With visions of a goat, Bartman and a fat man, the Cubs traded for Rich Harden. The Cubs are so my neighbor that bought a Prius after I bought my Saab. Seriously, Cubbies, why don’t you build a bigger extension onto the side of your house too? Then when I have a Fourth of July party, I can urinate in your tomatoes. Wait, what was I saying? Oh, yeah, Rich Harden! Harden’s never pitched 200 IP in a season. He came close four years ago with 189.2. Since then Harden’s innings pitched look like this: 128, 46.2, 25.2 and 77 thus far this year. I guess it’s a good sign that he got over that 46.2 hump. If the Cubs plan to play late into October, then he’ll be way over 200. From a fantasy baseball prospective, this all means little. Harden goes to a less-friendly park, but a new league that isn’t familiar with him. That’s a push. His stuff is certifiably nasty, but he still can hurt himself sneezing. You know what Harden is? He’s untradeable. I just wrote this last Friday when I said Harden was a Sell, “Not sure who you’re selling (Harden) to…” The Cubs, I suppose. How do the Cubs make this move? They traded for a guy my 12 year old cousin, Little Stevie, wouldn’t touch and Aunt Caroline used to drink while pregnant with him! I like Gaudin and Gallagher better and I will be bidding a few dollars on them in deep leagues. I even like Murton better. If the Cubs waited two weeks to make this trade, it probably wouldn’t have happened because Harden will probably be on the DL. I’m going to make a prediction, Harden hits the DL and the Cubs end up slotting in Gaudin who turns into a quality pitcher and ends up starting in the playoffs. Anyway, here’s what I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Ben Sheets/CC Sabathia – Now that the Cubs can match their frail righty (Harden) and tubby flamethrower (Zambrano), will the Cardinals ask the Yanks for Ponson back to team up with Carpenter later this year?

Bobby Jenks – Hater Bell was mystified last week when Karabell told everyone (who pays for ESPN’s Hindsighter™) to bank on Jenks. Jenks has been reporting back pain for over a week. Linebrink (or Thornton or Dotel) will step in and get some saves. This didn’t seem like rocket science to me, but maybe it was for Karabell. Now Jenks heads to the DL. Well, dur.

Miguel Cabrera – 2 HRs yesterday. In three years, you’ll be telling someone about how Cabrera wasn’t good for you back in ’08 and they’ll look at his stats and say, “Nuh-uh.” And then you’ll say, “Didn’t the Martians say we couldn’t use the phrase, ‘Nuh-uh? Busted!'”

Mike Pelfrey – Another quality start (7 IP, 3H, no ER).  Granted, it was against the Giants, but still…. Actually, I’m still not buying into Pelfrey.

Mike Aviles – 4-for-7 or as I like to say, “Khalil Greene has only had two 3 hit nights all year.” What I also could’ve said, “Greene is 3-for-22 in July.” Which means, “I hate Tulo for making me play Greene in a deep league.”

Aubrey Huff/Joe Crede – How do these guys have 34 HRs between them (18 for Huff, 16 for Crede)?  Those would’ve been our over/unders for their full season totals.  Maybe ex-Devil Ray Huff is getting some of the good fortune befitting his old team.  Wait…Jorge Cantu is having a hell of a season.  How come Delmon hasn’t gotten the memo?  As for Crede, we give up.  He’s like the younger Mike Lowell.  He can hit .250 or .300.  15 HR or 35 HR.  Play 150 games.  Play 60 games.  Nothing surprises anymore.  Hear that.  You can’t surprise us any more.

Randy Wolf – Another quality Petco start with 7 IP of 1 ER ball.  He’s like a wolf when he pitches at home and like Randy Wolf when he pitches away.

