It seems like every year around this time I make Mark Teixeira a prime breakout candidate. Why can’t he hit in April? Does he need mittens? His last three Aprils have produced a .245 average and 9 homers in 261 ABs. No other month is close to that bad. Last year, he got it going in May. The year before he waited until June. At some point, he’s always turns on the heat. His park is terrific, his lineup equally so. He’s always healthy, his HR/FB and BABIP are both low for him. Yadda3. There’s no reason to think there won’t be a turn around, bright eyes. PABST stands for Post All-Star Break Stats Teixeira. As in, drink it up, cause that’s all you’re getting, you lush. Anyway, here’s some more players to buy and sell this week in fantasy baseball:
BUY
Luke Scott – Great Scott? Hmm… Seems to be too much hyperbole. How about Like Luke? Yeah, that works better even if it’s not quite as exciting. You won’t want Luke Scott for longer than another week or two. He is this week’s random outfielder that can give you power for a few days/week.
Nate McLouth – Pretend this blurb is written in off-white, since this is a very faint Buy.
Jonny Gomes – Jonny Bat could be a longer term pickup than Luke Scott, but probably not by much. Whatever though, he’s hitting .500 over the last week with 2 homers.
Brennan Boesch – Doesn’t he sound like a proprietor of a German pub? Maybe he’s married to St. Pauli’s Girl. Either hoo, he has an opening for everyday playing time and he’s hitting. Had solid power in the minors. Don’t sleep on Boesch! (Because it’ll probably be uncomfortable. Seriously, man, get a cot.)
Corey Hart – One of the few hitters on this list that could have value for longer than a few weeks. If Hart gets back to the 20/20 guy he was not that long ago, he’s ownable everywhere.
Corey Patterson – Sticking with the Corey theme, Patterson is the leadoff hitter and… Yeah, it’s hard for me to muster too much enthusiasm for him. Steals are a bit all I’d expect, so SAGNOF on that.
Jason Donald – I wonder if he’s related to Donald Faison… Eh, probably not. Donald won’t wow you with anything unless he gets hot. He could stay at the top of the order though, so you might get Runs. Then again, it’s the Indians. Yeah, this is a lukewarm Buy.
Francisco Cervelli – The Great Gazoo! If you don’t know what that reference is referring to, you really gotta see this guy at bat. Holy crap, he’s the splitting image. Or is it spitting image? That always trips me up. Cervelli will give you average while he’s hitting. May not last for long, but it only needs to last for another month while Posada’s foot heals.
Freddy Sanchez – Lord knows the Giants equipment manager is rooting for him so the work he did on the initials on Jonathan Sanchez’s jersey wasn’t for nothing. That’s-a-my best jay period ever! Yes, the Giants equipment manager is an Old World Italian. Sanchez can give you average, it’s a’ight.
Ian Kennedy – On April 9th, in the 2nd Buy/Sell of the season, I told you to buy Kennedy. He’s now up to 23% owned in ESPN. Even assuming 60% of ESPN leagues are already abandoned, that’s poor. Give me your password and I’ll pickup Kennedy for you.
Kris Medlen – You’ve heard me tout him before, I don’t want your ears to bleed.
Chris Perez – We ain’t done with you yet, Mullet Man.
Aaron Heilman – I don’t think Heilman’s really that good, but, as of right now, he might be the tallest midget in the pen.
Carlos Villanueva – SAGNOF! Todd Coffey, same shizz, different player. I even grabbed LaTroy Hawkins in one league to stash on my DL, but he is a Cuddle Boy, so his rosterable time may be limited because he could desTroy your ratios.
SELL
Aroldis Chapman – So far in Triple-A, he’s sporting a 1.63 WHIP, walking guys and now has a blister. He’s only 22 and as I said in the comments the other day, “I heard (Aroldis) compared to Randy Johnson and that seems apt. It’s both a compliment and an insult. As we learned last week, Johnson was wild as any turkey ever was.” And that’s me cutting and pasting me! I wouldn’t drop Aroldis, but I would look at trading him, since sources are now saying he may not come up in June. Must be important otherwise why would sources bother talking about him? There’s so many other things sources could talk about like Sandra Bullock’s divorce, the BP oil spill, the upcoming Biggest Loser finale… Speaking of which, I have a theory about The Biggest Loser. Because it doesn’t work into the inspiration story the producers are trying to tell, they never mention the obscene amounts of sex going on in the house. Think about it, for so long these women didn’t want anyone to see how they looked and God forbid anyone were to touch them. Now, they’re feeling sexy, confident and horny. I lost 7 pounds this week, let’s have an orgy on the rowing machine! It’s like Hedonism for fat people.
Jose Bautista – He’s hitting .242 with 12 homers. So let’s be realistic, do you think he’ll continue to hit homers at a 20% HR/FB clip and surpass his previous career high in homers by, say, 25? Or do you think he’ll go homeless man cold and be droppable in another month? I usually say don’t trade for closers, but I’d take just about any closer in a trade for Bautista.
Alex Gonzalez – Hey, I’m like a housewife because I’m hating on the BJ’s. Honestly, not sure what you can even get for this poor man’s A-Gon, but he hit .289 in April and .240 so far in May. In April, he hit 7 homers; in May, he hit 3. May is way more in line with what you should expect going forward.
Justin Morneau – I know, he’s the cornerstone of your offense and you kinda want to strangle me now that I’ve said Morneau is a sell. WHY DO YOU MAKE ME CRY, GREY?! Sorry, Mr. Caps, it’s not my intention. OH, NO WORRIES THEN. Morneau’s BABIP is only surpassed by Kearns and Austin Jackson. And you should know how I feel about those two schmohawks. Morneau’s HR/FB is pretty far above his career norm too. Then you throw in Morneau’s wonky back and you have a recipe for a huge fall in value sometime soon. May not be tomorrow, may not be next week, but change will come, nephew. I wouldn’t sell Morneau for a bag of Funyuns, but I’d listen to offers.

Trade Morneau, Javy Vazquez, Buchholz for Pablo and Tommy Hanson?
@Ryan: It’s fair, but Buchholz gives me pause in making the deal.
@Grey – Would you rank Medlen ahead of Clayton Richard?
would you cut bait with Quentin to pick up raul ibanez who just hit waivers?
@Grey Also have Ubaldo, Johnny Sanchez, Price, Hamels, Slowey, Holland, and Floyd. Pitching depth sway one way or another?
@Grey: ur loving bucholznuts arent you grey?
@Grey: You’re probably thinking of “The Biggest Loser with Ron Jeremy” on Spice.
On Morneau, my Spidey sense has been tingling for a while…I own him on two teams and I KNOW he isn’t a .360 hitter and I KNOW that for the last few games every time he puts a bat on the ball it’s a hit AND he’s been missing A LOT…thanks for confirming my ulcer.
@Grey: I need steals and saves… I am faring well in the HR/RBI dept…
Do I dare offer Hanley and A. Chapman for Rollins and Broxton? Note…keeper league and I got Chapman for $1..if I chose to keep I would pay $2 for him next year and $4 the next.
Thanks…
@Howie: not even close to enough for hanley, i auto accept that, especially with Rollins fresh back off the DL. Not even close.
@William: Ricard (at home), Medlen, Richard (away)…
@ABell: Yup
@Ryan: You have more than enough pitching, I’d want Morneau there.
@Tony: I do like him. Someone read what I wrote yesterday and offered me him for Capps and I had to turn him down.
@crews: Ah, yes. Yup re: Morneau.
@Howie: I’d want Hanley there.
The only problem I see with your post is that I would deal anyone short of big Albert for a bag of Funyuns.
@Grey We must on the same wavelength, I traded Morneau for Tex the other day! tks
@Howie: I’d rather have Hanley’s side. Hanley alone is good for that deal.
Grey, if I felt good about my pitching would you trade Hamels for Kendry Morales?
@Pat: Ha
@Howard: Nice!
@Buddo Chezuski: Sure
Grey- Medlen is tempting, but I’d have to drop Olsen or Harang for him. 12 tm H2H dynasty points league. Thanks!
In a 16 Teamer, H2H – do you like Holland or Medlen better for the long term?
Are people playing ol’ Brad OneCent versus the Angels in the Lou tonight? I’m not a fan of playing NL pitchers against AL teams but I am a fan of wins, low ERAs, curling up with a good book, and long walks on the beach.
@Grey: Hey, I got boned by Asdrubal and I’m trying to get Stephen Drew to replace him. I know he’s hot and it’s probably not a great time to buy, but what would be a fair trade offer among these pitchers for drew: Cueto, Liriano, Nolasco, Hamels, Wade Davis, Cecil…
How do you feel about Jeff Francis?? Pickupable?
@Grey: I just got a blockbuster trade proposed to me. Im in an 11 team 5 keeper roto league. A few weeks ago i traded a lot for Hanley. Now a kid just sent me this offer.
He Gets:
Casey Mcghee
Carlos Gonzalez
Stephen Strasburg
Clayton Kershaw
I Get:
Albert Pujols
Jose Guillen
Nick Swisher
Tim Hudson
Outside of Pujols he isn’t offering anything. I would propbably drop most of those guys. I was thinking of switching out Strasburg for Chapman. But then My 5 keepers are more crowded. Hanley and Pujols are locks. Then i have Heyward, Weiters, THanson, Strasburg, Votto and Kinsler. I kinda want to send him Votto instead of CGonz. And if i give up Mcghee i have a huge hole at thrid to be filled by Jose Lopez. I think i have to turn this offer down but the door is open for a counter offer. Its just sooo tempting to lock up Pujols and Hanley for the next 5 years.
