@royce!, Wow I’m so glad to be reading this! Of course I find people that have senses of humor in common with me on the Razzball forums! I have never understood the popularity of either of those shows! I’ve had so many arguments with family & friends about how terrible they are. Another one is the Big Bang Theory. How anybody can sit there and spend 5 minutes, let alone an entire 30 minute episode, watching that garbage is mind boggling to me. My top 5 sitcoms on TV right now: Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, It’s Always Sunny, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Parks & Rec…hurts to not be able to put The Office on this list anymore, would’ve been my #1 a few seasons back.

Hey Grey need some help w/ 7th (and 8th rd picks) of my Keeper league (keep 5 or 7 free)

12 Team, 5×5 (OBP instead of avg), weekly h2h 1-win
Start 9 bats, 4 SP/ 2RP
I’ve got
SS/3B Hanley
3B R Zimmerman
OF N Cruz
OF H Pence
SP Kershaw
SP Felix

I’m up w/ pick 83. Then the same guy has 84 & 85 and then I’m up at 86.
SP is drafted early in this league, and very thin. Best avail: CJ Wilson, Gio, Latos, D Hudson++ (and beyond)
1B is a waste land, might be time to take 1B Berkman and his nice OBP. Owner of #84/#85 only has Napoli and no other 1B. Best avail (Berkman, Cuddyer, Lind, Ike Davis…)
2B is an obvious need but I still like a decent chunk of the best avail (Utley, Kendrick–ugh obp, Zobrist, Weeks)

Should I go Berkman and then best avail 2B with the pick 3 spots later? I hate taking him in the 7th round of a keeper league but it gets ugly fast at 1B.

I was thinking more that the runs could climb as much as 20% which would put him around 120 and his RBI’s could be up to the 130 range (he had 118 last year).

I’m hearing that Robinson Cano is expected to hit 3rd in the Bronx this year. How much of a boost does that give his value? I would think his runs scored and RBI could be up by as much as 20%? Also, he didn’t really run much at all before, so I don’t really see that changing for better or worse with Tex & A-rod behind him.

The next 5 OFs after Bourn on his list are Hamilton, Grandy, Cutch, Bruce and Holliday. I encourage everyone in my RCL to follow Berry’s advice religiously.

@birrrdy!, well disciple I noted that the statement was ridiculous but i was trying to make a point. I actually debated writing that analogy because I knew someone would take it literally and challenge me on it. Yes, a homerun taken by itself gives you a run and an rbi and a steal just gives you a steal. Thanks…I got it now…unfortunately, the stats are tallied over the course of a season so we need to take all TOTAL stats into account, not an assessment of a single homerun. But thanks anyway…i’m sure Grey appreciates the defense. Maybe you can get a free shirt.

I couldn’t agree more. In a league with 8 keepers I just traded Bourn for Michael Young and a upgraded draft pick. I’m not a huge Young fan but he’s probably better than any 3B I could get after the 9th round of the draft.

Now the question is who do I keep as my last keeper? It’s coming down to B.J. Upton or Alex Gordon. J-Up is my first outfielder, OPS is an extra offensive category. I could also keep them both and not keep Utley, but leaning towards one or the other at this point.

P.S. Here is Keri’s article. Some good stuff, but I don’t agree with many things. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but it seems he should stick to writing about real baseball.

@Lance Berkman, The 100 HR comment is just silliness, and also a bad comparison. What you’re missing is home runs give you an edge in 3 categories. 100 HRs also equals 100 extra runs scored, and probably about 200 RBIs. Steals are just steals. Grey is not fascinated with the long ball, he just understands fantasy baseball, and simple math.

@Grey: Out of curiosity, why did you decide to take Lincecum in the 3rd round? I was a bit surprised by that and figured it was just because you locked 1B/3B so solidly, that you figured you would have an easier time filling out your offense than normal, so you took an ace with consistency early.

Then you also took another pitcher earlier than you normally would recommend. Did you and Rudy talk before the draft about making your pitching staff a little more secure than usual?

I am entering a 14 team league as one of 2 expansion teams, 4 player keeper league. So the original 12 teams get to keep 4 players each. So, of whats left, I get the 1st, 3rd, 5th and picks.
This is the player pool left that I am interested in. Could you rank the best 8 players for a keeper league going forward out of this pool(IE how you think this expansion draft should go)? Thanks a lot!! Draft starts tomorrow AM.

@Grey: I went through this thread looking for this topic to comment on, solely because of how crazy I thought Keri’s pick was. Dunno if you read him, but I actually really like his writing about real baseball. He actually commented on it in a post today about how he’d been playing FBB since 1991 and took Bourn in that spot to lock away steals for the rest of the draft…uhhh, whatever, I guess.

His team actually ended up not being terrible, but looking at that draft, and how much better his team could’ve been if he’d taken someone else there, is a perfect example in favor of your entire point with the Bourn post.

Oh, and when you say you took Lingo and AGon with 1/2, you make it seem as if Lingo was first pick. It was just a little funny because that would’ve actually been more believable, getting Lingo where you got him was awesome. I would take that as my corner spots every day of the week and thrice on Sunday, you must have literally been writhing in your seat hoping he would stay on the board that last pick or two before you took him.
