You’ll have to excuse me; I’m a bit hoarse after a weekend in Vegas, so don’t ask me to yell. All caps are just too much right now. I’m not sure where I lost my voice. May have been during our spirited game of Pai Gow Poker. What was I doing playing $15 hands of a game where I literally just turned my cards over so the dealer could tell me how to play them? It’s the free drinks, ya’ll! About eighty dollars worth a free drinks to be exact. Oh, and Ubaldo was pitching a no-hitter and Pai Gow Poker had the best seats in the house. I think even the three 70-year-old Asian ladies at the table with us were into it by the ninth. Hair’s to you, Ubaldo! Either way, I’m spent so I’ll have to keep my enthusiasm on simmer for now about Ike Davis. Let’s start this mofo with what Stephen said in the Mets’ Minor League Review, “After hitting zero home runs in 215 at-bats in 2008, doubters began questioning his “raw power,” but failed to consider an oblique injury. Splitting time between High-A and Double-A, Davis flat-out raked. Not necessarily the most polished hitter, he still has some work to do with his swing and strikeout rate, but he should continue to hit for power as he keeps a decent rate of balls in the air (42.8 FB%).” And that’s me quoting Stephen! In nine games in Triple-A Buffalo, Davis has two homers as he hits a robust .357. Not to be confused with the girls in Vegas, who are mo’bust. The Mets are calling up Davis in the next week. Do I take a flier on him in 12 team or deeper mixed leagues? Certainly. Do I expect the 2nd coming of Hayzeus Cristo? Nope. But if he hits in first few games, his value will go sky high and you’ll be able to trade him for more than he’s worth. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Mike Jacobs – Designated for assignment. That assignment is to “stop sucking.”
Derek Jeter – Will return on Tuesday after missing yesterday’s game with a head cold. Good to see he’s quickly on the mend because a head cold sidelined Greinke for a year.
Aaron Rowand – On the DL with three fractures in his cheekbones that he sustained from a Padilla fastball. In related news, Charlie Haeger’s fastball plunked a mosquito. The mosquito’s day-to-day.
Eugenio Velez – Guess who now has a new every day job? Conan O’Brien? Um, yeah, but also Velez. He’s terrible at everything, except speed. Oh, what glorious burners he has. So, as always, SAGNOF.
Barry Zito – 7 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks and was Alexander Hamilton to Clayton Kershaw’s Aaron Burr (7 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 9 Ks). I’d avoid tough matchups with Zito, but he was ownable last year in most mixed leagues and now through three starts his ERA is below 2.
Franklin Morales – 2/3 IP, 2 ER. Now has back-to-back blown saves. Rafael Betancourt, cuddle boy extraordinaire, would be next in line, but I don’t think we’ve reached that point yet. If Morales blows his next one, then commence vulturing.
Jair Jurrjens – 8 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 9 Ks. Jar-Jar was hit hard hard by the Padres in his last start, then held an actual major league offense in check. Next time, he gets the Mets. Uh-oh.
Max Scherzer – 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 Ks. Now has an ERA of 2.12 on the year. Amongst other reasons, his move to the AL scared me off of him this year. But so far– Wait, he’s faced the Royals twice and the M’s at Safeco. Very sneaky, Scherzer.
Wade LeBlanc – 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 Ks. But if a monkey were playing third, that would’ve been hilarious!
Everth Cabrera – 2-for-4 with his third steal as he continues to bat leadoff. Potatoes to chips, his OBP, which is currently at .280, should shoot up at least 40 points.
Mark Reynolds – 3-for-4 and his fourth homer yesterday. Reynolds is hitting .182 on the year and hasn’t attempted a steal. It’s not cherrypicking negativity for Mini Donkey. It’s a goad. Donkeys, mini or otherwise, need goading.
Juan Gutierrez – Sure has been one sweet pickup for me since Thursday. 2 appearances, 1 IP and 5 ER. Maybe tomorrow he can defecate on my Reggie Jackson rookie card.
Ian Kennedy – 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 7 Ks vs. the Padres in Petco. A’la Guy Fieri, “Was a meatball of an appearance. And meatballs are good!”
Ty Wigginton – Has 4 homers in the last week. Might hit 4 more this week, then not hit another one for a month. Grab while hot, friend.
Marlon Byrd – 3-for-5 yesterday and will now hit leadoff vs. lefties with Theriot dropping to the eight hole, also known as the don’t steal so the pitcher can bunt you over hole.
Lance Berkman – He’s ready to return for Tuesday’s game. Him and Carlos Lee should be able to fix the Astros’ offense, assuming you’re playing in a 2006 throwback league. I have my doubts that Berkman will be the old Berkman. Actually, let me rephrase that because he will indeed be the old Berkman. He just won’t be the Berkman that we used to see.
Aaron Hill – Should be ready to go by Friday. I’ll be impressed if he returns and stays healthy the rest of the year. Member how excited you were in March to own him? How ya feeling now?
Alberto Callaspo – 3-for-5, 6 RBIs with 2 homers yesterday. He’s a .300 hitter with little to no speed and very minimal power. I will call you, Polancallaspo.
Scott Podsednik – 3-for-5 with his 7th steal. If you were an alien and this were your first day on Earth and you saw Podsednik’s stats so far this season and his wife, you’d probably think he was the best player in the major leagues.
Luke Hochevar – 6 IP, 2 ER, 11 baserunners, 4 Ks. He got lucky last time, too. The time before, I said, “He looked sharp last night and I’m ready to leap if he pitches this well again.” These starts since then have made it real hard to buy into him totally, but I’d rather own him at this point than not.
Carl Pavano – 3 1/3 IP, 7 ER. I talked him up last week. Finally putting years of dreckitude behind me. So I picked him up and he got shelled. Did he do this to spite me? Probably. But guess what? It was a weekly league, so I didn’t have him in my active lineup yet. In your face, Pavano!
Jason Marquis – Didn’t record an out as he gave up 7 runs. Now that’s Razztastic!
Mark Teixeira – HR yesterday as his average buoys around .115. Someone turn this guy’s calender to June.
Jay Bruce – 2 solo homers yesterday. After the game, he cured death, then reversed the cure because of all the people who doubted him the first two weeks.
Matt Garza – 8 IP, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks has a 0.75 ERA on the year. Have I mentioned that I traded Rafael Soriano to get Garza in one league?
Ricky Romero – 8 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks. Stop the press! Who’s that? Ricky Romero!
Ervin Santana – 9 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 6 Ks. As the Black Eyed Peas would say, “Mazel tov.”
Rich Harden – 3 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 11 baserunners, 6 BBs. Weird how his stuff has gone from filthy to sloppy.

Grey, don’t get sucked into the Hochevar hype. You saw his WHIP today. How can you say that’s ownable?
Also, how many more HRs before you buy into HGH Wells?
Also, what are your thoughts on Reyes? He’s looked utterly horrible. Is overcoming mysterious thyroid issues similar to Tommy John surgery, or what?
I picked up Pavano and didn’t start him either. It was in a H2H and come Sunday, I didn’t need him. Good Riddance!
@Terrence Mann: Stick with Reyes – what other option do you really have? He hasn’t played for 11 months, so hopefully he’ll come round soon.
Received an intriguing trade proposal today – my Garza and Ubaldo for his Greinke and Wandwagon. I am inclined to stand pat. Am I doing the right thing?
@Gareth: I’d stand pat too. It’s a weird trade, kind of a wash, and kind of depressing, trading two hot players with untapped upside for two cold players who probably had career years last year.
@Terrence Mann: @Gareth: As a fellow Reyes owner, this reassured me: Reyes is hitting 30% LD’s but only has a .200 babip; sounds pretty unlucky, no? I even saw him get robbed with my own eyes on a line-shot comebacker by a Cards pitcher last night.
Glad y’all got some entertainment from Pavano’s latest start. Me? Not so much.
Just goes to show, everything that happens in fantasy baseball makes someone happy.
Welcome back, Grey. Poorer in pocket, weaker in body but enriched in spirit?
Need starting help for a 12 team weekly 5×5 (OBP instead of avg) h2h
Bench 2:
Pacman Jones 3@SEA,3@BOS [no production]
Robot Jones 3vsMIL,3@HOU [no production; faces 2 LHP]
Jose Guillen 3@TOR,3vsMIN
Krispie Young 3vsSTL,3vsPHI
Also, for the same league drop Adam LaRoche for a flier on Davis? A lot of Mets fans in this league…
Matt B: sorry not OBP, regular AVG 5×5 h2h.
Grey, wondering if you saw any Cueto the other night while playing Pai Gow? I am still holding. I know if i dump him he’s guaranteed to K 10 in his next outing.
So what’s everyone feeling with Cueto? Time to bail?
@Schlitzy: Ha! What are the odds..
Welcome back Grey and congrats to Rudy! So which one of you lost a tooth and which one had “one of those pictures” taken with Jangito the Wonder Donkey?
@john: I ditched him for C.J. Wilson in one league and Masterson in another last week.
@Gareth: Yea, I was thinking about ditching him for Masterson. I’m still getting over my draft haze and just now seeing the reality of my team instead of the possibilities.
@Terrence Mann: yep i think reyes is in “extended spring training” right now.
Last week was a rough one for this guy. Wright, reyes and bay on one team? do i need to say more? how about morales, dotel, and heath bell to ruin my week pitching on sunday because i left them in? Thank god H2H there’s always next week. Ugliness, pure ugliness!
@john: That’s a tough one isn’t it? You don’t want to give up on upside guys too early. I’m way more comfortable with jettinsoning (that a word?) upside SPs than hitters, just cos there’s generally more replacements around.
@Tony: As a Mets fan who drafted Reyes and Beltran and overpaid for Wright in a trade last year, I vowed to steer clear this year. Watching them is heartbreaking enough without having them ruin your fantasy teams too.
Welcome back Grey! How long do I hold on to Blanks and Davis? or as I like to call them Blanks and Blanker!
Time to cut bait on Gavin Floyd for a schmohawk like Pelfrey or Colby Lewis. I know it’s just one bad start, but jeebus was it a bad one….
@Gareth: Yea, its miserable. And it happens every single year, but oh well, championships don’t win themselves.
How far away is Planet Suck and when is Hunter Pence going back to his homeworld?