I think im sending this counter offer.
Chapman, Kershaw, Votto for Pujols and Garland.
Any thoughts? (I would be getting Pujols)
There’s too many SAGNOFs on waivers (Villanueva, Chris Perez) and not enough room on my roster. Doh!
Cervelli-Gazoo: separated at birth. http://bit.ly/a6wJdi
Grey, I know you can’t list everyone, but what’s your take on Ty Wigginton? Here’s Wiggy: http://tinyurl.com/l8p8y2
Is he a buy? dude’s playing out of his mind. I thought he’d let up by now.
@Chomp Samba:
Ha!!!
I was offered Jimmy Rollins for Kelly Johnson and Phill Hughes. Do I make the deal?
@Matt: i’d want Rollins
Would you trade Prince and Austin Jackson for Braun?
I’ve got plenty of 1B with Prince, Votto, Reynolds and Ike Davis.
I heart Ryan Braun.
Giving up too much? I’d slot Corey Patterson into the OF while waiting for Grandy to come off the DL.
@Grey – Rank ‘em
Scott Olsen, Clayton Richard, Kris Medlen
In a H2H league, please rank:
JD Drew, Garrett Jones, McLouth, Hart
We count R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG. . . . would be benching Damon and his 5 gm sched next week.
Ok, so I offered D. Lee/Pence for Adrian Gonzalez, and it was countered with Carlos Pena for Garza.
I would be trading away Garza.
10 team roto… 5×5. My SP consists of Garza, Weaver, Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, Jaime Garcia, Kershaw and Happ (DL)
Thoughts?
@Grey: Corey Hart’s a big IF (both capped). I had him, dropped him, probably grab him again, unless Torres impresses me. Scott’s still available but how long will his hotness last? Last year he went back to being ‘meh’ as the calender turned to June.
Cervelli’s impresses me a lot. Solid hitter and enough speed to score from 2nd.
what’s the highest price you guys would pay for beckett right now? is ludwick too high?
@Grey: I’m currently rostering Gomes + Hart. If I have a need for SAGNOF should I drop either for Patterson?
@dj: to think that’s even a question is cringe worthy. I think I might move ludwick for becks if my hitting was all good and I needed an arm.
Might be too much risk to stomach though.
Trying to observe your pick a caycher and leave’em rule, but I can’t help but feeling yawnstipated by Bengie Molina’s solid average and lack of anything else. Then, the Great Gazoo landed (funny shot ChompSamba). Would picking him up make me a dum-dum? If so howabout Max Ram (starting Fri. & Saturday) for upside, or Doumit because I own no other Pirates? Thanks.
Morneau-Gonzalez for Tulo and Pablo or
Morneau-Gonzalez for Teixiera and Pedroia?
Dave bush going against minnesota tonight? Start or sit in a 16 team roto? Ive got him riding pine right now due to the brewers ineptitudes lately but I feel like this is going to be a gem and my gut isnt to bad when it comes the my hometown team. Though is could be an absolute shellacking which I will not be fond of one bit.
@3FingersBrown:
haha. yeah unfortunately my pitching is in shambles. i already have longoria, braun, miggy and werth. so my pitching #1-2 is basically lester and cueto.
How will Nolasco and his decreased velocity fair tonight against an AL team (admittedly, it’s only the White Sox)?
@dj: I’d take a shot at him. My pitching’s in similar shape and I could use a reliable SP. Beckett’s owner’s been trying to pawn him off on me all year, but I haven’t bitten.
I had a three way deal going that would send him Jeter. Beckett would be shipped for Bailey and Gardner and I would get Gardner and Bartlett.
Deal fell through when Bailey’s owner lost Lidge to the DL.
@Grey: His Howard and Johnson (Josh) for my Pujols? Yikes, that sounded dirty.
12 team, roto 10×10.
Would you drop Liriano for either Medlen or Ely?
Rank these middling outfielders please: J.D. Drew, Colby Rasmus, Corey Hart, Krispie Young
@TonyCino: No
@genghis chone: Rasmus, Hart, Young, Drew
@DrEasy: I’m starting him. *fingers crossed*
Hey Guys What are your collective thoughts on this? I have Granderson coming off the DL in about a week or so. Who would you drop? Heyward, Hamilton, Bruce, or Guerrero? My other OF is Holliday who I won’t be dropping. Decisions, decisions.
@TonyCino:
yeah, no way
@dj: I’d definitely target Beckett in a keeper. In a re-draft, I’d still probably swap Ludwick for Beckett, depending on what’s available for replacement.
Guys, I’m at the doctor… Don’t worry, I’m day-to-day, but you guys need to help out each for a couple of hours.
@Grey: you don’t look sick.
Buster Olney just tweeted that it did not look promising watching Grey type a few practice blogs after his visit with Dr. Freeze. I’d expect a D/L trip. Immediate pickups are Rudy & Doc in that order.
@timSTi: BLOGNOF!
*Moon River
@Professor Chaos: Depends on the format. I would rather have Pujols in Roto. In H2H, I’d take the Howard side, just to have Howard during your playoffs.
@Bill Lumbergh: Yeaaaa I think I’m gonna have to go ahead and agree with you on that. Thanks for the input
@Grey: At least you’re not minute to minute
What are people’s feelings on starting Haren at Toronto tonight? I’m thinking I’ll sit him. He hasn’t been sharp and I’m over innings anyways.
@chris: Must be a shallow league. I’d lose Vlad.
@NukeLaDouche: He’s actually been K’ing more guys per 9. His BABIP is abnormally high as is his HR rate. Gotta dance with the girl you brought to the party.
If he’s my ace, I’m throwing him FWIW. Toronto can hit HR and/or K a lot, so he could get bombed or throw a gem. That’s why I don’t bet baseball.
Bautista and Gonzalez have carnied my team while Asdrubral and Pablo took a dump. Cant complain about the last few week. If I can keep it going till Pablo turns it around, I should be golden. Might be stuck with Gonzalez though as the SS market is thin
@Mr2Bits: I feel like my team’s been carnied. Still can’t believe I drafted Floyd and Zambrano. Both are gone thankfully but the memories hurt.
@Grey: McLouth for Ibanez? Any advantage here?
But I *like* FunYuns!
Which is weird, because I can’t think of a more chemically-cloaked food in existence (what was this… a potato? An onion? A tortata?). And I like to think I eat healthy (for example, unlike some of my friends, I haven’t even deigned to try the new KFC “Double Down” heart attack sandwich).
Which brings us to “The Biggest Loser”, a show I don’t watch because fat people disgust me*. I know, I know… glandular problem. It’s not you, it’s me. Of course there’s a lot more of you than there is of me, so proportionally-thinking, it really should be more you than me. But I digress.
So then Grey goes and shocks my world with images of an entire house full of fat people frolicking in their birthday suits… well, all I can say is: better get that foundation inspected after they leave.
And to close this out with baseball, I just dropped Bedard the Retard, who I’ve been holding since the draft, for Medlen “in your bizness”. Just got tired of waiting for Bedard to decide if he wants to make the effort to pitch at all this year and wanted a bench spot open so I could sit Wade Davis against those resurgent BoSox Monday.
@Howie Id go with Ibanez because he’s in the Phils lineup
10 Team H2H, which side wins?
ARod, B. Phillips, R. Davis, J. Vazquez
Utley, Crawford, Beckett
^ Make that 10 team roto. I’m losing track.
Corey Hart, Boesch or Smoak for the rest of the season?
@Anybody, due to Grey’s day-to-day-ness: 8 Team H2H, just swung a deal of Span/AJ for Wright, then picked up Kennedy out of the FA pool to replace AJ. Now have a plethora of 3B eligible guys (Longo, Wright, MMD). Would anyone drop MMD for JD, Scott, Markakis?
@LMack: Seems pretty even but I would want the Utley Crawford side.
is it time to sell rasmus? or do you think he’ll bounce back
@chris: None of the above. If you don’t have room on your bench, then try to trade one of your OFs to meet a need elsewhere on your team. I doubt you’d get much for Bruce, but it’s worth trying to sell high on Vlad, Heyward, or even Hamilton.
@JoeC: Nice rant! I just ate my first Double Down yesterday evening. I then did an intense, hour-long workout and still felt like a disgusting pig for the next few hours.
like chuck klosterman said, why all the hate on the double down? it’s just a chicken sandwich without the bread
@Wilsonian: Not this second, but I’d keep an eye on Markakis. Depends on what your team needs are.
@dj: What are you expecting from him? 25/7/17/4 .279/.386/.541 looks pretty good to me.
FYI: Wieters is out of the lineup tonight after fouling a ball off of his knee yesterday. I knew something was fishy. I didn’t realize gods had knees.
@3FingersBrown: i’m not expecting too much. just hoping his hot start wasn’t all he plans to do on the year (ie, should i be ditching him a la luke scott, et al. for another 1 month wonder).
don’t get me wrong, i love rasmus, but i’m not sure what my expectations are, or should be for that matter.
