@iaoto, Thanks for reading! Cabrera is definitely confusing. He’s walking a lot more, resulting in a higher on base percentage, which could lead to more stolen base opportunities. Unfortunately, he has only successfully stolen 2 bases out of 5 attempts, suggesting (along with his decreased speed score) that he probably won’t steal more than 10 this year. Maybe, like you said, it’ll change in 2013!

Loved the reference with Maybin. I don’t play in an OPS league, but I think I’ll be reading these more often.
I’ll just ask about steals. Any chance Asdrubal Cabrera gets double digit steals this year, or will I have to wait until next year as his historic pattern suggests and be happy with 17 in 2013?

@TheNewGuy, Good point on the line drives, you’re right that that helps his BABIP. Can’t speak for your leaguemates, but I’m a bit skeptical because he’s never had a long period of being this good. Sure, it could be the year that he breaks out though…

And I should have clarified that I don’t expect much more than an .800 OPS for him for the rest of the season. But that’s not a bad thing, since he had an .800 OPS last year, so I’m saying I believe he can be as good as he was last year for the rest of this season. Also, if he “only” had an .800 OPS the rest of the way, he would set a career high OPS (likely .850+), when averaged with the over .900 OPS he has so far. So while I don’t believe he’s going to continue to post an OPS over .900, I think he’s capable maintain at least an .800 going forward.

@Tom Jacks, Ok here ya on Pacman man but why you not high on Melky? All he’s done is hit all year, and all last year…surely at some stage you have to accept he’s a real legit hitter. And sure his BABIP will drop a little but I don’t think it is all that crazy, dude hits a ton of line drives…surely that affects BABIP? I’ve heard comparisons of him to Tony Gywnn, ok that was only from the forehead (Bochy) but still! lol

Just a discussion anyway, not arguing or anything. I’m sticking with Melky as I can’t sell him off due to my leaguemates not being believers either, just wondering why there is all this scepticism of him. Guy’s been carrying that Giant offence along with Buster all year.

@BK, I don’t see Schafer getting much above a .650 OPS. I’d probably take Rajai Davis over him if he’s available.

@TheNewGuy, For Jones, I could see a slight improvement over his .322 career OBP, but i don’t think he’ll have much more than that. As for his slugging, it should also decrease but could fall just short of .500 the rest of the way. He could have a little better than an .800 OPS from now on…and yeah, his average should drop too.

I don’t believe in Melky much and think his high OPS is mainly due to his BABIP. I wouldn’t expect much more than an .800 OPS for him either.

Well maybe not…thoughts on Adam Jones in OBP/OPS leagues (I only play OBP). Is his walk rate gonna improve or his OBP/OPS due to drop? As good as he is I can’t see that AVG staying as it is.

Also similar question on Melky.

Rostering Schafer in an OPS league for steals — any upside on his .637 OPS? Any other cheap steals guys you would own over him?

@Chips Winton, Campana’s OPS isn’t all that great, but he doesn’t hurt you as much as some other guys because he gets his steals in very few at bats. So, I don’t mind him as much as other low OPS guys, but definitely sit him against lefties if you can.