Odd man out in 5×5: Z Greinke @TOR, B Anderson vsCLE, K Slowey vsCLE, @KC, R Wells @NYM, @MIL, R Oswalt vsPIT
Which 2 sit in 5×5 league; Cruz, V. Wells, BJ Upton, Hamilton, Span, Vlad, Heyward?
Which 2 start in 5×5 league; Gio Gonzalez – 2 home starts; vs. NYY, vs CLE, Kazmir – 2 home starts; vs DET, vs NYY, Pavano – 1 start; Road @ KC, I. Kennedy – 1 home start; vs PHI
Fresh off a Vegas weekend and you’re tossing around “Ed” references? C’mon, fess up… what narco-hallucinogen pairing conjured up recollections of that nugget of cinematic gold?
Gotta pick a 6th starter for this week. Who would you go w/ out of the following?
Harden vs DET
Floyd vs SEA
E. Santana vs NYY
I’m leaning Harden, but I might still be a lil’ lopsided from this past weekend’s festivities… ;P
Is Gutierrez out of the closer running now? It is like the collective psychology of baseball is broken, save a few fellows, and the cursed 9th inning suddenly is traumatic for all but the strongest. WTF?
But anyway, drop him for Brett “If I did this to my girlfriend Imagine what I’ll do to you” Myers 2 starts? My other closers are Aardsma and Gregg
Seems like Juan Guitierrez got a chance to be closer and decided he liked 8th inning set up work more. Felipe Lopez of the Red Birds looked better on the mound than Juan this weekend.
I guess it’s time to remove Juan from the “Next Closer Carousel” and put Betancourt on it.
Need some trade advice…was offered his bruce for my capps. Im first in the leagues in saves and can afford to lose capps, but ive got a packed OF with quentin, ellsbury, holliday and fragu/robot/rasmus rotating around my bench and beltran on the dl. I am near the top in hr/rbi and he is at the bottom of saves. I think im getting the better value in the trade but strategically i feel like it helps his team more than mine, am i overthinking this? Thoughts?
last spot on the squad goes to…
Alfonso Soriano. Jose Guillen. or Krispie Young???
thanks all
welcome back Grey!
@Hardcore Midget: check Floyd’s home/road splits from last year and you’ve got your answer.
@PepeSilvia: great name, get your mail yet?
Grey with a Matt LeBlanc reference. Someone call Matty and tell him he’s mildly relevant again
grey, tell us a story about jaime garcia? i dumped cueto for him yesterday.
Too soon to give up on Fowler? Drop him for Gardner or is that just Tomato Tomahto?
Just a reminder to all setting lineups that today is PATRIOTS DAY (sit down, Tom Brady). The BOS/TB game will start at 11:00 a.m. and may lock you out from setting lineups or at least moving the players on those teams around.
@ Beau: Yes, you’re overthinking it. Always take the better player, then sort it out on your roster later. If nothing else it leaves you in that much stronger of a position to make subsequent trades. Plus, if Storen keeps it up at AA Capps’ll be 8th inning fodder for a contender by July…
@Remember Phil Nevin: nope. I really need to go see Carol in HR about this problem with the mailroom.
better waiver wire grab: Velez or Brett Gardner?
i need to start 2 of the following OFs in a weekly league: pence, blanks, rasmus, bruce.
leaning bruce (could he be starting a hot streak??) and pence (crossing my fingers berkman returning to the lineup helps him out).
@PepeSilvia: but there IS NO Carol in HR!
not that you were asking me, but I’d say this: check out the surrounding players plus the fact gardy’s been good already this year.
@Jeff: hamilton and span.
@Grey: E. Santana or Duchy?
@Beau: take bruce. capps won’t be the closer all year…storen will get at least half the season to show off his stuff, plus the nats aren’t gonna win 90+ games anyway and give capps boat loads of opportunities. bruce has the talent to have a j-up type season (remember j-up started awful in 2009 and almost got sent down).
Morneau and Reyes or Prince and Rollins??
@The Dangerous Summer: i’m an ervin believer and have been refusing to dump him, and while i am ecstatic about his start over the weekend, i would hold off on starting him versus the yankees. there will be plenty of sea and oak games to rack up starts from ervin later.
@GopherDay: prince/rollins. rollins will be back (not like reyes is a beacon of health) and prince will get going and isn’t a health risk like morneau.
@GopherDay: Unless its a move for SBs id much rather have prince and rollins.
randy wells or masterson as a 2-start pitcher this week and beyond?
just a heads up for those of you ready to dump cueto (and i know the feeling cause i have him on a team too), he’s talented, and can K guys, and last april ubaldo had a 7.00+ era, and i dumped him, then watched him rack up a 3.00 era for our league champ the rest of the season. not saying you hold him in all cases, but i wouldn’t dump him for someone like colby lewis just yet either.
Drop rasmus or crash for podsednik in keeper league, last place in saves.
Hold on to Lastings Milledge or Chase Headley?
@ThePoonTycoon – I picked up Ubaldo last year in mid-May because from what I recall, was a huge difference in ERA and FIP. He in this site’s and Fangraph’s list to buy low on and so I did.
Johnny Cueto doesn’t boast the high 90′s fastball that Ubaldo has and he also isn’t showing his ability to strike players out like he did when he first came up.
I’m very much a nervous Cueto owner right now.
10 team league and Bruce has been dropped. Should I grab him dropping Willingham in the process?
Weekly league, should I start Cueto home -vs- SD, or Correia @ CIN?
@Art Vandelay: Tomato-tomahto. Gardner is running and Fowler isn’t though. Gardner faces three lefties this week (normally sits against LHP). Fowler has been platooning with Seth Smith (and primarily hitting at the top of the order against LHP).
If you are desperate for steals, Gardner is probably the choice. He is often pinch running even when he isn’t starting. A line of 1R, 1SB 0AB can definitely help.
@William: Low 90s, bad control, and a HR-friendly park are all bad, bad news for Cueto.
***16-team, H2H-5X5 League***
Pick TWO to start this week:
Correia @CIN (Cueto)
Hochevar vsMIN (Pavano)
Gio Gonzalez vsNYY (Vazquez) and vsCLE (Masterson)
Leake vsLA (Padilla)
Thanks
@Matt B: You may want to consider losing Guillen this week for Davis and then if Davis hits when he’s called up, you can ride that for a few weeks until LaRoche’s warmer months come around and flip Davis to a Met fanboy for a decent piece.
Cameron Maybin batting leadoff. Short-lived until Coghlin gets his act together, or poor man’s dread pirate?
A player who emerged this weekend: Justin Maxwell. Is he worth following (stashing) in NL only? Big, toolsy OF. I looked at his minor league numbers and they could go either way. Decent walk rate, good ISO, but BAD strikeout rat. Big frame. But best of all, is only competition for Nats RF job are the Willies: Harris and Tavares.
@Kazmere: as someone who took a couple of fliers on maybin, i’ve been following him closely, and since his awful opening day, he’s been consistently getting on base. he could be on the verge of a breakout after several years of teasing.
Ellsbury or Cain/Fragu side?
i posted this late last night, didn’t get much of a response, its already been accepted in my league, i’m getting one side, who wins? Or is it just FAIR.
I’m starting to think the Jeff Clement experiment has to end. Would you drop him for a hot Pudge (gross sounding), or a boring Chris Snyder/Carlos Ruiz/Barajas/AJ type of dood?
Another boring guy-Jeff Mathis is out there
@Tony: I think the Cain/FraGu side wins out, especially if Gutierrez continues to play he has since the end of last season…
@Tony: as i am actively a ellsbury hater, i think it’s pretty fair, with potential to very much favor the cain/fragu side
@Ian: as a napoli owner who got thwarted on the waiver wire trying to drop napoli twice this past week, he’s finally getting some starts, as mathis has cooled off and should continue to slide towards his ~.200 career avg.
Start or sit Brad Penny this week?
@Jarrad: @ThePoonTycoon: cool i’m getting Ells, i need the SB’s, i like cain, like fragu, but cain was one of the luckier pitchers last year, grey kept calling for a regression, i dont, maybe i’m pulling the plug early, and i’m not the hugest fan of ellsbury, but love the steals, avg and runs…. and i need all the help i can get. I have a 1 in rbis and a 1 in HR’s, and i own prince fielder, lol. Awesome. Thank god its a long season.
@Everyone – Time to jump on Ervin Santana?
Deep NL only league – I need to replace Rowand – need a Schmohawk for my injured Schmohawk. Waiver wire is thin – here are the best choices:
Andres Torres
Eckstein
Fontenot
Crosby
Carroll
Justin Maxwell
Schierholz
John Baker
Who is the best of this sorry group?
@Mr.Rickey – go to sleep and whoever you dream of flying through your bedroom window, you pick him up!
@Tony: yeah, i have prince and adgonz on the same team, and i am sitting in last place by a long shot. i also own lester in that league, so to say i’m off to a bad start is an understatement. this is a new league and i only know 1 other player, so i keep getting crap deals offered to me hoping i’m in panic mode, but i wanna see where i’m at once prince/adgonz start hitting bombs and lester’s pitching normalizes.
@ Grey
Did not pitcure you as a Madonna fan. Wait, does that fact that I know the song make me a fan? Or a fancy boy?
I gotta pack it in. Good shizz as usual. A Jaime Garcia note would be nice.
@PaddyTwoTimes: Perhaps hes just a fan of virgins?
@Terrence Mann: Wells is the same as Guillen. Buy him if he’s out there, sell him if you own him. I’ve been meaning to talk about Reyes. Will do tonight.
@Tom Reale: Ha!
@Steve: Yup, thanks!
@Matt B: Pacman, Guillen and grab Davis.
@Schlitzy: Sorry, all I saw was his line which was frustrating. I’m not dropping him though. I’ve seen him pitch before and I like my chances he can be better.
@Spamcakes: Ha!
@Howard: That’s hilarious. Those guys depend on league size and team need.
@Hardcore Midget: I agree with below commenter.
@EmporersMonkey: Ha!
@Matt B: Anderson
@Jeff: Heyward, Span… Gio, Pavano…Not the prettiest of choices though.
@Awesomus Maximus: Hehe
@Jarrad: Floyd
@Ben: Grab Myers.
@Beau: I’d take Bruce.
@dingers: Guillen
@Remember Phil Nevin: Ha!
@byrone: Looks solid so far.
@Art Vandelay: I’d prefer Gardner.
@PepeSilvia: Gardner
@ThePoonTycoon: Pence, Bruce…
@The Dangerous Summer: Ervin
@nick m.: Masterson, but I’d take either.
