Johan & Wright Plus 8
Okay, now picture you’re a Mets fan who was in a coma for three months and you just looked at the starting lineup. You’d be like, “Jeremy who? Cora what? Tatis huh? Why are the Mets playing a split squad game in June?” Um, yeah. Listen, Comatose Mets fan, you might want to sit down. Carlos Beltran hit the DL yesterday with a sore knee. The Mets are saying Beltran should be back in two weeks. Yeah, and Reyes will be back three weeks ago. At this point, you really can’t do anything but wait for Beltran to return. Hopefully, there’s some decent outfielders on waivers for you to grab in the interim. I grabbed David Murphy and Jonny “Hey, Khalil give me back my H” Gomes. Gomes should be the Reds DH for interleague so he should get starts for a week, then I’ll need to look elsewhere. Jake Fox is a decent play in interleague, as well. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Ervin Santana – Went to the Disgraceful List. No way! Come on! Really? Shocker!
Scott Kazmir – Solid rehab outing where he didn’t walk anyone. Might need one or two more rehab starts then should be back.
Alex Gonzalez – Had bone chips removed yesterday and will be out for a month. Hopefully the doctor had more success in removing those chips than Gonzalez has had hitting baseballs.
Grady Sizemore – Says he’ll be ready to return today. Better get out your “I Heart Grady,” t-shirt.
Yunel Escobar – Out with a strained hip flexor. This could totally cramp his shuffleboard game. Yunel dealt with this earlier in the year and it sidelined him for a week, so he might miss some time.
Josh Outman – Has elbow tightness and is, um, out, man.
Trevor Cahill – 7 IP, 1 ER. Turned in a good outing in what was a good matchup.
Aaron Cook – 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners. So far he’s had two games all year that were terrible. Sometimes safe works.
Matt Palmer – 4 2/3 IP, 6 ER. Palmer? I hardly knew her! Oofa! So far I’ve said about Palmer, “I wouldn’t touch him in 12 team leagues,” “Before you get crazy with yourself, he’s a thirty-year-old rookie and he’s not Dennis Quaid,” and “Who’s Matt Palmer? A soap opera actor?” And that’s me quoting me! So you kinda get the sense of what I’m thinking about Palmer going forward.
Ryan Ludwick – Second homer in the last four games. Your time to buy low on him may be running out.
Daniel Murphy – HR yesterday. Batting around .350 for the last week. Let’s not be delusional that he’s going to completely fill-in for Beltran on your fantasy team, but maybe he can give you one hot week then find someone else next week. Pick and troll.
Rafael Soriano – Got the save yesterday with Gonzalez taking care of lefties in the 8th. Soriano has 45 Ks in 32 2/3 IP, .98 WHIP and a 1.38 ERA. Um, that’s pretty good.
Albert Pujols – Reports say he called his shot on Sunday. Would that be an HGH shot?
Joey Votto – Set to return on Tuesday, saying he felt batty, but in a good way.

Who are some righty-killers to potentially platoon David Murphy with?
June 23rd, 2009 at 3:33 am
just traded my Sparkakis for Alfonso Soriano, think this trade is cool? which side would you like to be on?
June 23rd, 2009 at 3:50 am
Someone in my league inexplicably just dropped Bedard onto waivers (for Smoltz?). Want to try and pick him up. Who to drop? Options are Hanson, Floyd, Nolasco or C.J. Wilson (but that would leave me with only Qualls and Franklin until Downs returns). Not sure how much longer Wilson will be getting saves anyway.
June 23rd, 2009 at 4:10 am
ughhhhhhhhhh! what a title…haha
June 23rd, 2009 at 4:43 am
@Elbert: i’d want markakis. soriano is way banged up. markakis is just in a bit of a slump, has traditionally been a 2nd half player, and, perhaps most importantly, isn’t banged up.
June 23rd, 2009 at 4:55 am
@Elbert – I’d take Sparkakis, especially in a keeper league.
@ScoutAbout – I think FFran will be back and better than ever, like that poodle with a mohawk. I’d dump Wilson. Otherwise Floyd, Nolasco, Hanson in that order. IMHO.
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:22 am
I’m gonna take a wild guess and say Hanson should not be started against the Yankees tonight. Any objections?
