In yesterday’s game, Matt Kemp had 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. On the season, he’s batting .383 with 3 HRs, 14 RBIs, 12 Runs and 4 steals. The 7th spot in the order is killing his value like Daniel Craig killed the Bond series. Kemp’s a solid choice for NL MVP and I could see him moving to the 1st round next year for fantasy baseball drafts. He said in the preseason that he wanted to go 40/40. Can he actually do it? Like Chris Young, it’s a tall order. You don’t fall into 40/40 and, in Chavez Ravine, it’s not going to be easy for the 40 homers. But the fact he wants to steal 40 bases is telling. Steals are partially about motivation. Sometimes guys just don’t want to steal (see Krispie Young in ’08). Other times, players pile steals on to show they can (Canseco’s 40/40 year). I doubt Kemp reaches 40 homers, but 30/30 with a .300 average isn’t crackers. We shall call him Sizemoremore. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Glen Perkins – 8 IP, 1 ER. You’re talking about a pitching who had a 4.41 ERA last year, but a FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) rate of 5.14. That’s pretty bad. Okay, I’m being generous. That’s awful. Yes, he was lucky to only have an ERA of 4.41. His MOLLY (Mitigating Of Lousy Loathsome Yuck) was 7. That means he got pretty lucky. So far this year his MOLLY is 9.9. His BABIP has been insanely lucky so far, his fly balls are all over the place yet falling into fielders’ gloves. He’s due for a regression. If you own him, you’re bound to get Mollywopped.
Ricky Romero – 7 IP, 0 ER. To answer 95% of the questions off the bat, he’s better than Perkins. We thought at first that he might be an old-school Joker (BLAM!) but he has a fairly sustainable BABIP, his K/9 could get better and his average against is in line with norms. His walks are very low (for him), and he’s left a lot of guys on base, so he will see a correction in his future (SMACK!), but his FIP is only 3.86. You feeling stressed with Baker, Parra and Dice-K? Might want to try a little R & R. (POW!)
Rick Porcello – 7 IP, 1 ER. He’s matchups material in 12 team and smaller leagues. He’s very young, so Mike Seaver-sized growing pains should be expected. 6 innings, three earned, four Ks should be his typical line.
Adam Jones – Left with a sore hamstring and bloodshot eyes.
Manny Corpas – Kazaam! Don’t you just love Clint Hurdle anointing him closer then bringing him into this game?
Edinson Volquez – 6 IP, 1 ER, but gave up 5 walks. I hate to rain on your fantasy parade, but Volquez is still not pitching well. You can’t walk 5 guys in 6 innings and win… Unless, of course, you’re playing the Astros.
Cody Ross – 3rd HR. Could he be this year’s Nady? Well, if he gets real lucky on average. He could hit .260 and 25 HRs aka 90% of the outfielders on waivers in 12 team and smaller leagues.
Randy Johnson – 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 Ks, 1 Hit. Didn’t hurt that no one on the Diamondbacks is currently hitting, but Randy’s still very capable of these games. Unfortunately, he’s now capable of the 7 run disaster he threw last time out.
Matt Garza – 5 2/3 IP, 7 ER. It’s becoming a broken record, but he was also a risky pitcher.
Javier Vazquez – 6 IP, 0 ER, 8 Ks. Since his breaking pitches went up, he also showed up on the risky pitchers post. But so far JV has been, like ohmigod, straight varsity.
Raul Ibanez – HR and batting .386. I wasn’t a huge fan of his coming into this year… I mean, I liked him, but he is what he is. Anyway, one league where my team is doing abysmally, he’s been that team’s one bright spot. If he can now send a memo to Prince, Reynolds, Bruce and Alexei, that would be swell.
Chris Iannetta – Iannetta answers all Razzball readers who were looking to drop him with a HR yesterday. Now if he can get 28 more hits this year, he’ll have those 30 HRs you covet.
B.J. Upton – Left with quad tightness. Looks like he now has an excuse for his lollygagging.
Kyle Davies – 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 Ks. If he gives you that line every time out, you have to be happy. Not happy happy, but “Hey, it’s Kyle Davies, I’ll take it” happy.
Gavin Floyd – 7 IP, 2 ER. Ted Nugent. Is the answer to, “Who could persuade me to pick him up?”
Jarrod Saltalamacchia – With that last name would it have been too much to go with the standard Jared or even Jarod? His saving grace so far this year is Teagarden hasn’t been much better. I’m going to suggest you punt Salty by next Sunday if he doesn’t breakout out of his funk. The only reason why I’m being so patient is A) He’s a catcher, so if he only hits 15 HRs this year, he’s still worth it. B) He’s talented in a great home park and in a stacked lineup. C) No C, but you could break B up into a few parts if you’d like.
