Happy Fourth of July, unless you own Yasiel Puig, then you’re wondering if A) He’s healthy B) Where was Carlos Quentin during this?  If you haven’t seen it, here’s another look of Puig crashing into the wall.  Why do I suddenly want to buy a Subaru?  This comes the same day he won Player and Rookie of the Month honors.  That’s the first time a player has won Player of the Month honors their first month in the majors.  It’s not the first time a player has won Rookie of the Month honors in their first month.  If that’s surprising, you should take your medication.  After crashing into the wall, Puig originally stayed in the game and he’s a cyborg, so I think he escaped without anything serious happening.  Right now, he’s listed as day-to-day with a bruised hip and thigh.  Let’s hope it heals quickly because I just sold my Cougar’s engagement ring for 3,000 Yasiel Puig rookie cards.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Carlos Marmol – Dodgers traded for him, then sent him to the minors.  Sounds like the Dodgers are taking a page from fantasy baseballers (<–my mom’s term!) when they pick up Marmol, think twice and drop him.

Zack Greinke – 5 IP, 5 ER, 13 baserunners (7 BBs), 4 Ks.  I get that it was in Coors, but what a garbage start this was.  Seven walks?  What are you doing, your best YoGa impersonation?  What’s that pose called?  Downward facing fantasy starter?  I really think something’s still wrong with his collarbone and I’m actively trying to trade him.  Nick, the podcast host, voice, “You have been advised.”

Matt Kemp – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer.  If you listened to the fantasy baseball podcast yesterday, you know Kemp is the player I’m most excited about buying low right now.  Go to it, young prematurely balding man!

Hanley Ramirez – 4-for-5, 3 runs and his 7th homer, and I’d still be looking at selling Hanley.  Hopefully that turns out better than my Chris Davis sell about 77 homers ago.

Tyler Chatwood – 5 IP, 5 ER.  The little blue pill you took turned into an after-dinner regret mint.

Carlos Quentin – 3-for-4, 1 run.  Why couldn’t you have finished the job on Greinke?!

Edinson Volquez – 6 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 6 Ks in Fenway.  I figured this was a stand alone start by a below-average starter, then I looked at his last few starts and he’s put together a 2.70 ERA in his last five and goes home in his next start.  He’s not for the faint of heart (or feint), but he could be a nice little streamer.

Clay Buchholz – Could be back right after the All-Star break, saying yesterday that he’s “finally turned a corner.”  Hopefully, it was a U-turn and not a K-turn.

Jon Lester – 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks vs. the Padres.  Unfortch, his fantasy owners scared everyone around them while he was pitching with chants of “Mo’ Lester!”

Ike Davis – Mets announced that Davis is not being called up yesterday.  The Mets went on to announce the sky is blue, water is wet and the rockin’ robin rocks in the tree top all day long, hoppin’ and boppin’ and singin’ his song.

Josh Satin – 1-for-4 and his 1st homer, hitting near .500 in the last week and is the reason why the Mets are in no hurry to promote Ike.  Well, that and the fact Davis went 1-for-178 when he was with them.  Satin is the anti-Davis (and the anti-Christ).  He doesn’t really have great power or any speed or a pitchfork, but he’s excellent with taking a walk, could hit .300 and get played by Al Pacino — who-AH, I’m Satin!  Reminds me a bit of Lyle Overbay, which isn’t a fun comparison.  So let’s say he reminds me of Peter Lorre.  That’s fun!

Cody Ross – 1-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 2nd homer in the last three games.  The hot streak I’ve been saying will come at some point this year?  It’s here.  Grab him now!  Seriously.

Heath Bell – Got the save yesterday.  Well, I have him again on my team and I am so torn on whether or not I should be happy about it.

Randall Delgado – 7 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners (0 BB), 9 Ks, 3.67 ERA and a K per inning.   Delgado has been a touted prospect in the past, but he hasn’t been able to keep his control under, uh, yeah… He currently has a walk rate below two.  If he can keep that going, he’s going to be a huge waiver wire pick up.  It’s still early, homes, I didn’t say he would keep that solid control.  I said if he can.  I looked to pick him up, but felt I didn’t need the risk, but if you do, I could see grabbing him.

