for his next start…
Gross question, but for MI, Beckham or Theriot? Currently own Beckham, but ever since Youkilis acquisition, batting 9th is not helping Beckham…
@Cheese, Theriot
Start Minor (v MIA), sit Lester (v MIN) today, right?
@Jon, I wouldn’t own Lester if I wasn’t starting him vs. Twins… Start both or drop Lester…
Grey- what would you spend on OLT in FAAB $$$? I’ve got 30 bucks left, its an 18 teamer, keep 7, i’m not sure if he’d fit into my keepers unless he came up crushing….
@Tony, $16
@Grey, thanks
@Tony, Sorry the Zimmerman thing didn’t work out yesterday…
@Grey, ha i know, dammit and yahoo says “zimmerman should play tonight” blah blah blah….. lol then robot jones says he’s not playing so i stick cuddyer in, cuddyer sits and frikking robot comes in and goes 2-2! my bench with robot and starling did about as much as my entire line up…. i dont like all the damn games spread out all day, its nice for watching, tough for daily line ups when choosing between guys you know are iffy….
Yeah, I hear ya…
Ludwick, LaRoche, Johnson, or Wallace for my Util spot? How would you rank them?
Thanks
Also after that Util decision, would you rather have Ludwick, Cain or Hunter over Reddick in last OF spot? Hes gone a bit cold it seems…
@Booya, Johnson, LaRoche…. Ludwick for now
Olt vs moose tacos ros
@Dough boy, Moose
Sit or start this week in 12 team h2h:
Lynn @ Col
Wandy @ Cin
Estrada @ Stl
Don’t really want to start any of them but might have to start at least one.
Thanks!
@TheBravesWearPrado, Looking at the streamer tool it looks like they are sits but who would you start if you had to?
@TheBravesWearPrado, I’d sit them all… Have to… Wandy…
Casilla or Wilhelmsen?
@Matt, Wilhelmsen
Olt over Middlebrooks? For a bench/utility slot. Points league, so BA doesn’t really matter… Thanks!
@Ronkonkoma, Sure
You can have my #1 waiver position when you pry it away from Mike Olt dead hands.
Mixed 14-team deep bench dynasty. I’m set at 3B with R-Zims & Arenado, but always attempt to land impact bats. Held on to #1 waiver spot all season in hopes of eventually landing something very studly. Is Olt said stud, or do I wait and cross mis dedos por Taveras?
@roby, Ha! I’d take Olt
Hey Grey,
Is Olt worth the #1 waiver in a 12 team Yahoo dynasty league?
@Ryan, Yup
I think MTV should just buy America’s teens puppies instead of making them have babies for their exploits- really annoying, wholesome & cute at first… and then shear heartbreak: lesson learned! My condolences, Grey.
@PWNightmare, Thanks!
Straily coming up? https://twitter.com/JeffFletcher1/status/231026444308971520
@Diamond Jim Gentile, Wow
To everyone asking if you should use your #1 waiver priority on Mike Olt…the answer is:
YES! YES YOU SHOULD!
Ok, now that I got that out of the way. I’d like to bitch about this post. Not because of anything you did wrong, per se, but that you blast it to my 2 leagues that Olt is getting called up. Damn you Grey, damn you… Both of my leagues are stacked with Razz readers and in Yahoo he wasn’t in the system yet so I have to wait until Sunday to see if I get my claims on him. Which I doubt I will. Boo to my shitty waiver priority…
@Wilsonian, I read a report that Olt isn’t going to play everyday… You still like him that much?
@longbeahyo,
“We’ve been looking to strengthen the bench and put our best club out there,” Texas general manager Jon Daniels said. “Listening to our people, we feel that [Olt] can help in a role on this team. We wanted to give Mike a chance. We felt he’s earned it … There’s going to be a learning curve, but we wouldn’t have brought him up if we didn’t think he was ready.”
You can parse that six ways to Sunday, but they’re not calling him up to platoon him or let him rot on the bench. The most oblique reference in there, the “We’ve been looking to strengthen the bench,” could mean strengthening it by moving Michael Young to the bench. I think that will be the case initially, pending what Olt does early on. If he has a Rizzo-esque start, I think he’ll be in there every day.
@longbeahyo, what Chillmodius said. Plus, it’s been a long standing rule of Razzball that if someone is coming up, use your waiver on them. Don’t hold it. What if no one else comes up? Now you have a shiny new, albeit useless, waiver priority. Olt has the capability to be a Rizzo-type guy. Tons of pop. Good lineup and park. I’m hoping by an act of god that I get him on one team where I’ve made a claim.
Straily getting the call. And, tell this Bill Russell chump to shove it — the Astros are INTERESTING.
@Scott Evans, Are you serious? Love me some Straily.
@Charles, Yes, indeed. Looks official. Straily > Olt for waiver purposes.
@Scott Evans, He’s not on the ESPN player listing! Boner jams ’03
@Scott Evans, Scott:
Got the #2 waiver priority. 6×6 ops/holds, 14 team mixed redraft league.
Both Olt and Straily will be on waivers… And available.
What are your projections for each ROS?
Thanks
@El Burro, Olt, something like: 245/345/480, 8 HR. Straily: 60 IP, 4 W, 3.40 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 60 K — he’ll need to pitch well at first to lock in his spot in the rotation as the Oakland staff gets healthy. But I’m confident he will.
@Scott Evans, Would you drop any of these pitchers to get Straily… Josh Johnson, Samardzija, Fister, Burnett?
Thanks for the heads up, Scott!