@Grey: I’m thinking about this trade offer: Me giving up Michael Young and Ellsbury for Quentin, Krispie Young and Kendry Morales. I would be left with Troy Glaus at third. Lemme know the low down.
@dj: Well he’s ahead of the pace of preseason projections:
http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9893&position=OF
I would hold. The whole Card lineup is slumping.
@Grey: I hope everything is alright.
To correct my Beckham situation I’m offering my 4th OF Boesch for Brian Roberts, who will be back mid-June. This buys me time to see if Beckham turns it around and even if he does it’s still a win. Good idea?
@dj: Rasmus is the ultimate situational play in my opinion. His day/night, home/away, left/right splits are ridiculous. Start him on the road vs. a righty at night and you’re set. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Ervin Santana and Colby Rasmus for Ian Kennedy and Curtis Granderson
GET WELL SOON GREY!!
anyone starting arroyo to night
im in a 20 teamer
@barker: That sounds like a good start as long as the bullpen doesn’t implode again.
thank you i thought so as well
Pick a side.
Vlad/Oswalt or Ryan Howard
18 Team League.
@barker:
Yes, but in an 18 Teamer
A guy in my league is looking for steals. I could really use an upgrade over Alexei at MI. My BJ Upton for his Pedroia? BJ is leading MLB with 5 steals in the past week…with only 7 hits. If he could ever get on base.
He’s also got some great SP’s I might try and target. Please rank Santana, Garza, Kershaw, Cliff Lee, Hughes.
Trying to set my roster for today and am seeking advice: should I start Carlos Pena today against Brett Myers of the Astros? I know Pena’s BA has been horrid for the last month, but after seeing what he did last night I am wondering if he might be breaking out of his slump a little. Even if only for a few games.
I’ve been benching him for a while so he doesn’t bring down my team BA, but if he is getting hot for a run, I want to capture it. So, any advice on starting him tonight? Thanks
12 team 5×5 roto. I have Pujols at 1B, Morneau at Util.
SPs are Lester, Nolasco, Hamels, Oswalt, Peavy, Cueto.
Just got offered Tex and Scott Baker for my Morneau and Hamels.
Sounds like a no brainer, esp after Grey’s post today on Tex/Morneau. Wanted to run it by the cool Razzkids, just in case I’m missing something here.???
@Kazmere:
Definitely a no brianer
@Allan K: I like the Grandy side
@Kazmere: I like the Tex/Baker side.
@knighttown: Why would anyone trade Pedroia for B.J.? BJ doesn’t hit.
@artie: Howard. He’s the best player here. The Vlad/Roy side is full of injury risk and Vlad won’t keep up his torrid pace.
@Professor Chaos: Sit him vs. lefties until he proves he can hit ‘em. It’s not like Scott hits lefties so well either.
Rasmus has upside, he’s only 24. He’ll also have something to play for in September.
@timSTi: That’s hilarious!
@zombie: Ha!
@Professor Chaos: Ha!
@Allan K: Grandy side.
@Howie: Ibanez
@JoeC: That’s an all-time great comment.
@LMack: Utley side.
@Matt: Hart for 20/20, Smoak for power upside.
@dj: I think he’ll be an okay 5th OF.
@3FingersBrown: Thanks for the heads up!
@chiasports: Thanks!
@artie: Howard
@knighttown: Garza, Kershaw, Johan, Lee… I’d take Pedroia there.
@ViagraFalls: I’d start him. Did you start McGehee and Hunter the other day?
@Kazmere: Go for it.
******If I missed anyone’s, just repost and I’ll answer.****
@artie: @3FingersBrown: @Grey: Thanks, guys! Grey, glad you had that rash looked at. I’ll put an extra shot of penicillin in your daquiri.
@Kazmere: Ha!
@Grey: I’m thinking about this trade offer: Me giving up Michael Young and Ellsbury for Quentin, Krispie Young and Kendry Morales. I would be left with Troy Glaus at third. Lemme know the low down.
Bah Hamels you are so annoying.
@Grey: @Grey: I just got a blockbuster trade proposed to me. Im in an 11 team 5 keeper roto league. A few weeks ago i traded a lot for Hanley. Now a kid just sent me this offer.
He Gets:
Casey Mcghee
Carlos Gonzalez

Its just sooo tempting to lock up Pujols and Hanley for the next 5 years.
i sent this counter offer.
Chapman, Kershaw, Votto for Pujols and Garland.
Any thoughts? (I would be getting Pujols)
@Tom Emanski: To correct my Beckham situation I’m offering my 4th OF Boesch for Brian Roberts, who will be back mid-June. This buys me time to see if Beckham turns it around and even if he does it’s still a win. Good idea?
Hey how that PacMan?!?! Could this be the start of something good???
@Rick Dempsey: I don’t like it for you.
@Harry Plopper: I wouldn’t do the 2nd offer that you sent. Or the first one. Kershaw and Votto and Chapman in a keeper is too much. Pull it back.
@tHe ShiT: No way, he did something?
@Grey: 2 run tater in the 1st inn!!!
@Harry Plopper:
Yeah thats way too much. Pujols isnt a kid anymore either. Not sure Votto won’t be close to as valuable over the next 5 seasons, let alone adding Kershaw (Samdy Koufax Jr).
It’s not even fair how good Heyward is. And worse, how he went 14th in that draft.
i would just like to thank all of you guys who told told me to take borbon over heyward this preseason. thanks guys!
@Grey: But i have some pretty good keepers already. I can’t see myself keeping Kershaw or Chapman over Weiters, Hanson, Strasburg or Kinsler. What about a Votto and Chapman deal? I don’t think he’d accept that tho.
Another quick Q. Someone in my league just dropped Chone Figgins. Should i drop Jose Lopez for him? I kinda need steals and either guy will just ride my bench until they get hot.
Thanks
@tHe ShiT: Did you see it though or you going by the box score?
@Harry Plopper: Yeah, but that doesn’t mean make the other guy better going forward. I’d lose Lopez for Figgy.
@Grey: Sorry Grey just a box score observation
– A. Jones homered to deep center, L. Scott scored
@tHe ShiT: Okay, hopefully Jones didn’t have someone from his family hack ESPN’s site.
@Grey: LoL or Yahoo’s! The fact that it was a CF shot shows he’s driving the ball… Who do u like more 4 the rest of the season, Bruce or PacMan?
@tHe ShiT: Bruce
@Grey:
BTW, feel free to goad Markakis, he looks like a tough one, not like Quentin. 2 HR’s is not cutting it, even if he’s reliable otherwise.
@Grey: I see what your saying. I pulled that offer and sent him a Konerko, CJ Wilson and Chapman offer. Hes in last place so i think hes trying to get some pieces for next year. After he probably rejects this one ill up the offer with either Billy Butler or Brian Matusz.
Consider Lopez dropped.
Thanks
@Grey: Sweet the mgr I offered PacMan/Gallardo 4 Lester/Bruce hasnt responded yet… he takes 4ever to make a decision…
@Elijah: Yeah, Markakis is a disappointment. I’m afraid he’s taking the Garrett Atkins homer career path.
It says on yahoo that PacMan came out of the game…anybody know why..he get hurt?
If you were wondering what Scott Stapp former lead singer and now back to lead singer of Creed is doing lately… here you go…
http://deadspin.com/5517857/scott-stapp-ruins-baseball
2 steals today for the blazing fast Votto.
Carlos Gomez is back and Alcides goes back down the lineup. Because Gomez is so much better than Alcides…
@danimal35: He sold his soul for that homer? Not sure…
@danimal35: Ive been trying to figure that out also…
@tony b.: Ha!
@tHe ShiT: @Grey: I think it had sumthin 2 do with Markakis, he batted last in that top of 4th inn n then box score shows Montanez in LF…
Oops i meant @danimal35: on that last post…
i have markakke in an obp league. he’s a disappointment to say the least. unfortunately, his worth is basically zero at this point, but with a .410 obp, at least he’s not hurting me.
I’m all confused, disregard my comments, im an idiot…
@Grey: Good to have you back, hope everything’s a-ok.
My opponent has me beat in SB now, but the other counting numbers are close. Drop Torres for Hart or Scott? I like Scott’s corner flex but I know he’ll cool off by next week. I could use Hart’s limited speed.
anybody watching Marlins game?
How’s Nolasco’s velocity?
@tHe ShiT: then he leaves with cramps
@3FingersBrown: I’m dizzy and I just gave up 8 runs. Grab Scott.
@Donnie Baseball: He looked okay, but I’m been switching around.
No specific needs, 12 team roto, fill-in for Posada.
Cervelli or Napoli (who just hit a 2-run donk off Penny)?
Wouldn’t you know Jones gets hurt right after finally showing some life.
They’re saying only leg cramps though.
Leave it up to the Mets to get Vazquez going. Ugh!
@Kazmere: Napoli
@Donnie Baseball: Ha, figures.
@mauledbypandas: Yup
@Donnie Baseball: mlb gameday is showing 93-94
@Donnie Baseball: Drink some water and eat a banana PacMan!!!! Really?! Pro athletes with leg cramps in baseball in May?
@danimal35: Ha!