Mike Minor – 6 IP, 4 ER, 9 baserunners, 9 Ks vs. the MIA Marlins.  He was hurt by a two-out, 3-run homer by Justin Ruggiano, so this start wasn’t as bad as it looks.  Comforting?  How about this afghan I knitted for you that has a giant squirrel eating Cracker Jack?  Better?

Brian McCann – 1-for-4 and his 10th homer and third this week.  I want to do some Manchurian Candidate shizz with Salvador Perez and make him watch McCann hitting homers.

Chris Johnson – 2-for-4, 1 RBI, hitting near .500 in the last week.  You can wait until Friday’s Buy, or you can grab him now.  Your choice!  Or not.

Ricky Nolasco – 7 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 7 Ks.  Where was this start when I streamed him last week vs. the Padres?!  Yeezus fargin’ Nolasc-hole!

Justin Ruggiano – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and a slam (12) and legs (9).  According to our Player Rater, Ruggiano has been better than Austin Jackson, Ben Revere, Josh Hamilton (well, of course), Ichiro, Victorino, Bourn and Werth, to name some that are owned in 70% more leagues than Ruggiano.

Adeiny Hechavarria – 2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI.  Fine, he’schavarria hot!  Pick him up if you need a hot schmotato.

Paul Konerko – It ain’t easy to hit the Disgraceful List as a hitter, but Konerko pulled it off.  Don’t worry, there will be some people next year who hit the comments with, “Grey, your ‘stache warms my cockles on a cold night, but Konerko is ranked way too low.  He says he’s healthy, boi!”

Jesse Crain – Hit the DL with a shoulder sprain.  That’s a real shame; he was having a nice season.  Did that sound sincere at all?  How am I going to write vows for my wedding?  I can’t even be sincere about one of the best middle relievers.

Hector Santiago – 7 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks.  Another guy that crapped all over my fantasy team and called it porridge last week only to do this after I dropped him.  I need to start looking forward instead of back as my shrink tells me.  Forward:  Santiago gets the Cubs next which isn’t a terrible start.

Gordon Beckham – 2-for-4 and his 1st homer.  Finally, he’s off the schneid!  Or off the Schneider, for completists.  Beckham has 9 RBIs on the year (ha!), but is batting .333 and is hitting near-.400 in the last week.

Scott Feldman – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks vs. the FailSox.  Still don’t think Feldman’s much more than a streamer in most shallow mixed leagues.  Don’t let Zimmermania get a hold of you.

Chris Davis – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 198th homer.  Two more to beat Barry Bonds’ pre-All-Star game record from one of those steroid-fueled years.

Nick Markakis – 2-for-3, 2 runs and eight for his last 16.  No Ma’caca, no Ma’caca!

Matt Holliday – Sat out again with a pinched nerve in his neck.  Well, it is the summer Holliday season.

Shelby Miller – 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks.  Solid bounce back start after getting roughed up for 9 ER in his previous 7 1/3 IP.  That’s the good news.  Bad news, he probably only has about 60 innings left and after the Cardinals moved Lynn into the bullpen last year to save his arm, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the same thing with Miller this year.  I imagine around mid-August this becomes a major issue.  Hopefully not sooner.

Matt Carpenter – 3-for-6, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 8th homer, hitting .324.  Also, Jon Jay went 2-for-6, 3 RBIs and his 5th homer, hitting .243, which is an anagram of Carpenter’s batting line and an anagram of Carpenter is Narc Peter and Jon Jay is a judge and there’s nothing to object to in the Cards offense.  See?!

Matt Garza – 8 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks.  It’s an extravaGarza!

CC Sabathia – 7 IP, 2 ER, 10 baserunners, 9 Ks, lowering his ERA to 4.06 vs. the Twins.  CC has a career ERA under 3.00 against Minnesota.  Know why?  Cause he just eats up those Twinkies.

Trevor Plouffe – 1-for-4 with his 8th homer and third this week.  Plouffe goes the dynamite!  I’d definitely pick him up if I were struggling at corner infidel.

Roberto Hernandez – 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 baserunners, 1 K.  No great Ks in this game, but he’s rocking a solid K-rate on the year and I lurve his next start vs. the Twins.  I’ve already stashed him, FWIWerth.

Chris Carter – 2-for-3, 4 RBIs and two homers (16, 17).  If I saw him on waivers, would I say gimme Carter?  If I needed power or had a hankering for peanuts.