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:27 am
I have an interesting offer on the table…I would be dealing away Roy Oswalt to acquire Mike Gonzalez and Kerry Wood.
To give you a little background on my closer situation, Aardmsa is my only reliable closer (as Frasor and Macdougal don’t qualify).
I’m nearly certain that I will accept this offer, but some feedback would be much appreciated.
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:39 am
With Votto coming off the DL, I’m in a bit of a dilemma: currently have Berkman at 1st, the Cuban Missile at 2nd, and the Zo at SS with Uggla sitting on the bench. I could put Votto at Util, bench Soriano, and move J. Upton into Soriano’s OF slot, but I still either need to drop someone or trade. This is a 10 team H2H league, hence the logjam of legit players. Any quick trade advice, or should I just cut someone?
C: McCann
1st: Berkman
2nd: Cuban Missile
3rd: Chipper
SS: the Zo
OF: Soriano
OF: A. Jones
OF: H. Pence
Util: J Upton
BN: Uggla
DL: Votto
SP: Haren, Vazquez, Oswalt, Slowey, Harang (2 on the bench at any time)
RP: Rivera, Qualls
P: Bailey, T. Hoffman, R. Franklin
DL: Downs
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:44 am
@Influawesome: I take it that’s Adam Jones and now Andruw…would be a much easier decision lol. I’d send out feelers on Soriano see what you can get for him. Otherwise I’d stand pat and leave Votto on the DL (if you can) and make sure he has everything figured out.
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:57 am
I picked up Erv Santana when another owner dropped him. Now I see it may have been a good move to drop him.
Would dropping Erv Santana for Aaron Cook be a good move? I don’t have room on my DL for Erv.
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:58 am
Starting Scherzer and Jimenez tonight. UNLESS someone gives me a solid reason not too. They’ve both been pretty hot lately.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:27 am
@Timsti: I’m going with Scherzer (and Zambrano) tonight. I pared down my pitching staff to studs (Peavy [whoops], Vazquez), solid guys (Zambrano, Baker, and Slowey), and high-upside (Scherzer, J Zimmerman). Now I almost never skip a start, I just roll with everyone, and I figure enduring the occasional blow-up is worth never missing a gem.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:31 am
John Danks at home vs. LAD: start or sit?
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:32 am
I only have 3 starters this week and we have a max of 7 starts. So I’m walking through the minefield that is spot starting 4 waiver dudes. Yesterday Trever Cahill got the rock and produced nicely – I went with Mazzaro for tonight over Liriano @ Mil, Penny @ Was, Suppan @ Min and that’s really all that’s worth while. Mazzaro has looked good thus far but I have a feling tonight is going to be the standard 5 earned in 4.2 IP.
Someone calm my nerves and tell me it’s gonna be alright
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:35 am
Also of note – Javy had an anti-Javy start last night, scattering 9 hits & 2 walks, allowing no runs, and getting the win. Low ERA, high WHIP? What’s going on here?
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:41 am
@bobo: Start Danks.
@timsi:Scherzer is a must start tonight
@Frank Rizzo: Drop Ervin asap for anyone with a pulse
@youngcapitalist: Do not start Hanson tonight.
@scotabout: drop wilson.
So Liriano was just dropped in my non-keeper league. Is he worth a high waiver and a roster spot, or is he garbage?
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:42 am
@mgeoffriau: vazquez should be in the “solid” group, not the “stud” group.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:42 am
@Dingo: Don’t bring it up. It doesn’t fit our theory of Javy not being a big-game pitcher, so we’re going to toss that data.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:43 am
@ThePoonTycoon: ERA will be a touch higher than a true “stud”, but you can’t argue with the K’s he puts up.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:46 am
My new team name is “Walking Wounded” and includes such gems as: Beltran, Ibanez, ARam, Peavy, Halladay, and the “who knows” Sabathia. I guess my 2nd place ranking is about to take a drop.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:47 am
Oswalt/Magglio for Ludwick?
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 am
Also: Which handcuff to drop to make way for Dizzy Votto?*
Madson or Accardo (I have Frasor, though he’s looked shaky and Accardo’s looked good).
*Make Way for Dizzy swept the 1958 Tony Awards.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:52 am
@ Vulturewins. He’ll yeah man! Ludwick hit 37 last year and mags is washed up. !