Alexis Rios – I missed the Jays last night because I was watching “I Love Money.” (Bee tee dubya, it’s a new reality show high. They’ve brought back 15 of the “best” reality show contestants who were looking for money while they were supposedly looking for love. Only now they are being open about it being all for money, but it looks like some inadverently fall in love. However, the first time it was obvious they were only interested in money and some fell in love anyway. It’s like a Möbius strip of nonsense. But I digress.) So all I saw of the Jays was this scroll, “Rios scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth…” I was like, “Aw, sookie. Triple, Double? Single?” It was a walk.

Jair Jurrjens – 6 IP, 6 Ks, 1 ER, the win and the saving grace for the proud people of Curaçao.

Brian McCann/Geovany Soto – They are having nearly identical seasons. Brianvany SotoCann should totally switch Varsity jackets and see if their dates notice.

Dustin McGowan – I warned people about McGowan’s overuse last season. Yesterday, he exited early for an MRI. Quick math problem: An MRI + Overuse = 15-day DL that gets extended to 30 days.

Chase Headley – 24 Ks/0 walks. He’s really not much better than Bruce, it just seems it because it’s a little less feast or famine (which is, like, soooooo American of you to like Headley more. It’s the middle class.)

Ryan Dempster/Justin Duchscherer – 16 IP, 4 hits allowed and 1 ER. Combined. If you made us GM for a year, we’d turn all the relievers into starters.  Except Gagne.  We’d turn him into a team mascot like the Quazy Quebecois.

Aaron Harang – Fuck you.

And another hr for Chris Davis!..that guy is seriously all or nothing as proven by his consistent 1/4 days with the only hit being a homerun

  2. Steve says:
    (link)

Guys – Davis just got dropped in my league. I have Howard at 1B and Tex at Util. There’s no point to picking him up is there?

  3. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@Steve: Yes there is!, pick him up. How can you argue with 7R /5HR/ 10RBI in 37 at bats. You telling me you cant use that? I dunno if youve seen this guy hit yet but he can really swing that bat. Plus he hits in the best lineup in baseball. He is going to be great, maybe not this year just yet but in a year or 2 this kid will be great.

  4. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

I have Jered Weaver going today. Hes been pitching very well of late but im nervous trotting him out there against Texas in Texas. I gotta bench him today….no?

  5. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

Although I just looked at his line the last time he pitched against Texas earlier in the year and he did very well…. 7IP/3Hits/6K’s After seeing that, now im confused.

  6. Steve says:
    (link)

@wakeNbake: You know that Chris D is gonna get him!

No doubt I could use those numbers, but tell me how I can slot him in around Howard and Tex.

BTW, Wednesday is nearly over where I am (but still a relatively civilised hour) – why are you up at this time?

  7. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@Steve: I too have Howard who I use at 1B, I use Davis as my 2ndUTIL. If you have a 2UTIL league he is very useful. If your in a 1UTIL league then I see your problem, im just sayin you could regret not adding him. Im in New York, Wednesday just started over here… its a little after 7am right now.

  8. Mike says:
    (link)

Would you add Dotel and drop Wheeler or stick with Wheeler for now?

  9. SaltyBiscuits says:
    (link)

    @Grey

You should start buying into Pelfrey… he is a completely different pitcher this year. He always had the stuff but never put it together, he has looked pretty masterful lately.

  10. Zebo says:
    (link)

@Grey: is Filthy Sanchez a safe start tonight at Shea?

  11. Zebo says:
    (link)

@everyone: I still own Harang, and I don’t plan to drop him yet. He did report some elbow tightness or some elbow stiffness a couple days ago and actually skipped a start, and last night he pitched against the red hot cubs. If Lincecum had Harang’s line last night, you’d all be saying, it’s just a rough night, the boy’s fine. But it’s Harang, and everyone is panicking.

  12. Baron Von Vulturewins says:
    (link)

@Zebo: He’s been sucking all year though, no? If Lincecum was sucking all year, the reaction would be the same.

@Steve: Depends how deep your league is, but you’re not going to start Davis over either of those guys, ever, unless he wakes up one day and is Eric Davis.

@ everyone: Cueto @ Chicago Cubs? I think I know the answer already, and it puts the “no” in “know.”