@Beau: Saves? Rasmus
@DavidSouter: Headley
@Frank Rizzo: Yup
@anon: Cueto
@Commish Cauda: Gio, Hochevar, not the greatest though as I’m sure you’re aware.
@Kazmere: Short-lived probably, less speed.
@aj: Grab him.
@Tony: Ellsbury wins.
@Ian: Snyder
@Mojo the Helper Monkey: Start
@William: Yup
@Mr. Rickey: Maxwell
@PaddyTwoTimes: Thanks!
@ThePoonTycoon: @Beau: Thanks, just canceled the offer though because I got another trade…
Is this @Grey approved??
I get: Tex, Mini-mini Donkey, and Jair Jurjjens…I give Morneau, Mariano, Price.
I figure Price to Jurjjens is a wash, while I upgrade 1B and MI. (I have six closers, so losing Mariano is nothing)
With a small bench in a 10 team league and Lilly coming back soon, who’s the guy to drop between Lilly, Slowey, and De La Rosa? The rest of my SP’s are CC, Kershaw, Nolasco, Garza, and Oswalt.
@Grey: In a keeper, league where they would cost the same amount to keep, would you drop Bucholze for Ervin? Or would you drop Smoak? (Same price)
@Everyone: This trade has just been accepted in my 10 team 7 keeper roto league.
Team A gets:
Lincecum
Bard
Hermida
Team B gets:
Heyward
B.Anderson
ABailey
I’m not concerned with collusion, just making sure everyone agrees with me that Team B is a moron for only getting 2 prospects and a closer on a shitty team in return for the best pitcher in the game??
Would you drop E.Encarnacion for Teahen? just for the bench..
@timSTi: Looks like Heyward lust to me. Bard could be Boston’s closer next year.
Grey, I’m setting my weekly lineup and would like a second opinion on 2 OF this week
Markakis: 3@Sea, 3@Bos
Adam Jones: 3@Sea, 3@Bos
Bruce: 3 v. LA, 3 v. SD
Chris Young: 3 v. Stl, 3 v. Phi
@timSTi: Agreed Id want lince side but not totally ridiculous.
@Grey:
Ehhh if Eugenio Velez has great burners, why is his career steal % under 70. In my book, if you can’t steal at least 70% I dont think you should be stealing.
@timSTi: Just looks like someone got caught up in Heyward love. Keeper leagues are kind of funny though because they guy who traded away Lincy might have thought his arm would implode.
@GopherDay: @Frank Rizzo: @Beau: Yeah I agree on the Heyward lust. Him Strasburg and Chapman were all drafted way too early in this league as well. I guess I’m just mad for not offering up the Lincecum owner something and getting my hands on him.
@Grey: What’s the latest on Kerry Wood’s situation when he returns? Will he be immediately taking over closer duties? I’m sure Perez not looking to sharp helps that possibility. I had him as a DL stash and now my DL is filled and I have Rollins taking up a bench spot.
@Frank Rizzo: i’d look into trading one of you SPs for a hitter. if you have to drop a SP, i think it’d have to be dlr, but i’d hate to drop him without seeing lilly throw in the bigs first. i’d probably leave lilly on the DL until your league forces him back to being on the active roster.
Trade: Power speed is pretty equal would you trade adam Jones for Jay bruce?
@Grey: Welcome back. Hope those lizard men who hang out at Circus Circus didn’t get you. Pretty deranged weekend of baseball.
Stop hating on my Aaron. Hill be just fine (see that alliteration).
With Hill and Fuentes coming back, I’ve got some tough choices. Fowler and Desmond are the only two expendable position players (Wiggy Jr. is fire). All of my starters (aside from Zam-suck-o and Floyd) are doing well and I’ve got Gregg, Rausch and Madson holding down the pen.
With a few days until my guys get back, I’m trying to make a 2 for 1 trade to get something back as opposed to just dropping guys who could potentially be useful. If you had to drop any of those guys, I’d imagine you’d drop Desmond and Fowler, no? I may dump a closer (maybe get a future draft pick out of him) since 4 of those clowns will not help my ratios.
@Elijah: He has a major league career steal rate of 73.2 percent. Juan Pierre has a major league career rate of 74.8 percent. Cust Kayin’.
@3FingersBrown: Despite the misuse of the word “alliteration”, I agree with you on Aaron Hill. He said he could have played through the injury immediately, but instead they decided to back-date the DL stint just as a precaution. He should be good to go for this season as long as people didn’t buy him expecting last year’s stats.
Re: Ike Davis.
I was considering him but looking at my team and what I could read about him my two options to drop for him were the other Davis or Blanks. I didn’t think we would bring much more to the table. Thanks KC for letting me watch him from afar.
Those who listened to the game last night – anyone hear them trying to explain Frenchy’s 2010 success?
@ThePoonTycoon: I’d love to trade a pitcher for a hitter Poon, but it’s so early in the season that nobody is even listening yet. And in a 10 teamer with a shallow bench, there’s some decent SP’s on the wire.
Grey – Welcome back!
It must have been your buy/sell post on Friday as my team saw your confidence and performed from the far reaches of the baseball world.
@Frank Rizzo: Those are very strong pitchers, even for a 10 team league. The 3 weakest to me are Slowey, Oswalt, and De La Rosa. Try to trade a pitcher, even if it’s not the best deal. Getting someone for one of those pitchers is better than just cutting them.
Guy in my 12 team roto league is moaning about Lester. Might even drop him but I’m 9th in waiver priority. I want to offer him a trade asap assuming the Razzhands&Grey think Lester is healthy, just working through mechanics right now.
Who should I offer up, and in what order? Markakis, Quentin, Oswalt? Oswalt + closer?
@GopherDay: Yup
@Frank Rizzo: Lilly
@Chris: So pick two? Markakis and Bruce. Trade guys if you have surplus.
@GopherDay: Smoak
@Doot Doot: No, I’d drop hm for a MR or SP.
@Elijah: Sounds like you’ve never seen him run.
@timSTi: Wood should take over the job again when he returns.
@Brian: Nope
@3FingersBrown: Thanks! Desmond and Fowler, yeah.
@BSA: Cool…
@Kazmere: I would offer Oswalt first. He is fine and I wish I had him.
Welcome back, Grey. You seem only a little worse for wear.
Speaking of Heyward, on Saturday, in a standard 12 team mixed league, I traded my Heyward for his Ricky Nolasco. Previously, I had traded my K Rod and Stephen Strasburg for his Josh Johnson. A pitching staff for a couple of kids and SAGNOF is the way I’m looking at it. Did I get it right?
Meantime, in another league, I picked up Nate McLouth, who’s really sucking. Am I better off keeping him, or moving on to someone like Cameron Maybin or Josh Hamilton?
@Kazmere: Oswalt, Oswalt closer, Quentin… IN that order.
@Bob: Thanks! And nice trade. What do you mean moving on? Is Hamilton and Maybin on waivers?
I’m jumping ship on the Clemexperiment.
Who to pickup off waivers until my Montero comes back from service?
Napoli
Iannetta
Pierzynski
Snyder
Ruiz
Olivo
Barajas
Mathis
@preptime: You caught me. It’s early. I’m not sure what sort of literary device I’m smoking. I understand the Hill hate, as I’m sure a lot of people were expecting a repeat of ’09. I kept him for a 21st round pick, so I’ll be happy if he doesn’t plain suck.
In a Weekly 5×5 h2h with 4SP/2RP my opponent will have 5 starts, I’m set for 6 with the above (Rauch/Nunez as closers).
Bench Nunez for a “RP” start from either: Colby Lewis @BOS&vsDET or Phil Hughes @OAK? Or trust 6 from Danks, Slowey, Felix, Kershaw hold up against 5 from Hanson, Nolasco, CC, and Romero?
@TheEvilEmpire: Even though you’re in my league, I would go with Iannetta.
@Grey: My bad. The coffee hasn’t kicked up. I meant that a Josh (Willingham) and Cameron Maybin are on the waiver wire, and since McClouth is my first off the bench OF, would I be better off getting rid of McClouth and picking up someone hotter off the waiver wire, or hanging in there with Nate a little longer?
@TheEvilEmpire: I picked up Pudge Rodriguez over all of those guys. I am not sure if I endorse that completely though.
@Grey: 10 tm Roto 7 Keepers. One guy is hurting for power and I’m looking to get BBershaw off him. I lead HR’s R’s & RBI’s so I could spare a bat. Whats a fair offer for him?
Snyder, Pujols, Phillips, Furcal, Youkilis, Stewart, G.Jones, Kemp, Bruce, Cruz, Quentin, Pence, Hart, Podsednik, Rollins (IR), Montero (IR)
Nolasco, Baker, Vazquez, Cueto, E.Santana, DLR, Sanchez, CJ Wilson, Marmol, Morales, Dotel, Rodney.
Is Quentin and/or Santana too much? He drafted Kershaw in the 9th round, same as I drafted Quentin.
the schmohawk arm parade continues…this time, 16-team, H2H-POINTS
I know they’re less than desirable…,but it’s what I have. Please pick TWO for this week…thanks
Rowland-Smith @CHW (Floyd)
Latos vsSF (Sanchez)
Bush @PIT (Morton) and vsCHC (Zambrano)
Hammel @WAS (Lannan)
Is Ikey Davis available in any of y’all’s Yahoo leagues?
@Grey: pick one for H2H points for my last slot:
Dotel, Penny, Masterson (crossing streams as I am starting slowey), Gio Gonz.
Would you then sub one of the remaining in for Nolasco?
What are your thoughts on crossing streams?
@Stephen: You sure about that? GWJ league?
@Grey: do you see carlos santana getting called up soon with the dismal catchers the tribe have swinging the bat?and what do you think of gordon here on in.Hope yall had fun came home with money left and nothing is itching to bad
Which one would you bench this week? Span, Werth, Krispie, or Bruce?
I picked up Callaspo yesterday hehe! Nice debut, but I’ll be punting him in a few days. Wheel of fortune at 2b, C, and CF. What a team I have. And SS and RF have been bad too. My team OBP is .285 through 2 weeks. As Borat might say, niiiiiceeee.
Ervin Santana for Jay Bruce? (I get Bruce).
@Denys: could work but i want bruce all day
@Denys: how values change
@TheEvilEmpire: Snyder at least has every day ABs, but they’re tomato-tomahto really.