Alex Gordon – Left yesterday’s game after colliding with the wall.  Major League Baseball needs to get rid of the walls!  Gordon might have a concussion and could miss some time.  He was chasing a Kipnis fly ball that turned into an inside-the-parker.  Do you see what you do Kipnis when you don’t regress?  Now there’s blood on your hands.

Eric Hosmer – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 8th homer.  He’s starting to get the hang of this whole giving fantasy value thing.  Maybe next Mostsuckass will get in on it…. Nah!

Ryan Braun – Ron Roenicke is now saying Braun could return before the All-Star break.  If I had a Roenickel every time this guy changed his mind, I’d have about the same amount I make from running a fantasy baseball blog.

Kyle Lohse – 8 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 7 Ks, 3.43 ERA.  Due to his lack of walks, he now has two and a half seasons in a row where he’s looked completely usable if you’re fine getting no Ks.  Yet, he elicits about as much excitement in me as finding out who killed Rose Lawson.   Screw you, The Killing!  How do you end the first season and not freakin’ tell me who killed her?!  Are you kidding me?!  You’re gonna make me watch another season of rainy weather where not one single person has an umbrella?  Buy an umbrella, you gooftards!

Norichika Aoki – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs.  Member last year when he had like two months straight of 3-for-5 games?  He used to get steals too, didn’t he?  What happened there?

Ross Detwiler – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 3 Ks.  This was The One Where Ross Looks Usable But Really Isn’t And Phoebe Writes A Silly Song.

Tony Cingrani – 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 8 baserunners (4 BBs), 5 Ks.  Pretty scary start.  Oh so close to a roofie’ing.  Luckily, this time he had a weak opponent.  He gets the Brewers next and that could be a mess if he starts walking guys like yesterday.

Josh Johnson – 5 IP, 1 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks, but gave up 5 unearned runs.  Like John Holmes, that was Johnson giving a box scare.

Max Scherzer – 6 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 8 baserunners, 8 Ks to move his record to 13-0 and his ERA to 3.09.  I wonder if I can get a skywriter to make emojis over Scherzer’s head.

Alex Avila – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 6th homer.  Since he’s returned (2 games), he’s 3-for-7 with 5 RBIs.  I like Avila a lot for upside, even though he hasn’t given much reason to in the last 15 months.  Maybe he’s finally breaking out now, I say as I scratch my chin.

Victor Martinez – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 7th homer.  He now has a modest 5-game hitting streak as he hits over .300 in the last week.  Might be a decent time to start shopping at V-Mart for counting stats and clothes your friends can make fun of.

Jeff Locke – 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 10 baserunners, 2 Ks.  I feel like we’re about three innings away from his 2.12 ERA becoming 3-something, then 4-something.  Member the way the Pirates crashed in the 2nd half of last year?  It’s coming again.  Too bad major league teams don’t make fantasy-like trades.  They don’t ever try to sell high if they’re in the pennant race.  I’d tell you to sell Locke, as well, but who the hell is buying Locke?  The man in black playing Senet on the beach?

Pedro Alvarez – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 21st homer.  His name is Pedro from Pittsburgh.  His Craiglist Missed Connections name is Pedro from Pittsburgh.  They are one in the same.  He keeps things simple, and hits homers.

Andrew McCutchen – 3-for-3, 2 runs and his 17th steal.  Thank you, Ganesha, that he’s stealing a bunch because he only has 9 homers, which is terrific…For a middle infielder.

Jason Grilli – 1 IP, 2 ER.  Still notched the save and has a 2.15 ERA on the year, but I bet you five OTI dollars that Melancon and his 0.87 ERA gets saves by August.

John Lannan – 5 IP, 4 ER, 14 baserunners, 5 Ks.  Phils are in trade talks for Lannan.  One rumor has him going to China for three cart-pushing, dim sum ladies.

Delmon Young – 3-for-5, 1 run, hitting almost .500 in the last week.  A hot schmotato is a dish best served hot.  Hence the name.

Domonic Brown – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 22nd homer.  Kinda insane he’s on pace for 40+ homers.  I mean, I don’t think he comes anywhere near that number, but it’s still crazy.  Cust kayin’.

Bartolo Colon – 7 IP, 2 ER, 10 baserunners, 0 K, 2.78 ERA.  See that guy walking down the street?  Yeah, him.  He could have a sub-3 ERA on the A’s and/or hit 20 homers.  They’re charmed.