@longbeahyo, Don’t think I’d cut any of them at this point. Tomorrow’s start will be telling.
Headley has been good on this 10-game road trip, but he’s going back to SD soon. Drop him for Olt?
@Charles, Sure
Trying to claim Olt and grab Medlen in my keeper, and running out of free moves (then $5/ea). Not that it’s slowed me down…
Bench: Seager, Krispie, Gyorko, SP: Anibal, Wandy, Hultzen
We can keep 1 free “rookie” who finishes under 150 ABs or 50 IPs
Would need to drop 1 to fit both new guys. Just reacquired Krispie cause he looked decent, but still sitting a ton. Thoughts Grey?
@supra, I’d lose Wandy and Gyorko…
@Grey, What if I only need to lose one? (Just traded Halladay/Utley for cheap keeper MadBum!)
Gyorko is consistently ranked above Olt in minor leaguer lists, but I’m thinking the whole AA vs AAA / ETA thing had a lot to do with that?
With Headley not moving do you think we’ll see Gyorko at ALL this year? or is it a waste of a spot?
Then hold Gyorko, but I don’t think we see him in any real way and he’s Padres…
P.S. Now Straily getting called up! Does that change anything? Jeeeeezz…
@supra, Damn he’s not in the pool on Yahoo or ESPN…
@supra, nope. I hate the Yahoo pool. No Olt, no Straily. And I have complete shit for waiver priority so I doubt I’ll get either one.
@supra, ESPN has about 70 OAK pitchers, but no Straily. Come on!
Yo Grey, what do you think of this blockbuster trade (5×5 12-team mixer), I give Gio, Sherzer, Anibal (or capuano) and ichiro and I get uggla and kemp?
I’ll still have Bumgarner, Zimmermann, vogelsong and capuano at SP, and I figure I could stream any extra innings I’ll need (500 innings remaining). Ive got pretty big leads in the pitching ratios. Am I going overboard selling pitching? Are you still doing the deal with beltran instead of ichiro?
Thanks!
@Alcesto, Sounds solid for you…
Beltran’s a bit much
12 team are we liking dempster starting tonight
@AL KOHOLIC, Not really…
@Grey, thanks boss
@AL KOHOLIC, No problem…
i currently have an offer on the table, this is a keeper league (keep 7 of a 25 man roster) i would be getting Juston Upton, CJ Wilson and a 6th and 7th round draft pick, i would be giving up Josh Hamilton and a last round pick and second to last roud pick, Upton is 6 years younger then hamilton, i also have pujols on my team already, im on the out side looking in right now of the playoffs but am very close to being in and have been surging lately, whats your take please
@mcblunsky, I’d take Upton
Grey/Scott Evans/Anyone,
Do I drop Milone for Straily, or am I just blinded buy the shiny new call-up with great potential?
@Chillmodious, Also, can you rank Straily, Medlen, Detwiler, Milone for ROS? Thanks!
@Chillmodious, I’d go with Straily… Medlen, Straily, Detwiler…
@Grey, Thanks, doode! FYI…I e-mailed ESPN and found out that Straily will be added to the player pool upon league confirmation of his call-up, and reflected when the pool refreshes at the end of the day in which he’s called up (i.e. if he’s officially called up today, then he’ll be available at midnight Pacific Time–which is never actually midnight, but instead occurs somewhere around 1:31am Pacific Time). Their statement was that “prospects not already in the pool are not added mid-season until league confirmation of their official call-up.” I would surmise that guys like Hultzen and Shelby Miller are already in there because of pre-season hype, whereas Straily–as previously noted by Scott Evans–had virtually no preseason hype before killing it in the minors this year.
Yeah, makes sense in a non-sensical way…
@Grey, New motto, “ESPN: We Make Sense In A Non-Sensical Way!”
HA! Yup….
Im sure you are sick of Olt questions but I just have to ask…
Johnson, McGehee, Frazier or Olt ROS in a 1 bench slot OPS league
@Rick Grimes, Johnson
Straily over Medlen, Milone, Hughes, Anibal, Lester, Capuano, Maholm? – keeper league.
Thanks!
…or I could lose a RP: Frieri, Casilla…
@Jon, Over Maholm
Lost Grandal to the DL, which replacement should I nab until he is back (hopefully soon):
Miguel Olivo
Josh Thole
Welington Castillo
Carlos Corporan
Ryan Lavarnway
Ramon Hernandez
I lean towards Castillo or Lavarnway.
I know, I know, not the most exciting question…
@airweino, Try Castillo
I am ALL IN on the Stream-o-nator.
Streamed Beaven last night to tremendous results
So I was looking for new players to stream and I came accross Scott Feldman with seemingly good peripherals ranked waaaay down at 42 with a score of 103.
Any particular reason why he is ranked so low? And should I be streaming players like Blackley, Colon and Detwiler over Feldman vs KC?
Thanks Grey. Have a Happy Thursday
@Dynamite Dan, Stream-o-nator is magic, you don’t ask why… Feldman’s not very good pitcher in a terrible park, that’s probably why… Detwiler is over him for me… You too!
Lose one of: Boesch, Fowler, Kendrick
@Jon, Fowler
@Grey- what’s the deal with Garza? DL stint or not? Would you replace him with T. Hudson for the remainder of the season (4×4 NL)?
@Howie, Go ahead and go with Hudson
OPS League Pick 4 ROS: Marte, De Aza, Cain, Berkman, Span, Carter, Jennings, Crisp, Rasmus?