@Matt B: I’d go with two closers if you’re already an extra start above your opponent.
@Stephen: Ha!
@Bob: Hold for a little.
@timSTi: Just Quentin is fine. See if that gets it done.
@Commish Cauda: Latos and Hammel
@GopherDay: Not yet.
@Sal: Penny if you don’t need the saves of Dotel… I don’t mind crossing streams. Why are you benching Nolasco?
@AL KOHOLIC: Ha! Thanks! Be shocked if Santana came up before June. Gordon – eh.
@GTS: How are you guys still doing weekly adjustments? Games already started. Anyway, bench Span.
@papasmurf: Ha!
@Denys: I’d want Bruce.
Just got offered Felix and Doumit for Howard in a 6×6 h2h league with TB and QS. I already own Hamels, Nolasco, Bills and J.Sanchez. With TB I feel like power has way more value, should I sit tight or pull the trigger?
C: AJ
1b: MCab
2b: I. Stewart
ss: Andrus
3b: ZImm
OF: Granderson
OF: Lind
OF: Rios
Util: Howard
SPs: Hamels, Billingsley, Nolasco, Sanchez ,Cueto, Harden, Masterson
RPs: Bell, Valverde, Aardsma, Dotel, Feliz
@AL KOHOLIC: @Tony: @Grey: Bruce it is.
@Jerry: your staff is fine, i would NOT do that…. its basically felix for howard?
@Denys: he will be steaky,but i bet on over 30 hr,s
@Grey: You are a trooper for learning a new game in Vegas. I think the musical phrase to a pit boss’s ears are, “So, how does this game work?” I went to a bachelor party in Vegas a few years back and one of the guys was brave enough to ask the dealer to explain craps.
What I learned: It is impossible to explain craps.
Speaking of craps — Is Borbon droppable in 12-team mixed if he’s not leading off? Is it worth dropping him for Maybin? Maybe?
@Grey: It’s a daily lineup league.
@Grey: bruce or pence straight up,any league?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: ” I think the musical phrase to a pit boss’s ears are, “So, how does this game work?””
What?
I’m writing like I’m the one back from a bachelor weekend in Vegas.
@GTS: Ah, my bad.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Borbon has 40 steal speed and Maybin has 20, so I’m hesitant for right now. I’ve been playing craps for ten years and I’m not even sure about some bets.
good idea Grey. I don’t really need a SP at the moment with Lincecum/C.Lee/Hanson/Romero/C.Wilson/Penny/Porcello/Matsuzaka(DL), lol. But could use a RP for sure. Only have Dotel and Soria as sure bets for saves, with J.Johnson.
Which of these RP do you like?
Badenhop, Mujica, Villanueva, Jensen Lewis, Affeldt, Rafael Betancourt
@AL KOHOLIC: Bruce, barely.
@Doot Doot: Betancourt
@Grey: Drop Johnny Cueto for Ervin Santana today, or wait till AFTER he pitches against the Yankees?
I play in a 12 team standard roto 5×5 H2H league.
@Grey: grabbed betancourt already,,so really,hows the head feel(the 1 with the stash)
@Grey: I dealt Rauch for Krispie, so now have 6 guys for 4 spots: Grady, Dunn, Lind, Krispie, Bruce, Borbon.
Borbon is semi-permanently shelved (get it? Shelved? Like at a bar?) Can I bench Dunn too? I played him yesterday and got sonavabenched by Bruce’s double-donks. (I am a glutton for that particular punishment, apparently.) I want to set/forget, but so far Lind is the only one who’s proved he deserves everyday playing time.
I’m going Sizemore, Lind, Bruce, Krispie. ?
I’m pretty sure it only makes sense to use my #1 waiver priority on Ike Davis (Yahoo League) for my CI spot in a 16 team 8×8 H2H league right? I would be dropping Troy Glaus.
I’m trying to learn craps… not too hard to learn. it’s like professions: the easier the job, the less it pays. the “easier” to learn a game, the more advantageous for the house the game is.
help me out: http://razzball.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7511
@Baron Von Vulturewins: id have kept rauch
@Cheese: i thought glaus was good for 260-30-100 and im afraid he wont hit 250-20-80
@and1mcgee: ha,i was up $100 in 30 minutes,then my brother counted my winnings and i lost every bet till i was down 40,there is a truth to a jinkx
Thoughts on a trade:
My Nolasco, JJ Hardy, Reimold for his Jeter, Carl Crawford.
which side would people prefer – Adam Dunn and CBYoung, or Carlos Pena, Chase Headley, and Fernando Rodney.
@Baron Von Vulturewins I’d deal Dunn or Grady. Whomever you can get more than their value for. I think you need just one extra guy. 2 is too much. I am in the same predicament. You have one xtra guy in case of injury, and for off days for other OFs, then if someone else gets injured, use waivers for the flavor of the week.
I’d say move one of them for a SP or RP, whichever you need.
@TheEvilEmpire: needs?but i like carl side more
@Grey: Ah, a fellow craps-playing degenerate. At its most basic level, it’s a pretty easy game to understand and calculate bets. Some of the carnival bets are a little difficult to grasp, but they are sucker bets anyway.
I’ve found the evil person in me enjoys winning on the don’ts more than the partier in me enjoys winning on the pass line. It’s such a kick in the nuts for the guy who just lost all his chips to see them being paid out to me instead of going to the dealer.
@TheEvilEmpire: ya the cc/jeter side is much better, depends can you take the loss of an sp?
@Corey II: dunn side
@TheEvilEmpire: Id second AL, nice upgrades at 2 spots if you need them and can stomach losing ricky (just dont lose my number).
@TheEvilEmpire change your name to WalMart? jk
agree with AL KOHOLIC: jeter/carl is better, but based on needs.
@Grey:
1. Drop AJ Pierzynski for Pudge or Ianetta?
1a. Keep AJ, drop Blanks or Latos for Pudge or Ianetta.
2. Punt catcher, wait for either Santana or AJ to heat up?
Welcome back Grey!
@William: You can wait one start.
@AL KOHOLIC: Pretty terrible.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: If Bourbon’s shelved, then let me age. See what I did there? As soon as you bench someone, they’re gonna hit. You know that.
@Cheese: Dropping Glaus is a bit scray in that deep of a league, but it could pay off.
@AL KOHOLIC: I hit 3 points on my roll and one was a hard eight which I was playing. Rudy and I did well in craps. About the only game I won at this weekend.
@Corey II: Pena side, but they’re pretty fair.
@Corey II: its even unless krispie goes 280-30-20 steals and rodney is done at 8 saves,but if krispie goes krispie of the past and rodney gets 25-30 saves??,roll the dice big guy
@Howie Met Your Mother: Thanks! 1. Iannetta
college Statistics professor went on and on about how craps has the best odds of any game on the floor… besides finding cash on the ground… or blowing a guy in the alley for $20, etc. etc. I could go on…
@Grey: ya like i benched bruce yesterday (couldnt win HR’s with his anyways) and of course tho, like clockword, bruce hits….
sonovabench!
@Corey II: the rodney side.
thank god bj upton is showing up this season
@Grey: yes but its noon here,and i have a nice cigar in hand and mouth,and another woodford sliding down the pipes,life is good,it wood be great if i could get my team E.R.A AND AVE up to respectibility
@and1mcgee: If played right, maybe, but I always thought BJ was the best game. That’s blackjack.
@Tony: Ha
@AL KOHOLIC: Nice!
@ThePoonTycoon: frikkin i just move from one lucky team to the next, the guy i play today, names his team DA RAYS, he owns half of them, including UPTON and LONGO who now have a combined 5 rbis
this might not be my year! and its ONLY week 3 ha!
@ThePoonTycoon: all i can recall is the low inside ball that B.J. crushes,doesnt even look like he swings hard,yet a monster to dead center,he,s got the ability to go for 30 dingers
@Grey: it’s not. BJ will take your money. Are there any statistics teachers in the Razzball house???
@Grey thanks for saying how Lackey will suck this yr. Case and point: today.
@AL KOHOLIC: I was thinking the same thing, especially after Morales and Marmol both blew saves yesterday. However, I already have a ten saves lead and I figure Krispie is a high-risk, high-reward proposition.
April is all about accumulating talent. And being in 11th place, apparently.
@Tony: oh wait he also has zobrist, he now has all 6 rbi’s from the rays game today… wonderful
and he’s throwing Niemann….. red sox? hellooooooooo, how about you do something!
If you’re hurting at pitching, would you drop Leake, Ian Kennedy, or Cueto to pick up Clayton Richard?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: if played exactly by the book the casino only holds a 51% to 49% advatnage in blackjack…thats if you play it by the books
should brignac be owned? moreso than nick johnson? i really wanna drop Nick Johnson, someone tell me to…. or should i hang on to the fat F….ck?
@dave: i don’t know that richard is giving you anything those guys aren’t/won’t. i mean, i guess he could outperform any of those guys this year, but he hasn’t done anything to make me think he will.
Start Matusz @ BOS this week? Also, am I right for benching Harden vs DET until he stops being sloppy?
@Grey: Need to pull of a 2 for 1, in order to get some value and not just end up dumping guys. Plus I see Brett “White Lightning” Gardner and Aki on the wire and I need a little speed.
I offered a guy Desmond and Fuentes for FraGu. Haven’t heard back. I know he’s a cop, so he could just be on duty. Or he could think I’m a fool and just wants to leave me hanging. Should I shoot back with McGehee & Fuentes? I got pop and he has Rodney and Guzman to give you a little context.
Another idea:
I give McGehee + Madson for CarGo? That guy has lousy MI’s and Lidge. Will I get laughed out of Dodge? I figure I can part with McGehee. His dad’s on waivers if I need pop.
Grey, just dropped Crapoli and now I don’t have a catcher. Who should I grab? Pierzynski, Baker, Pudge, Mathis, Olivo… I don’t want any but I have to do something.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: For the moment, I’m sitting Sizemore against tough lefties, or really any lefties. He’s never been that great against them (.238 AVG), and this year he’s started off horribly (.056).
grey…is garza this years greinke? or will be ultimately be in the 3.00-4.00 era range?
@Grey: McLouth or Willingham for the rest of the season?
A guy in my league just dropped Krispie and Cueto to pick up Maybin and Jaime Garcia. If I only have one free roster spot, which one of the two dropped dudes should I target?