@Grey:
@dj:
With Ethier nursing his pinkie, Markakis became the de facto #1 OF and his dissapointment became more acute. On the bright side, there have been a lot worse busts (*cough*, Grady, Beckham etc)l; at least Markakis can hold down his spot, even if its more at #4 OF production. I was trying to fill out my OF with less expensive but bust-resistant left handed line drive hitters. These guys are pretty consistent year to year, some things in baseball don’t change. The only problem is that type of player tends to have wonky HR totals from year to year, not very consistent there. In any case, there have been a lot worse stories and Markakis could still end up with 18-20 HR’s, lotta season left.
well Dave Bush recieved the death penalty in lashings tonight giving up 7 earned over 1/3 inning. WOW my ERA would have never recovered. Ubaldo Jimenez won’t get that all year. 1 OUT!!!!!!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?
@Elijah: Yeah, I think Markakis will get 20 and he’s been healthy in his career.
@Trevor: That’s nice for my Razzball team.
***BTW, the Razzball standings were updated yesterday.
Of course Hamels throws a gem now that I benched him vs Boston…
@Trevor:
He shoulda gotten himself kicked out when he had the chance. They were about to toss him for arguing balls and strikes after Cuddyer walked in the 1st run.
thankfully i already have braun, werth and rasmus/ludwick at of, so i can afford to wait on markakke’s nothing-but-obp stats for a little while.
@dj:
Not to apologize for him, but the generally poor play of the O’s offense and complete lack of a leadoff hitter isn’t helping Nick any.If he were on the Yankees, Im sure he’d have plenty of runs and RBI’s.
@Grey: Should’ve pulled a John Maine and soft tossed for the day off!
Done. McGehee’s MI lets me bench Alcedes and play Scott.
How’s this for a stepsister gangbang? I have 4 Yanks against Los Mets and Hamels going. My opponent, a Yank fan, picked up Tak for the spot start.
Man, Jose Reyes really sucks now.
@Grey:
Speaking of the OF, my J Upton trade offer was unsurprisingly rejected, trying to find some other speed/power guys to target. I made an offer for Rios, any other suggestions for 20/20+ candidates?
@Tom Emanski: Yeah he looks terrible. As a Mets fan, I’m hoping it’s just the lack of proper spring training. Fantasy-wise, it makes me very happy.
GRAND SLAM Penny!
@Kazmere:
Whaaaa?
@3FingersBrown: Not me. I traded Freese for him recently. You’d think one would win that trade. I blame Grey for this: “Jose Reyes – 2-for-4 yesterday as he stole his 7th and 8th base. Currently batting .237. He’ll be batting .255 with 17 steals by the end of the month. So says 1-800-My-Brain.” And that’s me quoting Grey!
Haven’t started Pineiro since his 10 run debacle, he runs off 3 straight QS, then this. /Rant, sorry.
it looks like only start him at home.
Oh and what’s up with Nolasco? I’m getting Rick No’d by him this year. He’s been consistently meh instead of the darkhorse Cy candidate many though. And since I’m in a HRs allowed league, he’s extra hard to own.
@Tom Emanski:
He’s on pace for a complete game loss tonight.
He’s been pretty good, and if he has a 2nd half like last year it would be great.
@Donnie Baseball:
I think he was on my team for at least a week before I cut him. Oddly everyone Grey predicted (with a sole exception) I would drop before the end of May ended up getting cut. Amazing.
@Tom Emanski: Ditto. And I sat Hamels tonight to add salt to the wound.
Would you trade Morneau and Choo for Sandoval and J. Upton? I like Choo, but he has 2 HR today and I’m thinking it may be a good time to try to sell high.
@grey:
In a H2H league, please rank:
JD Drew, Garrett Jones, McLouth, Hart
We count R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG. . . . would be benching Damon and his 5 gm sched next week.
also, would you roster Carlos Santana if you had a spot to burn and had Soto?
@Tom Emanski: I need Quentinsity tonight! My opponent has Nolasco.
Figures Buerhle would throw well after I get rid of him. Hammels has looked good tonight against KC. He’s prone to the HR, but if he keeps his BB’s down, look out NL West!
@Kazmere:
Its a bitter pill. At least he’s pitching better. Last time this happened to me was when I benched Kershaw and hes been great since, maybe it’ll go the same with Camels.
As for Hamels plural. There’s the ace that I drafted!
Alexei, Desmond, or Aviles to fill in for Rollins?
@3FingersBrown:
I think the key phase in your earlier post was “looked good tonight against KC”.
@Crafty35a:
My Snakey Sense is telling me that Upton’s about to go on a hot streak. If I’m right, its a good trade. I’m less optimistic about Panda, but who knows.
Am I insane for even considering starting Billingsley against DET tonight?
@Tele:
Nah, its at Dodger Stadium and no DH.
@Elijah: Yeah, I benched him too. It’s all right, I don’t mind pitching sonavabenchings because it’s better that than him getting killed in your lineup.
@3FingersBrown: Nice…
@Tom Emanski: Yeah, hopefully he comes around, I own him everywhere.
@Elijah: Abreu?
@Crafty35a: I’d take Upton’s side. You will lose 10 homers in it though.
@Shane: Hart, Garrett Jones, Drew… Wouldn’t bother with Santana.
@TastelessGarbage: Desmond…Unless you need straight average then Aviles…
@Tele: I’d start him in most leagues.
@Elijah: Maybe Damon… Just thinking of cheap ones.
Thanks guys.
@Grey:
Yep, and once a guy’s benched you certainly are hoping he does well, not the inverse.
Had a feeling you were gonna say Abreau, dont really like him as a player but he produces so its worth a look.
@Elijah: Maybe Hunter… Yeah, totally, cause then at least you feel okay about starting them next time out. But if they get hit then, it really hurts.
Grey: I know you’re not big on Ellsbury, but I’m in desperate need of steals in my 12 team roto.
The sappy, stained-with-pinstripes Yankees fan who owns him (yeah, he auto-drafted Ells) would probably move him for Posada and a shmohawk OF. He’s had catcher problems since Day 1 and thinks I won the lotto with Posada. Worth it? or stand pat and hope Reyes gets it going? Granted he’s got 9 already, but he’s basically a one trick pony.
@Elijah: @Grey: HAHA Nice! Well I got the long ball part right.
Romero a save play? Kazmir’s dead weight and I’ve got Simon who could blow any time. Slim pickings in 15 team.
Don’t look now. They’re stretching out Z in relief again.
@Kazmere: That’s worth it.
@3FingersBrown: I’d go with Romero.
drop OLSEN? how bad is the injury?
pick up edwin jackson vs. TOR in his place?
cervelli or Napoli?
Even with that Whip, Sonvabench Brett Myers.
@slinky: Napoli. (I’m no expert– Grey answered the same question for me earlier.)
please rank these pitchers:
leake, marcum, latos, kennedy, cueto, medlen
and who would you own over penny, oswalt or slowey?
So what happened to Penny? He jacked a grand slam then got pulled?
@Grey: I’m thinking about this trade offer: Me giving up Michael Young and Ellsbury for Quentin, Krispie Young and Kendry Morales. I would be left with Troy Glaus at third. I relied on ellsbury for all my speed and I’m severely lacking power. My team is pitiful and I need to do something. Thnx.
Oh god Leblanc getting rocked by the M’s! Make it stop!
nobody knows nuthin’
@bobbo:
From St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
The Cardinals beat the Angels 9-5 on Friday night, with a big hand from starting pitcher Brad Penny, who hit a grand slam homer that broke a 4-4 tie in the third inning. But Penny left the game before throwing another pitch with a strained right lat that could keep him out for a while.
While there was no word on the severity of the injury, other pitchers with similar injuries have missed closed to two months.
Shh…I traded Bautista for Carlos Pena straight up. I’m trying not to crack a smile.
Its not looking good for Haren then as another pitcher gets it done with the maple …..the guy is a one man RBI machine today
please Lord don’t let Dan suffer an injury
Or have to face Encarnacion again today
12 team, mixed roto 10×10
Should I drop Olsen and Penny for Ely and Medlen?
Heyward owners, I hate all of you.
Leblanc just dropped a Leturd on my ratios for this week. drop him for Bergessen’s start tomorrow? He wont K anybody but I’m going for a W/QS/ratios… my ERA is in the 5′s after Leblanc’s poo.
I’ve been thinking the same thing about Morneau. Perfect sell high. corner stone of my offense. cognitive dissonance ugh! I’ll see how much I can get for him…it’d have to be sweet, or I’ll probably just cross my fingers that he sustains a good season and stays healthy. One thing you didn’t mention is that his walks are also way up, having injured his back from swinging and missing, his approach seems to have changed.
LeBlanc bombed worse than his spinoff of Friends.
Another HR for Bautista. I guess the FBI is just building their case before raiding his house.
@slinky: Saying day to day, but you can go with Edwin if you need the H2H start, I’d stay away from him in roto though.
@slinky: Napoli
@paulzone: Cueto over Penny…
@Rick Dempsey: I answered this above, no?
@Kazmere: Thanks for the update!
@The Cino: Yup
@bodymore: Sure re: Bergesen.
@Utica Dave: Nice!
@Tom Emanski: That’s very funny.