Chris Davis – Benched yesterday. If he ends up the biggest bust of the season, we’re gonna have to get a collection together to fly someone to have a “word” with Bill James about his Davis preseason projections of 107/40/118/.302/8. I think we should send Mr. Met. Bill will never expect anything.

No need to go dropping Lind for Ross, is there? I have to sit Ibanez, Morneau or Votto to fit Lind in anyway.
And in a not-entirely-unrelated question, how does Morneau + Felipe for Rollins grab you?
Oh – and I am really starting to curse the malfunction-based autopick that robbed me of Kemp…
I’m running out of patience with Burris. The only garbage that is remotely appealing on waivers is: Zobrist (mostly limited by ABs), Belliard (recovering from injury and no guarantee of regular PT), and Brandon Wood (monster numbers, but at AAA). Should I drop Webster for any of these guys?
Should I stick with Kelly Johnson or go for Hill or Asdrubal Cabrera and do you think Stephen Drew is worth hanging onto or dump him for Bartlett?
how much more time should i give jose lopez ??
Finally Kemp woke up and showed his power. Two moon shots to straight-away center. I was kinda getting frustrated with him. Or Beltran…
I need some catching advice: I have Wieters on the bench and went with Flores so far. Should I go with him, random hot catcher J. Baker or pick up Salty?
@Steve: I know the problem. I have 3 OF spots and two UTIL spots to fill with ibanez, beltran, abreu, cruz, dye, lind, and dukes. It’s a 12 team league and some guys have really bad 2nd UTIL and 3rd OF guys. It’s a nice problem to have, but its still a problem, cuz I always feel as though I’m gonna miss out on someone’s awesome week.
@big o: I didn’t drop lopez, but I made sure to pick up aaron hill. I think Lopez comes around, and I want to be the one to own him when he does.
Follow-up questions:
1) As a fellow Bruce owner, are you worried about Bruce yet?
2) As a fellow Alexei owner, are you worried about Alexei yet?
3) Can I punt Villaneuva now or do I have to wait until Hoffman actually hobbles to a ML mound and throws a pitch?
4) Are you buying Jeremy Hermida as a post-post-post-hype sleeper?
Why do you have to hate on my Astros! Oh, the Wandwagon is in motion but theres plenty of room to hop on. 7 IP 10 K 0 R. Felipe Paulino also pitched well 6 IP 6 K 0 R. If he pitches a no hitter next time out do you promise to mention him in a post?
I’m getting impatient with Pablo Sandoval. He’s playing 3rd base everyday, never catcher. He needs to start at least 5 games at catcher before he gains eligibility. He’s wasting one of my six reserve positions right now with no end in sight. Anyone know if he’ll ever play catcher? It’s Bengie Molina everyday out there.
@ Grey: Ahhh I fell asleep last night before you responded about dropping Napoli for Inge and what do ya know, this morning I wake up to 5 transactions in my league!
Scutaro, Inge, Duncan, W Rodriguez, Molina & Galarraga while the following were dropped…
Aviles, Sandoval, Jackson, Street, Bartlett & Verlander
I don’t think I could use any of them unfortunately.
@ Grey: Ahhh I fell asleep last night before you responded about dropping Napoli for Inge and what do ya know, this morning I wake up to 5 transactions in my league!
Scutaro, Inge, Duncan, W Rodriguez, Bartlett & Galarraga while the following were dropped…

@Eric: You could be waiting months for Sandoval to start 5 games at C… I don’t think the Giants have any plans to use him there, fantasy-baseball-versatility be damned.
In Yahoo!, where he qualifies at C, he’s a desirable player — much less so as a 3Bman. Depending on how deep your league is, feel free to punt.
Ian Stewart needs playing time, (and for my team, maybe OF eligibility). Quick, someone go deer hunting!
Grey, what? No comment on Neithier? He still has less power and no speed compared to others, but that spot in the lineup helps. I love the Dodgers but have no fantasy love for that guy. But that changes if Torre keeps him where he’s at with Kemp at the bottom. It’s weird, and I don’t get it, but he will keep producing there. Still, he can only max out at 25 HR (and I think that’s a stretch) but with that spot in THAT lineup he could end up with 100 RBIs.
Also, Kemp for MVP? Only if he learns how to field and run bases without looking like a little leaguer. Fantasy stud- no doubt.