@Dingo Krispie!! and it’s not even close
Just got offered his Holliday and Weaver for my Nelly Cruz and Raffy Soriano…
I’m not exactly weak at SP with Hamels, Bills, Nolasco, Slowey, Dempster and Sanchez, but I have more than enough saves, so Raffy can go…
He also has dlR, Verlander and Felix, think I should sub one of them in for Weaver and add a bit more in to get it done, or is it fine with Dream Weaver?
@Kid n’ Play: Olivo
@Grey: Which side? Lind & Brian Wilson vs. Texeira.
16-team, 8×6 league with TB & OBP. I’ve currently got Konerko and N Johnson at 1B.
Did the stache get a tan in Vegas?
@Adam: Forgot to mention, league counts hitter K’s and OPS instead of AVG, if that changes anything
@Adam: take that…. i think the guy has forgotten for every week Nelson cruz hits 5 HR’s he slumps for a month.
@Adam: I would take that OF upgrade if you need SP help. This is swapping a SP for a RP and upgrading OF. Holliday is more consistent and hits for higher average… but I think Cruz will hit a few more dingers and steal a few more bases…. and slump more.
@Adam Definitely take that trade.
Do you guys think that Victor Martinez is getting old or is this just a standard slump… I might be offering a pick in next year’s draft in exchange for V-Mart and I’m wondering how high a pick he deserves.
@and1mcgee: Not a teacher, but I did read Bringing Down the House. Not the script to the Steve Martin/Latifah joint. I agree with Beau. It’s about 50/49 on BJ from what I’ve heard.
@Tony: Hold
@GTS: Eh on Matusz, depends on team and league. I wouldn’t bench Harden, but I also wouldn’t own him, so there’s that.
@3FingersBrown: CarGo will probably get laughed at, but you can try. I’d take FraGu there.
@Kid n’ Play: Olivo
@grandysdandy: I hope so.
@Mike D: McLouth can give you 18/18; Willingham 27 homers and good Runs and RBIs. Depends what you need.
@Adam: Take it.
@Dad: Stache is a bit burned. Tex side.
@Grey: LOL @ “Not the script to the Steve Martin/Latifah joint”
Did someone tell every F’in Red Sock to be the suckiest bunch of sucks they could be. Pitching! – HA – Defense – 2 errors today – HA Bats – as Joe Castiglione would say, “Swing and a popup.”
@Grey: for 2 deck BJ, I think the house advantage is 48 or 49% yes… but who has the patience to play by the book? WHERE IS THIS BOOK!?! jk
Jesus this post is exploding.
And just read an amusing note- it seems that if Pelfrey hadn’t lobbied Manuel to let him pitch, Francoeur would have been the next Mets pitcher
@El Burrito: Standard slump.
@and1mcgee: Hehe
@BSA: They don’t look good at all.
EDIT: Word.
@Eddy: Jesus… ‘Flores’ ? :]
@Eddy: Be ironic if Frenchy threw nothing but strikes.
@Grey: I just keep telling myself they CAN’T suck this bad!? I hate using the word suck but there is no other word.
Playing too flat.
Too many leaders on the bench and not involved?
@Grey: Offered Oswalt for Lester but he wants only Aardsma. I have Bell, Rodney, FF, and Gonzalez on DL. 12 tm roto. Is this highway robbery? Am I missing something??
@Grey: Thanks, pulled the trigger…also, last night, got Carp/Ohman for RoboJones and Fatt Capps, others weighed in and liked it but your approval to me is like cocaine to Ron Washington, you likey?
Also, regarding your Byrd/Theriot note in the post, does it really matter where Theriot hits against LHP? I’d imagine a majority of steals come against RHP anyway, but I might just be overthinking it. For the record, as a Cubs fan, I’m not expecting this move to last long, as Theriot has hit lefties pretty well in his career
Off topic – friends in Redondo Beach and Palm Springs for honeymoon- where would you send them?
@TheEvilEmpire: You’re in RCL 8 too right?
@Kazmere: I’d want Lester.
@Adam: You did fine. Could hurt his value a bit.
@BSA: Not to Palm Springs or Redondo Beach.
has your opinion on josh hamilton changed any?
@charlie batch: Not yet.
@Grey: Just curious, have you ever mentioned who your favorite MLB team is? I’ve been reading for two years now and nothing is coming to mind, but attention to detail has never been my strong point
so the rays are rolling, but how about lackey, HA! BAMMM! five fingers to the face….
Crapps is slightly better than B.J. (But this is coming from a guy who reached on Dirty Sanchez).
@Tom Reale: what are you talking about? i’m not following…
@Grey: Too late, I’ll tell them to get out.
I’ve often read that Craps, playing the pass line with double odds, and nothing else, is the best odds. It’s like 50.4 – 49.6% or something like that. If you go “book to book”, it does have better odds than blackjack.
@Adam: Grew up a Yankee fan, but I’d prefer my fantasy guys do well than the Yanks. Also, don’t talk about them much because most of their players are no-brainers. Not much to say.
@Benfatti: You could be right. You could lose money at craps very fast though at a bad table.
@Grey: I like Ike! Thanks for giving us Mets fans hope. The question is: Is Ike a fit replacement for Lastings Milledge in our mythic pantheon of eternal hope?
“Ike Davis tried to call his shot like Babe Ruth, but he realized the human eye can’t see as far as he was going to hit the ball.”
BTW, Lasting’s (#85 on Pirates) role model is Chad Ochocinco, which seems fitting.
Two questions: on the topic of BJ’s – BJ Upton for Cano – who gets the better of that deal
Alexei Ramirez or EverCab?
Thanks
@BSA: Palm Springs is excellent if you have a lot of $$ or if you love to golf. There is no where to go, like beach or mtns., so there are a lot of amenities. It’s a golfer’s paradise. Also, a ton of great food. It’s like a rich retirement town… a ton of Jags and Bentleys and Maseratis… it’s somewhere to retire, not honeymoon. it’s also a good guys’ trip for golfing.
@and1mcgee: Just an Odds/Baseball/Copro Joke.
@Grey so… I have watched a change of dealers and then the new dealer wipes everybody out… how does this happen!!? does the dealer start cheating? i don’t get it. How do the odds change when there is a new dealer? I’ve heard time and time again, when they change the dealer, get up and move on. why??? i had one clean myself and the rest of the table out after we were ALL up by more than double and left just puzzled….
@Grey: Oh, it’s the worst. You can win AND lose so fast.
A lot of times I like to play the don’t pass… and get the icy stares from the people as I win and they lose.
@Paulie Allnuts: I’d want Cano, but it’s fair. I’d take EverCab.
@and1mcgee: Palm Springs felt like I died and went to heaven. Not meant the usual way that phrase is used, but because there were so many old people.
@Tom Reale: Odds indeed. I keed.
@and1mcgee: Sounds like superstition.
@Benfatti: Guy next to me was playing Don’t Pass when I was hitting points. Naturally, I high-fived him after every good roll. Just to piss him off.
@and1mcgee: i forgot to mention… it’s blackjack…
@Eddy: Frenchy has led the ML in outfield assists since coming to the Bigs. I would take him over John Maine in a heartbeat
@Grey:
Yankees fan? I guess I figured Angels. That would explain not talking about it. I used to hate the Yankees. Got tired of them buying championships. I was happy when Boston finally got their World Series. THEN, I saw in full effect how obnoxious Boston fans are when they win. Good Lord.
Now, I view the whole series as voting for president. No matter who wins, we all lose.
@Grey: I’m telling you, Grey, new dealer wiped us out. Like Mesopotamia or something…. were they wiped out?? eh.. i digress…
@Terrence Mann: It’s not like fans of any other team are any better after a championship. Winning goes to one’s head no matter whom you root for.
@and1mcgee:
It’s all luck. There is a lot of superstition to it. I was a casino dealer for a couple years when I was 21-23. You have to realize that most pit bosses are degenerate gamblers, too. They have their own superstitions. Sometimes, they’ll throw a new dealer on the table because they “think” it will kill the table, too.
hey fellas… what websites do you guys go to for stats such as bapip, and also to help decide if you should start a SP against a certain team…
@Grey: That is good stuff. I had a guy hit about 8 points on me once at a casino here in Michigan. You just have to laugh and have fun with it… I bought him a drink.
@Terrence Mann: maybe it’s because after you win, you start to gain confidence and increase your bets… then you lose more… maybe that’s why our table got wiped out… like Europe during the Black Plague… ok now i know THAT one is accurate!
@Benfatti: … and are you guys together to this day?? does this story have a happy ending??? :]
@Nathan:
I’m going to have to go ahead and sort of disagree with you there…

grey, whats going on w/ carlos lee?
you think its berkman being out?
i think i messed up by trading arod/choo/garza for holliday/j-up…what do you think, do you think i got hosed?
@and1mcgee: haha you know, we had a nice chat, but it never really led anywhere… I had to move on to other prospects. lol
@and1mcgee: i love happy endings.
@Mic: fangraphs or hardball times are my faves. Baseball reference is good too.
Better DL stash – Webb or Bedard? Or should I drop Kerry Wood and hold both (I have Franklin, Cordero, Capps, Dotel)?
@pjtres: Hard to completely evaluate the trade until later in the year. Right now, it’s not looking great, but it could change. Hope Lee can get to 25 homers, but right now he looks like Ortiz’s doppelganger.
@nick m.: Bedard
@Mic: What Beau said.
@and1mcgee: sometimes a change of dealer and cards is all it takes. Ever see “The Cooler?” watch out for William H. Macy… I’m a craps guy when I want to gamble. Otherwise I stick to hold’em. I stay away from black jack at all costs, unless there’s a dollar table and I want to get blotto.
@3FingersBrown: Blotto, indeed.
@Grey:
No, I really havent seen that much of Velez as hes never been able to stick in the lineup. I can see the interest in him if he’s gonna be hitting leadoff for awhile for sure. I’ve got Sizemore now, but I’m wondering why to drop him after such a small sample size.
@Elijah: Velez doesn’t have much going for him, but he’s blazing fast. Around an 8 on the Bill James Speed score, that’s Crawford fast.
@Tony: LOL!
@pjtres: I think you lost that trade by a landslide.
@Grey:
Yep, yep. I think I’m gonna give Sizemore a bit longer. Why the early bailout on him last week btw? Yeah hes not stealing or hitting HR’s but hes got a secure job and playing better than some of the bigger names on that team.