Jarrod Parker – Pushed back to Saturday.  Hope it was a light push, he has a sore hamstring.

Dan Straily – Will now start in Parker’s place today vs. the Cubs.  I imagine the Stream-o-Nator won’t have this start updated for today, so I’ll give you my take.  *clearing throat*  Oh, wait a minute, I’m writing, not talking.  The Cubs aren’t the 1927 Blue Jays, but they just did work against Alfredo Jettuccine, so I’d avoid Straily and his 5.00 ERA in most leagues.  Then again, they’re charmed.   You puzzle me, A’s.

Jerome Williams – 1 2/3 IP, 7 ER.  *opening the window*  Screaming, “Watch out, Jerome Williams is falling back to earth!”

Tom Wilhelmsen – 1 IP, 0 ER and his 17th save.  Womb Tilhelmsen is back in his happy place, closing games.  BTW, when someone asks where your birthplace is, say just south of your mother’s vagina.

Kyle Seager – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 12 homer, and third this week.  Seager’s got Night Moves.

David Murphy – 2-for-3 and his 9th homer.  Damn, I almost picked him up here because he kills F-Her and Hitter-Tron loved it.  Too bad I had to walk in on the Hitter-Tron and a motherboard to find out.

Derek Holland – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 10 Ks, 3.13 ERA vs. M’s.  This comes after his shutout in Yankees Stadium.  Muah!  That’s me blowing my two lips at Holland.

Alexi Ogando – Set to start his rehab assignment on Saturday, which would have him return in about ten days.  Fun fact!  Ogando writes parables under the name O Gonad.

Manny Ramirez – Signed a deal with the Rangers and will report to Triple-A Round Rock.  He’s not the first athlete to hit the minors near Round Rock.  Lawrence Taylor comes to mind.

Nothing about terry Collins putting Harvey out there yet again with 100 pitches or more for another inning just to have him get rocked and then taken out so a reliever could give up his runs? I really really hate this guy.. He gets my vote for worst manager in the league.. If they are trying to limit Harvey’s innings in a smart way they HAVE to get rid of this guy. He makes dusty baker look like he have a shit about prior and woods arms.

    • bossmanjunior says:
      (link)

      @Troy:

Completely agree. Saw the pitch count and just assumed he was done. Checked my ERA an hour later and couldn’t figure out why it went up. F***ing Collins.

    • Jack Full of Hate says:
      (link)

@Troy: in the real world they play the game different, Collins still has a job to do, Harvey is a tough SOB, and he’s pitching at home, have you seen the Mets pen, or lack there of? The reality is the manager has a lot of reasons for doing what he does and it doesn’t always make sense to us because we are just really selfish stat whores with our fantasy tinted glasses

      • Troy says:
        (link)

@Jack Full of Hate: maybe I would agree with u if he hasn’t done this 3 or 4 other times and every time Harvey struggles a lot for that extra inning. I have seen him out him out there for a extra inning in either the 7th or 8th this season where Harvey give up 3 or more base runners and 2 or more runs and he hasn’t got our of that extra inning yet. I’m just saying he has a job to do agreed, doesn’t he also have a future ace to protect? Don’t think putting him out there for the extra strain after he already had 3 very stressful innings is my idea of protecting your future ace… Plain dumb regardless of fantasy or not.

        • Sanfran says:
          (link)

          @Troy: I

I actually agree with JFOH. The Mets are playing for the future and Harvey is a cornerstone piece. He has to learn how to finish these type games and compete when his pitch count is higher. If he has a short history of fading in the 7/8, then he needs to learn how to adjust his stuff to finish. It is not always about protecting – these type decisions (hopefully) are about developing Harvey as an ace for the long term.
Still sucks for his FB owners…

          • Nate says:
            (link)

@Sanfran: “Learning how to finish those types of games” is a less valuable commodity to overall arm durability. A week after the Mets announce an inning cap because “they don’t want to sacrifice the future for the now” they send him back out in a game he should have been out of. I would imagine Collins hears something about this. It’s not as big a deal as we make it… but it was the wrong decision whether you’re managing the Mets or a fantasy team…

              (link)

              @Nate:

He threw 110 pitches…total..that is not pushing any boundaries

              • Chicken Dinner says:
                (link)

@sanfran1966: I agree. He’s a big strong kid who’s logged enough innings at this point in his career to throw 100 plus pitches.

