Major Key Alert! Now, for all you Gen-X’ers and cowboy hat-wearing’ country boys, “Major Key” is a term used by us Millennials. Well, anyone can use it really. You should try it in your next board meeting, or at home in a convo with your wife. Have a great idea? Care to pass on some knowledge or drop a little truth bomb into a situation? Gotta give ’em that major key.

And yes, there’s an emoji for that…

Thanks DJ Khaled. I can use this. We can all use this. Because brewing in the post-hype bin of fantasy baseball players lies an option that should be targeted by all owners. Everywhere.
  • Keon Broxton, OF (40.5% owned) – May has been incredibly kind to Broxton thus far. After an April line of .191/11/1/3/6 the turn around’s been drastic: .395/10/3/9/3. Perhaps the biggest ‘key’ in the change is the drop in K% from a brutal 40.8% to 30.4%. Still not good, but massively better. He’ll get his fair share of strikeouts, but has shown in the past, even though it’s not strong right now, to get on base enough to balance it. He now has a slash line of .270/.336/.486 despite is awful April. How he’s owned in only 40.5% of leagues is a result of the abysmal start, but go ahead and get in on him now. Before the season I listed Keon in the Top 100, and had to drop him out a few weeks in. Now he forces his way back in as there’s still a shot he goes off for a 20/50 season. His BB% was double last year than where it is right now; if he gets it back to double-digits we’re looking at a .255/.350/.460 type player. He’s a major key to climbing the standings as he’s not just a SAGNOF. Target him in trades, but the window for a buy low is closing fast if it’s not already gone.

A few notes on the 100:

  • Really liking the way this Top 100 is shaping up. So many OF available that I’m actually fining difficulty trading any away in 10 team leagues. Guys like Andrew McCutchen basically have no trade value right now due to the other options playing so well. 6 weeks ago McCutchen was a 5-8 round pick, while Michael Conforto was being taken 200+. You couldn’t pay me money to make that swap now, though. Thus is the difficulty of preseason rankings, and why running the waivers early in the season can pay such dividends.
  • In the most recent Prospect Podcast Ralph and Halp talked about Yonder Alonso’s breakout season. It’s about five years late, but everything checks out for this to be sustainable. I don’t know that he’ll remain this hot and outpace Miguel Cabrera, but ride it while you can.
  • I typically avoid Billy Hamilton in almost all leagues. Well, in drafts I did. And now I’m paying the price. He’s the quintessential SAGNOF, but this year os far he’s hitting enough to bring a lot of value in other areas. Those 20 SB to this point in the season are almost a guarantee for 6-8 points in roto minimum. To get that from one player is remarkable, but don’t overpay for him. Someone offered me Hamilton for Rizzo in an NL-Only where I have power and need speed, but I can’t take a move like that. The relative value is too high when thinking of the market. Rather than overspend on Hamilton, find SB elsewhere, or go buy low on Villar and reap the benefits of at least  cats, if not all 5.
  • How much longer until Bryce Harper contends for that #1 spot?

As always…don’t agree with something?