Seriously, Haren has some jaded stats this year. 8 IP 8K. wonderful. 1.12 whip. not bad. 4ER uch… I needed that QS, it was there in stat tracker, but now it is gone
Edwin Jackson is also available, would you take his start in TOr or Bergessen in Washington?
Dropped Myers last week thinking he wouldn’t be great against TB, meanwhile Leblanc stinks, figures…
Deeeep league question. Who’s the better OF option out of Coco Crisp and Trevor Crowe? OBP league.
@Grey:
Simon!
Feeling like doing a little streaming tomorrow to help my ERA. Pick one?
Ely v DET
Medlen @ PIT
Bailey @ CLE
@Grey: Glad to see you’re still above ground.
You normally catch the Dodgers – Why No Kuo? (could be his brother)
Matchups?
Starting to love me some Bills again, though.
@Kazmere: Bailey and Medlen go Sunday don’t they?
Which sides do you prefer in the following trades? (12 team, 6×6-ops/holds, 5 keeper)
1. Weaver, Chone, Panda /for Zimmerman, Ichiro
2. Jimenez /for Butler, Abreu
3. Jimenez, Chone, Panda /for Longoria, Ichiro
If interested: Weaver-$3, Jimenez-$12, Panda-$23, Zimm-$25, Longoria-$40, Ichiro-$23, Butler-$11, Abreu-$11
@Grey: Lumbergh liked my trade of Pujols for Howard and J. Johnson in a H2H league. What do you say?
A couple more:
4. Aramis /for Weaver
5. Jimenez, Chone /for J.Upton, ARam
Steve, that’s like rubbing turpentine in an open wound. I traded Bills for adam jones, and Billingsley has looked just dandy since then…Jones has stunk…finally went deep tonight…and left the game w/ leg cramps.
I’m not sure I’ve ever endured a fantasy season with as many ups and downs as this one.
I had a feeling about Nolasco’s start… Sonavanotbench!
*******Rollins re-injures his calf.*******
And now Cliff Lee…
Guys, I think Edwin Encarnacion (affectionately nicknamed E5) is for real.
@bodymore: I feel you. I dropped Buerhle last week for Francis. That start sure would have made Leblanc’s hurt less.
My opponent getting that Qualls save (Hill for the last out no less) was a perfect cap to an awful night… make that 3 weeks.
@DrEasy: For real as in hitting around 15-20 HR? That’s how Eddy rolls.
I’d give him a go for a hot streak in 12 team. He’s done been gone in 15 team.
@Steve:
Hey Steve, how’s the RCL Originals going? I have to admit I’ve been a bit curious for reports particularly since seeing the Schmohawks draft/roster. It looks crazy but there’s clearly some mad genius involved (or maybe just luck).
**As for Rollins, I think I just said earlier. regarding a trade, something to the effect: “Assuming he’s healthy”. Injuries are always tricky. If Lidge wasn’t enough, it’s a good reminder not to count your chickens til a guys off the DL for a week or so. All too often players are eager to come back (too soon) and reinjure it (worse).
@3FingersBrown: E5 hit a bunch of home runs at the end of the season last year as well, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was more of a 30 HR kind of guy (over a full season though, he’s missed quite a bit this year already). I’m starting to wonder if there’s something special that Cito and Murphy (his hitting coach) are doing to all these right-handed hitters (Bautista, Buck, Wells, E5, Gonzalez, even Hill last year). They are all hitting better than they’re supposed to.
@bodymore: Bergesen
@Tom Emanski: Crisp
@Elijah: Ha
@Kazmere: Medlen
@Steve: Bills! Not sure on Kuo.
@BabyBeluga: 1. Zimmerman’s. 2. Ubaldo’s. 3. Ubaldo’s.
@Professor Chaos: I’d take Howard’s side.
@BabyBeluga: Weaver and Upton.
@DrEasy: Ha
@Black Beard: Thanks for the heads up!
@Steve: You’re nipping at my heals in the Razzball standings.
@DrEasy: Sure he’s 27, in his prime as they say. I’d agree that 30 would be doable in a full year. Thing is, he’s never played a full year. He might touch 25 if he stays healthy, which I doubt he will. The most he’s ever played was 146 games and in that he hit 26.
Jose Lopez – Ticker Tease! (although, what were you really expecting anyway?)
@3FingersBrown: Well, that would work for me as someone you’d typically draft very late. If/when he gets injured, you just go for a schmohawk off waivers (Kouzmanoff, Inge). The E5 + schmohawk combo should be worth a pretty good 3B drafted much earlier (Ian Stewart or better?).
@Grey:
Your Heals? Is that why you went to the doc? *emoticon*
@3FingersBrown: I should add I understand that the hesitation for drafting him early may have been due to his wrist problems, but after this 3HR night (and I saw those home runs, they were not of the cheap variety!) there should really be no worries. He should be owned in 12-team leagues, in my opinion. (funnily enough, he’s available in my league, but I really have no room for him, unless I drop Posada… hmmm….)
The Pitching Staff I drafted in my 12 team 6 keeper that looked unbelievable a few weeks in:
Felix
Haren
Nolasco
Weaver
Liriano
Slowey
Cueto
Lilly
Will someone please play me some violin? traded away weaver and slowey and picked up wilson and leblanc. awesome.
Is this unit gonna turn it around or am I doomed? Someone please say something to make me feel better.
Oh yeah, the closers I drafted:
Soria
Hoffman
Frasor
Francisco
@Elijah:
http://razzball.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8948
You should be able to see the league here:
http://games.espn.go.com/flb/leagueoffice?leagueId=16355&seasonId=2010
@Grey: Something to be said for set and forget. Had me a big day today, though. Pineiro!
@dean:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fyp74H3kMdI
Umm. Some of them are bound to improve. Others may remain stable or get worse. Youtube search for ‘sad violin’ will offer innumerable options for your perusal. You should get plenty of K’s. Maybe your hitters will carry your team. Candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she’s registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let’s get two!
what does everyone think of Hamilton this year?
@Elijah: I posted a link to an update I put in the forums and the link to the league, but my comment is “awaiting moderation”.
@Steve:
I don’t think the filters like links. Yeah I saw the forums, but I’m curious to hear some more details than merely the rankings, maybe you could find a few mins to entertain us.
kevin slowey was just dropped in my 10 team auction league. is he worth picking up at this point or, should i let some other poor bastard hope for the turn around?
time to bail on Smoak? I could grab Glaus.
My Braun and coughlin for Ry. Howard and Werth. Hate to give braun but this is clearly an upgrade, right?
@DrEasy: Hehe
@Elijah: Ha
@dean: You’re not doomed, you just need to be patient. Guys go through cycles. To get to a 3.50-4.00 ERA there’s going to be some 5 ERA weeks and some 3 ERA weeks. Ride the wave.
@Steve: Yeah, Steve, give us some anecdotes.
@pat: I think if he avoids injury he can be a productive number one to two outfielder.
@Vottomatic: Let someone else deal with him.
@Schlitzy: Go for Glaus.
@Schlitzy: I’d take the Werth side.
@Grey Do you like Guthrie or Blackburn for the year? Guthrie has decent numbers despite playing for Baltimore. Maybe he gets traded to a contender.
@Fletch: Guthrie…
@DrEasy: Yeah he hit bombs last night. What do you have at catcher to replace Posada? Might be worth dropping for E5.
@Grey: Morning Grey. Just read that Jason Hammel tweaked one of his many groins while turning to watch a Guillen homer leave yard. Could be headed back to the DL.
Just dropped him in my 15 league for Takahashi – who I dropped last week, when his start was moved back to the Yankee game. Funny how that worked out. Tak looked real good last night against half the AAA Scranton lineup. Surprised me.
@3FingersBrown: Funny how these guys keep track of all of their groins.
16-team H2H-POINTS Keeper League
A-Rod FOR Tex & Strasburg
A-Rod and Tex are NOT keeper eligible, (drafted in the first two rounds). But Strasburg can be kept in the 8th round in 2011 and the 5th round in 2012.
If a keeper pitcher is too risky, how about McCutchen with Tex instead of Strasburg? McCutchen would cost the same rounds as Strasburg.
@Commish Cauda (formerly Mike): I’d take the Tex side as is now, but I’d prefer McCutchen.
@Grey:
He might not do McCutchen, but I’ll try. What if it were Austin Jackson instead of McCutchen, (same keeper status)?
Probably then prefer Strasburg over Jackson then, huh?
BTW, when are the next Razzball Commenter League rankings coming out? I own League 6.
@Grey: I’ve got a hard enough time keeping track of one. I guess that’s why they’re pros.
What do you think of Pelf tonight against the 1/2 Yanks? I was going to sit him. My Yankee-fan homey, who I’ll be going to the game with, (the same step-sister humping scoundrel that had Tak last night) said go with Pelf and expect another low scoring affair. After last night’s laser show, I think he might be right.
@Commish Cauda (formerly Mike): I just updated the standings last Friday. I’ll do them again next Friday. I’d do Strasburg over Jackson.
@3FingersBrown: He could be fine, but I wouldn’t start him. I see little point starting any pitchers below top tier ones vs. the Yankees, except in H2H. Then I almost start them depending on the H2H matchup.
@Grey: Last Friday? Sorry..missed it….I was traveling. Thanks.