    @ The World: Viva Aviles!

  13. Mike says:
    (link)

@Zebo: to quote Grey…. “FUCK HARANG”

  14. Mike says:
    (link)

If the Rockies trade Yorvit…. is Iannetta instantly a better option than A.J, they have pretty similar numbers and Iannetta has 150 fewer at bats.

  15. Mike says:
    (link)

Im guessing Iannetta would be their full time catcher if Yorvit gets traded.

  16. p0rk burn says:
    (link)

@Mike: Your guess would be correct, sir. I like Iannetta over AJ.

  17. IowaCubs

@Baron Von Vulturewins: I’m starting Cueto at the Cubs vs. Zambrano…and I’m a Cubs fan! This was totally by accident. I set my lineup on Sunday thinking that Marquis would be starting Tuesday. Whoops.

Something’s wrong with Harang. I think that perhaps the 800 innings over the last three years might have something to do with it. Either way, I’m still trading for him this week.

  18. Tony B. says:
    (link)

A plethora of questions for you…

Drop O-Dog for Alexei Ramirez who now has SS eligibility in my league? I wouldn’t be asking this question if not for Furcal morphing into a giant pussy.

Drop Votto for Aubrey Huff? Votto hasn’t been too awful but Huff has just been obscene and has 1B/3B eligibility in my league.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I really like Sean Gallagher and I think he will do very well in Oakland. I really do think Billy Beane knew what he was doing yet again.

Final question. I currently have Doumit. If Torrealba is dealt, Ianetta becomes the main man behind the dish in Colorado. Would you make the switch between Doumit and Ianetta?

  19. Mike says:
    (link)

@Tony B.: I had the same question about Iannetta over A.J…. im thinking of adding him even if Yorvit isnt dealt.

  20. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

Grey, Im currently scouring my free agent pool looking for a McGowan replacement. Can you see any of these pitchers having a good 2nd half…. Brett Myers, Ubaldo, Greg Smith, Gil Meche or Jo-Jo.

  21. Tony B. says:
    (link)

    @ Mike:

I’d go with Ianetta over A.J. personally.

  22. Mike says:
    (link)

@Tony B.: would you even make the move if Yorvit isnt traded?

  23. Denys says:
    (link)

Weeks just got dropped for Ellis in my league… I’m thinking of dumping LaRoche to get him.
Also contemplating a dumping of Bruce for Headley (although it’s all the same).
Aviles is floating around too… ahh decisions, decisions.

  24. Denys says:
    (link)

Alright basically – pick three of the following: Chris Davis, Adam LaRoche, Jay Bruce, Chase Headley, Rickie Weeks, Mike Aviles…

  25. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@john: That’s what he does. Yup.

@Steve: Doesn’t sound like it if it’s between Davis and those guys.

    @wakeNbake: I wouldn’t start him. Texas=Coors South.

    @Mike: Stick with Wheeler.

@SaltyBiscuits: Are you a Mets fan?

@Zebo: Yes on Sanchez. I’m sticking with Harang too but he’s been miserable. IowaCubs might have a point too, Harang was overused for a long time.

@Baron Von Vulturewins: I’d start Cueto.

@Mike: AJ has 39/7/35/.293 Iannetta now has 22/9/33/.277 with more upside so my question is why would you want AJ now? The extra runs? Eh.

    @Tony B.: Alexei. Votto. Doumit.

    @wakeNbake: Ubaldo, Smith, Jo-Jo, punt.

@Denys: Weeks, LaRoche, Davis (at home), Aviles (elsewhere)

I just added Barry Bonds in three leagues, including the RCL and my oft-mentioned NL Only keeper. Barry’s been having talks with the Diamondbacks to replace Crash in left. I believe that I am the smartest person on the planet next to my dog, and she isn’t even a human if you catch my drift.

I want to hear it from everyone… IowaCubs: Genius or SuperGenius?

  27. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: Who are you Jimmy Neutron? What was your take on the Harden trade? Interested to know what Cubs fans think.