@Justin, Rasmus, Crisp, De Aza, Marte
@Grey, wow, all of those guys ahead of Jennings? Do I lose Jennings for one of them?
@Wilsonian, I’d lose Jennings for Rasmus in all leagues…
Any word yet how Straily fits into the A’s rotation?
@Melvin Emanuel, Haven’t heard yet… Might be Colon out…
@Grey, I’m thinking Blackley is takin the slip.
Wouldn’t be surprised…
Olt or Wallace over Ruggiano?
@tHe sHiT, Olt
should i use my #1 waiver on straily or olt?
right now i have michael young at 3b with goldie at CI (prince at 1B and longo on the DL)
@jaw, Olt
6×6 (OBP, QS)
With no specific needs except getting a solid OF, how would you rank Allen Craig, Morse, Choo, Melky Cabrera for the rest of the year?
@Project_Badass, Choo, Melky, Morse
Jannsen was just dropped..need saves
Would u pick him up over Perkins/burton
Thanks
@Mike, Over Perkins
Drop Bedard or Griffin for Straily?
Thanks
Bedard
love the rickie weeks shirt idea, i would totally buy that for the guy in my league who always drafts him. On a related note, where are we at on the production of a donkeycorn shirt?
Waiting for calls back from our Taiwan factory…
Grab Mike Olt and release Lorenzo Cain?
Only option…
@The Talented Mr. Dope Man, i guess i could drop Viciedo as well… Viciedo is giving me the #’s that i would hope for from Olt though… Cain has just been so good. but i need power.
Hold
Olt over Chris Johnson or Alvares?
Over Alvarez…
I am in a 20 team h2h dynasty league. I Am currently the 7th seed right now. I am thinking of trading longoria sano and wheeler for bautista and melky. What do you think I should do?

Stupid yahoo. Why is it I have to wait 3 days for Olt to pass through waivers but Profar is available now? Just venting…
Yeah, it’s crap…
@Matt2, I’m with you man. Pisses me off to no end. I’d have Olt on both of my Yahoo teams right now if he was there. As it stands, I have waiver 7 and waiver 14. Doubt I’ll get him.
Hmm, pretty odd that ESPN doesn’t have Straily in their system. First time I’ve seen that happen.
Anyways.
Grey, I’m torn here.
I love the looks of Cecil @OAK.
He’s gone at least six innings in his last three starts v. DET, OAK and @NYY, striking out 20 over those three games. He has a 2.83 career ERA v. OAK in five games and has fared well in the Coliseum. OAK is 28th in home OPS. They fare well against LHP and are a top five squad in HR v. LHP, something that doesn’t mix well with Cecil who’s given up 1 HR each of his last four starts.
But!
The SON doesn’t like him giving him a 93 score.
Stream or sit?
@Eddy, Pasting this from comment #37 above re: Straily…
“FYI…I e-mailed ESPN and found out that Straily will be added to the player pool upon league confirmation of his call-up, and reflected when the pool refreshes at the end of the day in which he’s called up (i.e. if he’s officially called up today, then he’ll be available at midnight Pacific Time–which is never actually midnight, but instead occurs somewhere around 1:31am Pacific Time). Their statement was that “prospects not already in the pool are not added mid-season until league confirmation of their official call-up.” I would surmise that guys like Hultzen and Shelby Miller are already in there because of pre-season hype, whereas Straily–as previously noted by Scott Evans–had virtually no preseason hype before killing it in the minors this year.”
@Chillmodious, Thanks for the clarification. I guess it makes sense, but I still find it odd that ESPN didn’t have him there. Well, it’s the first time it’s happened with them, unlike Yahoo which sucks ass when it comes to that, so I’m not going to fault them.
I’d start him, but there’s risk involved…
News: Following Wednesday’s 11-10 win over the Angels, the Rangers called up top prospect Mike Olt, purchasing his contract from Double-A Frisco. Olt, a third baseman who was the subject of all kinds of rumors prior to the trade deadline, is not expected to play everyday, with general manager Jon Daniels telling ESPN.com that Olt will give manager Ron Washington a deeper bench and more options with his lineups.
-cbssports
Would you drop Rasmus for Alt seeing as how he might not play everyday?
I wouldn’t
Minor vs. Mia or Detwiler vs. Philly?
Minor
Grey, hey.
Would you want Lorenzo Cain or Snider Ros? Looking for R, RBI, OPS.
Thanks for your help.
Cain
Grey,
S.O.N. gives Samardzija a somewhat favorable nod for tomorrow @ LAD, with a score of 105. I give Samardzija a score of one middle finger (you know, for all the some-agita in June), but I like the matchup and Ks are delicious. Would you stream him tomorrow?
I’d stream him for Ks…
Rank the following MediOAKers: MCarthy, Anderson, Parker, Griffin, Straily
McCarthy, Straily, Griffin
Pls rank for UTIL spot ROS (H2H points):
Olt
Kubel
Wallace
Kubel, Olt
Any of Patrick Corbin, Greg Holland, Cishek over any of Leake, Mcallister, Fiers, Volquez ROS? 12team H2H pts Thanks!
Cishek over Leake if you need saves… Corbin if you need SPs…
Complicated keeper rules, but I’ll try to be concise. In my league you can keep either 4 or 5 players and you forfeit the draft round for the keepers. Like this year I took Austin Jackson in the 18th round, so I could keep him as my 18th round pick next year. However if you keep a first rounder you do so at the extra cost of another late round keeper, so you get 4 total keepers instead of 5.