@Grey: I hear you. That’s my take as well.
Pelf throws a lot more fastballs too, and those Scranton bats won’t have to contend with Tak’s funky stop-start motion which I can see giving guys fits the first time they see him.
in my never-ending search for a better 4th OF.. please rank the following for an NL 4X4 league.. I’m ranked in the middle of every category.
Francouer, Colvin, Fukodome…
I like Colvin, but worry about playing time, with Nady getting healthier and Soriano, the above-mentioned Fuko, and Byrd ahead of him.
Thoughts??
@elwood blues: Frenchy, Fukudome…
@Grey: I posted this while you were under the scope yesterday. Swung a deal of AJ/Span for Wright yesterday in an 8 Team H2H keeper (luckily still had Span’s 3 hit performance in the lineup for last night), and I promptly snagged Kennedy to replace AJ, per your advice. We count Hits, Runs, HRs, RBI, BB, Ks, SBs, Avg. This is my offense at present, post trade:
VMart
Morales
Utley
Longo
Andrus
Kemp
Cargo
Cruz
B-Up
Wright
MMD
Konerko
These guys are actively available:
Markakis
JD
Scott
Gomes
Papi
Damon
Ibanez
C.Lee
Quentin
Hawpe
Cuddyer
J.Lopez
Pacman – Waivers until the 24th
Krispie – Waivers until the 23rd
As you can see, I’m not in need of much on that roster, maybe a few more HRs, but I’m more than solid in every other category. Would you drop anyone (probably MMD or Konerko – don’t think anyone else is droppable) for any of the available guys? Thanks dude.
@Wilsonian: I’d hold for now.
@Grey: Span for Alcides and AJax? Keeper league with standard 5 + OBP. I’d pick up Lopez off of waivers.
@Grey: Thanks, that’s kind of what I was thinking, but I’m a little tired of MMD’s yawnstipating performance. But with that lineup, I don’t think much matters. And if you think that offense is sick, you should check out my pitching staff, anchored by Doc, Ubaldo, JJ, Verlander, Shields, Jered…ah, the joys of of 8 team leagues.
I also have a 4th OF question. I have Boesch. Kosuke, Bradley, Sizemore (if healthy), and Crisp are available. Are any of those better than Boesch?
Also, when is everyone planning on picking up Carlos Santana? I’m getting fed up with Alcides batting 8th so I’ll probably do it soon.
@Tom Emanski: I grabbed him a few weeks ago in both a 12 team keeper and 15 team 2 C’s.
He was actually drafted in the keeper league, but dropped when his owner suffered too many injuries to carry him.
I’ve suffered a bit from the lack of depth, but I’m feeling I’ll have a valuable bat and/or trade chip come the stretch (I also have Wieters, who I could deal).
Speaking of god. He’s back in the lineup today. AJP sits for the ChiSox. Desmond’s sitting today too.
@3FingersBrown: I’d want Span.
@Tom Emanski: I’d hold Boesch for a few more days.
@Tom Emanski: Pick Santana up now if you want him, but I don’t think he’s going to do much.
@3FingersBrown: Ha
@grey and anyone else: picking up coghlan?
@Grey: Yeah me too. I’ve coveted Span since missing him on draft day.
He’s got crazy MI injuries and blanco polanco playing MI now, so I’m hoping he’ll be enticed by the young upside.
Funny Santana was mentioned… I just received an offer of Derek Holland for Santana in my 2 C league. Fair enough, but I need the potential power C more than another questionable starter.
Grey, I know you’re not high on Santana (the player, not the probable illicit drug) but he makes good trade bait too. I already have Napoli so I can pick and choose who to trade to some sucker in my league. This is all after I punted C in the draft!
@Grey: Got an owner who wants to trade Haren. I’m all too familiar with his splits, but his peripherals are good. He’s gotta drop that HR/FB% right?
The owner likes Aaron Hill for some unknown reason. Hill and Slowey for Haren? Is that too much? Again I’d probably grab Lopez for MI. I can throw Correia or Leblanc into the conversation too instead.
Got offered Pedroia and Kershaw for BJ Upton, Aviles and Lindstrom. I’ve got 3 other closers and Aviles is just waiver fodder. Pull the trigger?
@knighttown:
Yeah
Grady Sizemore just appeared on waivers. I haven’t paid any attention to his suckiness. Is he worth stashing on my DL? I’d lose my #6 waiver spot and Snyder or DeLaRosa.
@knighttown: hells yes
I may have just let the Tigers fan in me sell Morneau for a bag of Funyuns (and a shot of Cuervo). Swapped Morneau for Miggy and threw Ludwick in to make sure that the deal went through. I’ve got Granderson coming back and didn’t wanna have to drop Ludwick (either him or Cruz, Hamilton, Upton, or Car Gonz) so I thought why the hell not, Ludwick’s hot right now. Also, I traded to him to the guy that “accidently” dropped Ludwick earlier in the season. He’s been trying to get him back ever since. I knew he’d be the deal git-r-dun-er. Dumb deal?
I wanna be Miggy’s twinkie.
@knighttown: Mark DeLaRosa?
@pwnightmare:
Thats some tasty Funyuns. Miggy’s a better injury risk if nothing else.
@knighttown: Mark DeLaRosa? Might as well be. Any word on DLR’s return?
@Elijah: You’re a knowledge guy. What do you think of trading for Haren in exchange for Hill and Slowey, Correia or LeBlanc?
I think if I offered Hill and Slowey, he’d bite. Is that too much though?
Any other opinions are welcome too.
Heading out to Metco to go see some early BP… and start drinking. If you see a drunken maniac in an Edgardo Alfonso jersey arrested for beating on a guy in a Donnie Baseball jersey, that’s me and my fantasy baseball arch-nemesis.
@knighttown: Wait for word on whether he will have surgery.
Gordon Beckham has hit for the cycle. He hit a single and then stole 2nd. He’s a 2-cycle engine but a cycle is a cycle.
Anybody have any SPs who are under the radar/available on the FA wire that have a favorable matchup this week???
Worth dropping Chapman or Correia for Floyd?
I just dont understand some of the questions you get asked…Its almost common sense on most of them there is a reason you write a description after every player.
@Grey: I offered my Braun/Glaus for Howard/Werth; he countered with Howard/Sparkakis. How do you feel about that?
wow, someone in my 12 team league dropped Beckett. I knew there was a reason I was holding #1 waiver priority. Let’s hope he turns it around.
@3FingersBrown: awesome man, my buddy sent me a text last night. “why didnt we get subway series tickets!” I don’t have a good answer for that one. Have fun!
@Elijah: A better injury risk? Is that like saying “x-rays were negative”? Morneau’s got that bad back, Miggy’s 27.
I need to drop one of these guys. Rank them for the remainder of the year
Ellsbury, Rios, Bruce, Gardner, Pence, Lind, C Quentin
Kind of like that computer you buy that’s outdated by the time you get it set up and running smoothly, is it time to drop Luke Sott yet? Or play him one more week as the Util?
Rich S. (Refresh Everything sign on)Counting on it! Has anyone FBed for extra credit toward the raffle?
Got offered Lincecum and Willingham for Ubaldo. Does Lincecum alone make that deal a winner for me? Any input would be appreciated.
To everyone voting for Synergy Center thank you – You know I will build a razzball room when we create this center. http://pep.si/abEtbm
In the RCL I want to stop the season right NOW.
Anyone else nervous about starting Ely against DET tonight?
pick which SP to throw, H2H i need one solid outting:
Cueto vs. CLE
Hughes vs. NYM
???????????????
I’m rolling with Cueto and with confidence.
@The Den: haha vs. MY tribe…. i know it kills me, isn’t this efff’ing my stepsister? IDK. Its what i’ve got lined up right now. I even like hughes at NYM, but the mets (if they decide to hit) can be a beach any given night.
@GREY and others: which side:
A) ricky romero, markakis, Stephen Drew
B) Reyes and Haren
Who’s a better bet at SS going forward… Everth or Alcides???
@Tony: Yeah sorry about your tribe man, I’m waiting on that C. Santana call up. But deciding on pitching match-ups for the weekend is always the best and worst part about fantasy baseball. I always just end up throwing everyone to try to take the guessing out of it. But with the way Cueto’s been pitching, I’m expecting a solid outing.
To acquire Gallardo (3.4xFIP), owner wants Grandy, Bay, or combination of Stewart & Uggla. I’m seriously thinking of dumping Bay. For FA in our league, I’m thinking Rolen can replace all of the batters mentioned except perhaps Grandy. Bay’s actually been lucky (.370BABIP). His ISO sucks too. It wouldn’t be the first time a player has neared 32 and started to suck. The Mets are just some sort of poison, it makes little sense. But Bay looks like .270-15hr rest of season would be a gift.
@The Den: ya we have a 10×10 H2H league, with a 32 inning min, i’ve reached the minimum, now just trying to compete with the guy i’m playing….. we’re pretty close in everything, i’m up in certain stats that i can AFFORD to throw one SP, but throwing 2 right now MIGHT screw me….. thanks
@Rico: if you can deal BAY straight for gallardo, do it….
jimmy rolllins for clayton kershaw???