  28. wakeNBake says:
    (link)

@Denys: Let me save you my season long migraine which I named “Rickie Weeks”. He is the most unpredictable player Ive ever had on any fantasy team ever! One day hell get 3 hits on your bench so you figure OK let me give Rickie a shot and you start him for 3 or 4 games. In those 3 or 4 games he will go 0-15, then youll put him back on your bench and hell hit a homerun with 3RBI’s/2R’s and a stolen base. So then youll figure OK Rickie ill plug you back in my lineup. Guess what happens next…. how about another 0-10. The only way Rickie Weeks can be used is if you play him everyday and then he will totally murder your teams AVG. He will drive you mad! I highly recommend you look away from Rickie Weeks.

  29. p0rk burn says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: I desperately need HR help in the RCL. If Bonds signs with any team look for a trade offer coming your way.

  30. Tony B. says:
    (link)

    @ Mike:

I’d only make it if Yorvit was dealt.

  31. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

@Grey: Cubs fans in general are excited. I’m very nervous. Gallagher isn’t Dan Haren, but he very possibly could end up being just that, and the A’s knew exactly what they were getting when they traded for him. He’s a guy with less stuff than Harden, but will never break down.

I’m happy for Matt Murton, because he’s gotta be one of the most under-utilized and underappreciated redheads in the majors. I imagine that when he turns 28 in two years, he’s going to hit 25 hr and OPS what he should, something like .825 or so with regular playing time… prototypical Beane type guy.

…and I really think that the trade steal was Eric Patterson, who could be an All-Star at 2nd base if he could just figure out how to field. He’s a joke in the outfield, and I imagine the A’s will try to probably try to mold him into some sort of super-utility guy. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen him botch plays in left or center during games here in AAA… missed cutoff men, misjudged timing on line drives, etc. He’s not a bad 2nd baseman, and I hope that’s where he ends up, because most people believe that he has 20/20 potential with a better batting eye than KKCorey.

My prediction: The A’s won this trade big time. They release themselves of their own Mark Prior and gain 3 legit MLB-ready players, plus a future starting catcher. Gallagher is going to be a #2 starter for the A’s for the next 4 seasons, and Murton and Patterson will find a home with regular playing time. It hurts to admit this, but Harden is on the DL by August. I hope not, but I think that Hendry is so much in this “win now” attitude, that he was blinded by the Harden facts. (oh, SNAP!)

  32. wakeNBake says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: To me if your a Cubs fan you cant complain about this. You guys had to make a move after MIL got CC. In my opinion your a lock to go to the World Series with this move so dont get too crazy over losing Gallagher and Eric Patterson. Its about time you guys won one so this was a move you had to make in my opinion.

  33. Isn’t Ianetta already starting over Torrealba?

  34. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

@p0rk burn: Okay, but remember to thank me in your championship acceptance speech.

  35. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: Thanks for your thoughts. Very well said. I agree. Hendry is in a “win now” attitude because they can win now, but they would’ve won now without Harden. The one saving grace from the Cubs standpoint is the pieces they traded weren’t doing much right now. By the time this trade really looks like an A’s steal, it will have been forgotten.

  36. wakeNBake says:
    (link)

@Freak: yea but Yorvit still steals at bats from Iannetta. Its like a 70% – 30% situation in favor of Iannetta.

  37. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

@wakeNBake: I understand the rationale and agree with the trade as it was made. It’s an adequate deal for us, but in the long run, as always, Beane will win it, just like he won the Mulder for Haren (and others) deal and almost every deal he makes.

  38. wakeNBake says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: U cant argue that Billy Beane always knows what hes doing, he makes great trades. However if you guys win the World Series I dont care if Sean Gallagher turns into Nolan Ryan, it was still worth it. Thats how Id view it if it was my team that made the trade for Harden.

  39. Denys says:
    (link)

Barry “MFing” Bonds is a true pimp and a playa fo’ real. If his big head is swinging for the bleachers again I’m down for the ride… and my league counts OBP!