I’m thinking of dropping Conor Jackson (my starting 1b) or more likely Carlos Guillen for Mike Jacobs. Would this be advisable? Think I’d be better off trying to trade Heath Bell for someone like Pena? 14-teamer and I’m quite unsatisfied with my 1B production.
Does it make sense to play a catcher-eligible Brandon Inge until Geovany Soto gets going, or should I stick with Soto through thick and thin?
Also, should I stick with Jayson Werth as my Util or ride the hot bat of the Pride of Belle Fourche, South Dakota — Jason Kubel?
Thanks in advance.
@Tom: kemp goes 30/30 plus with 100 rbi’s he can bounce balls off his head in the OF for homeruns a la Jose Canseco and win an MVP. I know defense figures into it, but I also caught a sportcenter highlight of him robbing an XBH ramming into the ouffield wall. MVP is more more based on the guys offense.
I do agree Kemp batting 7th blows, but you can’t deny a dude hitting over .300, jacking HR’s, and stealing bases a better spot in that order. Eventually he’ll bump up whether Joe Torre likes him as a person or not. Hudson or Furcal will get hurt or something will change… didn’t Torre actually bat Eithier 2nd and Kemp 5th on saturday? He’s just juggling it up, figuring things out, soon enough he’ll realize Kemp is the superior talent. If not even at the 7 hole Kemp seems like he’s going to produce. I’d love to see a line up something like this….
Furcal
Eithier
Kemp
Manny
Loney
I own eithier and Kemp…. this would be MONEY! Dodgers have a nice line up for that division.
Quentin with another Donger! 7 boys… he’s the real deal,how many can he hit this year?
@anon: I wouldn’t drop either of those guys for Jacobs. Granted, Jacobs gives you power the other two don’t, but thats all he gives you. His average will be sub .270 unless he has a great year and he isn’t going to hit 40 homeruns.
@Eric H.: I’d go with the hot player for now with Inge and wait for Soto to come around. Who knows, maybe Soto’s rookie season will be his career best. There aren’t any guarantees that he’ll outperform Inge at this point.
@p0rk burn: Thats pork burn. Also, I could drop Jackson or Guillen for Kotchman or LaRoche who are also available. Think eitherof these are a better option?
@anon: Hah! “Thats pork burn.” As in “p0rk burn’s opinion is meaningless and only serves to take up space in the comments”? Ouch. That’s ok, you’ll just have to go without the p0rk fried advice.
Any Jays fans on this board that can break down Ricky Riccardo Romero’s performance so far? Is he the second coming of Jimmy Key? Gustavo Chacin? This cat for real?
@Tarasco’sSecretStash: Romero is the real deal, Cust Kayin’… no really, Jack Cust says “He reminds me of Santana a little bit, his body and his mannerisms, the way he throws. Santana’s got those broad shoulders like he’s got. He’s similar, he’s got a similar arm slot, similar delivery. He’s going to be good.”
You know the old saying, “If it looks like a Johan and pitches like a Johan, then it must be a Johan”
His last two were against the Twins and A’s…. not exactly stellar hitting teams right now.
@Tarasco’sSecretStash: He’s got a top-prospect pedigree, and apparently underwent a delivery/mentality makeover this off-season. He’s definitely worth grabbing if you have the spot and the need.
That said, I’ll be interested to see how he does the 2nd and 3rd time through the Yanks, Sox and Rays lineups….
How long before Chris Davis earns the nickname “Crash”. I wasted one of my four keeper spots on him. Doh!
BTW, Jayson Werth isn’t far behind in suckiness. As a Phils fan who gets to see him everyday, he has been god-awful. He had six consecutive pop-ups recently. Not sure Ted Williams could have done that if he was trying.
Ricky Romero over Lilly or Randy? I posted this in the trade forum as well what about this, I trade Peavy/Davis for Liriano/Aramis
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I like Lilly out of the three pitchers. As for the trade, it comes down to your needs. Do you need a really good pitcher and a potential bat, or do you need a so-so pitcher and really good bat? I don’t expect Liriano to recapture the magic.
@Steve: I want Lind. Trade’s fair on either side. Depends what you need. If you have no 1st baseman and need Felipe, it’s fine.
@DrEasy: Have to hold tight there.
@JPH: Hold Drew and Johnson.
@big o: Another week or two, but filling him in with the hot hand while waiting isn’t a bad idea.
@Mowses: I’d go Baker for now.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: re: Alexei and Bruce — Worried? Yes. Selling low? Nope.
