Lisa Ann just followed me back on Twitter! Oh wait, where am I … ummm … the podcast, right, the prospect podcast! Ralph and Halp deliver a jam-packed episode this week, starting with the recent call-ups of Francis Martes, Sean Newcomb, Jacob Faria, and Brett Phillips (we recorded too early to cover Josh Hader’s call-up). We then get into a 2-man mock draft of 2017 MLB Draft prospects for fantasy baseball purposes, discussing everybody from Hunter Greene, Kyle Wright, and Brendan McKay, to Tristen Lutz, Stuart Fairchild, and Brian Miller. It’s the latest edition of the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Prospect Podcast:

Good morning , thanks for the podcast and greys analysis on Amed Rosario. Should I trade both Trevor story and Jonathan Villar and then add Rosario? And if I can’t find a trade partner should I just drop both ?

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Jacobi Barron: I personally wouldn’t drop either and would prefer both to Rosario for the rest of this season. I’m usually not the guy to scoop every prospect who gets called up though in redrafts. Long term it is a little more tricky, as their values are probably pretty close together in a dynasty league.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Jacobi Barron: Of course if Villar is out for a long time that would make the decision easy for you.

      • Jacobi Barron says:
        (link)

@Halp: thank so for the advice. Was going to keep both but I just looked on waiver wire and Mitch haniger is available. Should I pick him up and who should I drop between story and villar?

        • Halp

          Halp says:
          (link)

@Jacobi Barron: I like Haniger too. I would wait to see more news on Villar’s injury, but I lean Villar over Story because he has more speed, I really think Story is due for a hot streak though, and would really not want to drop him. There is too much talent available in your league! ha

          • Jacobi Barron says:
            (link)

@Halp: your right trying to acquire all of it. Appreciate your help.

  2. tvera says:

In a 16 team Dynasty League, have Cano, Gyorko, Castro, Scott Kingery and Yoan Moncada as 2B and Ult players i need of pitching have been offered McCullers & Pineda for Cano, yay or nay. Also where would Walker buehler rank in up coming ranks.

    • tvera says:
      (link)

      @tvera:

      h2h league , with k/9, QS, K/BB & BB/9, WHIP,ERA W as counting pitcher stats

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@tvera: That is a really good offer even if you didn’t need pitching and weren’t deep at 2B. I would accept that. As for Buehler, just ballparking it, I would say he is a top 40 guy and a top 10 starter prospect.

  3. Nightpandas says:
    (link)

    Morning Halp,

Who do you like for next year and beyond Thor or Sale?

Also Barreto or Tim Anderson same question…

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

      @Nightpandas: Morning Nightpandas,

Have to go Sale because he doesn’t have the health concerns Thor has right now.

I like Anderson by a hair over Barreto. More proven in the Majors and Barreto might not stick at SS.

  4. Jared Culverhouse says:
    (link)

    Dynasty roto:

Would you do Bumgarner and Jacob Barnes for Kuechel, Brad Miller, and Cam Bedrosian/Alford?

For dynasty I have a hard time turning loose of a guy like Bumgarner.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Jared Culverhouse: I’m a Bumgarner guy myself, so I think I would hold, but it is a fair deal because Keuchel is damn good himself.

  5. Anodyne says:
    (link)

I’ve got a space on my roster to add a minor leaguer from the free agent pool, but of course most of the top guys are already rostered. These are the guys from y’all’s preseason top 100 who are still available:

    Rowdy Tellez
    Bobby Bradley
    Austin Riley
    Thomas Szapucki
    Delvin Perez
    Luis Alexander Basabe
    Will Craig
    Travis Demeritte
    Ian Anderson
    Desmond Lindsay
    Bryan Reynolds
    Alex Kirilloff
    Chase Vallot

If you could add one of these guys, who would you add? Or is there somebody you didn’t rank in the preseason whom you’d prefer?

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Anodyne: Scott Kingery would be a good pick up if he is still available. Colten Welker is another really good one. I would see if I could one of those guys first. If not, Delvin Perez would be a solid pick up for upside.

