Frequent reader, Mike, alerted me that Rafael Soriano is experiencing pain in his throwing arm. This may be nothing, but it could very well be something. Peter Moylan is the backup to Soriano and should be picked up if you have room on your team. Moylan wasn’t going to close last because he had performed a bris two nights in a row, Manny Acosta was going to close. However, Moylan is the backup and man to get the saves if Soriano goes down.

From Around The Web

  1. Guy has been horribly injury prone dating back to his early days with the Mariners. It’s a shame because when 100% healthy he is as dominate as anyone.

Totally agree, that’s why I felt it was imperative to get the post up quickly. Soriano + arm injury = Moylan saves.

Really? Moylan? Rotowire has Acosta ahead of Moylan on the depth chart. Sure, I like Moylan more – but I don’t have room for both him and Acosta on my roster.

Acosta may get a save or two if Moylan’s overused but Moylan is the setup man and default closer in times of trouble. Unless Moylan screws the pooch with his opportunity.

It’s been a very sucky year for me so far, but having Soriano DL’d would be the icing on the cake. I moved him up in nearly all my leagues, and now it looks I’m going to eat it. At any rate, thanks for the Moylan suggestion. I’ve taken advantage of that in a couple of leagues where I’ve got room to handcuff the two of them.

  6. Speaking of closers, J.J. Putz is throwing and may be ready to go sooner than later. I’m thinking he could be easily ready to go by the end of the month. I also think that Roy Corcoran could start getting some of the save opportunities in Seattle if Mark Lowe falters again. He’s been a very good closer in his minor league career and a favorite of manager John McLaren during Spring Training.

    What about this Rowland-Smith guy?

    So true.

  9. Rowland-Smith was good on the one save he had, but at this point he’s more of a middle-to-long reliever. Obviously that can change in a hurry when people struggle, and Eric O’Flaherty wasn’t able to pitch effectively today so who knows.
