watching the pre-game for yankee game & saw a quote from Greinke “I pitch terrible here. Not terrible, but really really terrible.” I gotta bench him now, he’s coming into this stadium knowing he is going to fail.
@BigFatHippo: Harang does seem done in every league.
@Steve: Well, you won’t get Ks, but Suppan’s the safest, Morton would have some more K upside, Padilla’s not starting tomorrow from what I’m looking at.
@Grey: Yeah, saw that about Padilla after I posted. Have gone for Suppan and Morton having already grabbed Gio.
Am adapting my relievers-only strategy a bit this week, obviously
@Grey: Up 6-1 in Saves and 3-0 in Holds, but a million behind in ERA and WHIP. Also in with a chance of taking Wins and Ks so just throwing the dregs out there to see what happens. Might win a couple of categories I’ve virtually punted this year.
Going OK, too – a win from de la Rosa yesterday and Anibal (thanks Grey!) and Petit are looking good today.
@Grey: Currently 6th, but an 8-3 or so should get me to fourth but it’s tight from 3rd to about 7th.
If I can get to the playoffs when the margin of victory doesn’t matter I will hopefully be tough to beat
I have a leaguemate who is sick of Rollins and wants Atkins back. I am thinking of asking for Rollins/Beckett and giving Atkins/Tulo. If you think that will be vetoed than what about simply Tulo/Atkins for Beckett?
I have to strike while the frustration is high because he historically gets cold feet.
JD Drew just got injured and he will probably be out for a few days. He has also been really cold lately so Im thinking bout dropping him. Should I do it? And if I did do it how would you rank these OF’s.
Randy Winn, Casey Blake, Delmon Young, kubel, mike cameron, byrd, lastings milledge, jody gerut, wigginton
who could you narrow it down to like the top 3 or 4
thanks in advance
No, I pick him up every year at the end of the season and he smokes it like wakeNbake. You can plug him in any weak position and he’ll outperform any option you got, trust me.
This week alone, 9 Runs, 3 HRs, 9 RBI, .560 avg.
Not to mention the homer he hit today. Make it 4.
Name one outfielder that can top that. I play him at MI, sweet.
Did you see it? Beckett and Harang were at dinner together last night and whatever advice Harang was offering – Beckett believed him like I did. 8 runs in 2.1 innings!?
Like I said in the RCL – why this karma?
Throw Harang and Carmona out there because it has to get better. Harang’s shitty night is still sitting in my nose like the smell of a dead carcass. Carmona was respectable
Sit back relax, throw Beckett today against the Jays. Holy shit he doesn’t even make it through three innings.
Rustic and I will be fluffing the pillows in basement while the rest of you play.
june 9th, gave up ludwick and byrnes(who other owner eventually dropped) to get alex rios
at that time all the “perts” were saying sell high on ludwick and buy low on rios and now im kinda regrettin’ it. Rios is hitting pretty good but way less power from last season but he has more sb.
@BSA: “Beckett and Harang were at dinner together last night” — Ha
@wassup: Ludwick is a fair trade you just got different piece. Rather than a HR guy, you got a steal guy. There’s still time for Rios to have a hot month and a half (fingers crossed).
@Grey: Well, two heads are always better than one. BigFatHippo has me interested enough to check out some of Wigginton’s split stats. What’s your take?
I need some douche utility waiver type to plug in on a weekly basis who will produce.
@SaltyBiscuits: Wiggington is hot right now. Is he the power speed threat of Cameron, Milledge or Young? Nope. He’s a solid (for now) MI or 2nd baseman.
@Grey: A thousand apologies – should have just asked you this in the first place. How do you rank Dickerson, Span and Gomez if you’re lookng for a speedy bench guy?
@Steve: I’d put Dickerson as the most risk/upside cause the least is known about him by other teams, Span seems to have the best skill set for a leadoff man (high OBP), but less speed than Gomez. As a part-time fill-in type who only plays on Mondays or Thursday or when someone is hurt, I go Gomez because he’s the biggest speed threat, but he may not play every day. So he’s the least interesting every day play out of those three.
@Grey: Perfect. It’s a fill-in or an I’m-behind-in-steals-this-week kind of guy that I’m after, so Gomez it is.
I’ve just traded Rios away for Burrell so want a bit of SB insurance.
My trading him away is clearly the reason he is now red-hot.
You’re welcome
@Grey: He’s caused me a lot of grief this year. I was always keen on him and wanted to draft him but BJ Upton had slipped to the end of the 3rd round but then got taken ONE SPOT in front of me. So I took Rios and have spent all season trying to fill a black hole at 2B. Would have been nice to get Upton and then have grabbed someone like McLouth off the wire.