@Grey: where can I go to find out speed scores? I wanna find out who’s the fastest Flying Molina Bro…
Romero and Robot for Dunn; fail? win?
Oh and, I imagine people have mentioned this, but I didn’t see it, so I’ll dare to be repetitive and note that word is Ellsbury may goto the DL if he doest get better ASAP.
@and1mcgee: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3893&position=2B/OF#advanced
Velez is Wilie Mays Hayes.
@penpen: I’d take Romero’s side, but it’s close and depends on needs.
@and1mcgee: its in a keeper league, but still…
just goes to show you, dont trade before the season starts! let it play out a little.
i asked about that trade on this site pre-season, and every commentor said they would take the holliday/upton side. lol
@Grey: Oh well that’s how it goes with new material. I just hope it goes over better at my Gamblers Anonymous/Sex Addict meeting tonight. I don’t want to end up sparring with Meatloaf and his Buge Hoobs…again!
@pjtres: ya we’re two weeks in, hindsite from 2 weeks in is not 20/20…. garza is whats throwing it off, and choo’s been smoking hot, law of averages will come into play.
@anyone/Grey:
12 Team H2H, large bench:
Latos, Carmona, Jim Johnson, Bucholtz, Frank Francisco (also have Nefali). Who is the first one out? (I bet Grey’s answer will be Carmona).
@ tony: true… but i think i wont make anymore trades post-draft/pre-season anymore. lol
@Terrence Mann: Eh, I don’t buy it. I don’t deny that Boston fans from this decade are collectively obnoxious. But I don’t think it has anything to do with Boston, itself. If the Phillies, Eagles, and 76′ers won 6 championships combined in 10 years, you’d see, hear and read the exact same stuff about their fans. Winning breeds obnoxiousness.
@Tom Reale: Ha!
@Howie Met Your Mother: Eh, I could see him over Latos, unless Latos is at home. Then yum!
@pjtres: you win if A-Rod’s not in there. But he’s a 3B and that’s a shallow position.
What do you think… 5×5 Roto…5 OF’s
Holliday (me) for Ludwick and Ubaldo (them)
Are you at all worried about Sizemore? I’ve never owned him before this year thanks to your bounce back chant. Is he a slow starter? I’m thinking about trades I could do needing power, and Sizemore for Cruz would be one I’m kicking around.
@Grey: Jose Molina wins: 3.5 over both Yadier (1.7), and Bengie (1.5). surprised that Yadier is only 0.2 higher than his brother? or that Jose is a blazin’ 3.5?
I don’t think “The Wack Puma Sneaker” is going to save the ‘stros either. But he should provide some extra pop to pull Pence’s progress positively, pertinent? (I typed that only using 3 fingers Mr. Brown)
@Tom Reale: I give you an 8 out of 10. You lose points for your questionable use of the word “pertinent”.
stream any of the following tomorrow?
Volstad @HOU
Myers vs FLA
Bush @PIT
Eveland vs KC
Don’t need any of these, just get bored easily…
@Grey: Mays is a 6.5… Velez is 8.5 on speed, wow. it’s a wonder why he didn’t run more last yr. Mays Hayes, however, is a 16.4 wow! lol
Would you drop Phil Hughes and pick up Ike Davis in a non-keeper league? My current SP staff is Nolasco, Hamels, Billingsley, Kershaw, and De La Rosa. I don’t have a need at 1B or corner position but could stick him in a UTL spot if he hits.
@Nathan: Thanks. Pertinent…Will Berkman’s return be relevant to Pence’s production?
Rasmus for Hamilton? Hamilton a good buy low, or stay away?
I hope Hamilton’s a good buy low, but this could be Rasmus’ breakout year, so I’d be hesitant to sell on him.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post has confirmed that first base prospect Ike Davis will be in the Mets’ starting lineup on Monday night.
@Beau: I believe lowest house odds are craps, double bet behind the line against come out roll. Less than 2%.
Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh – Joel Allen Sherman of the New York Post has confirmed that first base prospect Ike Davis will be in the Mets’ starting lineup on Monday night. deluxe edition post
I put this in the last mega-thread, but Grey, you looked prescient in your last post about Charlie Haeger: “Some days Haeger will throw 12 Ks, other days he’ll give up 7 runs in two innings.” It actually took him three innings to give up 7 runs…
@cruisinkc: i don’t like leaving my staff with only 5 SPs, but that said, i’m not big on hughes, so i could go either way.
I’m considering giving:
Wright
Span
Billingsley or Price
And getting:

Thoughts? I think I can find decent schmohawks on the wire, and I need more power
@and1mcgee: Scarne’s Complete Guide to Gambling, John Scarne.
The trade offer I sent last night (my Phillips/Nolasco for his J-Up/Garza) was accepted. Why is it that whenever a trade offer I’ve sent gets accepted, I immediately feel like I’ve made a terrible mistake? I mean, if he sent that offer, I would have gladly accepted… but because I sent it and he accepted, I feel like he’s getting one over on me. It’s sick… it’s a sickness… I’m sick… am I the only one?
@Awesomus Maximus: Take a toke and relax, that’s a nice trade for you.
the Redsoxs would have been better off starting a postion player over Lackey today
@Adam: I streamed Gorz… and Pavano vs KC. Uh, not so good. They may think they can hit now. Cust Kayin’.
Grey
who would you take, all 3 on waivers
Asdrubal Cabrera, EverCab or Theriot?
@Awesomus Maximus: We don’t play this game because we’re not sick, sick human beings…
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Ha! Yeah, I should have specified, I only feel that way right after I find out it was accepted. I spend about five minutes looking over the players thinking, “What is he seeing that I’m missing?” But then I snap back to reality. Just wondering if anyone else plays that same, paranoid game.
@ Grey
Please rank Garcia’s potential (STL) on a tier of Nick Cage films:
(Great) KickAss/Raising Az, (Good) The Rock/Snake Eyes, (Ok) 8mm/Face Off, (Bad) Bangkock Dangerous.
Thanks
@Awesomus Maximus: That’s a great trade for you. Nolasco probably outperforms Garza, but maybe not! And J-UP is the best player in that deal, by a good margin.
Celebrate!
In fact, the trades I’m worried about are the ones that work out best, while the ones I think are steals always blow up in my face.
Also: @Grey This has been driving me nuts all weekend.
Last Friday’s Buy/Sell should have been headlined “All Your Bruce Are Belong to Us.”
I know, because I’ve had that song stuck in my head for three days now.

ike ikE iKE IKE! IKE! IKE!
The Ike Davis Hype Train is rolling full steam ahead!!!!!! LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Billingsley for Bruce or too much?
clay bucholz is sitting on the waiver wire in my 12 team mixed head to head league, i would consider dropping g.floyd, c.qualls or b.matusz for him….bad idea?
@Awesomus Maximus: That is a great trade for you, and you are most certainly not the only one who feels that way.
@PaddyTwoTimes: You didn’t ask me, but I love the idea of using the CCS (Cage Career Scale) to rank a player!

@Baron Von Vulturewins: i had nolasco and garza grouped pretty close together heading into my drafts, giving a slight edge to nolasco because of the AL east. however, garza appears to be well on his way to taking a major step forward after a solid breakthrough season last year.
btw, how genius does the delmon young for matt garza trade look for the rays? and imagine the twins staff if you had garza in there with baker/slowey/and a possibly bouncing back liriano?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: @Nathan: Thanks for the support… regarding the trade as well as the paranoia.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Yeah, being a video game ‘pert and overall gaming nerd, it bugged the hell out of me… but I didn’t want to nitpick over a post headline.
@Awesomus Maximus: Every time Matchstick Men comes on TV I’m always astounded by how solid it is. Sneaky good movie.
@Awesomus Maximus: Hope this did not double post.
But how could we not have a scale based on the most prolific actor of our generation? I would argue one of THE BEST, up there with Pacino, of all time.
Interesting that you like Adaptation. I would put it lower tier with Wickerman/Wind Talkers
Ike Davis Hype Train – if anyone needs to pick him to be your 1B dude your team has big problems

@mrbaseball:
Ha. Agreed. Just like my name sake from Goodfellas. Gotta get the papers, the papers.
Jose Reyes a legit buy-low candidate? I need help at SS.
missed getting Guillen for Alfonso on waivers…keep Fonz or give Krispie a shot…. ?
regardless of what Alfonso does, can you believe the Cubs owe 4 more years of 18.5 mil to him?
@thefaketom: I’d take Holliday.
@Lava: Sizemore for Cruz would be fair depending on need, but I’m not worried yet.
@and1mcgee: Think that’s the small sample size talking, for lack of a better word.
@Adam: I’d stream them all in certain circumstances.
@and1mcgee: Ha!
@cruisinkc: Nope
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I’d want Hamilton.
@cashmoney: Asdrubal
@PaddyTwoTimes: The Rock
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ha! My bad.
@Ben: It’s okay, probably can go a bit lower.
@More Hawpes Please: Lose Floyd.
@Awesomus Maximus: Yeah, I like it too. But I agree with your levels more.
@mrbaseball: Ha!
@GTS: Sure
@dingers: Hold tight.
@PaddyTwoTimes: I find that a lot of people underrate Adaptation. I’m a fan of good writing, and for my money, Charlie Kaufman is second to none… and Adaptation is his pièce de résistance. How can you not love a script that earns an Oscar nomination for a fictional character (Donald Kaufman)?
I’m loaded with starting pitching and am concerned about batting average and power going forward. Would you guys trade Reyes and Verlander in return for Morneau, Manny, and Alcides Escobar?
@Awesomus Maximus: You’re a video game pert?
If so, what have you heard, if anything, about 3 Dot Hero and what is the deal with the new splinter cell.
I know folks, not baseball related, but how often you get to talk to a vid pert?
@Grey: Which side do you prefer (in a vacuum) for a deep league:
Josh Johnson, Yunel Escobar, Jorge Cantu
OR
Verlander, Jose Reyes
@mrbaseball: Or you’re in a 20 team league and running Nick Johnson right now.
@Mike D: Josh Johnson side
I currently have Span, Soriano, and Headley sitting on my bench. What kind of SP should I be looking back for in return for one of them or if I add in a closer also?
Borbon just fell on the rocks that are waivers…12 team league with only 3 OF…I currently have FraGu as my only backup OF, worth dropping Ian Kennedy or FraGu for Julio?