In my recent trade where I sent away BJ Upton for Pedroia, we were haggling on add-ins and I managed to get him to throw in Kershaw and I threw in my 4th closer and Aviles. Now surprisingly, I stuck with a shit load of pitchers and a slight innings overage. Here’s my staff in a 10 team, 5x5er in order of preseason ranking:
Haren, Kershaw, Nolasco, Sanchez, Cueto, Price, DeLaRosa, Ervin, Latos and Liriano.
I’m looking to sell high on an SP and I’m thinking Price might be the guy to go since he really hasn’t had the AL East too much yet. Throw out some names of bats you’d target with Price.
@knighttown: id almost sell haren, but good luck, in H2H NO ONE”S BUYING….. kinda hard to sell high on him since he’s not real “high” on peoples lists right now, what a disappointing FIRST HALF….
Well, my Billingsley and A. Soriano for J. Upton deal fell apart. Now the guy that owns J. Upton wants Soriano and A. Hill instead. What do you guys think? I do also own Ian Stewart. The remainder of my outfield is V. Wells, Granderson, A. Jones, C. Quentin, Pierre, and I’ve got Beltran on the DL and Mike Stanton waiting in the wings. Does this deal really make sense for me? Losing the depth at 2B (even though Hill’s not performing yet) to get Justin Upton?
Wait, I’m confused. Is Carlos Gomez actually good?
twins bullpen blew the win for Slowey…also my league has QS and he just missed that by going 5.2 IP. So a promising day for him ends up in shambles. I know he’s skating on thin ice w/ a lot of owners….is anyone dropping him
oh dear god, why did I start Span over Bruce today! sonofabench
Do you think Borbon is gonna come around at some point? Who would you rather have in an al-only league at this point: borbon or crisp? And how close are they in value?
Do you think Borbon sings “whenicumaround” to himself in between at bats? No dookie.
Shit, I meant When I Come Around… I spelled it damn near like a Redman song instead……..
@rafi: he has been better of late, but losing ABs to lefties and generally just not looking right. I think he will come around, but it might be a while.
Couldn’t stand it any longer.
Out: Fowler
In: McLouth
@slinky: Sure
@3FingersBrown: I’d want Haren.
@Tom Emanski: Ha
@Buddo Chezuski: No idea who’s available in your league.
@Tom Emanski: Eh
@Schlitzy: It’s okay, depends on needs.
@Carl Spackler: Drop Quentin.
@OldMilwaukeePounders: I’d take Lincecum.
@The Den: I’d start him.
@Tony: Haren side…
@Joe B: Everth
@Rico: I’d give him Bay.
@Tony: Take Kershaw.
@knighttown: No idea what you need. Maybe someone cold on Holliday?
@G-RAM: I’d want Upton.
@rafi: Borbon over Crisp…
@Steve: Yup
Just curious… does anyone know why Albert Pujols hates me?
Grey: Drop Chapman for Scherzer? Can’t swing a deal and Gallaraga (the little cat) doesn’t look long for the rotation. Thanks!
@grey- what did u think of slowey’s start today?
Price + Berkman for Prince. Fair or lopsided?
@Awesomus Maximus: Did you over enunciate his last name> He doesn’t like that.
@AnotherFalstaff: I wouldn’t go near Scherzer.
@Martin: Be nice to see him do it against an AL team.
@knighttown: Fair, I’d take Prince.
@Grey: I make a point of pronouncing his name properly, I paid extra auction money to get him on draft day, I donated $10,000 to his charity, I wore a Pujols jersey to a funeral recently and I force my infant daughter to play with a Pujols bobble-head rather than her favorite doll.
Okay, so none of that is true, but all I’m asking for is a HR or two a week… maybe a few RBI. I guess if I wanted decent power numbers, I should have bit the bullet and spent that $35 on Bautista.
@Awesomus Maximus: Ha!
EncarNacion or cantu?
@Grey: With Rollins heading up to the DL (AGAIN!!! Urgh!!!), I need to pick someone up. With moving around the lineup, I can put whoever I pick up in my Util slot, so who would you grab out of the following? (ROTO 12 teams)
Best available options are:
Nate McLouth
Dexter Fowler
Kosuke Fukedome
Will Venable
Mike Sweeney
Not great options….who would you pick up?
@Grey: If I would trade ellsbury and could get back kendry morales and carlos quentin do you think he’ll go for it/be good trade value for me?
Dunno who watched tonight’s game, but Dice-K was mag-fucking-nificent tonight. I know it took a few spectactular plays (Ortiz? Anyone? Holy crap, right?), but all no-no’s and perfect games do.
That said, I’m a Sox fan and I wouldn’t touch him in fantasy with a 10-foot pole. All the same, that’s some good-ass baseball.
@Bob: Encarncion while hot, if you can afford to drop Cantu.
@GopherDay: Those aren’t good aoptions at all for a 12 team league… McLouth…
@Rick Dempsey: It’s fair if that’s what you need…
@Lines: Nah, missed it. Dice-K killed me in Razzball today though.
@Grey:
I’m surprised you haven’t spoken about Bruce’s recent hot streak, dude is tearing it up and contributing in some way everyday. He’s been raking this entire month AND stealing bases! What is it, 5 SB now? Nyger WHO!?
Anyone there? Pick three for tomorrow –
Price @ Houston
Latos @ Seattle
Medlen @ Pirates
Bailey @ Tribe
would Joe Saunders be a good spot starter for Monday? the only other one available is the Pirates starter. He’s been pitching well, and his career #’s vs Toronto’s hitters are good. Career-wise and this yr, he’s better on the road, and it’s a home start….
What do you guys think? Or is it not worth the risk? thanks!
@Grey: Thnx for all your help. Just donated a daiquiri!
Grey, kinda loaded right now, but I just wanted to say, this shit you got on here is some real quality baseball knowledge and analysis. I don’t know how good your TV personality would be but you should be gettin some bucks to talk this shit on espn or somethin. Jack Cust striking out.
Anyone starting J.J. against the White Sox today? Anyone? Bueller?
For the record, I am. I just want to know I’m not going this road alone.
Who do I sit today?
Bay, Quentin, Rasmus, Headley, Hart.
Also, any reason not to start Latos and Dirty Sanchez?
@Lines: If I owned him, I would but alas, I do not own him.
Aroldis Chapman – when do you think he will get the call up
June or September
grey. scott olsen to the DL…my DL slots are limited…should i drop him for myers, gorzellany, cecil, a. sanchez?
also, is azz dribble droppable?
if so, which 2 would you add?
thanks
Grey, need to pick up a MI now that Rollins is DL-bound. Reluctantly need to drop one of the following: Medlen, Holland, Fister, LeBlanc, or De La Rosa. Which SP should I drop? Thanks, as always.
@Eddy: Hehe
@Steve: All of them? Sit Medlen…
@and1mcgee: I wouldn’t start him.
@Lines: I’d start him.
@john: Headley… I’d start both…
@mr baseball: Late June/July
@boblobaw: Drop both for Cecil and Myers.
@Van Hammersly: LeBlanc…
Just had Morneau for Teix trade accepted! Thank you Grey!
@Grey: Thanks for the early morning response Grey.
Dotel for C. Pena if I’m punting saves?
zach braddock called up.
Brantley worth an add if Sizemore is going to be out awhile?
Crowe can’t hold on the spot can he.
@charlie batch: No problem.
@john: No problem.
@Donnie Baseball: I’d want Pena, but I wouldn’t to punt saves.
@boblobaw: Thanks for the heads up!
@Donnie Baseball: No need to add him unless you’re in an AL-Only league.
zach braddock – don’t know much about him – but if he should be picked up in any keeper league – I need to know right now grey
@mr baseball: His role isn’t clear, I’d hold for now.
the insane in the membrane pick up all prospects from the minors and there are always one in every league
grey he has a roll – for breakfast
brewers bullpen sucks
Gomes > Luke Scott?
Jeff Francis is now the ace of the Cororado Rockies once more
Grey, what’s your take on Figgins? He’s sitting in the FA pool right now (12 tm 5×5 roto). I have McGehee/Zimm holding down 2B/3B, but is he worth a pick up for future steals needs? Doesn’t seem to be doing much of anything right now.
@mr baseball: Just as I had planned all along. *twirls mustache*
Grabbing Francis makes dumping Buerhle before his last gem feel better. I figure he’s basically Buerhle in the NL West. Nice back end guy who gets QS and gives his team a chance to win.
@mr baseball: I have a guy like that in my 15 team deeeeep league. I called To Catch A Predator on the dude.
“A Beltre safe at first on error by third baseman G Dobbs, V Martinez and K Youkilis scored, J Drew to second.”
It was bases loaded with 1 out, so I get why Martinez’ run was earned, but why was Youk’s scored as earned? Anyone know?
@Awesomus Maximus: Ah… never mind, they just fixed it.
12 team H2H
CJ Wilson is starting to get scary. Brett Anderson Lilly or Kennedy to pick up?
I could pick up Anderson put him on DL and pick up Kennedy
Man I need a smart phone. Down 1 W, 1 QS, 2S (Thanks to the combination of Kevin 5 inning Slowey and Rausch). I had a feeling about Wake and Sox today but didn’t get home until 4AM…
Do you folks play in leagues where your adds are for the same day or the next day?