Rios’ steals have been great, but the rest of his stats have been a bit of a drain over the season.
He’s dead to me now though.

I have Greinke & Baker today. Not really good choices but who should I start. Right now I have Greinke starting and Baker benched.
I’m in 5th/8th in all pitching categories.
August 16th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Also I’m +2.0 on IP so maybe 1 starter today would suffice with Guthrie & Sabathia going in 2 days.
August 16th, 2008 at 9:54 am
watching the pre-game for yankee game & saw a quote from Greinke “I pitch terrible here. Not terrible, but really really terrible.” I gotta bench him now, he’s coming into this stadium knowing he is going to fail.
August 16th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Brilliant application of dipity. Thanks…
August 16th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Dipity?! I am not computer illiterate and I have not heard of it. Impressive Grey, but now no more claiming to be computer illiterate.
August 16th, 2008 at 10:24 am
& Greinke starts by striking out the side. FUCK
August 16th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Continues in the fourth by getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs with ARod and Giambi coming up. Impressive!
August 16th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
@BSA: I know, being a Met fan I don’t like the Yankees but I hate to see my bench do work
August 16th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Hey I sat Cueto Thursday. Looks like Cano dinged him for a big one. Which Pudge shows up at the plate?
August 16th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
WILD PITCH to lose the lead!?!?!?!
@peter: Yeah, my webmaster showed it to me. Pretty cool, huh?
@Nick: BTW, sorry, I was out all day. Just got back. Hope you made the right choices.
August 16th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
@Grey:
As did I Grey.
And yes, made the right choice by NOT starting Harang. Actually he kinda makes the choice for ya doesn’t he?
Harang vs. College of Charleston FBB Alumni?
No way I’m starting him.
August 16th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Horrible choices all, but who ya like?
Padilla v Rays
Morton v SF
Suppan @ LAD
A win and some Ks would be nice…
August 16th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Adam Wainwright update.
2 hits, 0 runs, 6 Ks through 4 innings at Springfield so far. 55 pitches.
He’ll probably have one more rehab start then back to the starting rotation with the Carp injury.
Wish I wouldn’t have traded Perez to Doc.
@BigFatHippo: Harang does seem done in every league.
@Steve: Well, you won’t get Ks, but Suppan’s the safest, Morton would have some more K upside, Padilla’s not starting tomorrow from what I’m looking at.
August 16th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
@Grey: Yeah, saw that about Padilla after I posted. Have gone for Suppan and Morton having already grabbed Gio.
Am adapting my relievers-only strategy a bit this week, obviously
@Steve: Yeah, noticed you were starting starters. What’s that all about?
August 16th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
@Grey: Up 6-1 in Saves and 3-0 in Holds, but a million behind in ERA and WHIP. Also in with a chance of taking Wins and Ks so just throwing the dregs out there to see what happens. Might win a couple of categories I’ve virtually punted this year.
Going OK, too – a win from de la Rosa yesterday and Anibal (thanks Grey!) and Petit are looking good today.
August 16th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Alright call me stupid for giving Harang another shot. Then again Fausto showed up.
Hey Hippo, did you start CG Halladay tonight?
@Steve: Gotcha, that’s what I figured. What place are you in?
August 16th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
@Grey: Currently 6th, but an 8-3 or so should get me to fourth but it’s tight from 3rd to about 7th.
If I can get to the playoffs when the margin of victory doesn’t matter I will hopefully be tough to beat
August 16th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
@BSA:
You betcha.
Mother Nature cooled off the Sawx yesterday, made my decision for me.
@Grey:
Thus ends the debate.
Will I ever sit Halladay? The answer is no, once again you’re right.
15 point lead BTW, sweet.
August 16th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Can I drop Harang now?
August 16th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
For those owners who weren’t sure about Braun’s health, he had a pinch hit double in the 8th and stayed in the game to play left field.
August 16th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
the bags under harangs eyes are really aids lesions.
August 16th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
@Denys: I just did if it makes u feel any better about it.
@Denys: I don’t think you can start him, so, yeah, I think he’s droppable in any league — 12 team or shallower.
August 17th, 2008 at 4:13 am
I have a leaguemate who is sick of Rollins and wants Atkins back. I am thinking of asking for Rollins/Beckett and giving Atkins/Tulo. If you think that will be vetoed than what about simply Tulo/Atkins for Beckett?
I have to strike while the frustration is high because he historically gets cold feet.