Just dropped Jay “Brucey” Bruce for him because I am that type of guy, and Bruce struck out on my team for the last time. Out with the new, in with the old!

…Chances are he doesn’t get signed and I dump Bonds for someone else, but I’m content with him riding my bench for now.

  40. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@wakeNBake: Winning the World Series cures all bad trades, that’s a given. But the Cubs just made a trade that doesn’t help them except in newspaper spin of saying, “Hey, they got CC, but we got Harden. If it doesn’t work out with Harden, that’s not our fault. We tried.” This is BS. Beane probably fell over himself getting rid of Harden. Imagine you had Harden in a keeper league where you had to keep him no matter what, or trade him. For the last four years, you’ve dealt with injury after injury and no one will go near him. Then someone’s going to win the league whether they trade with you or not and they offer you prospects for Harden, how quickly do you make this trade?

  41. wakeNBake says:
    (link)

@Grey: yeah I cant argue with that. Im sure ol’ Billy was salivating over the idea of getting prospects that he liked for a guy the whole league has labeled “injury prone” to the tenth degree. If you were a Cubs fan would you be upset tho? I dont think I would be. Zambrano/ Harden is as good of a 1-2 that I can think of (if they both stay healthy) of course. You gotta give Billy credit tho it definetely was the perfect time to move Harden, hes a great GM.

  42. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@wakeNBake: Beane is a genius, but I think the Moneyball philosophy has run its course because of steroids testing. The three run home run isn’t as prominent and steals are making a comeback.

  43. Denys says:
    (link)

@Grey: @wakeNBake: Gaudin was probably the clincher. As you mentioned in the blog – if Harden goes down, Gaudin likely takes his spot. It’s a low risk, high reward situation. If Harden stays healthy – Cubs added a quality pitcher, if he goes down – they plug in Gaudin and are back at where they were before the trade happened. It’s just sad to see them bank on this year because they gave up some good prospects to complete this. Money is not an issue because Tribune Company is dumping Cubs after this year, and the finances will be someone else’s headache.

  44. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

am I wrong in hoping that McGowan is done for the year? I have him on my team but I just want a solid reason to dump him already. Im tired of waiting for his supposed turnaround that he showed late last season.

  45. Cory says:
    (link)

What seems like ages ago I suggested you guys pick 2 from Ervin Santana, Scott Baker, Kuroda, and Jurrjens.

    The debate continues…

I ended up with Ervin and Baker. Baker I love, Ervin kinda sucks now.

I think you guys (well, one of you) chose Jurrjens and Baker. Would you like to change your pick for the 2nd half?

  46. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@wakeNbake: As I mentioned above and previously, he was way overworked last year. If you want permission, you got it.

  47. Nick says:

  48. Grey

    Grey says:

@Cory: Who’s you guys? Rudy and I? Did I choose Jurrjens instead of Ervin? That sounds like something I would’ve done. Please tell me it was me.

  49. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@Grey: I cant lie I thought you were wrong about him, you were not. F’in McGowan I hate you and your mutton chops. I guess Ubaldo Jimenez is going to have a new home on my team.

  50. Carl says:

    Aaron Harang – Fuck you.

    LoL…Razzball for the win!

  51. Nick says:
    (link)

What do you think of Rollins? I want to move him for Reyes but I’m going to have to give up alot and I don’t want to regret the move when Rollins turns things around for the second half of the season, what are the chances?

  52. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Nick: Rollins is a 20/30 hitter, that might fall short of those power numbers and exceed those steal numbers. Reyes is a game changer. In my opinion, Reyes is a top fantasy guy. He changes everything. I wouldn’t trade away the farm for him, but I would trade Rollins and a closer (or something equally replaceable) for him.

  53. Baron Von Vulturewins says:
    (link)

@Grey: I have it on very good authority that during the offseason between 06 and 07, the Mets tried to get Haren from the A’s for Lastings Milledge (who Beane’s long coveted). A’s countered with Harden. Mets declined.

