FAQ: Click here.

Razzball Hittertron:  This tool is designed to identify attractive short-term hitter pickups and to determine when to start/sit hitters on your roster.  (For Daily Fantasy Baseball games, check out DFSBot)  The higher the $ value, the more attractive the start.  Hitter-Tron projections rely on Steamer Rest of Season projections as a foundation and then adjust based on several game-specific factors that include quality of opposing starting pitcher, hitter’s performance vs. the handedness of opposing starting pitcher, park factors, whether the game is home or away, and predicted batting order spot (for Runs, RBIs, and Plate Appearances).

What Is The Expected Accuracy Of Hittertron Projections?:  Please see the Razzball Ombotsman for correlations betweeen the Hittertron projections and actual stats.

Filtering Results:  You can filter multiple fields at the same time.  The text fields below the column headers enable several methods for filtering the data.  Here are some examples:

Function Symbol Example Explanation
ANY MATCH ‘B’ in Pos Typing B in Pos will filter to any player with 1B, 2B, or 3B eligibility.  Type in more details to filter further – e.g., “1B’, “1B, 3B”, etc.
OR | 2B|SS Requires exact match on both sides – so 2B|SS returns anyone who has 2B or SS eligibility but not anyone with 2B/SS, 2B/3B, etc.
NOT ! !OF All players who do not have OF eligibility.
NOR ! | !1B|OF All players who do not have 1B eligibility NOR OF eligibility.  Just use the ! once.
GREATER THAN > >30 in $ All players whose $ is greater than 30.  Does not work for Date.
LESS THAN < <30 in $ All players whose $ is less than 30.  Does not work for Date.
GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO >= >=30 in $ All players whose $ is greater than or equal to 30.  Does not work for date.
LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO <= <=30 in $ All players whose $ is less than or equal to 30.  Does not work for Date.

Position Eligibility – 20 Games in last season for ESPN and ’2 Catcher’ formats.   5 Games for Yahoo.

$ Values – A hitter’s projected stats for the game are multiplied by 150 and then valued for a 12-team MLB league using the ESPN/CBSSports roster format (13 hitters, 9 pitchers) and a $260 team budget.  While the $ values would vary for any other league format, we would expect the rankings to remain relatively the same.  The ‘$U’ estimate is position-neutral and is the value to use when looking at players for Utility slots.  We have found this is the key $ value for ‘Daily’ roster changes.  Position-adjusted $ can be found in the Weekly Hittertron and in the Hittertron projection on the player pages (accessible by clicking on the player name).

%Start – This is the estimated percentage that a player will start in a game.  This takes recent playing time into account including the handedness of the pitcher for platoon hitters.  It does not take day-to-day injuries into account – either for the injured player or the fill-in player.  Recently called up players who are not undisputed starters may take a couple weeks before their playing time estimate matches reality (until then it’s underestimated).  More info can be found in this post.

Own% –  Based on ownership within the Razzball Commenter Leagues which consists of 84 12-team MLB leagues using the standard ESPN roster format.

I have paid for the subscription but I can’t get the full version to come up. Do I need to go to a different page?

    Thanks

@The Dutchmen: This still isn’t working. I have tried it on 2 different computers with the same problem. It says I’m logged in. Any ideas?

          • @The Dutchmen: What browser(s) have you tried? Seems like IE is causing some issues. If not IE, make sure third-party cookies are enabled.

Not working.. I paid for one year since May last year..
Supposedly it can work now but it’s not…

    • @Wilson: Hi wilson, the subscriptions run for the season. Not calendar 12 months. So you need to re-up for 2016.

Last year I could put my players side by side with a bar between them like so:

    Russell Martin|Brandon Belt|Robinson Cano|Javier Baez|Troy Tulowitzki|Christian Yelich| J.D. Martinez|kike Hernandez|Rougned odor|Steven Souza|Maikel Franco|Yoenis Cespedes|Devin Mesoraco|Jung Ho Kang

This would make the hittertron display only my team but it won’t this yea. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks!