I am a mets fan I have been crying myself to sleep the last few weeks.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:56 am
@Spamcakes: Better than ever? He has been on the DL twice with arm injuries but has a 0.44 ERA when he’s pitched this year. Hard to get better than that.
@Teef: Suppan scares me, but you should be alright.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:56 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Accardo is day-to-day, left the game with dehydration cramps. Not serious, but would put him behind Madsen in value.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:57 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I cleared room for DIZZY last night. I had to drop either Casey “tits” MCGhee or Valbuena from the tribe…. I chose valbuena even tho he’s been hot.
In my RCL league i’ve got aramis, Quentin, and now Beltran hurt. No wonder my offense has sucked balls. mannnnn….
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:58 am
am holding on to both pena and wilson (texas) until the all star break .
call it preventitive medicine .
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:08 am
hahahaha.. batty but in a good way. that’s rich
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:12 am
Also: (sorry for the cavalcade of Qs but I’ve been away for the weekend):
Drop Nolan Reimold for Marcus Thames?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: The beauty of having four players on the DL (Votto, Reyes, Doumit, & Halladay) is that you don’t have to worry about who to drop when a player gets back. It’s the little things in life!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:17 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I wouldn’t….I would still bet on Reimold having better numbers from this point forward.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:19 am
@Dingo: Always look at the bright side of the DL.
Okay, last Q: Billingsley for Carlos Lee?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:22 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: i’d want reimold
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:23 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I’d say they’re of comparable value.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:34 am
I am trying to trade Loney or Uggla, for a starter, what/who should I am for?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:40 am
Grey,
Do I start Kuroda against the White Sox today?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:41 am
Kelly Johnson was just dropped and I’m wondering if he is worth a pickup? I have Hardy and Theriot as my SS/MI.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:45 am
Who’s got the ballsack to start Dizzy tonight in Toronto? I’m seriously considering it. The guy will hit a HR….it’s a guarantee.
I have a feeling this guy, if mentally stable, will go on a tear the rest of the year and still end up with 30 HR’s.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:46 am
@Suck My Wieters: Although he had a rough start against the A’s last week, the Sox have the 2nd lowest home batting average in the majors and have scored the fewest runs at home of all 30 teams. Additionally, they have the 24th best average against righties. Against Danks, I wouldn’t expect a win, but he should be solid.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:50 am
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I like Reimold more. Believe it or not, he’s on pace for 40 HR over 500 ABs (right now he’s got 8 in 100). And he’s hitting for some avg, too.
Thames is currently hitting .300 – but that’s not going to last.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:58 am
@peter: I hear you — with Votto returning to fill Util, my OF is the 3 best (or least slumping) of Holliday, Dye, Bruce, Maggs (just picked off waivers) and Reimold. I wouldn’t mind picking up someone who will give me a 5 HR week, like Thames can, even though I know Reimold is likelier to put up better #s overall.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:59 am
My ss position has been crap all season (Peralta for most of it). Would you rather have Hardy or Beckham? Beckham’s been pretty good recently.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 am
What do you guys think of the trade I just made?
I get: Votto, Huff, and Markakis
I give: Gonzalez (1b for Pads), Franklin, Morales
Context: 6×6 12 team league, in which BB count against pitchers and SLG % is included. I’ve been decimated by injuries this season. Currently, I have Peavy, Beltran, and Reyes on the DL, but I’ve suffered through stints with Youk and McCann as well. I’m still in third in my league standings, fluctuating between 5-10 points out of first. I’ve got about a 15 save cushion and am in first place in that category, retaining Bell, Broxton, and now Frasor after I give up Franklin. I felt like I had to take this risk on Votto to try to make my team more offensively viable, and I don’t have a lot of faith that Gonzalez’s numbers will keep up, given his lack of protection. Obviously, I expect Huff to have a big second half, as he usually does. What do you guys think?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:07 am
@G-RAM: Definitely like it for you. You had to move a closer and you picked a good one to sell high.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:18 am
What do you guys think of this trade? My Dunn and (Dream)Weaver for his Carlos Lee. I need help in BA and runs, he needs HR.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:21 am
@Timsti: @DT: Against Texas at home where he has a 5.73 ERA? He’ll get strikeouts, but I wouldn’t call Scherzer a must start in a 12-team league.