I’d wait to see Hoffman return before dropping Villanueva.
Hermida — He had one HR the first or 2nd game of the season then two HRs two days ago with nothing in between. I need to see more.
@Chase: Please, I pushed Wandy all offseason as a buy. He just didn’t pitch yesterday.
@Eric: Sandoval’s not the catcher.
@PhillyYorker: Ha!
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Lilly, Randy, Romero, in that order.
“Glen Perkins – 8 IP, 1 ER. You’re talking about a pitching who had a 4.41 ERA last year,…”
You’re talking about-a-pitching, whatsamatta, huh?
Ha!
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I won Bruce, holding for sure, and i’m trying to pry alexie from an owner, I’ve been shooting him something like Francouer and a schmohawk closer, he won’t bite… I’d sit like Grey said. He started like this last year. Maybe he’s Mark Teixiera like and starts cold? We haven’t seen enough….
own bruce, i own him LOL
Spot start Morales vs. Arizona? He brought the pain against them last time, and I’m pretty far behind in K’s.
@cubbies299: Yeah, go for it.
In my razzball roto league someone offered me ricky romero, kyle davies, and some other young starter for my DL Chris Carpenter? I dont know if I understand why someone would do this? I’d have to drop a couple guys to be able to even roster those guys…. It didn’t make sense to me, but I’m a long time H2H guy, first year roto guy… HELP?
Oh, also Gray, who’s the bigger punt between Agord and Wang? One or both of them are getting dropped for Kuo and Balfour when they hit waivers (holds league… dunno why they were dropped)
@ Noontime. that Cust analysis is interesting, they definitely have similar profiles. This is a similar point in Johan’s career when he really started to put it together, too.
@ Vulture, yeah that’s what I mean. This kid seems tough, but there are some serious lineups in the AL East for a Canadian young pitcher to navigate over an entire season. Even the O’s lineup is legit now, moreso once Weiters comes up. Romero seems like a good short term option, but I can’t see him doing this all year.
I took Prince Fielder with my 3rd round pick, hoping Kemp would swing back to me. Instead, I had to take shitbum Guerrero.
@Joel: What was Prince doing in the 3rd round? Is this a 5 team league?
Do you want:
Furcal & Hill
or
Alexei & Qualls
?
@Tony: If you have no room, don’t do it. Looks like he’s trying to pull a chump dump on you, though I’m not sure Carpenter’s going to return as soon as he’s hoping.
@cubbies299: I’d drop both. Gordon first.
@Joel: Weird you took Prince in the third then Vlad in the fourth. Almost like you were playing in a 2008 league.
@The Dude: Not sure which Hill, but assuming Aaron. Still want Alexei and Qualls.
Also, when did Bobby Abreu become Bobby Abreyes? 7 bags in 12 games?
@Grey: you’re right – Aaron – thanks
@p0rk burn: What was Prince doing in the 3rd? Going well ahead of his production so far this year.
Fielder, Iannetta and Alexei are all treating me right so far this year. I’ll be happy when they collectively cross the Mendoza line.
Price was just dropped in my 12 team H2H league. Who should I drop for him?
Guthrie-Davies-Zimmermann
@Grey: Chump Dumping, the follow-up smash hit to Chumbawamba’s Tubthumping! I think if one is able, now is a great time to try to trade the Romanos, Lohses, Davies, Galarragas, Perkins, Jacksons, Washburns and Saunderseses. Pair with a hitter to improve that offense position, or see if you can deal to the “what have you done for me lately” owners of Haren (0-3!), Shields, Lincecum (probably too late now), CC, Webb, Hamels.
@bostonaccent: I’ve got Prince, Phillips and Bruce all flirting with .175. Alexei, meanwhile, hasn’t seen .175 in a week. The trifecta of Prince, Alexei and Phillips went 5-for-60 this past week.
But in a masterstroke of genius, I grabbed Alexei for my Razzball team. That way, if he continues to stink, I win in one league. If he heats up, I win in the other. And that’s called a win-win!
I’m thinking of just running out two identical teams, one in regular roto, one in Razz.
@bostonaccent: He may be underproducing so far but I don’t think (m)any people pegged him to be going past pick 30. My point is I’m surprised to hear he was available past pick 20, which is when the third round would begin for the smallest leagues deserving respect (10 teams). Now if you drafted him based on this years productions that is quite impressive. Your precognizance must win you quite a large number of leagues.
is Wood getting the Call?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I’m trying to figure out what biorhythm chart I need to get for Iannetta’s homer day. His DNP last week was his only positive contribution to my team.