      • Anodyne says:
        (link)

@Halp: Kingery is already taken, and Welker isn’t available yet in Yahoo. So Perez it is! Thanks for the tip. And yeah, I’m definitely looking for upside as opposed to “safe” guys who are close to the majors. Much prefer a guy who has a chance to move up these prospect lists over the next year or two, since I’m trying to build value.

        • Halp

          Halp says:
          (link)

@Anodyne: With the recent offensive explosion, I’ve been leaning upside all year too.

  6. Chris says:
    (link)

    Hi Halp,

I got last week Amed for my NA Spot.

I’m going to drop SS Russell.
Which do you recomend to pick up:
    Hernan Perez
    Simmons
    Tim Beckham
    Swanson

    H2H, 12 teams
avg, obp, r, rbi, hr, sb, tb

    Thanks,
    Chris

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Chris: Perez I’m worried about long term with playing time, although it should never dry up completely. I would still probably take him for the short term and then figure it out later if he loses playing time. Beckham is a close second for me and doesn’t have any playing time concerns.

  7. Dave Weinnstein says:
    (link)

Would you pick up Mancini in a full dynasty league? He is available via trade for essentially nothing…do you think he has a solid future with the O’s? I’m a bit torn about him, but production has been solid thus far.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Dave Weinnstein: Sure, Mancini is worth a hold in a Dynasty League if you can pick him up for nothing. I’m unsure of his future playing time, but with how he is hitting there are worse fliers to take.

  8. Sport says:
    (link)

I love hearing and reading you and Ralph’s stuff. I believe Grey called it Halph Prospect talk or something?!?

I took over a bad team in a 16 team league. My only closer is Ramos and starting to get offers from contenders for him. I already have Acuna, Tatis Jr, Isan Diaz, Robles, Calhoun, Derek Fisher, Kingery, Collins, Allard, and Buehler.

I was offered JP Crawford for Ramos. Do I go for more? Maybe Crawford and Kyle Tucker? I’m new to trading in a dynasty format so what is good return for a closer?

    Thank you!

    • Sport says:
      (link)

@Sport: Also, where do you see Aidan Diaz playing? He is listed as SS but I have read others list him as 2B. If Tatis and Diaz neither one pan out as SS then I would need one as it’s my weakest position right now.

      • Halp

        Halp says:
        (link)

@Sport: Maybe it is slipping my mind but I don’t know an Aidan Diaz.

        • Sport says:
          (link)

@Halp: Stupid auto correct….Isan Diaz of the Brewers. Sorry.

          • Halp

            Halp says:
            (link)

@Sport: Yea, consensus seems to be Diaz is going to be a 2B

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Sport: Thanks, Sport! JP is a divisive prospect, so it really comes down to how much you like him. That deal makes sense to me for Ramos though, who is a bit of a shaky closer. Getting Tucker would be highway robbery and I probably wouldn’t even ask, but based on the trade offers I get, other people would ask, ha.

      • Sport says:
        (link)

@Halp: That’s what I was thinking about Ramos. I don’t own him on any of my other teams for that reason. WHat are the chances gen is even closing in two years when I might be competitive?

        • Halp

          Halp says:
          (link)

@Sport: yea, it makes sense to trade him for best deal available in your position

  9. dfrench23 says:
    (link)

Tom Murphy over Alex Avila? 2-catcher league and I also have Russell Martin.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@dfrench23: i would stick with avila because i think murphy is going to split time at best when he returns.

  10. A2K says:
    (link)

    Halph;

Just started listening to the Prospect Podcasts about 3 weeks ago, good stuff. Really enjoy hearing you guys talk about the future.

How long until we see Hoskins? Is there a date which would be the cut off to delay his arb eligibility clock?

Thanks for all you guys do

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@A2K: thanks! I think it has more to do with joseph than than the arb clock, but im sure that is a factor. I’ll guess he forces his way into at bata by august but it is a pure guess

  11. Rosscoe says:
    (link)

    Nice job as always Halph!