Here’s the trade:
My Pujols (1st rd), and my Greinke (3rd rd)
for
His D. Wright (2nd rd) and Starling Marte (22nd rd)
I’m probably out of playoff contention, Marte probably doesn’t matter to me, unless he continues to produce at this level of course. But keeping Wright instead of Pujols would mean I get to keep say Jackson in the 18th and Chapman in the 15th to go with my other keepers. (J-Up in the 10th, CarGo in the 23rd). I’d also get to make a first round pick, guys like Pujols, Grandy, Tex will be around.
Maybe it’s all too convoluted to get quick advice, but it seems like it makes sense to me. I guess the real question might be, do you like Wright as a 2nd round keeper in a 14 team league?
Not a good trade…
1. Drop Parker for Niese, Wei Yin Chen, Vargas, Detwiler?
2. Drop Parker for just called up Straily for the hell of it? (who I can’t find on Yahoo? What gives?)
Niese…. 2. Sure
LOLudwick. Sitting out today. According to Dusty, “We have to monitor his workload so he can stay strong and stay fresh.”
Just to clarify, I did not make that quote up. That is an actual Dusty quote from this morning. Mark Prior read that quote and shook his head. (OK, that part I made up…but it’s plausible!) I mean, the jokes are endless on so many levels.
Ha! What a Dusty…
Should I drop Stubbs or Desmond Jennings for Chris Johnson or Olt?
@DoobieDrooby, Jennings for Johnson
@Grey, Noooooooooooo! The reality of that advice/move just hurt my soul a little bit. I miss the times when we were young and “O’Jennings Day” was something to get super excited about. Now I just shake my head like Mark Prior reading quotes from Dusty about preserving hot hitters.
Yeah, I know… Sad day…
never thought id be asking this but medlen or darvish ROS h2h league?
I’d hold, but can understand easily how Medlen could be better…
@a1rfann1ng, How big is the league? Above, Grey said he’d drop Darvish in shallow leagues. If Yu’s at the back end of your rotation, I’d drop just to have the flexibility to grab a guy like Medlen.
I do agree with Carnac… League size plays into it…
@Carnac, @Grey 12 team mixed, no one useful on the wire though, i own wainwright, JJ, lincecum, darvish, hanson, hudson, fiers.
Who do you like best as a potential keeper?
LoMo, Aybar, Lind, Simmons, Grandal, Ramos, Luebke
@Jon, Simmons…
Lind
also todd frazier or chris johnson?
@a1rfann1ng, CJ
Johnson, friend.
grey man – dare i start lester tonight? so tempted.
@jd, If you can’t start him against Minnesota, he’s not worth hanging onto.
I’d drop him if I wasn’t starting him vs. the Twins…
To go along with my Jennings comment. You said take Rasmus over him in all leagues. Who would you prefer over Jennings (for a UTIL spot, I have enough OF):
Freeman, Rasmus, Headley, LaRoche, Pedro, Ike, Chris Davis
Still Rasmus?
8 Team H2H Keeper
I’d play Rasmus…
Corbin over Maholm ROS? Same in a keeper league?
Sure…
Just got offered Hart for Wainwright. Should I?
It’s fair, depends on needs…
Bee Tee Dubya, I’m going to start referring to Yu Darvish as “DaisYUke” from now on. Same shizz, different wasabi.
Sadly…Yeah…
Have Hardy at SS. Ruggiano as a bench bat. Rutledge is available. Drop Ruggiano for Rutledge?
Go for it…
6×6 (OBP, QS), 4-player keeper (only players drafted after the 1st 4 rounds)
Would you trade Youk and Rafael Soriano for Allen Criag?
Nope
How much would you bid on Medlen? $55 left, $100 budget. 12 team mixed
$21
Did you see that Miggy homerun, well out of the park. Ridiculous. Do you know an estimated distance on that?
http://hittrackeronline.com
Olt or Rizzo UTIL spot ROS?
12 team H2H.
Rizzo
Please rank top two from this group ROS:
Gio, Vogelsong, Lohse, CJ Wilson
Gio, Wilson
I swear your stream-o-nator is going to give me a heart attack.
Tomorrow it wants me to choose between Blackley (vs Tor) or Blanton (vs Ari)
Neither of these seem like good starts!!! but I trust in thee o Stream-o-nator
Which one looks slightly better when shooting for a QS.
I will have a Happy Thursday thank you very much…
Ha… Yup… You too!
6×6 (OBP, QS), 4-player keeper (only players drafted after the 1st 4 rounds)
Would you trade Youk and Rafael Soriano for Morse?
I would, friend.
@Grey, Thank you very much, buddy.
You’re very welcome, goombada.
Is Denard Span in a contrct year? he sure is playing like it right now. I’m tempted to pick him up but I have this little hunch that Rudy’s ROY candidate Yonder Alonso finishes strong, who would you take a shot at?
Finally got to listen to the podcast last night and was a little sad it was so short. But then it was your solo project with Rudafunkel on vacation. Nice mention of the Barter Kings, glad I shared that one. Bah Bam!
I’d prefer Span… Podcast was actually short because there was technical difficulties in the studio, each question was taped separately then spliced together…. Yeah, you got me hooked on that show… It’s great…
@Grey, Canadien Electronics
Ehn’t that true…
@Grey, must have been a Bose’r
Hehe
Hola Grey,
Great breakdown as always. I also used to get my lines crossed with the whole “You talking to me?” when I was in the big apple. Hard not to say it affected and want to shear a mohawk and plug a couple into a pimpy keitel. I digress.
Who shines my UT spot the best ROS? Markakis, Werth, Olt.