@p0rk burn: My psychotic visions are only matched by my photogenic memory. I drafted Prince to be my starting first baseman, which pretty much ends any discussion on my ability to project peformance. Of course, if you had “Don’t Call Me Yanni” Gallardo down as the most productive Brewers’ hitter to date, hats off to you…
@Grey: I figured Hurdle was trying to get Corpas some work in a blowout. Closers never seem as sharp in no save situations, do you think this will impact his decision of annointing Corpas the closer?
@The Dude: The Angels love to run, so that can’t hurt.
@deepee: Can we see how Zimmermann does tonight before deciding on this?
@NoonTime: Chumpdumping… Nice.
@Billy: For what? Huh?
@Doug Ault: Nah, he’s the closer for now, but it’s tenuous.
Big Papi tripled (!) today. Anyone watch Boston games regularly? I autodrafted him in a league and I need to know what to do with him. Will the power be back?
@Grey: So in your opinion, the decision would hinge on how Zim fares against the Braves? Is that too harsh a test? Or is Zim clearly the bubble guy from the group of Guthrie-Davies-Zim. I’m not really sure how Price and Zim compare from an upside perspective…I would think Price would get more W’s with the Rays but how would/should they compare in the other categories?
@Griff: Read this:
(http://razzball.com/david-ortiz-2009-fantasy-schmohawk/)
@deepee: He’s the bubble guy, yeah. I’d say drop Zimmermann straight away right now, but it would be nice to see what he does first before you drop a potentially worthwhile guy for a bench guy. Though, I do think Zimmermann will probably be the way to go, even if he throws a shutout.
Just wondering if Brandon Wood is being called up? As CBS put a post that he might be called by this week….
@p0rk burn: haha, my bad dude, I meant “thanks pork burn” lol. I did appreciate that advice. I apologize!
@Billy: I sure hope so since he’s my starting Corner guy in my AL-Only league.
papi and pedroia break out today,masterson gts the job well done
Just read an interesting article on Rotoexperts.com…it discusses “Buying High and Selling Low” and as counter-intuitive as it sounds, it makes a lot of sense. Any thoughts?
http://rotoexperts.com/content/view/2721/76/
@ Griff, I’m a Sox fan and an Ortiz owner. Papi took his deep breath the other day after his 0-fer when he K’ed a couple times with the bags full. He’s looked much better the last couple games, staying on balls and looking to go away. His bat speed is not there on inside heaters still, but I’d give him a while before you chalk that up to permanent loss. To me it’s looked more like he’s been pressing – he’s been down in counts practically every AB this season, looking deuce when a FB comes, looking FB when a change comes, etc. If you own him, keep him benched but pay attention over the next few days.
Wood is coming up. The Angels are reeling, Quilan and Isturiz in the 3rd hole the last 2 days, that cannot last. Grey, I asked you yesterday if you prefer Chipper Jones or Chris Davis, you really think I should cancel the trade and keep Davis? The re-emergance of Andruw Jones can only hurt the playing time of Davis.
Derek Holland got called up this weekend? Any thoughtson his value grey?
@Billy: Buy Miggy and sell Brian Giles? Ok.
@Den: Reemergence? It’s two weeks into the season. Jones might be okay here and there, but Blalock will get injured, Jones will fail and Davis will hit home runs. They’re basically apples for apples, so you go whichever one you feel more comfortable with. Jones is steady as they come (for better or worse) and Davis has much upside.
@ABell: In the bullpen right now, but the Rangers starters are really bad. He’s terrific and worth a flier if he gets starts, just wish he didn’t play his home games in Arlington.
Grey – help me out. I am on the fence.
I was just offered A-Rod for Carlos Lee & Hart. My 3B is currently Teahen, and I would still have Beltran and Braun in the OF.
Am I giving up too much there?
@Falcon: It’s too much.
@grey: what’s the maximum value you think i can flip hot ibanez for right now? to a struggling team for kemp? it’s not worth grabbing a fifth-round outfielder like a mclouth because ibanez will probably outperform, right?
what is chris davis’ value right now? Travis Snider? Derrek Lee?
@ Grey: at this point would you drop either Corpas or Hanrahan for Percival and succome to a season long Brain Freeze?
@sean: If you can get Kemp for Ibanez, more power to you. I’d want McLouth over Ibanez, but it’s a bit apples for apples.
@Zebo: Davis is better than either of those guys.
