On Dancer!  On Prancer!  On–Oh, I didn’t hear you come in.  Welcome, reader!  Grab some egg nog and brandy it up to the fire.  You look festive.  I love that Rudolph tongue ring.  That’s the great thing about Christmas, no matter what your interpretation is, it’s all about commercialism.  That’s unless you light the Munenori Kawasaki. The 2017 fantasy baseball rankings are not far away.  Right now, January Grey is throwing darts at a board to figure out where to rank Jay Bruce.  Exciting!   In the meantime, let’s look at the players who have multiple position eligibility for this upcoming 2017 fantasy baseball season.  The biggest surprise from this list?  Marwin Gonzalez played how many games at 1st base?  Hayzeus Cristo!  I did this list of multi-position eligible players because I figured it would help for your 2017 fantasy baseball drafts.  I’m a giver, snitches!  Happy Holidays!  I only listed players that have multiple position eligibility of ten games or more played outside of their primary position.  Not FIVE games at a position, not six, definitely not seven. Ten games.  10, the Laurel & Hardy of numbers.  So this should cover Yahoo, ESPN, CBS, et al (not the Israeli airline).  Yes, Christmas came two days early this year.  Players with multiple position eligibility are listed once alphabetically under their primary position.  This is the only time a year I do anything alphabetically, so I might’ve confused some letters.  Is G or H first?  Who knows, and, better yet, who cares?  Wow, someone’s got the Grinchies, must be the spiked egg nog talking.  Anyway, here’s all the players with multiple position eligibility for the 2017 fantasy baseball season and the positions they are eligible at:

    Grey!!!

    Great write-up.

    a. This list is really fantastic as a source of information. Some of the entries you could have left out and no one would have noticed.

    1. Ji-Man Choi – I had my eyes on him during my season of unrest at 1B after, I first autobot drafted Gonzo and then second realized I that I autobot drafted Gonzo – dropping him to the curb just before he went nuts for 2 HRs that weekend, ‘member?. Ji-Man is a match-ups guy but he was hot for like 3 games last year!!

    2. Descalso – I call him disgusting Descalso. I was so desperate for any kind of run production that I was close to actually drafting him. Every time I was about to click confirm, I shied away. The only thing going for him was injuries to others and playing in Coors. He didn’t take too much advantage of the latter did he?

    b. Have a nice weekend. Best to all celebrating Christmas!

    Cheers,
    Ante

Is there any say on the major sires what a schwarber will have as positions? Any chance he keeps the C status for 2017?

@Troy: I think there is a chance… Yahoo has said he will be catcher (then said he wouldn’t then said he would)…

As far as acting roles, is it me or is there a clear delineation between ‘Steve Zahn could do no wrong’ and ‘Steve Zahn could do no right?’

@Grey: Haha. Honestly, those are the only 2 Steve Zahn roles that immediately popped into my head.

I consider Saving Silverman his peak performance.

@Grey: After a quick IMDB search, no, I don’t believe he ever was. Maybe there’s a better delineation for Gregg Zaun.

                      (link)

@Grey: Ha. Well I get zero days off for the holidays, so my Saturday and Sunday are pretty much filled with driving to my parents, driving to my girl’s family out of state, and circling back Sunday night to be at work Monday morning. Fun.

                      How about you? Florida right?

Yeah, I’m in Palm Beach now with family… went to get coffee yesterday and road was blocked for two hours due to Trump… *shakes fist*

                      (link)

@Grey: Was it blocked just because foreigners use it or was he there?

I got extra days for the holidays, just used them already. Going to wild and wonderful WV. Her parents don’t live in the sticks but apparently her grandma does. Have never been there before, but heard it looks like time stopped in 1950 there.

Don’t think I’m lucky enough for a log cabin, though fingers crossed for running water. Looked it up, elevation is higher than the population…and it’s only 713 above sea level.

@Grey: Just over 2 years. Good god does she get mad at WV stereotypes. She’s studied modern dance and lived in NYC, took ballet classes in Italy, traveled the world with her family. Despite all that…an Austrian asked where they were from in the airport and when they told him WV he said, “Well at least you have shoes.”

@Grey: We’ve been slacking lately and throwing in a shrimp cocktail or crab dip to complete the seven. Fried smelts, linguini with clam sauce, and baccala are our staples. And a deli tray son!

Florida seems like prime seafood dinner time.

Hey Grey! I think you’ve either under- or overestimated Yahoo! Here’s what their position eligibility says:

“Batters need either 5 Games Started or 10 Games Played at a position to gain eligibility. Pitchers need 3 Starts to gain SP eligibility, 5 Relief Appearances to gain RP eligibility.”

        Kendry Morales — 1B, OF
        Blake Swihart — C, OF
        Jorge Polanco — 2B, 3B, SS

@Grey: so it’s 10 in-season. How many to carry over?

