grey h2h playoffs started this week and gio gonzalez just blew up my pitchings lines. i’ve got a 30 era in a deep league my ratios suck. i was looking at probables and found only padilla returning from injury. do you think hes worth it vs the mariners or will he only be detrimental. im looking to pickup a win and some k’s. i know hell improve my era, but more earned runs wont help. luckily mclouth is playing but the quentin injury killed me too… what do you think?

Whats the update on Melvin Mora. WHen is his approximate return. I dont feel like waiting for him should I just drop him right now and get Votto who hit another home run tonight? Good move to drop mora or will he be valuable later on?

Good to see McLouth walked it off or rubbed some dirt in it, whatever you do for a an eye injury. I’d say he rubbed dirt in it but I can’t talk too much trash, he has the only hit for my team so far tonight. Gotta love the 1/15 start to my playoffs. Looks like I’m going to have to make this happen with my rotation.

Saves are still quasi-important with a possible 2/11 point swing up and a zero point swing down. And my 30 day trend is 21 to 13/8 over the guys I’m trailing so I could/should make up the 2/4 save gap.

Another good benching of Volquez tonight. I mean 10 K’s in 5 IP is great but K’s are sewn up and I can’t afford his WHIP/ERA anchor.

He could be a drop if I went to the “many good MR” strategy of WHIP dropping but someone could improve their team with him in an 11 team league, methinks.

Again, the WHIP battle is staggering:
1.26, 1.28, 1.29 (me), 1.29, 1.30, 1.30, 1.30, 1.30 (2nd place by 1.5 points guy who had the guts to start Lester tonight).

@Grey: My bench is pretty clogged, as you know. Is he almost droppable? Hawpe is my starting RF and I have Ethier who is also RF eligible. I'm really only keeping him to stop someone else getting hold of him and to fill in on short-schedule days.

@Steve: Yeah, very disappointing season. 4 HRs and 1 steal in the 2nd half. He just never turned it on. He's only 24 and he's still hitting for average, so I'll probably get excited about him again this winter (or summer for you). EDIT: Missing an E, cuz.

I wasn’t being picky…I thought maybe I missed something, ala BJ Upton, because I could use some way to find Konerko some playing time.

Grey et al., like the poster above who is in a massive duel for wins, it appears my entire league is going to come down to WHIP. I’m 1.5 points ahead overall and 1.29 to 1.30 (2nd place guy) for WHIP but I’m counting a whopping 5 spots better because of people in that 1.29-1.3 range.

Basically, if I can get my 1.29 down to 1.28 and solidify the 10 points a #2 in WHIP would get me I could probably win.

For the past month I’ve been playing Peavy and Oswalt and sitting all my other starters (Parra, Lilly, Volquez) unless there is a really good matchup. I’ve been doing this to pare down my IP overage (now +18) but the side benefit is that my WHIP has been 1.13 for the past 30 days. I’m starting 3 RP’s (of my 5) every night based on matchups.

Options:
1. Keep on keepin on.
2. Keep on with the SP’s but sit Rodney, BJ Ryan or Ayala (bad pitchers on good teams) for Putz and Frankie-chair-thrower (good pitchers on bad teams)
3. Do something with kick-ass middle relievers. I’m not sure what tho, which is why I’m asking the question. There is also 6 of us between 77 and 81 wins so…

@Grey: You might be right. Garza is probably a safer bet, but his inconsistency is a problem that I don’t see going away next year. I think if Gallardo is healthy (big caveat emptor) he’ll be more consistent and rack up more strikeouts than Garza. But as you said, the innings thing might hold Gallardo back. It’s a tough call.

Is there going to be a Razzball league again next year? I’d love to join.

@BVV: Yeah, I think Gallardo is very underrated. He was dominant this year before he got hurt. I’ll reach for him again next year, ahead of Buchholz, Price, Kershaw, and Garza.