Also- Kennedy, Kuroda, Sheets, Straily. Rank em.
Keep up the good work, hombre.
Thanks! Ha… Markakis… Kennedy, Sheets, Straily….
Nice Spam sushi Victorino-less line…
Thanks!
@Grey, sorry to hear about the pup…mine’s been in a cast for the last 5 weeks…135 lbs up and down the stairs 3 times a day…sun’s out, gun’s out…
My Mom put her paws in cement yesterday with a dog treat… It’s a trying time for all of us…
@Grey, … unlike people, dogs are naturally good and loyal and kind….
Agreed… I like dogs better than people…
@Grey, That’s a line from “All dogs go to heaven”…yeah, that’s right…I just quoted “All dogs go to heaven”…what?
Hey, I quoted it first! And didn’t even give it credit…
@Grey, What do dogs even see in us?
Food supply…
@Grey, speaking of sun’s out….not sure that Tweedy has actually ever seen the sunlight…
marte or olt???
@Sal, i have trout, cargo, bryce, and hunter playing my OF
prado at 3b
Olt
I don’t get the Jeff Tweedy joke, puh-leeze enlighten me? Is he just sad all the time?
Anywho, Medlen or Fiers, ROS?
Yes, he is… Fiers…
1. Drop Krispie for Olt?
2. Drop Norris, Griffin, Harvey or Samardzija for Straily?
3. Lucroy or Perez ROS (or at least until Grandal comes back)?
Actually for 1. please rank Krispie, Olt, Cain, Ludwick ROS
Cain, Olt, Ludwick
1. Yes 2. Norris 3. Lucroy
What do you think of a Price/Middlebrooks for Castro/Hosmer deal in a 16 team H2H keeper?
I have Rutledge at SS and Pena at 1B. My other starters are Vogelsong, Moore, Lester, Anibal, and Minor. I could then pick up Medlen and/or Detwiler.
Hosmer side for next year… Do it and grab Medlen…
Where is this Shaved Ice place in Gardenia, those places were huge and in the 80′s and I miss those velvet ice treats. I’ve tried some lately but they were more snow cone texture than shaved ice. Please help.
Teri Hawaii… It’s amazing…
@Grey,Awesome, that is right by one of the best Mexican joints in so-cal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really? What’s its name?
@Grey, The Burnt Tortilla, 1310 W. Artesia Blvd.
Its just that classic mexican food but done spot on, never had a bad meal, I highly recommend the Carnitas and a bowl of some of the best Albondigas. The babys mama is Mexican and she turned me on to it. I like it so much that I am willing to take my daughter to her mom’s house just to go eat there and I live in San Dimas now. Oh and I really don’t like her mom.
@Simple Jack, I meant grandma’s house in the LB, and I really don’t like grandma
Ha! Mmm, that sounds wonderful… Thanks for the tip!
@Grey, Let me know what you think when you take the cougar there!
Seriously everything is good
Cougar will take me!
@Grey, You’re such a giggolo grey
Just got it like that… And for the Cougar who’s probably reading this… I’m just playing!
@Grey, must be the stauche!
@Grey, If you old school 1950′s era Chinese food I got a place for that too in Long Beach.
Is that by the gong on the beach?
@Grey, no its in the Bixby Knolls area on Atlantic, north of the 405…just don’t oredr the Ribs. .
Not sure about the one by the beach, Ive been to so many places down there. There is a good Thai spot on Broadway east of Cherry down by the Beach.
Yeah, not that familiar with that area of town…
@Grey, bixby knolls or broadway and cherry?
Neither
@Grey, Long Beach has some pretty cool hidden spots
It’s too far from me…
@Grey, the old school chinese spot is good, so many of those places have disappeared in the last 20 or so years. It’s really nostalgic for me.
I’ve been going back and forwards with my league owner of Trout.
He has come back to me offering trout/Kershaw/storen for my prince/butler/mad bum
It’s a 6×6 with holds/BAA and OBP. I’m currently 2nd but have only 4points in HR and 5 Points in RBIs. It’s an 11 teamed and I’ve just acquired Cargo as well
So I’d be Rizzo at 1st, Lawrie and olt and 3b and CI with an OF stacked of Braun/cargo/Victorino/Bruce/de aza/trout/Ethier
You think the trade works
Thanks
It works…
Straily called up to start tomorrow.. of course yahoo doesnt even have em in the player pool.. yahoo sucks..
ESPN doesn’t have him either…
@Grey, i feel a little better.. but yahoo still sucks. He’ll be outta the rotation by the time you can put waivers on him. Hopefully he just goes str8 to FA. Doubtful though…
@Prezii, Do you think he’ll be a one-start, then to the ‘pen, call-up? That is, why do you think he’ll be out of the rotation after a day?
@Chillmodious, i just got this email. Stupid phone.. i dont think hes a one start he will probably be in there all year. Just sayin knowing MY luck he’ll be kicked.. Sorry for the confusion.
Rasmus or Boesch?
Rasmus
@Grey, Rasmus or Goldy, ROS?
Goldy
Two of my favorite bands in the title, both still rock by the way…ahhh good razzball day.
ROS Olt or Snider? 6×6 league, OPS as extra offensive category
Nice… Olt
@Grey, Thanks, actaully getting the new Dinosaur Jr. Album to review next week…pumped.
I don’t know them, but I think their band name is funny…
Niese or Medlen?
Niese
Still trying to unload Anibel/McDonald (A.M., for a second Wilco reference) in my 12 team HTH. Surprisingly no one wants them.