August 17th, 2008 at 5:08 am
Edit: I have Davis and Alexei as backup. I sent Tulo/Atkins/Wells for Beckett/Rollins.
@BSA: “I sent Tulo/Atkins/Wells for Beckett/Rollins.” — That’s a solid trade for you.
August 17th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
JD Drew just got injured and he will probably be out for a few days. He has also been really cold lately so Im thinking bout dropping him. Should I do it? And if I did do it how would you rank these OF’s.

@wassup: I’d go with Young, Cameron, Milledge, Gerut, Byrd…
August 17th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
@wassup:
Wassup
Check out Wigginton’s #s this month and career #s in September.
He’s playing every day now with The Horse out.
Shake, stir, stick an umbrella in it if you want, but enjoy the ride.
@BigFatHippo: Are you officially signed on as Wiggington’s agent?
August 17th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
@Grey:
Ha
I wish.
No, I pick him up every year at the end of the season and he smokes it like wakeNbake. You can plug him in any weak position and he’ll outperform any option you got, trust me.

August 17th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
So your saying drop Drew for ne of those 5 outfielders you named?
@BigFatHippo: Yeah, he’s been on fire.
@wassup: You got a great June out of Drew. I’d be happy with that and move on to one of the other guys.
August 17th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
thanks for the help
August 17th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
@Grey:
3 for 4 today.
All 3 of Houston’s RBIs in a 3-0 win.
I took out a personals ad, went something like this:
“Big Phat Hippo seeking white hot middle infielder for month and a half relationship”
He answered it with a dinger, give him some love Grey.
August 17th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Carlos Pena is 4/21 this week. But guess what all four hits are?
August 17th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I dropped Drew for Wigginton. I looked at his recent stats and he is on fire!! and his september stats in his career are appealing too.
@Steve: Bong hits?
@wassup: @BigFatHippo: Hippo’s converted another.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
@Grey: Could well be. But I’ll take 4 homers a week from now til the end of the season.
Add me to the Wiggy fan club – he’s filling an empty spot for me tomorrow. Worth hanging on to for a bit, do you think?
August 17th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
@Grey: @wassup:
Join me, we’ll drink the Kool Aid and enjoy the ride.
Was Jim Jones That Made This Happen!
@Steve:
I’m guessing it wasn’t bunts.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Do the Phillies hate Cole Hamels?
Score some fricken runs for him fercrissakes………………..
@BigFatHippo: Especially since I have Baek going for me in Razzball. Maybe the ball’s getting camouflaged on the way to the plate in his uniform.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
@Grey:
Ha
No shit, he could sneak up on a deer and peg him between the eyes with that shirt.
Offseason, he’d be poaching.
Probably get thrown out of the woods, along with his manager.
August 17th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Did you see it? Beckett and Harang were at dinner together last night and whatever advice Harang was offering – Beckett believed him like I did. 8 runs in 2.1 innings!?

@BSA:
HeHe
Pillow Up Cuddle Boys
Don’t worry, I’m joining you soon.
August 17th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Quick one- Who won this trade?
june 9th, gave up ludwick and byrnes(who other owner eventually dropped) to get alex rios
at that time all the “perts” were saying sell high on ludwick and buy low on rios and now im kinda regrettin’ it. Rios is hitting pretty good but way less power from last season but he has more sb.
Did I get ripped off?
August 17th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Drop Guzman to acquire Omar Infante or Stephen Drew and why.
thanks in advance
August 17th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
@BigFatHippo: don’t talk to me about joining us. you’re still around thirty points ahead of me and you haven’t had two nights in a row with 18+ ERAs.
This is when it is hard not to quit.
August 17th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
‘ello friends.
Delmon Young, Mike Cameron, Ty Wigginton, Jeff Kent for Util spot next week. Hod ya rank em? This in terms of next week production only.
Thanks
August 17th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Heh I just saw about 10 posts up the same exact question I just asked. Whooopsie
@BSA: “Beckett and Harang were at dinner together last night” — Ha
@wassup: Ludwick is a fair trade you just got different piece. Rather than a HR guy, you got a steal guy. There’s still time for Rios to have a hot month and a half (fingers crossed).
Go with Drew.
@SaltyBiscuits: You’re good then?
August 17th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Better spot start tomorrow?
Buehrle vs. Seattle
Blackburn vs. Oakland
August 17th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
@Grey: With reference to the Cheap Steals post, are those guys listed in order of (your) preference?
August 17th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
@Grey: Well, two heads are always better than one. BigFatHippo has me interested enough to check out some of Wigginton’s split stats. What’s your take?