    • It still works. Looks like you have a double space between Russell and Martin.

hello, yes I am having same issues in trying to define the search (for ex. typing COL under team and no info coming up). It looks like the is a space in the beginning of whatever box you type your search in that i can not back space on?..

    Rudy,

I’m unable to get multiple names to show for “tomorrow’s” hitter tron.

    albert pujols|danny santana|brandon belt|brett lawrie|giancarlo stanton|george springer|justin upton|jacoby ellsbury|oswaldo arcia|nolan arenado|yasmani grandal|corey seager|jarrod dyson

i also tried just typing in two names with the bar still nothing due

    thanks for reviewing my issue

    • @dudeman: yes, i can confirm this isn’t working w/ the new plugin update. i’ll have our developer look into it. the | separator works in the other columns so i suspect the space in player’s names is derailing the query.

Does Hittertron factor in stolen base success vs pitcher?

Bradley 244 and Holt 327 versus lousy RHP Severino in Yankee Stadium? Will be starting them and watching.

    • Severino has not been great to start the year but Steamer still likes him. Not enough to start him this game (<$4) but enough that guys hitting lower in lineup like Holt/Bradley have little value. Especially since Yankee pen is strong.

I’ve been frequently taking the advice of Hittertron and starting Pedro Alvarez, and obviously I’m disappointed in his performance. I’m wondering in general if Hittertron is potentially overstating the value of left handed hitters with big splits against RHP (guys like Alvarez, Lind, Moss) because they frequently get pinch hit for late in games and lose PAs, and also may only face the starting pitcher twice and may face LHP later. I’m sure these factors are being accounted for in some way, but it just seems like I start these guys and they often either end up facing a LHP in 1-2 ABs later in the game, or get taken out for a pinch hitter.

    • it feels like it’s been a bad year for some of these platoon LH bats as Lind killed it last year vs RHP and has had issues.

i am not factoring in likelihood to be pinch-hit for at this time and that is a variable which would hurt these guys. i’ll get to that at some point (it’s a tricky one).

Thanks for the quick reply, Rudy. One more question: Does hittertron factor in expected number of plate appearances vs the SP and expected number of plate appearances vs RP, and the quality and handedness of those RPs? Just trying to think of other factors that would inflate these guys.

        • Yes, Hittertron factors SP vs RP estimated PA and RP weights RHP and LHP based on expected usage. Take a look at Lind’s stats vs RHP last year and you will see it isn’t far-fetched. Also remember that Alvarez is a plus-power guy moving from a stingy HR park to a generous one. Just feast/famine with him because of his K rate

          • we awoke the beasts! Lind 3-run jack. Alvarez RBI double!

Odor still missing from hittertron. Just a heads up. Thanks

    • @dmv: that’s b/c i use Degree. it activates upon body heat! (inactive players show up either the next day or once they are part of today’s posted lineup)

hittertron currently showing tomorrow’s hitters (6/7, actually today) as hitting against their OWN pitchers, so some accidental tweak probably made.

@goodfold2: sorry, i have that date wrong, 6/8 is showing what i said though, so harper against scherzer etc.

Hey Rudy, for some reason, Peter O’brien shows up when you don’t filter a category and just look at ALL hitters, but when you search his name, he can’t be found. Is this something that can be fixed?

    Thanks as always!

    • ohbilly2134 says:
      (link)

      @ohbilly2134:

Oh, just realized you can find him if you type in “Brien”. I guess for whatever reason, Hittertron doesn’t recognize the first letter + apostrophe.

    • i think it’s something to do with the apostrophe. The table plugin might convert it into some weird character.

  14. Streamer says:
    (link)

If you were to stream 1 OF position daily and only choose your candidates from those on the Hittertron with a $20 value or greater, would that give you approximately the same total outcome ($) as having a player who is ‘worth’ $20? In other words, is a $20 Hittertron value the same as a $20 player on average? And the same for Streamonator? Just a thought.
    Thanks

    Yulieski Gurriel?

    • @Tim: weird glitch today in reference file had him as a free agent vs Astro. he’s being added now.