@zombie: Nope
Would you drop Elvis Andrus for Jose Lopez? An owner just dropped him.
rudy,cool sit the master standings(ive not had many at all inning pitched)when i get a few barring some wang moments i will climb up the ladder of greatness a bit,,i couldnt post a message on that site a minute ago so i posted here,to all involved in razzball,great job and thanks a million
@Grey: What are some guys to target for Davis or do we just need to sit pat to he gets going?
Kemp, Holliday, or beltran in order
@I’m Keith Hernandez: i think we have to stand pat as his value is at a all time low, we should have traded him before the season started…
@Billy: I am trying to pair him with a closer like Qualls to get Aramis.
@Martin: kemp,beltran,holliday i would think,kemps upside seems bigger,betran usually 270-275 hitter 25-30 hr and sb`s,
@Grey: I have Morneau and Felipe. Thinking about offring the trade. Would move Votto to first and Lind to Util.
@Eric: If you don’t need Andrus’s speed, and could use Lopez moderate power. I’d probably hold tight though.
@AL KOHOLIC: You’re in the wrong thread. Hopefully, you’re not driving today.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I’d want Aramis over him.
@Martin: Beltran, Kemp then Holliday. But they’re all close.
@Steve: Ah, then I like it slightly more for you.
@Grey: @AL KOHOLIC: Ha!
No, you can’t comment under Rudy’s thread, I tried. Wanted to brag about my 48th place standing, but alas, I’m merely average, story of my life.
@BigFatHippo: Oh. Fixed now.
@BigFatHippo: With me breathing down your neck!
@Grey: @Steve: Hey Grey, while we have your attention:
Shields/Damon for Dunn/Franklin
One team needed power and saves the other needed steals/avg/wins.
Who won? I say it’s even-steven.
@BigFatHippo: I’d prefer the Shields side, but it’s fair.
@Grey: Damn, knew you’d say that!
Curse you Steve, you should have taken Meche.
Trade was just offered to me. I get Krod and Ellsbury but give up Markakis and and Javy vazquez.
12 team w slug% and holds, my team is sandoval, Votto, Kinsler, Zimmerman, Soriano, Markakis, beltran, Kemp, Hawpe, Lind, ian Stewart
Pitchers, Cain, Greinke, Billingsley, broxton, Gregg, Aardsma, josh Johnson, Hanrahan and vaquez
do i do this?
@BigFatHippo: @Grey: And let us not forget what obtaining Shields allowed me to do elsewhere.
10 points’ worth according to Point Shares…
@Steve: you trying to bring our league leader down to us a bit,trades not bad,but i hate to see you get shields
@AL KOHOLIC: I wish.
It’s a trade in the RCL.
@BigFatHippo: Hehe
@ButchHuskey: Nice username.
Ugh, empirically I’d prefer Markakis and Vazquez, but you really need K-Rod and Ellsbury more than the other two guys. It’s a really tough call, but I say you decline it, then try and get a closer and a speed guy in a different way. Such as off waivers or with a lesser trade, i.e., Vazquez for Bonifacio and Qualls.
oh,good trade then for both,i gotta get some inning pitched,hammels 9 innings so far,peavy danks bedard and zimm,plus stashing hanson and hoping asap
@Steve: Neverevereverever. He goes nowhere in our keeper.
Obviously I have enough power there.
Thank you…funny you should mention that since the team I am dealing with has Qualls.
Thanks for the help
Will there be any games tonight?!!! I want some friggin beisbol!
@Grey: What are your thoughts on Felipe Paulino and Derrek Holland? Chances of either being an impact SP in a 15 team mixed league (I’m aware Holland is currently in middle relief)?
Also, Fontenot vs. Ellis in a vacuum?
Finally, better chance of getting saves – Hawkins, Madson, Saito, Casilla, Devine, Beimal, Mock, Lyon? Please give top 3. Thanks.
@ButchHuskey: Trust Grey, everything he writes is the truth.
According to Bill Maher, everything you write on the internet is the truth unless you attach an LOL at the end.
Grey never LOL’s.
@ButchHuskey: Thanks for the memories, Butch!
@Harley: I like Paulino better because of the opportunity there is currently better. In a league that deep, he’s worth a flier.
Fontenot
Casilla, Lyon, Hawkins
@BigFatHippo: I know the truth, long time lurker 3rd time poster.
@Prince: I plan on sponsoring his Baseball-reference page as soon a sit drops to 5 dollars
Another OF start of Ian Stewart!