                • Troy says:
                  (link)

@Chicken Dinner: 110 isn’t that much but when ur trying to “protect ur future ave it just isn’t smart. Especially when they have done it few times before and it’s ended horribly besides the game against the white sox

      • Nate says:
        (link)

@Jack Full of Hate: I agree we can be “selfish stat whores” but the Mets are NOT playing for anything right now… this comes less than a week after the Mets announce an innings cap for Harvey, then they decide to send him back out to stretch him for another 15 or so pitches? It makes no sense in real baseball or fantasy baseball. It was a dumb move.

        • AJA says:
          (link)

The Mariners did the exact same thing with Felix Hernandez in 2008 and as a Felix owner it drove me nuts and I traded him. From a real baseball perspective it could be argued that it helped him build up strength to pitch deep into games, since he took a huge leap the next season and won the Cy Young.

          • Psychedelic says:
            (link)

@AJA: ya but Felix has also logged the most innings out of all pitchers during that span and he’s slowly losing velocity, and do you really want your ace to be a shell of his former self before your team even gets relevant again? I would try and limit as much innings and stress as possible until you have a decent team around him and the games actually matter.

Hello, Grey, how do you rank Greinke, Garza, and Shelby ROS?

    • Jack Full of Hate says:
      (link)

@Jack: thats a tough one, if Garza ends up in Texas then he falls down, it really depends on Garza’s destination, if he ends up on the Dodgers then it’s Garza, Greinke, Miller, but if you play Greinke correctly, starting him at home and favorable road games, then Greinke, Garza, Miller.

ok, in 16 teamer am in weird pos of having too many starts this week that i don’t need with big edge on K’s/era/whip/wins/losses. So with that in mind which are the worst 4 starts of these. I had picked up martin perez due to him kicking ass like nick cage in Wicker Man the last 2 starts back last week in case i needed him this week. His next 2 starts are at BAL and DET. Like the obese squirrel said to the waiter…….. So i suppose I’ll drop him after tomorrow whether or not he’s played for either Fausto Carmona Incognito’s next start, or Porcello or Kluber, but only if one of those 2 don’t look shitty in their next starts. Or just get early jump on C-Mart.
    Perez vs SEA
    Cole vs PHI
    Gee vs ARI
    Milone @KC
    Kendrick vs ATL
    Hefner @ MIL
    Bailey vs SEA
    Medlen @ PHI
I’m already winning k’s 30-7. My opponent only has starts by Chacin and Lyles left. I likely can bench most of my 8 starts. Especially is Chacin gets lit up tomorrow, in that case I can likely bench all of my remaining starts.
I’m guessing the worst starts are Kendrick (off concusssion against decent offense),Hefner (still ownable due to last 6 or so starts),Perez (bad K rate, bad stadium),Milone(ownable, but terrible whip and overall in last 3).

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@goodfold2: my opponent is the same guy that beat me last year by a half game due to me benching upton on his best day of the year. This dipstick thinks it’s wise to have less than 5 SP and just loads up on way too many bench bats. But seemingly does draft SP fairly early, then trades them for even more bats as he figures out his offensive weaknesses. He just traded sale/beltre for fielder/reyes. This trade is going to improve his offense, but his team is set up to pretty much never win wins and K’s. Now he finds himself soon to likely be dead in all pitching cats besides saves. I feel so bad for him (he’s in like 13th) i’m trying to convince him to flip some of those 9 bench OF’s to somebody who needs them but has a lot of middle type SP’s.

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@goodfold2: when i said beat me, i meant for the season’s best record and no small $ value. Season record in this league is worth more than the playoff champion, as it should be.

Should i trade Shelby Miller for Matt Kemp straight up?

    • MJ says:
      (link)

@Ribbies: HOLD. I made that exact trade after Shelby pitched his one-hitter. Kemp right now can be had a lot cheaper than Shelby and considering his last jack was in Coors I still consider him to be a question mark. In short, Shelby’s next two starts are up against the Astros and the Cubs so you should be able to get a LOT more in return than Kemp and in a week you’ll still be able to make the same trade if you’re still a believer. I’d rather own Puig right now than Kemp

if one already owns burnett/liriano/cole is beachy or wandy better DL stash? Burnett’s back soon and Wandy probably in not too long, this’ll probably bump Cole. I’m currently also trying to form monopoly on PIT starters, i can start with 1 free category given to me each week by opponent if I can own all 5 SP for any team. Unless of course, the opp has a monopoly of his own. While getting 1/12th of the cat just by doing this would be nice, i still don’t want to own Locke, even with his essay about the understanding being so clearheaded and influential.

