Midseason Fantasy Baseball Leagues
Suffering through a first half of the fantasy baseball season that you wish would go away? Owning Delgado, Peavy, Nolasco, Aramis, Volquez and Reyes got you down? Wanna draft Ben Zobrist in the first round? Simply want another team because your fantasy baseball obsession hasn’t pulled you sufficiently far enough away from your loved ones? Well, here’s your chance. Midseason Fantasy Baseball Leagues! So do you crave fame amongst eleven other random people you don’t really know? Or simply have a lot of time on your hands because you can make your Economic Stimulus Tax Rebate last longer than others? Then here’s your chance!
Unfortunately, ESPN doesn’t do midseason fantasy baseball leagues, so we’re not able to do a master standings (which was updated yesterday) for the midseason leagues. (We need to be able to access the leagues to do a master standings.) So the only real incentive to join one of these leagues is you’ll get some worthy competition. And, as someone who has dabbled in free leagues before, they suck with eleven other random doodes that you can’t talk trash to or rely on to be present. So I’ll open up the comments to you guys (and 3 girls) to form leagues here if you like. I suggest mixed leagues, 12 team, 5×5, 5 OFs, 9 pitchers, 20 game eligibility. I believe Yahoo’s midseason fantasy baseball leagues begin June 22nd, so you need to act fast!
If interested, please contact the commissioner — Josh — iamjoshlacey [at] gmail.com

@I’m Keith Hernandez: I meant would you do that trade is Sparkakis is on your bench?
Would you rather have Hamels or Haren going forward?
Thanks!
June 15th, 2009 at 11:53 am
@grey- pierre and haap or gill meche?
June 15th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
My Berkman and Cain for his Fat Albert, which side?
June 15th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
@Broadstreetbrawler: make that Berkman Cain and Alexei for Ervin Santana, Miggy Tejada and Albert
June 15th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
The league I’m currently playing in is boring and rude. I’d love to join a midseason league of Razzball commenters if one is available!
@spamcakes: Cool, now you need ten more guys. No idea what demand’s like so guess just have to wait and see. You or DrEasy should be the commissioner and set it up if you want or wait on someone else.
@DrEasy: See above comment.
@spamcakes: Are you saying you want in a midseason league? I’d prefer Hamels.
@martin: Meche
@Broadstreetbrawler: I’d take Pujols, but it’s close in the first one. I wouldn’t do the Alexei one.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
At this point is Scott Posednik better than Luke Scott. Im thinking about dropping Scott because Posedik had a great week and he is jus floating on waiver wires and nobody sees him
June 15th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
SAme here count me in for a Razzball league
June 15th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Since I missed my other Razzball league draft I would love to get in a midseason one so count me in.
@cruisinkc: @G: @DrEasy: @spamcakes: Cool! Someone needs to step up and be the commish on this.
June 15th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
I’d be all over a midseason league.
June 15th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Count me in as well.
When someone decides they want to commish, maybe we could have a main e-mail and get everyone on board.
June 15th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
can someone answer comment #9 thanks
June 15th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
I give Sparkakis/Wandy for Haren/Wood? Which side you like better.
@G: Luke Scott’s a power threat, Pods is a steals threat, depends what you need.
@steamer: @Rehban: Excellent.
*******I’ll add an email to the post for the commissioner once someone volunteers.********
June 15th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Johan + Aramis > Carl Pena + Greinke, in a keeper league?
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I’d take the Sparkakis side.
@p0rk burn: Yes, I’d take the Johan side.
*******I’ll add an email to the post for the commissioner once someone volunteers.********
June 15th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Count me in
June 15th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
word em up i want to get in a midseason league
******Think you only need 4 more, but there still needs to be someone to step up to be a commissioner. C’mon, you just need to set up the league.******
June 15th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Need a replacement while Franky Frank mills on the disgraceful list. Both Howell and C.J Wilson are available. Thoughts?
@vinko: Wilson
June 15th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
i can commish if need be if we’re talking Y! league (i’m a new poster not sure why it says i have 80 some odd posts…)
June 15th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Could Quentin fetch Youkillus or Zimmerman? 14 team keep 5 league.
June 15th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
I’m happy to commish.
@Josh L: Corrected the comment number. But now you have to post as Josh L or choose a username. If you’ll commish, that would be great. Do you mind me posting your email in the post so people can contact you?