Would you do:
A.M. and Casilla
for
Fiers, Holland, and one of Harvey/Medlen/Straily?
Thanks!
Nice! I’d take that and Medlen…
@Grey, Do we know if Medlin has a spot secured? Or does it hinge on Hanson’s health. They have Huddy, Sheets, Minor, Maholm and Medlin/Hanson. So either Minor has to suck or someone has to get or stay injured?
He’s got a spot for a few weeks… Who knows from there…
Would you lose De Aza or Rasmus for Olt?
@2 Cups 1 Braun, OBP keeper league too
De Aza if you didn’t need steals… Probably would hold…
@Grey, Well I have to lose someone only for a few days until I can claim Olt and demote him to my farm team. After that I can pickup a new OF but risk losing who I drop to waivers.
Which side do you prefer… Konerko/Hanley for Hamilton/Lawrie?
Konerko
Werth coming back tomorrow. Brett anderson coming back next werk. Who do i drop. Marte, snider, olt, karstens, tillman?
Last two
@Grey, 14 team H2H where my hitting is set C-3OF. As of now i will already have to.choose between olt, snider, and marte for 2 of my UTIL spots. And then throw in werth werth i will have to only choose 1out those 3. In this league it is ideal to accrue as many SP as possible and have a tight set hitting lineup. That being said. Do you prefer karstens or tillma? Then Olt, marte, or snider? I would like to get rid of at least 1 hitter. Maybe 2 if that seems logical
Karstens… Marte…
Would you start Straily (possibly tomorrow) or Milone (Sunday) against TOR this weekend?
Straily
After last night’s win over the Giants, Jordany Valdespin returned to his locker to find that the white t-shirt he wore to the game was torn and had writing on it, according to multiple beat reporters.
Valdespin initially became angry, shouting across the clubhouse as he attempted to find out who had messed with his shirt. The sleeves of the shirt were shredded, according to Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger. Furthermore, the front of the shirt said “NY <3 Valdy,” while the back of the shirt said “El Hombre – 1.”
In a blog post for the New York Times, Andrew Keh said that the prank had a dual purpose. While intended to be humorous, it was also meant to teach the rookie a lesson — players are supposed to wear collared shirts to the ballpark.
The tension dissipated relatively quickly. Valdespin wound up wearing the shirt out of the clubhouse, laughing about it and posing for pictures.
That’s a weird story…
Drop Moustakas for Olt?
Nah
Drop Hosmer for the B. Wallace?
I wouldn’t, amigo.
Who would you lose from my minor farm to make room for Olt?
Jacob Turner
Zach Cozart
Devin Mesoraco
Travis D’Arnaud
Brad Peacock
Anthony Rizzo
Peacock
What group would you prefer in a keeper league. Wright and fielder or cargo and Hanley?
CarGo
@Grey, Thank you sir. Much appreciated!
No problemo
What about Konerko and Hanley for Braun?
It’s fair, I’d take Braun…
Hey Grey, which two do you like least as keepers?
Medlen, Maholm, Lester, Anibal, Hughes, Milone, Straily, Corbin, Anderson, Capuano
Actually, bottom 3 instead of 2, please. I counted wrong.
Maholm, Medlen
And Corbin
@Grey, Thanks!
H2H 5×6 (+ops). Would you drop Kelly Johnson or Howie Kendrick for Ricky Weeks?
Johnson
Pick a side – Votto or Fielder + Rizzo?
Gracias dude!
Fielder and Rizzo
So if you’re frowning on starting Dempster in his home field tonight…
Drop Dempster for Straily?
Eh, I’d hold on that for now…
What do you think of this 3-team trade… rank the returns for me?
Team 1 gets LaRoche, Morrow
Team 2 gets Andrus, Cespedes
Team 3 gets Reddick, Reyes
3, 2…
@Grey – Dos preguntas, por favor. 1) RWeeks or Espinosa? 2) Which injured SP ‘stache in order – Marcum, Anderson or Garcia? Gracias!
Weeks… Anderson, Marcum
Damn you guys kick ass at basketball and in the pool. At least we (UK) are the best at cycling, expecting quite a few medals there.
Haven’t watched one minute yet of the Olympics…
@Grey, But at least you fixed them.
@TheNewGuy, when did that happen besides the tour de france this year.
Lol seriously Grey?
Jack we’ve been good ever since the Beijing olymipcs. the legend that is Chris Hoy, Wiggins, Cav, Queen Victoria (Pendleton), Kenney, the list goes on…
Yeah, seriously… I think I watched Mary Lou Retton last…
@TheNewGuy, New Zealand rules rowing!
(apart from that one GB gold)
@Steve, And Sir Steve Redgraves 5
@TheNewGuy, Yeah, yeah.
Would be nice to get a shot at you guys in the team pursuit cycling but we’ve got to get past the damn Aussies first.
Wallace, Chris Johnson or Olt for ROS – UTIL / bench spot
Johnson….
I think you just added another word to your Razzball glossary. Bomb Voyage – when you drop a player and he hits a homer the next day
Yeah, it’s been meaning to go in… http://razzball.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=28585
8 Team H2H Keeper. Have Longo, Tulo, Bautista, and Phillips hurt. Only two DL slots. What do you think of a Rizzo/Cliffly for Bautista deal?
I’d take Rizzo side…
What the schmeck is going on with Josh Hamilton?
Quoth he:
“There’s so much more involved. I don’t know,” he told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m cool, man. I’m really good. The frustrating part is this [dealing with the media] and not being able to share everything with you guys. When the time is right, I’ll be honest with you, you’ll be right in the loop.”
