Jeff Francis just got dropped in my league….think hes a good pickup for the rest of the way? Id probably drop Justin Duchscherer for him, although hes given me 2 very quality starts so far. I refuse to drop Rich Hill as I may be in denial.

@Grey: Thanks for the insight. I was watching Cain pitch against Pittsburgh today and despite the managerial blunders (not taking him out in the 7th) he looked very hittable. It's almost as if he doesn't have faith that he'll get the W, even when he's ahead. He rarely got up to 95 mph... I still have to believe he's a little bothered by his hammy and still a gamble until he can put together two nice starts back to back.

I know there’s a lot of Greinke Love around here, but if you had to roll with one of the following, who would it be?

Hudson
Saunders

I’ve got Greinke and Wainwright at the top, Cain and Hudson holding steady below, Marcum and Saunders falling and Cueto as the giant question mark.

Just curious since I usually see these names floating around each other, and I hate trading pitching for pitching.

Greinke is god. I’m sick of the statheads who say that Greinke’s success is a “mirage” due to BABIP. I’m not sure that can be dignified with comment. The dude deals. (I think that statheads undervalue the groundball guys, and Greinke can force groundballs.) But look at these K/BB ratios:

Greinke 36/12
McGowan 34/17

It’s like a 3-D picture. (“Oh yeah, I see it now.”) I actually really like Dustin, and I think he’s about to bust out, but Greinke is also for real. Oh yeah, he’s got more wins and a lower ERA playing for a lesser team. Buy.

OK – last one. What about JC Romero? Word was he was just lucky last year, but he’s been good this year too. Lefty specialist, so won’t get quite as mch work, I guess. And while I’m on Phillies, if Ryan Howard hits .265-.270 and 40-45 HR, the rest of the season should be pretty torrid. Question is – will he make those numbers? Not easy watching your #1 pick hit .165…

I’m astounded by your “Angel Heart” reference (and thanks for not saying bloody cock). I didn’t think anyone really liked that movie, let alone remembered it like 20 years later. I loved that flick so much I used a bloody chicken foot on my girlfriend for like 6 months. God, Lisa Bonet was so hot back in the day.
BTW, today Grasshopper dropped Mr. Wolf and picked up Ludwick on your say-so (and his two solo jacks tonite). That means my R. Hill fiasco (which has been exponentially worsened by my B. Myers fiasco) is now R. Ludwick. Be nice to turn that shit to sugar…

@Steve: Wow, your bench is too stacked with hitters. Why don't you trade or drop some of them? I'd get rid of Cust if he hasn't hit another home run by Sunday. Not a huge fan of Cameron b/c of his average. I dropped Milledge in the first week of the season and haven't regretted it yet. I've also dropped Neshek in a lot of leagues, but with the elbow issues, he sounds absolutely droppable now. I'd grab Nunez.

Grey – Sounds like Neshek’s arm is about to fly off at the elbow. Thus I need another of my beloved MRs.

There are reasonable enough options – Nunez (SP eligible!), Juan Cruz, Embree, Speier etc.

I could just drop Neshek cold but I’d like an opinion on a hitter to drop. A lot of guys sitting on the bench doing not much:

Do I need Cameron and Melky? My starting OFs are Rios, Markakis, Hawpe and Crawford.

@IowaCubs: Nice analogy with Tila Tequila, I will try and use that some time. And I know how you feel. All of my leagues are like that. That's why I try and tell you guys just about every day about players like Casilla and Fuentes and Qualls and Mota and Riske and etc. Don't punt saves. Puts too much pressure on other categories. Just raise the bar as to who you go after. Blowrowski is too risky.

Maybe you guys could do a post someday on fantasy players like this. I'm beginning to feel like it's not worth it and I might just punt the category and trade my closers (Putz, Ryan) mid season for steals or a big bat.