This was from a very good inside baseball source I happened to meet, and it told me everything I ever needed to know about what people inside baseball think about Harden’s durability.

  54. Nick says:
    (link)

@Baron Von Vulturewins: Do you think Harden will go down during the 2nd half of the season for more than a month?

  55. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@Baron Von Vulturewins: all that tells me is that the Mets are idiots who make the worst trades ever.

  56. Zebo says:
    (link)

@Grey: even though Nomar hit a homer 2 nights ago, and is able to be 1B, SS, 3B eligible after tonight, I have decided to drop him for Chan Ho Park’s start at home against the Marlins. What are your thoughts?

  57. Denys says:
    (link)

@Baron Von Vulturewins: Right… because, as we can tell, the Mets make ALL the right decisions.

  58. Zebo says:
    (link)

@Grey: that cant be, because I don’t know who Bredan Harris is. Why you don’t like Chan Ho Park? I know you live in LA and know dodgers better than anyone. Is it cuz Chain Ho is his first name?

  59. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

The METS: same team who traded Scott Kazmir for Carlos Zambrano because they thought Kamir’s delivery would lead to injury. I would have gift wrapped Milledge to get Harden.

  60. Carl says:
    (link)

Grey what do you know about Teixiera? I have him in an NL only league that loses players when they get dealt to the AL. It looks like Boston and LAA are very interested in him? The Braves don’t seem to have the SP depth to compete so do you see them dealing him in the next 2 weeks since he’s a FA at the end of this season?

  61. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Zebo: “that cant be, because I don’t know who Brendan Harris is.” — Ha

Chan Ho is a disaster waiting to happen. You really don’t want him, and I’d actually want Nomar over him.

  62. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

@Grey: Not even for NL Only?

  63. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Carl: I would hold tight. I don’t think you should be moving players simply on speculation.

@IowaCubs: In NL-Only, I’d start him. But would still want Nomar ahead of him.

  64. Carl says:
    (link)

    @Grey:

But I could get something for him now, if he does get dealt to the AL I am screwed. I just don’t see the Braves hanging on to him all year. I can get Kent and a closer, plus I am pretty deep in my offense and can take the hit.

  65. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

Nomar’s owned by someone. It’s a crazy-deep league. As such, I expect the FAAB bidding to get upwards of $70 on CC, and $50 on Harden, so if I land one of those guys, I probably won’t start him.

Would you prefer Nomar as a MI over Baker or Theriot?

  66. Cory says:
    (link)

One of you definitely loved Jurrjens. I assume that was you

  67. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Carl: Guess it depends on how deep on offense, but I’d want more than Kent and a closer.

    @IowaCubs: No, I wouldn’t prefer Nomar.

  68. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Cory: Yeah, I have Jurrjens on three teams. I don’t think Rudy has him on any. Natch!

  69. Baron Von Vulturewins says:
    (link)

@Denys: Hey, I hope Harden is healthy all season, just because it would be fun to see what he can do. Getting injured again wouldn’t be disappointing, it would just be boring.

  70. Carl says:
    (link)

    @Grey:

I understand I should get more for Teixiera, but here is my reasoning. I have the number 1 waiver and am about to claim CC. Because of a prior deal, once I use it, I will swap my last waiver for another guy’s number 4, which will be 3 when I get CC. Now the guy in the 1 spot is going to take Harden, that means I will move up to 2. When the next offensive guy comes I will grab him. Everyone in our league is scared of Teixeira getting dealt I couldnt get anything for him, but at least I got a decent middle infielder with some pop plus Marte and Capps, so all in all, with the waivers and offensive depth I think I should be ok. Plus now I get to make some noise in a crowded saves category with 3 closers instead of 2. Like I said if he gets traded I get no compensation at all. At least I don’t have to worry about it in the back of my head.