@brad: Could get Zimm, doubt he gets Youuuuuk. I’d take either for Quentin though.
***Okay, who ever posts their email first will be the commissioner and I’ll put it in the post above.
June 15th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Thanks Grey. go ahead and post the email

@DrEasy: @wb1960: @G: @Rehban: @steamer: @spamcakes: @cruisinkc: Please email Josh, his email is in the post.
June 15th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Cool! This is exciting! Any chance one of Grey, Rudy or Baron will join?
June 15th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
@Grey- hey i’ll join a midseason league if they are any spots left! I should of acted faster.
June 15th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
anybody want to chime in on date and time of draft? i’m thinking saturday at some point. need to hear preferences people
June 15th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
@grey- email is gamebawmo@hotmail.com and i already use yahoo for my leagues
June 15th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Grey…not sure if you know him well but I am friends with Cory Humes from MVN – he’s going to join the league as well if you or Rudy wanted to get in on this
@Josh L: I believe I’m already in a league with Cory. I’m not joining this league. But if Rudy or Baron wants to, it’s up to them. I already have my hands filled.
@martin: Martin email Josh if you want in.
********Anybody who wants in should email Josh.*******
June 15th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
@Josh L:
Josh, I’m a long time reader, first time caller. I’d love to join the league and would bust my ass to kick yours. I sent you an email about 2 mins ago, can we make this happen?
A Saturday draft would be stellar.
June 15th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
@Josh L: I’d prefer Friday evening if possible.
June 15th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
@Grey: should i roll with elijah dukes, ian stewart, or dare i say it… re-pick up david “where did i put my HGH eyedrops?” ortiz for my UTIL spot?
My team is AVG and SB heavy, middle of the pack HR
Thanks
@TheGreatVeto: Roll with what you have.
********Anybody who wants in should email Josh. His email is in the post above.*******

June 15th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
martin – i already sent a league invite to your email. if anyone else wants to post their email i will send you an invitation. league is half full
June 15th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
actually scratch that. 4 of 12 are signed up, 2 invites out there twisting in the wind until those two join
June 15th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
i want to do a mid-season league badly……..
mrryancampbell@gmail.com
June 15th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
I posted this earlier as Longoria/Branyan/Joba for Halladay/Carpenter/Bourn with me getting the Longoria side and you said I should do it because I have enough pitching.
Would you do it if it was Longoria/Branyan/Joba for Halladay/Carp/Choo?
June 15th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
josh- just the heads up, i havnt got the email yet. However if the draft is this saturday, i sadly would not be able to attend.
June 15th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
I’d be down to play, I’m pretty successful in my leagues
birrman54 AT gmail dot com
@Josh L: Thanks for carrying the ball on this one!
@supermets: I’d still do it.
******Please email Josh if you want in. His email is at the bottom of the above post.********
June 15th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Josh…
I sent you an e-mail, but I’ll put it up here just in case. lukestatic22 (at) gmail dot com. Any draft time is fine. I’ll make time for it.
June 15th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Josh, I sent you an email for the league.
June 15th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Dunn and Shields for J-Roll? Which side?
@Sos: It’s fair, I’d take Dunn and Shields in a vacuum.
June 15th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
This deal is pending in my league: who wins?
Berkman/pierre/ mike gonzalez/ Billingsley
for
Markakis/Abreu/Hamels
I’m in first the guy right on my ass is getting the Billingsley side…. I dont like it.
Not saying its not fair but I dont think its a good deal.
@Tony Y: It’s fair, I’d take the Berkman side, barely.
June 15th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
I’m in. zach.kuhn at gmail. Make up for drafting every reach player in existence in the other league.
June 15th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I don’t understand the Gorditas Supreme Draft.
http://games.espn.go.com/flb/tools/draftrecap?leagueId=27012
June 15th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
@Chase: A little puzzling…
June 15th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
@Grey:
dunn and shields in a vacuum , or , prince albert in a can ?
not condoning any one political view , but , i could see you as having been an on-campus sds organizer , back in the woodstock era .
charismatic .
June 15th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
@Chase: @Steve: It was probably done offline and manually entered. Another possibility was that they adjusted the league setting which forces a redraft, and the LM had to manually enter them. OR Maybe Posada was the #1 pick……
June 15th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
who would you rather have for your 5th and 6th starters? pick two please out of lowe, smoltz and garza from here on out.
if it helps, our pitching cat: w, l, s, hld, k, gidp, era, whip
@Chase: Keith Hernandez hit the nail on the head. Anthony had the wrong league settings so he had to manually enter everyone’s team. It’s all good.