@PaddyTwoTimes:
3 Dot Hero hasn’t gotten many reviews, but of the ones it has the big guys (Game Informer, IGN, and GamePro) have given it 85,85, and 90- respectively.
I played the Splinter Cell demo and wasn’t impressed. i spoke to my friend, however, and he said the demo level was trash, and that the full game was a 100x better. It’s gotten really favorable reviews, and they say it’s gotten the franchise back on track, but it’s not the best one.
@MrBaseball – don’t mistake my hype train for a fantasy pick up.
I’m just a disgruntled Mets fan looking for any glimmer of hope.
In this case – the hope is named Ike “Playing because the Mets are the only MLB team to somehow screw up in finding a decent 1B hitter” Davis
@Eddy:
Thanks for the info Eddy. I am pretty pumped about 3Dot hero
@William:
Well, I think I said this already but, yeah, when your 1b options are guys like Tatis, you really got nothing to lose playing the rook.
@Awesomus Maximus: @PaddyTwoTimes:
http://www.cracked.com/blog/lets-play-nicolas-cage/
@Howard: Nope
@Mike D: Verlander side
@Dynasty27: How about Slowey…
@Adam: I’d lose FraGu, but he could have more value than Borbon, but Borbon is a better flier.
EDIT: Word.
@brad: That shit is hilarious.
How dare they make a mockery of Nick Cage’s career. Wickerman did suck though.
Fowler, Reyes and Pods not playing today/tonight (depending on your time zone).
Pods is tending to a family emergency apparently. Perhaps his wife needed an urgent rub-down.
@Steve: Who wouldn’t run back home to rub down Pod’s wife?
@Steve: Hehe… The roundup tomorrow will have a good one for Pods, courtesy of Rudy Gamble.
I didnt read all 307 comments to see if it was reported but thank for Felix Pie for potentially being out up to three months.
Heel up Achilles!!!!!!!!!
Would you rather have Borbon or Damon as your backup OF in a 6×5+ops?
@Sal: Seriously.
@Mojo the Helper Monkey: Borbon
@Grey: Jump back on board Reimold where it’s practical to do so?
Baltimore LF Felix Pie could miss up to three months with an injury to his latissimus dorsi muscle, reports MASNSports.com on Monday after Pie took an MRI.
@Steve: Sure
@Sal: Thanks for the update!
@Awesomus Maximus: Yes, definitely. I like to call it Buyer’s Remorse, but I think it’s something much more personal and troubling.
Theriot dropped from 1st to 8th. Somebody dropped Desmond today – is he a better choice?
@GTS: That move might only be against LHP, but probably depends on needs…Theriot for speed/avg, Desmond for power/speed combo
the cano owner in my league is going after my gallardo. is my weeks+gallardo for his cano too optimistic?
Looking to get a catcher since Montero went down. I can’t really afford to keep a catcher in my DL spot. Was thinking of trading Hudson for Soto. Fair, too much, too little?
12 team mix keeper league, first year, keep players for 3 yrs. i need avg and have plenty of power. pena and stewart for teixeira? got philips and wright at 2b and 3b so stewart is wasting on my bench and will probably cool off. gracias.
@gregory: do it if the other guy will take it. it feels sort of like my proposal above, using a couple of guys with moderate value to get a first or second round type usually doesn’t work.
@BKK: who’s in FA pool? is hudson your worst player?
@Awesomus Maximus: I concur on Adaptation. I worked on his latest blockbuster, “Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Should be about on par with his remake of “Wicker Man.” Yeah that good.
@3FingersBrown: Please tell me he has a mustache though.
For my 2B/SS/MI slots I have Phillips, Kinsler, Ian Stewart, Kelly Johnson, and Theriot. I have Phillips at 2B, Theriot at SS, and Ian Stewart at MI. When Kinsler comes back I move Stewart to CI and Headley to OF or UTIL (which I don’t want to do) or I can trade Phillips for Reyes maybe and drop Theriot and then I will have Kinsler at 2B, Reyes at SS, and Stewart at MI. Either way I have some good players on my bench and a crappy SS so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
At a time when there is a problem with the pace of games and guys are still injecting themselves with things they shouldn’t, it’s heartening to learn that MLB is bringing its not inconsiderable influence to bear on the things that really matter:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rays-maddon-nohoodie
@PaddyTwoTimes: ‘fraid not. With H/MU done, he looked like Jack Sparrow. Hey I forgot my all time favorite Nick Cage flick: “Wild At Heart!” I’m hoping Garcia’s “hotter than Georgia asphalt.”
@Grey:
Nolan Reimold or Corey Hart?
@PaddyTwoTimes: Not that kind of video game ‘pert… I’m a strategy guide author (if you’ve ever purchased a BradyGames video strategy guide on Xbox Live, you’ve probably heard my voice =). That said, I keep up with gaming, but I don’t have any “insider info” if that’s what you’re after.
3D Dot Game Heroes looks like an extremely cool merging of modern with classic, both in terms of gameplay and visual style. If I used my PS3 for anything other than Blu-Ray movies, I’d probably throw it in and give it a whirl.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Splinter Cell games, as they bore me with their “snail’s pace” gameplay, so the overhaul Conviction offers intrigues me. But I’m also not a fan of online multiplayer gaming (I prefer to multiplay against people I’m in the same room as), so the lack of depth in the single player experience will most likely keep me away until it’s in the bargain bin.
Napoli just got dropped, worth a pick up? Its a 14 team league and I have barajas now…
@Awesomus Maximus: Oh that is a sick job!
@Awesomus Maximus. That’s pretty cool. I suppose I own some of your work. I used to do QA for Acclaim. Worked on NBA Jam. “Boomshakalaka!”

Hudson is not my worst player probably my worst pitcher and the guy that has Soto also has McCann and he needs pitching. Is uppose I could offer up a better pitcher and try to get McCann.
@GTS: Agree with Adam.
@brad: Eh… I’d want Cano.
@BKK: Too much really. Soto compared to a waiver wire catcher isn’t that great.
@gregory: I’d take Tex.
@Steve: Maddon was too street.
@Eddy: Reimold
@Sham-Wow!: Eh, you don’t want to carry two.
@paulzone: Furcal

7/10 for runs, 5/10 sbs, 3/10 gidp, 2/10 avg, 5/10 obp, 10/10 hrs, 8/10 errors, 8/10 rbis. looks like i need a SS with avg/obp with some speed for sbs and no gidp. a leadoff type that will score some runs. Furcal fits the bill as Grey suggested above. Those goose eggs in hr/rbi ruins a nice line, but I guess i missed out on hanley!
@Paulzone: With all do respect, Furcal’s injury history scares me. I’d take Aybar.
@Awesomus Maximus: I think you’ll have to wait until Xmas for Sorcerer. It was just finished. It’s going to be a gigantic $250 mil turd. Kids movie really, so I’m not it’s audience.
@3FingersBrown: Aww… man! I just finished up “Hard Candy”, “Nosferatu” and “Kingdom of Heaven: Director’s Cut”… and I’ve got Kurosawa’s “Ran” in the hopper. I’m gonna’ be in need of a steaming pile very soon. Don’t make me have to watch “Crossroads” (Britney Spears, not Ralph Macchio… though I’m not sure it really matters).
@Awesomus Maximus: Need a stinker? You can’t get stinkier than Cage’s Wicker Man. It’s on par with the remake of Island of Doctor Moreau as far as great movie catastrophes.
I give Johan/Nelson Cruz get Verlander/J Upside Keeper?
Gotta take?
@3FingersBrown:
But his head is in a Cage!
@Hugo:
I think so….
@grey- what do you think of reid brignac. He’s playing well but the PT isnt fully there yet.
Wright has played like trash the last 3-4 games. He’s killing me.
drop Quentin for Dunn?
12 team league with $10 transacton fees and one DL spot allowed, I DL’ed Montero and picked up Martin in his place. I also have Rollins, so I dropped Montero, DL’ed Rollins and picked up NAS (next available schmuck) Erick A E I O U Bar. Rollins is due back in a week or 4 so no big deal. My question is once rollins is back….would you aggressively seek Montero over Martin for another $10 or are their “just a catcher stats” close enough to just ride Martin. My offense is balanced so 8 bombs here versus 10 steals there couple runs over couple rbi’s won’t really matter too much i suppose
@madx34: $10 in real life??
@gopherday….yes what do you play for? i am in 3 leagues like that. one is $300 to enter and the other 2 are $150. Transactions are done on Mondays only.
@madx34:
Martin’s historically very good in the 1st half. I was in the same boat as you with Montero and also replaced him with Martin. My plan is to hold Martin til June and then see about maybe looking at one of the young Stud C like Santana, or pick back up Montero to replace Martin before Torre overworks him.
Basically, you don’t really want Martin after the ASB.
@Elijah: Not the bees!
@madx34: I had to drop Miggy too when I had a rash of injuries. Unfortunately he was picked up almost immediately. Now I’m just waiting for Santana’s call up to save face. Bad knees are bad for catchers. I’d hold Martin. We don’t know what we’ll get out of Montero going forward this year. I can be he’ll get a lot of rest either way.
so options are to rebuy montero a week or two early or keep an eye on santana who might be weiterish circa 2009. i think i will go with investing in a rebuilt and fresher montero—make sense? perhaps crapoli will morph back to napoli by then
@Grey: Of those 6 pitchers in post #336, who would you offer then for McCann.
@madx34:
Montero is a good bet if his knee is fine. Torn Meniscus really isnt anything that should linger, and the Dbacks lineup looks poised to score a lot of runs.
@Hugo: Yeah, gotta.
@Martin: Outside of AL-Only he needs full PT.
@Eddy: Yeah, try owning Jason Bay.
@chilidavis: Nope
@madx34: Go back to Montero, assuming he’s there.
@BKK: Probably have to give at least Bills, maybe Garza. I wouldn’t bother.
@Grey:
Bay’s doing better than Markakis. He’s killing me. He’s so bad I haven’t even wanted to mention it.
@Elijah: Just traded for Markakis in one league. I was saving talking about it until there was something to say with Markakis.
SAGNOF alert. Conor Jackson was DLed today. Gerardo Parra is in line for more playing time.
CoJack to 15 day DL with a hammy strain. Parra will replace him and LaRoche is back at 1b.
@Grey:
I’m being paitent with him but I’d love to even 1 HR. That whole team is in the doldrums. 3 fingers typing faster than me with 5 btw.