Happy 4th Grey and to all of Yanks (from Canada).

Grey, I’m in a keeper league…oldest player I have is Beltre…do you think he can be a top-50 player for a couple more seasons…I am thinking of making a hard push for Machado, but I’m also thinking that there will be credible 3Bs available over the next few years (Bogaerts – I’m thinking he pulls a Machado).

only a 10-team mixed, 15 keeper league, no limits (at the moment)

    1. Keep Beltre as main 3B and wait
    2. Sell Beltre and get a David Wright or a Machado

P.S. I would have to sell the farm to get Machado, but I have a lot of land to sell…feel the price for Machado will only get higher.

Thanks ahead of time…stay safe all of you partiers!

    Hey Grey,

    Great write up as usual.
I am sitting on a trade offer in my 14-team points league (Total Bases carries more weight in the equation than any other stat). There is no waiver wire in this league, we have two supplemental drafts. We already held the first supplemental draft at the end of June, and the final draft isn’t until the beginning of August.

I give Jean Segura and Bruce or Justin Upton
I get Ryan Braun and Edwin Encarnacion

I would be replacing Segura with Erick Aybar, but if he get’s injured, I would be without a Shortstop.

Thanks, and have a great America Day!

    14 Team OBP, 5×5.

My Matt Carpenter & Edward Mujica for his Jeff Samardzija?

Carpenter is a fill-in player for me (between Altuve at 2nd, Arenado at 3rd, Dunn/Rizzo/Adrian Gonzalez at 1st/Util & Alex Gordon/JUpton/Trout in the Outfield).

Currently in 3rd place in saves with Wilhelmsen & Greg Holland.

I could use the starting pitching with my hodge podge of starting pitching: Hamels, Shelby, Milone, Burnett, Cueto, Cingrani, Martin Perez & Eovaldi

    • Long Bawls says:
      (link)

@Matt: I feel like you’re giving up too much; esp. because it’s hitting for pitching.

    (link)

Deal for David Wright in a H2H 6×6 with “KO-BB” and no CI spot?
My 3B are currently Freese, Arenado, and AmRam.
I’d have to give up Arenado who can be kept for 3 years in 21st, 19th, and 17th rounds if desired.
    I’m torn.
Thanks and have a great holiday.

    • Long Bawls says:
      (link)

@Tbone: So the deal is you get Wright and give up Arenado? How’s your team for speed?

      • Tbone says:
        (link)

        @Long Bawls:
Fairly slow so I like Wright for help there…if he continues to run.
Minimal contributions from everyone…Votto, Utley, Zobrist, Dom, Gordon, Hos. Main guy is Coco who doesn’t play every week and hasn’t been stealing at a great clip anyway.

        • Long Bawls says:
          (link)

@Tbone: I’d say bird-in-the-hand it. Wright is great now. Arenado might be in future. Lotta variables but, for this year at least, you’re trading up.

Mr Gray and All: Picking up Beckham yesterday before the matches saved my bacon on an otherwise lousy day at the plate .. Other than Hanley – of course…

AND…. BUD NORRIS!!!!! BUD NORRIS!!! DID YA HERE THAT?? BUD NORRIS!!! CHA CHING!!!

Has Bud Norris come of age???… Are the next 3 season going down as” The Bud Norris Age of MLB”???

I have not bought that ticket yet… But something is definitely happening… His Ks are down a bit – but, more importantly his BBs are too – and have been falling every year… Has something sunk into the noggin of his, finally???

The MAGPIES will be going back to a Top Gun flight school over the ALL STAR break to sharpen up their beaks… Perhaps, I’ll give you all a glimpse inside the inner workings of a FBB club – with Heckle and Jeckle at the controls… If any 2 birds can whip the MAGPIES into shape for the 2nd half run at the pennant, it’s those 2 great ones

A comment on SP this year… This truly has been an unpredictable year for the top pitchers in MLB… The old truism that it is hard to predict pitching has raised its ugly head in a big way this season..