@big o: Ha!
@paulzone: Lowe, Garza
June 15th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
@Grey: a little surprising – i would have thought you’d put smoltz in there. now you got me thinking. would you sell high on haren and keep all 3 of them to go with bills, beckett and weaver?
June 15th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
man,indians bullpen stinks,but an rbi for the gamel
June 15th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
I really feel like I could go out there and do what Rafael Perez did tonight
June 15th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
@anon: i dont even know you and id bet you could,maybe not,youd probably throw to many strikes
June 15th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
@AL KOHOLIC:
I quit baseball when it was still tee-ball. That was literally the single worst appearance I’ve ever seen in my life
June 15th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
@anon: ha,i actually had perez on my team earlier this year when he had about the same results
June 15th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
from a life long tribe fan…… this is getting old…..
pure ugliness, bring up some triple A guys, they have to be better than this…. UNREAL
How is that pen two years removed from one of the best in MLB that bad? Half the guys are the same…. it disgusts me.
June 15th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
@grey and Anyone
what do you think of Carlos Quentin and CHOO for OSWALT/H. Street?
@paulzone: I’d sell Smoltz before his first start. Or Haren and keep Smoltz.
@Tony Y: I’d take the Oswalt side.
June 15th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
And does anyone else use yahoo and have the premium set up? I use to go to transaction trends where it showed who’s getting picked up the most, etc and the top guy would have like 1000’s of pickups… right now that barabaro can. from ATL is at the top with only like 600 pickups, most guys next on the list only have like 100 pickups or so? WHAT GIVES?
Usually it was like 10,000 or something then a guy would have 7,000 etc? weird?
June 15th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Hey grey… do you like theriot or scutaro for the rest of the year? is there a huge difference? we count K’s, BB, SB, TB, HR, RBI, AVG
June 15th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
did he break his wrist ?
June 15th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I need power and sbs. Do you think a trade of my Youkilis and Cain is okay for his Braun and Reynolds? I also have Josh Johnson, Verlander, Ubaldo, Oswalt, Lackey, Nolasco, Webb. I could also throw in McCutchen or Morgan.
also, is papelbon/rios fair for miggy cabrera?
June 15th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
this costas interview on mlb channel , with gibson and mccarver is wonderful .
costas ties it in with a previous interview , with kaline and horton …. and gets them to comment on THAT .
fantastic look at tigers/cards world series of ‘68 .
must see tv .
any word on tori hunter’s injury ?
i kinda got side-tracked .
June 15th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
edit *
tape it , hip .
June 15th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
who was it that wanted to punch out mccarver (the interviewer) ?
i forget .
@Tony Y: I don’t know, sorry.
@PJtres: I’d take Theriot, but little difference.
@big o: No idea on Torii. I’ll try to check out the Costas interview. Thanks for the tip.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
and , just for old time sake , i’d like to see a re-play of the dibble/sweet lou club-house clash .
it’s an old memory , but i think dibble “clocked” pinella .
June 15th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
@Grey: @big o: Although something of a baseball non-scholar myself, I’d always thought Gibson had a pretty good claim to being the greatest living pitcher ahead of Clemens.
Different pitcher-friendly era of course, but incredible peripherals and all those complete games etc. And was nails in the post-season.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
@ grey…in that case – i have hardy, theriot, and now scutaro (by trade).
a guy who needs SS approached me for theriot
do you think its a decent deal to trade theriot for baker?
or try to give theriot and something to get a wainwright or bedard?
@Steve: I think Maddux, Randy and Pedro have a place in that argument.
@PJtres: I’d take Baker there. But Theriot and something for Wainwright would be good, just not sure what the something is.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
@Grey: Quite so (as I think we’ve discussed previously).
Although Randy’s mullet has to count against him.
Sean-Rod!
June 15th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
What level of player would be a good target for Reyes?
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Depends what you need. 2nd tier outfielder or starter would be a good place to start.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
@Grey: Hamels or Johnson?
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Hamels
June 15th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
gotta love the person who dropped lackey in my money league….. hopefully Lackey can repeat against good lineups…..