I know you’re being facetious, but I honestly don’t think Yahoo has a set number, they just list guys with eligibility as they please

Who would you rather have in an OBP keeper, 8 teams and we keep 8:

another reason i finally just now caught up from early september posts is i was catching up on some shows i didn’t see the first time round, one of those was boardwalk empire. and i think i found out where they got the idea for mickey doyle (the pole who changed his name to sound irish, sort of a saul goodman in reverse, guy with the funny laugh who was thrown over the balcony by darmody and who literally everybody wondered by season 5 “how the fuck are you still alive!?”), this guy (the bully) seems to be the snarky character from which they got his personality/voice

Hey Grey, in a keeper league, what do you think would be a fair 2:1 trade (if any) for a $16 E5 out of the pool of guys below?

    $6 Khris, $5 Scoop, $4 Ozuna, $10 Dahl, $3 Judge

    Thanks!

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Dahl and Davis

  14. Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:

Whoops, left off second question – $4 ozuna, $3 judge or $6 Brantley (keeper league)?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Depends on other keepers, I may go upside of Judge or Brantley

      • Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
        (link)

@Grey: thanks! Other keepers are rizzo, Betts, Kershaw, story, Khris, moncada, Dahl. Brantley and Khris or judge would be fighting for the final keeper spot. I don’t need to finalize keepers until just before spring, so plenty of time to see updates on how Brantley is looking.

@Grey: thanks. And thanks for that E5 suggestion too. Dahl and Khris I think would do it…now I need to decide if I can stomach losing Dahl (super high on him this year and going forward).

It’s a pretty fair deal… I meant it as a way to trade Edwin away, not necessarily as a way to get him

                (link)

@Grey: ah, thanks! Yeah I agree completely – very fair. I’m the Khris/Dahl side, so I may hold and side with the youth movement.

ok, talked to ralph and he thought that n.jones (5.38 million out of 110 budget for each of next 2 years) for this year’s 4.12 and a 2nd from a midpack team wasn’t a bad idea as long as “i had bullpen depth”. on the surface i don’t with only m-cab (ATL) having a holds/save role. i have m.ynoa (only has to move ahead of the likes of putnam/dan jennings/kahnle for a good spot) who’s about to have to be called up soon, sherfy ARI, rj alvarez TEX (even though he can’t be found at depthcharts.com anywhere in their system), and i’d assume at least one of those ends up at one of my 6 RP slots. if i trade n.jones i have 12 roster active spots to fill and with 63.777 mil left i can average 5.315 per spot. last year i could’ve gotten n.jones for maybe 3.5 or so but i overspent a bit.
these RP are available in open bidding, which goes on post draft (so early february):
    harris/bearclaw/watson/melancon/bush/kelley/hand/buchter
    o’day/clippard/f-rod/aj ramos/siegrist/ottavino/vincent/k-rob/givens/neris
    gregerson/j.wilson/cecil/maurer/koji/doolittle/barnette/e.ramos/benoit
    cecil/scribner and others

@Grey: no you said no, BUT at the time you didn’t know (nor did i at that time for sure) which guys would be available. some of that list were guys that might’ve been franchised/restricted but weren’t.

@Grey: hehe, opposite night for you (big time difference, i’ve never been to west coast i can only imagine). i have been in east before and it’s so damn weird when doing sports betting where the times you see you don’t have to automatically adjust (i’m central time normally) one hour back.

the restricted FA are out now, bids go on from now till end of jan 1st. then we get 2 days to match or not. ruling out catchers/RP (kenley/wade/capps/c.allen) probably cost too much or are risky (capps)/ SP (since i have sale and very likely quintana i don’t need to use money on scherzer/strasburg/arrieta/kershaw/price/lester) this leaves these might be worth bidding on:
    MI tulo/cano/zobrist/andrus/crawford/villar
    CI votto/villar/freeman/son of donald/turner/E5/pujols/villar
    OF zobrist/upton/stanton/trumbo/a.jones/braun/cargo 1/cespedes/cain/kemp

i’m guessing i should just throw some out from likely being overbid (tulo/crawford/turner, probably kemp) age/injury risk (pujols). my starting roster is
    C d’arnaud
    CI (2) beltre
    MI (2) segura
    OF (3) altherr/rosario
util (1) drury (could fit into any CI/MI/OF spot)
with all of that (and i can bid more than 1 year when i bid) is this a good ranking for OPS added dynasty leagues: stanton/son of donald/votto/freeman/villar/braun/cano
    cargo 1/E5/cespedes/zobrist/pujols/upton/cain/jones
these guys will likely all cost between 12 and 22 million or so. maybe one or two of them even more, and likely around a 16 average since we upped our budgets to 110 from 100.