Davis looking good, 2 singles and an RBI so far. Other out was a 380 ft flyball to right center. As Cohen said, his swing looks similar to Olerud. Good plate coverage. Manual says he’s here to play every day.
To bad he’s not even in the Yahoo system. I’d grab him in my 15 team league. When do they roll over? 2am?
Wait it’s Lester/ J-up for Johan/Cruz. Lost my constant…..
Still have to?
@3FingersBrown:
Alright fine I picked him up too, can’t resist.
@3FingersBrown: Thanks for the heads up!
@Elijah: I hear ya.
@3FingersBrown: He’ll go into waivers anyway.
@Hugo: The other trade was in the sideways world? I’d want Upton’s side.
@Elijah: I’d say they’ve been equally horrible… but at least Markakis hasn’t had any games at Coors where he didn’t hit a home run. That and expectations for Bay are a little higher, so I’d give the edge to Bay in the “suck” column. Oh yeah, and Bay plays half his games at Metco, so I’m expecting the suck to continue.
(full disclosure: I’m a Markakis owner and repeated Bay trade offer decliner, so I’m totally grasping for any justification straws I can reach)
@Grey: Dude, even I can’t tell what’s going on anymore
Ike&Tina Davis- looks like Ike knows a little about hitting as he gave the baseball a beating tonight
@Awesomus Maximus:
Bays got 8 RBI and a SB, at least hes doing SOMETHING. Im being paitent as I said but if I had to pick one guy who’s underperforming the most its him for me.
Mini Donkey getting hot this week. Another 2 key RBI’s.
@Awesomus Maximus: Bay hit a hard double off the wall- perhaps he is coming out of it.
@Awesomus Maximus:
I dunno, I avoided all Mets in the draft this year, Bay wasn’t even on my board really.
@Elijah: Where do you see 8 RBI? I count 2. Bay has 2 more Runs (8-6) and 1 SB, but Markakis has a much higher BA (all prior to today’s games)… so I call it even.
@elijah
nor mine but i did get sucked into the jose reyes has value around pick 40 pick 50 pick 55 twice and missed him once. Can’t believe how that guy fell in drafts
hey grey what do you make of Brandon Morrow 8 K game tonight
@Awesomus Maximus:
Sorry I musta misread Runs for RBI. They are both being sucky, its pretty even.
@mrbaseball: Was just making of it in the roundup for ‘morrow. His next start doesn’t look good, but he’s worth grabbing in your 20 team league.
@Elijah: Likewise. I ended up with one Met in 9 leagues. I got Wright in my main league… not because I wanted him, but because I assumed that the die hard Mets fan in our league (who had already nominated and paid $6 for John Maine, not kidding) would bid higher than my $24 on Wright… mais non. I suppose I can stomach Wright for that price.
Flippy Lopez stole 2nd just to mock me. Bastid.
@Awesomus Maximus:
I think Wrights gonna be worth that np, he seems intent on having a good season and hes super-talented.
@Grey: Oh yeah. I was so drunk on Methusiasm I forgot. What would you bid on him? I’ve got $97 FAAB. $6-7?
@Elijah: I hear you. I’ve only just got Pelf in my 15 teamer. As a Mets fan, I know better.
@Elijah: See what I’m sayin’? Of course, Bay looked pretty decent today, so if Markakis 0fers again, the suck scales will tip in his favor.
@madx34: Oh yeah, totally forgot that I ended up with Reyes in one league. Same thing, put in a ridiculous $11 bid and no one pushed it up. Totally worth the risk at that price.
Grey, Borbon or Maybin the rest of the way?
mr grey I owned him and dropped him for Mike Pelfrey this week after his last performance – hey I still can pick him up again at the moment but Mike Pelfrey has not looked that bad – so twist my yahoo mouse
hey grey if I owned morrow today he would have not lasted 3 innings
Speaking of which, is Pelfrey a viable streamer tomorrow at Metco?

Wandy Rodríguez
Chad Billingsley
James Shields
Clay Buchholz
Mike Pelfrey
Madison Bumgarner
David Aardsma
Heath Bell
@3FingersBrown: What would I bid on who?
@Carl Spackler: Borbon has more upside, Maybin seems a bit safer. Depends what you can afford.
@mrbaseball: I know how you feel.
@Elijah: Sure
my hitters in 20 team dynasty league
1B Joey Votto
2B Casey McGehee
3B Adrián Béltre
SS Jhonny Peralta
Catcher on DL
OF Matt Kemp
OF Chase Headley
OF José Guillén – picked up when catcher went on DL
ultilty Carlos Quentin
bench – Shane Victorino
bench – Ian Desmond
bench – Cameron Maybin
DL – Jarrod Saltalamacchia
so grey do you have much hate for Mike Pelfrey – I am just looking for a 500 pitcher that won’t give up 7 runs a game for me here and there
all and all – my dynasty team went 18-5-5 in the first 2 weeks
@Grey: Ike Davis.
By the way, Jonathan Niese looked good tonight. 1 BB was intentional and he didn’t give up a lot of hard contact. Cutter looked good. Wouldn’t go near him yet but keep an eye on him.
@ mr baseball: i would go to bat with that team in my 16 teamer and be very happy
So I decided to take a flier on Ike in a league where I still had Gio sitting around from a spot start (no way I’m starting him against the Yanks). If he hits well whilst riding the pine, I think I will forego the classic “Sonavabench!” and instead call it an “Ike-arumba!”
@Awesomus Maximus: Nice, I like that one.
Grey & Fellow Razzballers-
Need some roster advice for my 12 team H2H dynasty league. Each team starts 2 catchers. Current catchers are Ianetta and Snyder (w/Montero in my DL slot). Should I consider dropping one for a waiver claim on Doumit?
Thanks!
@Bill Lumbergh: Meh… I think Iannetta will be serviceable until Montero returns. Just curious… someone dropped Doumit in a 2 catcher league? For who?
@Bill Lumbergh: I would prefer Doumit over Iannetta, I guess the question is should you use your waiver claim on a catcher?
Looking to add a SP, the following are on waivers, who should I take:
Pettitte
Masterson
Duchscherer
Pelfrey
@Grey:
Bay was my #1 drafted OF in the RCL. Sometimes I close my eyes and pretend Cantu and Bay switch stats so I can justify that pick.
If it weren’t for Nelson Cruz, idk what I’d do with my OF
@mrbaseball: Yeah, Pelfrey’s fine for now on your team.
@3FingersBrown: $6 seems fine in a mixed league. More for NL-Only. Also, you can click the arrow next to the timestamp to get the @ so it’s clearer for me what you’re responding to.
@Awesomus Maximus: That’s hilarious!
@Bill Lumbergh: Doumit over Snyder and Iannetta. Lose Snyder in a dynasty.
@MattW: Duchscherer
@Eddy: Yeah, very frustrating so far.
@Grey:
Is Carlos Santana worth rostering in a league where you own Wieters? Soto?

mrbaseball hot stream for monday – look at this match up
Doug Fister vs Brad Bergesen and then you can roll the dice when he gets his 2nd start later in the week against Danks
@Grey: Thanks. Will do. You guys watching MLB Channel? Plesac took extra crazy pills tonight. See what’s going on in Seattle? It’s early but Kust Cayin’
@3FingersBrown:
I think the Orioles are just miserable right now is all. They could lose 100 games.
@Elijah: You gotta’ have SOMETHING working to take a no-hitter into the 7th. Not saying dem O’s don’t suck, cust kayin’.
This makes no sense at all but….Rodrigo Lopez has Pujols #.
@Awesomus Maximus:
You’re right. But the Orioles are a wounded duck atm.
Hey… my boy Markakis comes through! Thanks for not going 0fer, and double-thanks for letting me go to bed knowing I won’t miss out on a no-hitter.
@3FingersBrown: Yeah, looking real solid.
@Eddy: Eh
@Elijah: Ha!
The Doug Fister is filthy again tonight.
@Elijah: O’s are all types of awful atm but 10 innings of straight no hit ball is still pretty impressive. I wrote something about him the other day. If I didn’t have Myers with good matchups, I’d have taken him. Groundball pitcher with good D behind him. Someone grabbed him this morning in my 15 team.
@Elijah: Pujols looked really bad in that K. Weird how some match ups go.
# 406 Eddy Says:
Is Carlos Santana worth rostering in a league where you own Wieters? Soto?
I would just be happy with Wieters as my catcher – but thats me
Fister or Morrow?
@mrbaseball:
Yea, as am I. I’m glad I got him in my money league and am glad he’s not hitting below 5th unlike Soto. But I think a part of me is buying into the Santana hype, but more for trading purposes if anything.
@Grey:
My boy Pineiro comes thru again. Heh.
@3FingersBrown:
Pujols is 0 for 8 lifetime vs Lopez, makes no sense but I’ll take it.
@Grey:
I want to get a middle-of-the-pack type guy for my staff and am aiming for Scott Baker. Is Ervin Santana and Clay Buchholz equal? Too much, too little?
@Eddy:
Go for the gusto, go Pineiro.
Damn you Bell.
@Elijah:
I must admit I’m not sure what you’re trying to say lmao
@Elijah:
Ok wait I got it. Well thing is the Baker owner has NO closers. I have 4 and Johnson is in FA pool. I can REALLY milk that.
Im just enjoying my Pineiro stream, dont mind me.
@Eddy:
Go for it then
All right I offered Buchholz, Lindstrom, and Mike Gonzalez. I know it’s pretty lowball, but I wanna buy as low as I possibly can.
@royce!: Fister
@Eddy: I’m not sure how much a closer means to a guy who doesn’t even pick up one off waivers. Not sure I follow your question either. So you have Ervin and Buchholz and want to trade them both for Baker or one and which one? If the latter, Buchholz for Baker. Both? Seems like a lot.
@Grey:
Sorry for the lack of clarity. But The owner I’m trading with has no closers. Only Jim Johnson is on the waivers but they don’t know that. I offered him Lindstrom, Mike Gonzalez, and Buchholz for Baker. Planning on picking up Johnson if he accepts
@Eddy:
I think you need some tougher leagues. Using Grey vs average Joes is almost cheating!
@Elijah:
I can’t help it!
Stupid Pineiro has tidied up all the terrible work done by Bannister in my Razzball league.
FraGu left the game in the 7th with tightness in his groin…