@BigFatHippo: Ha! Comment was in reference to bringing you back to the pack. Fairly happy with my pitching tho – Peavy, Beckett, Cain, Jobacum, Harang, Cueto, Wolf, Guthrie, E-Jax and Ervin is decent enough.
have to drop one of the following, Randy, Wandy and Lilly. I have 7 starters plus Carp on the DL need to go down one.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Why not try to trade Randy after his start yesterday? None of those guys should be dropped.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I’m watching the Keith Hernandez Seinfeld as we speak.
@BigFatHippo: I got Wandy and Lilly off waivers and no one wants Randy.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Randy
@ButchHuskey – That’s great! My buddy and I were fans when he was in Boston. One of those fringe guys it was just great having around.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Why do you HAVE to drop one? Getting another waived player?
@BigFatHippo: I wanted to pick up Lyon off waivers and I am racking up innings (only 1250 innings limit)
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Ask Grey if you should drop Randy for Lyon, I’m not sure that’s a good move. Innings be damned.
@Grey: I acknowledge your passion for Wandy. My no hitter question was about Felipe, little mixup
Any thoughts on Yadier Molina as an option at Catcher in deeper leagues?
@Chase: Ah… Gotcha. Yeah, I should’ve actually mentioned him, that’s my bad.
@Wombaty: I’m not a fan. I’d prefer a .260 average and 15 HRs from Inannetta than his .300 empty average, but if it fits for your team, I can see it.
spilly is out of the starting lineup again tonight and burrell is taking his time warming up. should i drop one of these guys for ian stewart or dexter fowler and hope that one of them becomes an every day player?
@Grey: You should seriously watch Yadi’s at bats, he gives a good one every time and NEVER strikes out.
In certain leagues that’s very valuable, dropped Salty for him, his Ks were killing me.
Ambitious prediction for Yadi, 80 rbi, .300, 12 hr.
Any chance the Braves and the Nats get under way?
@Steve: Hope so, I got both pitchers, badly needed stats, hope they’re good ones.
Rainouts have killed me.
Hey Grey. Discovered the site this offseason and love it!
What are your long term thoughts on Snider, Fowler and Lind for a keeper league?
What has everyone done or not about Maybin? I read some quotes that sounded encouraging. Basically, he needs to be less aggressive because an 8th place hitter doesn’t get many solid pitches (the pitcher is next). This has given me some hope since it shows a willingness to adjust. Fowler?
@nick m.: Spilly, Fowler and Stewart are all sharing time. You’re trading apples for apples.
@BigFatHippo: Homer!
@Dexter: Fowler has most upside then Snider then Lind. Fowler can be a 30/30 guy in his prime. Snider can be a premiere slugger and Lind’s older and has Ludwick upside. Lind is also the best for this season. Good question!
@James: I’m watching today and he looks awful. I may have to advise chucking Maybin soon. He looks lost.
@BigFatHippo: im sure im only 1 of many waiting to see what zimm can do,if the game is ppd only hope they dont skip another of his starts,but at 1-10 i think its time to see
@Grey – Yes, he looked awful on that 2nd AB.
***Who saw the Ortiz double and triple? Fenway aided or lined shots?
@Grey: Doh!
“but in a singsong voice” You’ll be sorry………
@AL KOHOLIC: Yeah, could be postponed again. Would make 2, and his next start shaky cause of nerves after having to wait so long. I think Mother Nature hates me, maybe for pissing on all her golf courses??????????
Ortiz triple was off left center field wall, just over Pie’s glove and it caromed back towards cf. Didn’t see his double. What is more astounding is Varitek’s 3rd homer of the season, even though he looks awful in every other at bat besides those 3.
@Grey: Pop fly triple hit the monster, an out in any other ballpark, didn’t see the double.
@Dexter: @BigFatHippo: Thanks!
does hampton have any shot of a mussina-like resurgence? his breaking pitches are sharp and down in the zone…
Sweet!
The game in Washington has started, Mother Nature granted a pass. I promise not to piss on any more golf courses.
Hey Cody Ross or Kelly Shoppach. I can possibly add them both and platoon but I dont want to have to drop another player for one of them.
@BigFatHippo: ortiz,hey when your hitting 170,any hit is a shot,and hippo,i dont think mother nature liked us taking our ex wives to the 18th green at 3 a.m either,oh the good ole days
nevermind, i though cody ross played catcher!
@AL KOHOLIC: Hahaha!
Nor me and the Beverage Bimbo on the 14th on Colonial at dusk. The neighbors are still having nightmares………………good times, good times.