I hate next day add/drop – when you have to see what happens to your players on the west coast, before you make your moves for the following day. Leaves one with a short, couple of hour window before the rosters turn over at around 3am.
Napoli owners of the world are grateful. Scioscia still thinks Mathis is better.
@Tom Emanski:
Scioscia for some reason thinks things like calling a game and throwing out baserunners is important for a catcher. Oh and blocking the plate, not operating a run turnstile.
@Elijah: I’ve read the chapter, “Is Mike Matheny A Catching Genius,” in Baseball Between The Numbers and I have to go with the non-empirical, largely subjective evidence offered by countless players and coaches as to their relations their battery-mate over the mathematical findings from a lot of guys who don’t actually play the sport there.
Now I’m not saying Napoli should or shouldn’t sit over Mathis. I’ve not seen either catcher on a regular basis, so I can’t judge their skills behind the plate. Catchers do more than catch pitches, tag and throw out runners on defense though. Cust Kayin’
@3FingersBrown:
Yeah, Im just saying, When in doubt, I’m gonna defer to Mike on judging the caliber of a catcher. Talk about a guy that was successful with very limited talent… Just because a guy would be better from a fantasy perspective has nothing to do with reality and winning games.
Olivo or Napoli… have Olivo, Napoli on wire… grab Napoli or just stand pat
@Lines: I’d start J.J. vs. the ’27 Yankees. c’mon.
Just in case no one’s noticing, its time NOW to go get Tulo in a trade while you still can.
@Elijah: I had Napoli last year, so I know the frustration his owners feel but I can’t join in the chorus of Scioscia haters. It’s not like he’s Bruce Bochey managing a team.
This coming from a Mets fan who bares the multi-generational hatred of the LA Dodgers, from jilted Brooklyn fans. Scioscia’s HR off of Doc in the ’88 NLCS still hurts.
@Elijah: Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing.
RIP Jose Lima. A colorful character who brought a lot of fun to the game.
I once had a team called “Stop, Lima Time!”
John Axford with a scary 3 hit, 1 walk, 1 run save for Milwaukee today. He’s a hard thrower who has no idea where the ball is going.
Villanueva blew the save yesterday and threw 44 pitches, making him unavailable today. And of course Trevor Hoffman might get another shot too. Hard to say who if anyone has the Milwaukee closer job.
Anyone want to hear a story? H2H, 5×5, I’m losing every hitting cat but winning every pitching cat going into Saturday. I start no one, my opponent starts 4 on Saturday, gets 3 Ws and a save from all 3 of his closers, and now I’m down by 2 Ws, 2 Saves and 12 Ks coming into Sunday, but still have a comfortable lead in ERA and WHIP. However, I’m throwing Halladay, Greinke, Josh Johnson and Price. Who knows how the wins will shake out, but those 4 will easily throw 13 Ks total and keep my ERA and WHIP in check, right? Let’s take a look:
20 IP
18 ER
36 H/BB
4 K
Wow… just, wow. So now I get to lose all of the pitching cats instead of just a few… as well as all of the batting cats. Thanks, gentlemen. And to crap off the weekend, I’m going to miss two hours of the Yanks/Mets rubber match complaining about the series finale of The Biggest Letdown (AKA Lost). At least I’ll finally be done with both the show and this matchup come Monday morning.
Please rank these WW SP: E. Jackson, Myers, Harden, Penny, Floyd, Sheets. Thanks as always!
Grey, Latos is still on the wire in one of my leagues. Would you add him and drop any one of these…Wandy, Cueto, Baker? Latos has been pitching well but it’s all been against pretty terrible offenses so should I instead just wait and see if he can shut down a legit offense and hope he’s still out there to grab?
These Blue Jays are ridiculous, everyday someone is going yard multiple times or multiple players are going yard. It, seriously, is contagious.
Encarnacion is awesome!! How much longer doe this go on?
@Awesomus Maximus: I hear you. My ERA got raped by Carpenter and Grienke today. Still have Marcum going in that slug fest out west…
My H2H team is getting murdered with Pujols, Jete, Panda, Hill and Quentin all under performing. Jeter has been terrible with that .313 OBP so far this season. Pujols hasn’t had a HR or RBI in about 2 weeks and Panda never has anyone on base in front of him.
Can’t seem to put together both a good hitting and pitching week at the same time. I’m used to much better results in this league and it’s pissing me off.
@3FingersBrown: It’s painful, Brownie. Got Pujols over here, too. Watching him put up 0 HRs and 0 RBI for the week while Greinke posts 0 Ws and a 7.84 ERA just ain’t right.
@Brian Says:

could it be – Zach Braddock
Guys, I’m on an IV at the hospital, please help each other. A’la Fred Sanford, Lima, I’m coming.
Wow – all the best, Grey. Get well.
Not the bad mayo again?
Get well Grey!
I hope they put some Rum in that IV
@grey- feel better soon man. I hope everything gets better
Alfredo Simon (leg) exited Sunday’s game after covering first base in the tenth inning.
He limped off the field after clutching his left leg and did so with the aid of a trainer. He was replaced by Cla Meredith, who gave up a walk-off homer. Simon had tossed 1 1/3 innings in the 10-inning loss to lower his ERA to 2.92. It is not yet known what injury Simon suffered or if it shelve him. If he misses time, Koji Uehara could get a crack at save opportunities
@Grey: Get better man. We lost already lost one clown prince already today.
Wow I’m still drunk from yesterday. Did I just write that sentence?
@Awesomus Maximus: You read that thing about Albert giving Larussa the what for, sending Ludwick with him at the plate. What the hell are they thinking? Taking the bat out of Alberts hands.
I’m looking at Lopez on waivers. If he gets hot, he can be a nice run scoring catalyst for that lineup.
Lopez over Alcides? Every time Gomez hits a homer, an angel loses it’s wings.
(now that he’s back in the 8 hole, he’s not going to get a chance to run)
@Bob Says:
Encarnacion is awesome!! How much longer doe this go on?
now that you picked him up – the hitting streak is over
I wonder why the Red Soxs took Wakefiled out of the game for the 9th inning – he was dominating and only threw 103 pitches – isn;t he on a 300 pitch limit
Miguel Cabrera will miss Detroit’s upcoming series in Seattle to be with his wife for the birth of their second child.
its too bad that Gordon Beckham wife (if he is married ) isn’t expecting his child
Bautista now has seven homers in his last nine games
MLB is looking into Bautista to see if he been injecting himself with the Growth hormone – DK —(Dave Kingman)
Bailey exits early with sore shoulder – P. T. Barnum “There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute for those of you who still had man love for him
Pence just hit the waivers. I should drop Jonny Gomes to pick him up right?
@Steve: @Martin: @3FingersBrown: Thanks!
@mr baseball: Ha
@3FingersBrown: Lopez
@NukeLaDouche: Go for it.
Is this too much to offer: Lester, Hamels, Morneau, Cueto for R. Howard, I. Kinsler?
@Grey:
Stay off the DL bro.
@3FingersBrown:
Haha, funny, the Scioscia HR I was just thinking about when I was defending him, that was his signature moment.
@Grey – Is Carlos Zambrano a top 50 SP?
@The Den: Yeah, too much.
@Elijah: Ha, thanks… I will.
@William: Borderline…
@Grey: Good to hear you live and kickin’. Grabbed Lopez. Albert’s going to get hot and Lopez will benefit.
I think I may pull a Deniro in “The Fan,” on Carlos Gomez.
Some cool vids of Lima at his off the field best:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA3UP0odiIY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwXv9IYiHCc
I have no 2b, and have plenty of sp. Lester, Morneau, J. Sanchez for R. Howard, I. Kinsler? Should I pull the trigger?
@Grey: Too many daiquiris, Grey! Get well soon!
Hope they have ABC in the hospital. Isn’t LOST just starting now out on the west coast?
12 team 5×5 rotisserie… can you name a hitter(s) that might be a fair swap one for one with Phil Hughes at this point?
@mr baseball: Guilty as charged. Glad I waited to see what this start would bring before picking him up.
Get well soon, Grey!
Damn, Grey. Hope you’re OK.
What the hell am I gonna stay up until 2:15 in the morning for, now? The friggin Knife Show on QVC? I think not.
ya wow, i was wondering where the hell the morning round up was! i knew there was something up! get well man….
greys like the mailman, knew a tornado had to have hit….
@Grey: Feel better, Grey!
Well with this curveball to everyone’s morning I am going to step in with my PSA for the Refresh Everything update http://pep.si/abEtbm.
The weekend Razzball vote was strong and after finally teaching Pete (my two year old) how to pick a name out of a hat and give it to me without freaking out, he passed me —-
KERRY P.!!!!! Kerry please send me your info at whoisinthedoghousenowatyahoodotcom
Thank you everyone for your continued support and it isn’t over yet with a lot of ground to cover! So please pass the link on to your family and friends (FB and blogging makes for great voters).
As Rich S. said, “Razzball, Razzball, will get you to number 1″
Lets test that statement and get the word out there. We had at least 100 comments from Razzball this weekend. If each voter asked three FB friends to vote daily, do this three tiers deep in your FB we would go over the top.
I know, I know some of you are saying, “Hey I think I have seen that math!” Yes you have!
Hey Grey, hope you’re feeling better soon. Take care.