June 15th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
@Grey:
I am digging that pick up.. He was my only starting bat tonight.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
Is Wainwright and Lackey(after tonight’s performance) enough to offer for Bay or Braun? Or is that insulting? Other team does need pitching.
@RT: Nice
@Robert: It’s not insulting.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
@Robert:
Not insulting at all. I personally wouldn’t give up a bat like that, but it isn’t insulting.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
@Grey: I’d completely forgotten I even had him!
June 15th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Thanks.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
@Grey:
angels 9-7 over the giants .
all 16 runs earned .
and NOT one BB issued .
gotta be some sort of record .
@big o: Gotta check with Elias Sports Bureau.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
@Grey: Elias is reporting that this is the first known instance of a blog comment about Bob Gibson drawing a non-reposnse from Hippo.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
@Steve: yeah i know. and its weird that the first place guy is the only one not picking the same position as everyone else in the same round
June 15th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
@Chase: I think Grey said above that there was some problem with the draft and that all the resuots had to be re-entered by hand.
Looks like it’s one position per round. Starting from catcher, by the looks
@Chase: See my comment #65.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
@Steve: The results had to be re-entered as well.
1800!!! Woot woot!
@Steve: Congrats, Steve. You only have five thousand and change more to catch me.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
@Grey: If I actually started commenting on fantasy baseball, who knows how many more I could get?
June 15th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
@Grey: @Steve: Original Recipe Managers>All others. Cust Kayin’
June 15th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
@Grey: Gamel or Giambi as your Corner Ifidel. 12-team, non-keeper…
June 15th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
@Steve: RCL question!!! haha
June 15th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
@Chase: You need to come here more often. It’s trade questions we try and keep out of here
@Steve: Gamel for interleague.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
@Steve: I used to be a regular here but then Grey and Rudy came up with the forums
June 15th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
@Chase: I alternate. I seem to be a blog guy just now.
June 15th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Sandoval and Fielder were my only hitters to go tonight. I have more production from those two than my entire team the last 3 days.
I heart them both. How about Prince with a major league leading 62 RBI and we’re not even close to the ASB. Wowzer.
June 15th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
@Colin: Yeah, I only had Braun and Fielder go today in one league. 11 rbis…
June 15th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
@Josh L: I just fired you some mail.I hope you still have space
June 16th, 2009 at 12:02 am
@Chase: LoL…don’t you just love it when you get production from 2-3 players on a light night as if your whole team was playing. Awesome!
June 16th, 2009 at 5:59 am
Razz Midseason Commenter League is now full! Thanks for those who emailed!
June 16th, 2009 at 6:35 am
Damn I missed out on the league. Is anyone else going to start one up?? Trobe781@yahoo.com If you are. Thanks
@Josh L: Great, thanks so much again for handling inquiries!
@timSTi: If we get 11 more, then you’re in the next one.
June 16th, 2009 at 7:53 am
@Grey: Ha ok Grey. Let’s go guys, 11 more!!
June 16th, 2009 at 8:06 am
@Grey: I might have to do the unthinkable and clue a friend or two into this site to see if they wanna get in on some midseason action *GASP* Am I really going to give away my secret source and thus help the site with more traffic? The nerve.
June 16th, 2009 at 9:31 am
@timSTi: I got an e-mail about an hour ago saying it was full ;-(
June 16th, 2009 at 9:32 am
@Doug Ault: Same here. Well there’s 2 of us so far! 10 more to go. Let’s go razzers.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
I’d be interested in joining league #2 if there is one. I won’t be able to draft on the weekend though, could (gasp!) autodraft I guess.
June 16th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
I’d love to see the draft results once they’re done. I’ve never really understood how strategy works in midyear leagues.
June 16th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Never got an email, so if you need a person for the second league, I’m in.
June 16th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
@zk: @zk: @Dingo: @Atomic: So far this is 4 people. I’ll start to organize it if everyone wants. Email me Trobe781@yahoo.com . I’ll just have to get with@Grey: or @Josh L: to see what the League Settings they’re running. @zk:
@timSTi: League settings are in the above post. Thanks for handling the 2nd one if you get the people.

I’m looking to join a midseason league. If there are any open slots please hit me up. pjsewall@gmail.com.
June 21st, 2009 at 9:35 am
I would like to join a mid season baseball league that includes first half stats for your starting team.
I am joining one at http://nationalfantasybaseballchampionship.com but don, t know if it will will up