“I’ve been shown a lot of things over the past week,” he said. ”There’s disobedience and there’s obedience to God. I’ve been being disobedient. It may be a small thing to you, but it’s a big thing to him. There’s consequences. It’s like a father and a kid. There are disciplines. You guys can chew on that and think about it.”
Ron Washington:
“The issue is something that I think Josh would definitely have to be the one to expose. It’s certainly not physical. It has nothing to do with injuries. Josh is the one that made the statement and got all the inquiries going, and I think Josh is the one that has to put a rest to the inquiries, not Ron Washington. I can just tell you one thing: It is not because he’s hurt.”
Ian Kinsler:
“…”
Hamilton’s priest:
“Thank you for coming to see me, my son. God is great and merciful. To pay penance for what you’ve done to Him, you must say nine ‘Hail Mary’s each morning for the rest of the season, lash yourself twelve times with a wet leather whip every night – and you must hit .300, send 20 more homers over the wall and deliver another 50 runners into the bosom of his home. Don’t let this Olt kid show you up – for if that happens, you will have embarrassed The Lord Our God. You wouldn’t want to do THAT to Him, would you, Joshua? Now go forth and prosper.”
Wow…
@Goose, WTF is going on here? Did his wife catch him with a hooker or something?
@Steve,
“I’ve been being disobedient” is certainly an interesting way to say that…
@Goose, God found out that, during his hot streak, Hamilton had been praying to Jo-Bu.
@Goose, ricka ricka relapseee! Ron washington “showed him a lot of things of the last week”.. hes just trying to sniff his way back into a hot streak.
@Prezii, Cocaine’s a hell of a drug…
Hello Grey,
Are we done with Capuano? I really can’t take another start like the last few. If so, is Medlen worth grabbing for him?
One more if you don’t mind – Olt over Frazier? I have Frazier in for the weeping A-Rod but I could always move him to OF for say Reddick if he slows down.
Thanks much Grey.
I’d grab Medlen in some leagues… I’d try Olt too in some leagues…
Read that Washington said Olt will get starts against lefties. Hopefully he’ll crush them and force the issue. Could just be that TEX doesn’t want to deal with fully benching Young, and so Olt’s transition to a full time player may be gradual. Try to get the fans to get behind it and think it was their idea or something.
That’s lame city.
@Grey, It’s lame metropolis…It makes me think I should save my remaining $10 for a pitcher, hopefully Straily. I have no use for a part-timer in a weekly league.
I wouldn’t worry yet… He could hit a homer this weekend and see 5 days a week…
@Grey, Yeah. I’ve read some talk about his splits and how he kills lefties so he might just start against lefties but it’s BS. He hit .298/.388/.573 .961 against righties this season. His OPS against lefties was higher (1.020), but his AVG was lower (.272). As a right handed hitter, one could expect that he will hit lefties better in the long run, but his splits shouldn’t dissuade TEX from starting him every day.
Oh, and Michael Young’s OPS is .643.
Young’s done… He’s been in a slow decline for years and it finally caught up to him… Yeah, I hear ya on Olt…
@royce!, Is there ukelele music playing in the background?
@Steve, Funny you should ask; there was when I wrote the Olt comment. But now I’ve escaped it. Not for long, I expect.
How would you rank the following for the rest of the season? And for a dynasty league?
Carp
Wallace
Olt
Olt, Wallace… Both…
One more Grey,
I launched Brett Anderson from my DL last week to make room. Do I drop Lynn or Capuano for him? Yahoo 12 Team H2H with OPS and Holds.
Thanks much Grey.
Capuano
Allen Craig – if he is injury free – do you like him for next year – do you feel like making any nostadomus predictions on him for next year – In my dynasty league I have some players that have some manlove for him – been using him at 2nd base this year mostly – max out the value there – he will lose his 2nd base value next year -
@Mr Baseball, allen craig is never injury free.. Cust kayin…
I don’t think he’s a guy you can count on for more than 120 games… I’d see what I could get in a trade…
Wow. My disappointment at LaRoche getting to hit with no one on base just evaporated.
Off Hamels, no less.
Not a moment too late.. anyone lacking in power, go get Laroche NOW! career august numbers are pretty nasty.. second half hitter, but august is his month.
Yeah, agreed…
grey i have a surplus of pitching after a few trades and am in need of 3B with Arod DL’d.
I could swing a trade with NatGio and try to fetch 3B talent, and get Straily off waivers to cover the SP. or i could snatch up C.Johnson/Olt off waivers.
my Offense has been hurting last couple weeks, and fallen from 2nd to 6th.
basically which would you rather have in my position:
C.johnson/Olt & NatGio or R-Zimm/Longo/Encarnacion & Straily?
I’d take Edwin and Straily…
Now that I’m starting Rollins, no surprise to see him start 0-2.
You deprive us of Steve Magic!
Oh, so I just looked at ESPN Fantasy… What does Berry’s title mean? I don’t get it…
@Grey, Oh dear. He’s invented a new word.
His style is so irritating. Some of his fantasy advice is silly, which I could care less about. It’s the way he says it that’s so annoying.
But I don’t even understand what his title is referring to… Irritating and confusing…
@Grey, There’s some allusion to it in the article…
Oh… Well, it’s a slow day… I may as torture myself… Damn you, curiosity…
@Grey, Watch out for the faux modesty, though. What a dick.
@Steve, Oh – looks like you found it (emoticon)
Hosmer!