@BigFatHippo: or,never mind,im getting to old to be thinking of those days,back when ciggs were 2 bucks the girls young and firm and the booze cheap and very well abused,now i get my rocks off with fantasy baseball
What are the nats thinking giving zimmerman an extension. Just what a young player needs, a big contract. Now he really has to prove himself!
Drop Stephen Drew or Daniel Murphy to pick up Nelson Cruz?
Also, try to trade Abreu\Lohse for Haren?
Iannetta’s on fire!
@Steve: batting .120 now,,just wandering if spillbourghs will get going,playing would be a start but we knew thet would be rotating of`s up there
Lowe is teatering on the brink of fail
@cubbies299: Never mind. My Ryan Zimmerman got him out of trouble.
Why does it seem like the Rockies are just going with Fowler and Stewart now? The keep getting playing time. I love that they’re giving at-bats to the most talented dudes on the roster, but is this going to last? (Please say yes or I’ll cry)
Late to the commenting, but the Big Papi triple was more Felix Pie-aided than Fenway-aided. Should have been caught. I’m still glad I traded him the other day… he looked lost on most of his other swings.
@sean: Bleh
@Martin: That’s David Ross.
@Jonny: Drop Murphy for Cruz. I like that trade for Haren.
@Tom: Yes
@Eephus: Thanks!
If anyone is around I need some quick trade advice in the trade forum.
I almost got Granderson and Carlos Lee for Holliday/Werth/ and Zimmerman. So i need to adjust it quick, damn Carlos Lee hit a homer tonight!
@Grey: Ohlendorf?
Feel free to answer in round-up tomorrow.
I searched his name and only found a vintage joke from last season about Ohlendorf vs. Oh-who-gives-a-dorf.
That’s time-release comedy, right there.
Anyone else with ideas for me question in the trade forum? If not I am going to bed, night all
offering heath bell for elijah dukes (as my fifth outfielder in the UTIL spot)
I have too much pitching and need either a 3B or OF…am I shooting too low or is my aim on?
also skimming through the comments, I didn’t see anybody mention that Kemp actually batted in the 5 spot on saturday…thought it would be a sign of things to come but come to find out it was just cause furcal and martin were resting
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Actually yes… Someone in our league just offered me some combination of Fielder for my Beltran. I think if I throw in a little, I can get Pat Burrel too, as the owner isn’t very high on him. This is perfect, as I have Laroche at 1B. However, I don’t know if I can spare the steals. This is my team. Does this help? (14-team mixed w/ holds/ops)
C: Ianetta
1B: Laroche
2B: Bri Rob
SS: Tulo
3B: Wright
OF: Quentin
OF: Beltran
OF: Kemp
Util: Hawpe
Util: Chrisby
BN: Fred Lewis/ Gordon (not long for my team)
SP: Kazmir/Vazquez/Lowe/Weaver/Verlander/Baker/Wang (not long for my team)/
(Price in minors)
CL: Corpas/Rivera
SU: Blisario/Holland
DL: Kelvim/Zumaya
Can I spare the steals to do this trade? Also, are there any glaring weaknesses you think I should look to address?
If Ian Stewart becomes an everyday starter, does he become a more valuable backup than Mark Reynolds (Not to mention he’s 2b/3b eligible)?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ha! I forgot that one. Nice. Okay, will address him.
@danimal35: Shooting a bit low. I’d go for Cruz or Hawpe.
@cubbies299: You can spare the steals. Your pitching’s a little jenky.
@Frank Rizzo: Stewart’s value comes from being 2nd base eligible.
I hope youre wrong about Perkins, Grey…
On a side note, I am playing this hit streak game with the guys at work. Won the first round with 11 straight calls. Carlos Lee today was my first pick of round two… ding!
PS Loving the jenky.
Alright, I know I’ve asked a variation of this question before .. forgive me, or ignore it. Trying to add Alexei and Peralta (it may not happen, due to waiver order), should I try to replace Hendrick/Scutaro, or Hendrick/Dukes (and bench Alexei until his BA picks up). My total BA right now is last in the league, which is why I’m concerned. That said, if Dukes goes, Bruce steps in, and we know where he’s at with BA …
@Prince: Kendrick? I’d lose him and Scutaro.
Yeah, Kendrick. I’m tired. Last question: how the hell do you answer so many questions a day? Many thanks …
@cubbies299: @Grey: Should I make some trades to nab a closer now or do you think I can rest on my laurels and let my offense continue ravaging the nonbelievers or should I trade some of it now? It’s roto/holds, so I feel like, at the least, with only 2 closers, I can nab some holds while I’m not getting saves.