  71. IowaCubs

    IowaCubs says:
    (link)

@Carl: I’m in an NL Only league right now, and I’m stuck with Atkins and Fuentes, who are both involved in trade rumors from time to time. I’d put a sizable bet down that Fuentes, Atkins and Teixeira are all staying with their respective leagues by the trading deadline. That’s just the risk you take in an NLO league… you can’t sit by every trade rumor and pray that your guy doesn’t get traded, moving guys for 50 cents on the dollar just because you’re worried about rumors. It’s highly unlikely that you’d be able to find Tex’s offense elsewhere.

On the same token, I’ve been able to take advantage of many players like you who worry about their player being traded to the AL mid-season. If I were you, I’d make a strong move for Matt Holliday or Fuentes, or Atkins and tell the owner of that player that you’re willing to assume the risk of them being traded.

The Braves are known for their drafting and player development, and the two first round picks that Tex would bring them if he left via free agency would outweigh the trough of talent that they could gain by trading him to a contender.

In other news, I’m bored at work (if you haven’t figured that out yet), sick of reading French newspapers and I might just take a nap under my desk, George Costanza-style.

Im having a hard time benching Weaver tonight… the guy has been awesome. I dont kno if the risk is worth the reward in this one.

@Grey: So no room for Davis. Oh well. On a less exciting note, I just grabbed Matt Thornton to fill a roster spot. Worth the add?

@wakeNbake: Wotta start Weaver. i’m starting Weaver and Cueto tonight… “Brass Balls,” or so sayeth Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross.

Now Harang is Having an MRI on his forearm, my pitching staff is falling apart!

  76. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@wakeNbake: Don’t bench him then. I’m just saying what I would probably do in a ten team mixed league. I don’t know all specifics to make a fully educated decision. Such as, is this H2H? 10 team? AL-Only? Who else are you starting? Is Weaver your top pitcher or worst? Etc.

@Steve: I like Thornton, have for a month or so.

re: Harang MRI — I think this might be another Disgraceful List stint.

  77. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: I really dont want to start him but I think I may… I dunno Texas’s lineup has alot of great fastball hitters and Weaver works off of his fastball which scares me. This is gonna kill me.

  78. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@Grey: well im in a 10 team mixed rotisserie league. My staff is Weaver,Harang,Oswalt,Parra,McGowan,Nolasco,Buchholz,Wakefield…less than stellar I kno. Weaver is my only pitcher going today, which also scares me. Im currently top in the league in ERA and WHIP due to having great pitching earlier in the year(which I traded) and using alot of MR. I have to be smart about my starts to keep me atop in those categories tho which is why I was leaning toward benching him.

  79. Denys says:

@Baron Von Vulturewins: yeah, i’d really like to see Harden pitch in the post-season.

  80. Grey

  83. Carl says:

    @IowaCubs:

Iowa I hear what you’re saying, but I have heard zero info about the Braves interest in re-signing Tex and yet heavy rumors of the Red Sox and Angels vying for his services. I doubt the Braves would not get anything for him and let him go via Free Agency, plus I don’t think they would help another NL club. Anyway, at least I got something for him that will help me in the standings and I don’t have to worry about him leaving the NL. I guess we will see!

  84. Grey

    Grey says:

@wakeNbake: You know he’s pitching a perfect game tonight, right?

  86. wakeNbake says:

@Grey: haha… I swear fantasy baseball drives me to smoke. I need to go take a break and clear my head if you get my drift. The answer to this question will mysteriously come to me I have a feeling.

  88. Mike says:

OK so McGowan is officially on the DL….. my 2 DL spots are currently occupied with Chris Young and Wainwright. Cut Mcgowan or use a DL spot on him and cut one of the other 2?

  89. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Mike: I’d cut McGowan.

  90. Mike says:

Just accepted an offer where I received Grandy for Torii Hunter and Wainwright. Did I give up too much for Grandy?

  91. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Mike: I think that trade’s fair with your side having a chance to come out way ahead. I see no way you lose that trade. If anything it’ll just be a push.

