What I’m saying is that you can’t compare a season’s worth of starts against two starts. That just doesn’t make any sense.

It looks like in 2010 his average stayed about the same throughout the season, though it did drop very late in the season in 2009 and 2011. I would assume that pitchers would lose speed late in the season as their arms tire out from the innings they’ve pitched.

But early in the season, a pitcher is not fully stretched out yet. I would think most pitchers don’t really loosen up until May.

But if you want to worry about Lincecum’s speed, then go ahead and worry about his speed. I would worry more about his command, because I think that’s way more important than his speed. The Rockies weren’t hitting his pitches because they weren’t fast enough. They were hitting his pitches because they were in the middle of the plate.

@Grey, Yeah. We do only have 10 add-drops allowed per week, so a lot of starting pitching gets drafted and held, so there’s never a huge amount on the wire.

@Grey, My wife is a psychologist at a facility that only takes in the worst of the worst… people with developmental disabilities, mostly autism, but things from all over the spectrum pop up. Anyway, you’d be surprise at the level of human that works there and can technically call themselves a special needs/education teacher. Most are great people, but there is a small percentage who are as bad or worse people than Alicia.