@Grey: Greinke (@ Hou v. Ortiz), Kuroda (@ CWS v. Danks) Scherzer (@ Ari v. Harrison), Hanson (@ ATL v. Wang). I’m going start, start, sit, sit. Agreed? (QS in a 12-team 6×6)
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 am
Who wins in trading F Cordero for ASoriano?
@Steve: Branyan? Gwynn? Kelly? Kennedy?
@Get figgy with it: Hehe
@youngcapitalist: I’d sit him.
@cnote0314: I wouldn’t trade Oswalt for closers no matter the situation, but if I were, I’d want more reliabe closers.
@Frank Rizzo: I’d take Cook.
@DT: I’d take a flier on Liriano as long as you’re not dropping anyone too worthwhile for him.
@Teef: I wouldn’t start Mazzaro in any league outside of AL-Only.
@Dingo: True
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I’d lose Accardo and take the Oswalt side, but it’s fair. Just seems like you can find a Ludwick off waivers in your league.
@Critter Nagurski: Hehe
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I’d hold Reimold.
@Stephen: Wainwright-type.
@Suck My Wieters: Sure
@Greg: Eh
@Frank Rizzo: You have to start him, what’s the worst that happens an 0-for-4?
@ASAOK: Hardy
@G-RAM: I’d take the Votto side.
@Matt: I’d take the Weaver side.
@SRM: I’d only sit Hanson.
@Falcon: Soriano
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 am
Do we start Nolasco vs BAL tomorrow?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:57 am
@Grey – Who would you start over Mazzaro then?
Options:
Liriano @ Mil
Penny @Was
Pineiro @ NYM
Moyer @ TB
Livan vs STL
Snell vs Clev
Tallet vs Cin
Suppan vs Min
Lannan vs Bos
Andrew Miller vs Bal
Michah @ Tor
Russ Ortiz @ KC (vs grienke)
Gaudin @ Sea
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:06 am
just jettisoned my nick johnson, alex rios, & matt garza for his adrian gonzalez & the ever-frustrating jay bruce; ftw?
@Greg: In 12 teams and shallower, I’d wait until his following start to send him out there.
@Teef: Penny, Gaudin…
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:08 am
@airlifting: “ftw?”………….that made me OLL!
@airlifting: FTW
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:14 am
Should I trade Mauer and Victorino for Teixera and Holliday?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:14 am
what do yall think of homer bailey?
he might be starting this saturday, hes been lights out in tripleA, as usual.
any chance thats going to last in the majors?
@anon: I’d take the Tex side, but it’s fair.
@black love: He’s 23 so I doubt it’s his last chance, but I wouldn’t bother with him outside of NL-Only leagues and even there I’d be cautious.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:18 am
I should have been more clear, I meant I need to trade either Loney and/or Uggla for a starting pitcher. I just got Utley for Josh Johnson
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:18 am
I should have been more clear, I meant I need to trade either Loney and/or Uggla for a starting pitcher. I just got Utley for Josh Johnson, and Dizzy V is returning from the DL and I need to find a place for him to start.
@Stephen: Trade Loney for a SP.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
Start Baker @ MIL this week?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:33 am
With Votto’s return, who should I lose, Dukes or Melky Cabrera?
@Greg: Sure
@vinko: Melky
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:34 am
@Greg: He had a decent start against the Astros until he gave up 4 in the 7th, and 6 overall. He has pretty good track record against the Brew Crew though. I would do it.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:43 am
Do I do this trade?
My Rollins/Sandoval (C-elig) for Gallardo and Nathan
I have Alexei to fill in at SS, starting McCann at C. Saves category is tight and I need to make up in ERA and WHIP.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 am
@RIP Harry: I like that trade for you, given the replacements you have.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:56 am
Alright Greyster – Made the switch to Penny…now I can at least have someone to blame if he blows up
haha kidding…this actually “feels more right” if that makes sense…i just had a bad gut feeling about mazzaro
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:04 am
Who you like for a short term starter? Braden, Morrow, Romero, Correia, Outman, Mazzaro. Regular cats plus Quality Starts.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:17 am
What side of this trade would you want?
Lester or Beckett & Arod for Haren & A. Hill.
Who would you rather have: Lester, Beckett or J. Weaver?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:22 am
@steamer: doesn’t matter who it is in the a-rod side…it’s almost a given i’d rather have that one. i kinda hate jered weaver, but both lester and beckett are at least = to haren. aaron hill ain’t no arod.