I am not a big believer in that truism year in year out… But, I did get bit pretty hard on all my teams this season.. I had been on a good roll ignoring it for about the last 5 years… Sooner or later, you’ve just got to pay the fiddler..

Anyways .. Have a Happy and Safe 4th All

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Grey: almost all of these pitchers that are having problems are the really highly drafted ones that grey advises against paying in the draft for anyway, stras/verlander/price (grey traded for him, not drafted him). I have Scherzer/Peavy/Bailey as my best pitchers in a 16 teamer and got them above their ADP’s but still by following Grey’s pitcher pairing plan. In a 10 teamer earliest pitcher’s were Lee/Scherzer/Samardzija. Would’ve been Latos or Peavy in there instead of Samardzija. But other than Peavy’s injury (and the 2 games he played injured) those guys have all been very good . We all knew about Peavy’s injury history, as well.

@Grey: some of the homies go every year and they have had some really great line ups. I might be able to float some tickets your way if I can get the good homie discount. For all your hard work in dealing with me a reward awits you at the end of the rainbow

BTW, I saw my buddy last night at the bar and he had his vape pipe. The thing is f**king awesome. It has the most natural feel for any device I have used. Feels perfect. I am going to be on an on line hunt now to get me one!

So I have the same neurosurgeon as the STL Cardinals – had back surgery last year for a blown disc and some pretty awesome nerve pain. Anyway, I went in for a checkup a few weeks ago because my back had been bothering me and my doc tells me he’s giving me the Matt Holliday treatment (although a slightly lower dosage of steroids). I say “well I’m assuming he’s in a little better shape than I am.” Doc says “his back isn’t.” I’m just going to say, my back is effed. If his is worse, I’m staying FAR FAR away from him.

Now, on to baseball question: would you prefer Lackey or Fister for the rest of the year?

@Big Magoo: am i the only one who’s always thought when he heard “adult beverages” something that would only be in sex clubs or porn? Alcohol doesn’t seem to fit the criteria of “adult” beverage. In the middle ages everyone drank alcohol, water wasn’t safe, so it was pretty much tea/coffee/brandy/beer/vodka/mead/wine. Only if you were rich or lived in the area they grew did you get fruits or fruit juices. Children still do in some cultures. But only adult have the requisite organ(s) to make sexual byproducts.

Keeper League: Trade Matt Harvey for Pablo Sandoval?

    • Psychedelic says:
      (link)

@Yo: what ?? Why on earth would you do that? In a keeper league Harvey is by far the best pitcher to own right now, I wouldn’t trade him for anything less then a top 5 position player, and sandavol is not that.

        • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:

@JoeMorgan’sMustache: it’s ambriz time if he’s hurt, right? or cisnero? I got ollie perez to drop and need saves in 16 team land where i still only have 2 closers after trading odorizzi/bell/brothers over a month ago for aybar/medlen.

I keep seeing you recommend Eaton as the best DL stash.I haven’t been paying attention to the D-backs,but isn’t their OF a little crowded or did I miss an injury or suckage or something? How often do you think he’ll start?
In a fit of insanity, when Price came off the DL I stashed A-Rod in my third and final DL spot,I’ve got Beltre and Mattt Carp( who is almost unsittable) for my 3B ,also have stashed Morse and Beachy(who I believe will do me more good than Ogando in the H2H palyoffs),plus it’s a holds league if he spends a little time in the BP.

So if Eaton is going to play regularly,I guess I dump A-Rod for him, correct?

last night you told me gyorko is more expendable than rollins when gyorko comes back off DL. is this more because of how insanely hot rollins got 2nd half last year, because he’s simply better than gyorko, or because with gyorko i would only have 1 ss, but with rollins i would still have 2 ss’s and 2 2b’s?

Happy 4th Grey! Is it time to start shopping Shelby Miller? Any pitching names that would be on the top of your list as targets? I’m looking over the players in my league and the one that jumped out was Jordan ZImmerman. He’s been solid this year and isn’t the kind of big name that people have trouble parting with. The same guy also has Kemp. He’s hurting at 3rd base with Panda. I have Longo and Pedro Alvarez. I also have Dominic Brown, would you consider him a sell high at this stage? Any thoughts on what would be a good offer for J Zim and Kemp? Would MIller, Alvarez and Brown be too much as an opening offer?