I drafted Yordan Alvarez in the Razz30 FYPD in the offseason. Feeling pretty good about that now!

The last few years my draft strategy has pretty much been draft college bats early and scout teams like the Astros and Dodgers international signings for late round flyers. Usually works pretty well, but I’m not sure about this year…

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Rosscoe: thank you! Great pick and i think your strategy is excellent. Sometimes you gotta take a shot on a good player in a shit organization, but i get the hesistation. We can only draft these guys, we cant develop them

  12. Halp,

Thanks again for the shout out bro, really appreciate it. Another awesome episode, you and Ralph killed it once again.

Who do you like ROS out of the young Rays arms – Snell/Faria/Honeywell/DeLeon (assuming injury is minor)? I’m definitely highest on Honeywell long-term, but also feel like that cheap-ass franchise is gonna keep him buried in the minors as long as possible, especially with all these other options.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Kenneth Cashman: no problem. Thanks again for the shirt. I think it is honeywell too. But yea, they may go with their other options this year

      • @Halp: I hear ya. I just freed up an NA spot in a redraft league, and as much as I like Honeywell I think I’m better off going in a different direction.

Also, if you or anyone else come across any prospects who’s name rhymes with Mike Foltynewicz please send them my way.

  13. Joe Buck's Schwarboner says:
    (link)

Hey Halph! Who would you take between Story/Lackey vs Owings/Shoemaker? H2H, offensive strikeouts, OBP, SLG, QS, and pitching K/BB all count. Limited keepers, Story would be a 22nd rounder if he rebounds enough to be kept, others likely not being kept.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Joe Buck’s Schwarboner: tough one. Slight lean towards story and lackey but dont feel that strongly about it.

      • Joe Buck's Schwarboner says:
        (link)

@Halp: That was my exact take on it. I was the one who proposed it, and I think that side just has a tiny bit more upside. The whole league erupted in an uproar because some people thought the Owings side was that much better

          • Halp

            Halp says:
            (link)

@Halp: Oh wait, nevermind, read that backwards. ha, yea, that is why I hate playing in veto leagues.

  14. coacher says:
    (link)

5×5 roto OBP, HR, R, RBI, SB – we can stash two minor league guys. The top rated guys available are Albies, Senzel, W.Adames, B.Rodgers, Moniak, Devers, Kyle Tucker, and Vlad Jr.

I have Robles and Barretto. Would you drop one or both for any of the above guys?

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@coacher: i would drop barreto for tucker, vlad jr or devers. Any would do. I personally lean tucker because he should chip in with steals but it is very close

      • coacher says:
        (link)

@Halp: OK thanks….just did. Robles is the real deal, right? I don’t really want to drop him but like Devers chances a lot since there isn’t really anything standing in his way to be the next 3B of Boston.

        • Halp

          Halp says:
          (link)

@coacher: Robles is legit and an all categories guy. Devers should be owned in every league that holds prospects though, so you have some tough choices. If you want proximity, probably go Devers over Tucker because like you said Devers has a direct path to the majors while Houston has a logjam of outfielders.

  15. AL KOHOLIC says:
    (link)

hoskins or kingery for an n/a position, looking for help this year and a keeper in 10 team league with 6 keepers, thanks another great job

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@AL KOHOLIC: Thanks. I think Hoskins has the best shot of contributing this year, but I don’t think either are worthy of a keeper spot in a 10 team, keep 6 league.

  16. AL KOHOLIC says:
    (link)

thanks kingery hr and steals at 2nd are appealing though

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@AL KOHOLIC: Yea, I’m a big Kingery fan too

  17. AL KOHOLIC says:
    (link)

keep Faria in my n/a over them two then

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@AL KOHOLIC: Faria’s been a favorite sleeper of mine for a couple years, but I would probably take both over him. If Hoskins does eventually come up this year, there is an outside shot he could be keepable in your league, whereas Faria I highly doubt would ever be keepable in a ten team keep 6.