@Grey, There was one semi-interesting nugget amongst all that dross – the Wolfman has lost 8 wins this season because of that crappy Brewers pen.
But then again, maybe the bad win karma just follows the Wolfman around? If memory serves, we both suffered horribly from that during his time in LA…
Oh, that’s right… Wolfman can’t buy a win for like 2 years now…
Holy Jesus, I’m two paragraphs in and he’s congratulated himself three times already…
Ugh, I stopped halfway through… He’s so out of touch… I can’t handle it…
@Grey, Three paragraphs in is all I can handle…I always wonder how 3/4 of the people at E$PN have jobs, but I forget they hired J.A. Adande…the worst Sports Writer EVER at the L.A. Times.
That article was horrendous…
@Steve, I can’t believe you read the whole thing
@Simple Jack, Don’t defame me! Kinda skimmed it
@Steve, wow, I didn’t know admitting to reading the dingleBERRY were some fighting words in New Zealand
@Simple Jack, Ha! I force myself to read him every now and then – just to confirm that my prejudice towards him remains well-founded.
@Steve, I hear ya, just in case he turns his life around and stops being mega-douche…or work for a repitable company
Cole Hamels’ last 15 innings … 29 Hits 11 ER. Against SF, ATL and now WAS. This is how you lose a roto crown. Ace cracking up and turning to crap.
Yeah, not pretty…
Nice outing eovaldi… Belch…
Indeed
Great for my NL-Only team…
Ugh, just realized Dempster’s basically not startable for at least 2 more games- @BOS and @NYY, if not 2 (@TOR). I could give a shizz about the Braves, but that trade falling through really killed Dempster’s value.
Thanks for reminding me to bench him today, though.
Yeah, no problem… Such a terrible park…
@royce!, I didn’t realize the mirage of Dempsters stats, the only full month he has pitched he gave up 16 ER in 38 innings and in the other months he took time off. he had 16 days off between April and May and 23 days off between June and July. I have a feeling that he is going to be a big dud if he actually has to start every 5th day for the rest of the year.
Who’s the more valuable Keeper for the future – Ryan Howard or Hanley Ramirez?
Hanley
Please rank for RoS:
Bum, Gio, Peavy
Any you WOULDN’T trade for Pujols?
Thanks dude.
Gio, Bum…. Nope…
@Grey,
1) Still holding Wieters or dropping for M. Montero, J. Montero, or Perez?
2) Rutledge, Alexi, or Hardy?
3) Hold Anibal for his next start or drop for Medlen, Straily, Chen or Bucholz? I already have one open spot so I can pick two.
Thanks!
1. Montero 2. Rutledge 3. Hold for start vs. Indians and grab Medlen
@Grey,
Ha..I’m guessing that’s Miguel Montero?
Besides Medlen, if I end up dropping Anibal, would Straily be the next best pick up of the aforesaid group?
Yup, Miguel, sorry… Yeah, he would…
Grey-
Would you consider dropping Harper for Ross,G.Jones,Rajai,Span or Saunders?
Those are all players that are in front of him in yahoo season ranks. Or would you hold based on the lineup and place in order he hits.
Thanks
I’d hold, friend.
Wow. Only picked Hunter up for the short schedule day. Kinda sorry I’ve dropped him already.
@Steve, Damn! Caught stealing. Could have done with that.
Bomb voyage?
got 99/100 FAAB bucks left. How much would you spend on Olt and Strailey (drop Anibal and Estrada). Olt would sit on my bench but potential keeper as I keep 7. Strailey could help ROS.
31 for Olt, 41 for Straily, but you’re not giving enough info… How many teams? What do FAs go for usually in your league?
Grey-
I was just offered Hamels for C.J Wilson and Harper. I already have A-Gon/Bruce/Cutch/Hunter as OF would you make this deal?
Thanks
I’d take Hamels…
Samardzija @ LAD or Blanton vs. AZ or neither….
Depends on the league…
C’mon Royals – would like a vulture win here…
@Steve, Pppfffttt.
Hehe.

That’s hilarious…
@Grey, How did I not discover Lupe Fiasco’s Daydreamin’ until today?
I’m old, I guess.
@Steve, Geez, I’ve only referenced it about 5 dozen times in the last few years. Hurt me soul is brilliant…
@Grey, Yeah, I know. *hangs head* I heard Daydreamin while I was having a haircut today and thought ‘I must find out who that is’ #oldcoot
Looking to trade Lynn for Wilhelmsen in my points league. Good idea?
@MeanMachine, I would, I don’t think Lynn will finnish the year…but it does depends on what the points are?
It’s fair…
Haven’t read any of the comments but judging from the write up on Olt you’d prefer him in a dynasty over Arenado? I can put in a waiver claim and see how that goes.
Also, got a monster offer in my other dynasty of Cuddyer, Hamilton, and Axford for Middlebrooks, J-Zimm and Cliff Lee. I have CJ Wilson as my best starter if I move those pitchers, my OF is bleak (currently being held together by guys like Alex Gordon, Cody Ross, Alfonso Soriano, and Des Jennings), and my CI/3B spot is fine with Youk, E5, and Chisenhall. How does that look?
Yeah, over Arenado…. I don’t love it…
Kendrys or B Wallace?
@ruah, I have Wallace but Morales is available. Would a gimpy Furcal or Cuddyer be a better drop for Morales than Wallace?
Kendrys
@Grey, Over Wallace or one of the others?
@ruah, Lose Furcal…
Thoughts on Middlebrooks or Olt for balance of the year in AL only league?
Middlebrooks… Take followups to my newest post about Medlen…