@Freak: Braden, Correia, Morrow…
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:29 am
@Freak: All of those guys are matchup pitchers in most leagues. So, it depends, but I gotta like Braden vs COL and Morrow vs SD of those guys next starts. I probably like Romero all things equal, but he faces the Phils next.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:40 am
Need some talking down: In a 4×4 NL-only keeper auction league (old school or like speaking latin, you make the call).
Traded Buster Posey and Chris Princeton Young for Cole Hamels. Posey is keepable for four years once he becomes active and costs $1 in a $26 budget. Hamels is way too pricey to keep. I needed help in W and WHIP. Hamels is someone I never own because of his gimp arm.
Took the trade, now feeling like I might need to gnaw my own arm off to get out of bed. Bad trade/good trade?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:40 am
Who is better OF sub if needed Krispie or Juan Rivera?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:44 am
@ZK: Hamels has never had a serious arm injury actually. I hate Chris Young and catchers, and Posey may not even help next year. Depends what you were going for and your league specifics, but I would take the Hamels side.
@ZK: I don’t mind the trade for you. Get outta bed!
@Greg: Krispie if not injured and playing tonight.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 am
@Greg: If you need steals, Young, if not, Rivera.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
Among Rasmus, Morales, and Reimold — is there any clear favorite?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 am
@grey: right now I have four players for the 2B/SS/MI (BPhillips, Drew, Zobrist, and Ian Stewart) carousel. Is any one of them better than Reimold for the utility slot? Or do I look to package someone with a SP for a real piece?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:54 am
guy just offered billy butler and juan rivera for my votto. i have upton, upton, bruce, bourn, krispie and quentin at OF. is “lol” an appropriate response to a trade offer?
what do you guys say when you get terrible offers but don’t want to offend the offerer?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:54 am
@Grey: Please rank for the rest of the year: Meche, Volstad, Zimmermann, Braden, Blackburn, Richmond
I have some pitching problems (Peavy, Santana on DL) and can pick up 2 of those guys. Who you like?
(Rest of rotation: Lincecum, C-Billz, Sabathia, Slowey, Danks, Liriano)
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:03 am
@brad: Never good to burn bridges. I agree that you COULD give an lol for that one, but I would say something like I don’t really want to be on the 2 side of a 2 for 1.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:04 am
@brad: Offer a reasonable explanation for why Votto is more valuable to you than what he’s offering. If he’s got something else on his team that you’re interested in, try suggesting a different trade possibility. And if you’re feeling like getting in a subtle dig, make your counteroffer almost as preposterous as his.
@Dingo: I’d take Rasmus.
@sean: They’re all better than Reimold, no? I’d look to package someone.
@brad: “Thanks, but I’d want more for Votto.”
@bobbo: Meche, Zimmermann
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:06 am
Pitch man
I heard that Billy Mays been working with Homer Bailey on a new pitch – spit finger pitch – YOU HAVE TO SEE Homer Bailey NEW PITCH – HE JUST WENT 4 – 0 IN TRIPLE A – AND AN 047 ERA – AND DON’T FORGET TO BUY – Mighty Putty
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:16 am
Start Danks?
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:18 am
@Grey and all: What’s the deal with the Boston SS situation? Do we want Greenie, Lowrie, or Lugo for the rest of the year? I’m telling you, AL Only owners care about this, they do…
@Dim: Sure
@MIke D.: I’ve been sitting on Lowrie on two teams. He’s the man to own right now.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:20 am
@Scott: @Dingo: @Grey:Thanks, I’ll do some hybrid of your 3 suggestions, he does have some excess at 3b and SS where I could use some help with Reyes out and Davis sucking ass.
and Dingo: I’d want Rasmus.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:33 am
Would you guys trade Chris Davis/Mccutchen for Mark Reynolds? 12 team non-keeper league. Davis looks pathetic at the plate, AAA seems about 1 more week away.
******There’s a new post for followups for me.********
@Den: I’d take Reynolds there.
******There’s a new post for followups for me.********

You are freaking crazy if you think Pujols is on roids…pure blasphemy
June 23rd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Grey,
Got you added to the roll on http://www.fantasyrundown.com/Home_Page.html
Also i think Clay Zevada has a better Stash than you!