  92. Mike says:
    (link)

@Grey: Thats what I like to hear Grey!!
check out my lineup with this trade…howard, kinsler, aramis, rollins, markakis, grandy, crawford, berkman, chris davis…. my pitching is too shameful to list but check out that O baby!!

  93. Hank

    Hank says:

@Grey: “Aaron Harang – Fuck you.”

Aaron Harang says “Ow, my forearm hurts!”

News: MLB.com reports that Reds SP Aaron Harang was sent back to Cincinnati on Wednesday to undergo an MRI on his sore right forearm. Harang struggled on the mound during a 7-3 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday after that start was pushed back three days because of tightness in the forearm.

  94. BigFatHippo says:
    (link)

Fuck Harang and Phuck Phillies Phloundering offense when Hamels pitches.

Luckily I didn’t start Harang last night, took my 3 losses from Kaz, Bills, and Hamels.

    @Grey

I need to drop a temp closer to activate Matsui’s anal fissure from the DL. Which one do I drop?

Kobayashi, Wheeler, Marte, Linebrink. Franklin has 12 saves so I’m holding and K-Rod is, well, K-Rod. Yes I’ve been hoarding closers to keep them from the other vultures in my league.

Hoarding closers, reminds me of when a lady walked into a bank carrying a bag of crumpled bills totalling $42,000. When the bank manager asked her “Did you hoard all that money by yourself?” she replied, “No, my sister whored half of it”

  95. Grey

    Grey says:

@BigFatHippo: Wheeler seems to be out of favor in Tampaland.

  96. BigFatHippo says:
    (link)

Mulder injured his arm in the 1st inning and had to leave the game, drop immediately if you took a flyer on him.

    @Grey

I was leaning towards Linebrink, Jenks will be back right after the break. Tampa hasn’t won since Wheeler’s bad outing so he hasn’t had a chance to pitch. Balfour blew it today for them, seems they were saving Wheeler for a lead.

    What have you heard?

  97. Grey

    Grey says:

@BigFatHippo: Dude, I totally skimmed and missed Linebrink on the list. My bad. Yes, he’s the one to drop.

    At least you admit it.

    Done

    Yes, very fancy.

I particularly like the reflections of the skylights in your solar powered roof on the baseball.

If you put hold a magnifying glass over it you can probably blow it up.

@BigFatHippo: Or melt it. But don’t give WakenBake any ideas.

  102. BigFatHippo says:

    Ha

No, he’s not interested in melting things. He’s got his own bunson burner and a blowtorch.

I read the thread when I got home, totally got buzzed from second hand typing. Is that even possible?

  103. Grey

@BigFatHippo: In the naughts, it’s called a vaporizer.

  104. BSA says:
    (link)

Is it worth dropping a closer for CBuchholz? I have Paps, Rauch, Saito, Soria. Soria and Rauch were free agents while Saito was a waiver pick. My starters are Bedard, Cueto, Harden, Hudson, Lincecum, Shields.

  105. wakNbake says:

    mmm… vaporizer- the healthy alternative

  106. BigFatHippo says:

    Guess I missed the memo.

Not up on current lingo, I fried most of my brain cells in the 80’s. They’re just now starting to regenerate. Hopefully before alzheimers sets in.

  107. BSA says:
    (link)

If it matters my bench is chilly – Figgins, Bruce, Tulo.

  108. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@BSA: I’d hold tight or trade away a closer, though I’m not sure you’d be able to in a league where Saito was dropped.

  109. Mike says:
    (link)

Dotel got the save tonight for CWS…. does this make him the short term fovorite for saves?

  110. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Mike: I think Jenks gets back in less than two weeks. If you need saves really bad, I’d go with the hot hand. Right now it’s Dotel or Thornton. I’d lean towards Dotel because he has experience.

  111. Mike says:

you really think Brett Myers in done Grey?

@wakNbake: u like the vapo? My friend just got one and loves it.

  114. wakeNbake says:
    (link)

@Nick: Yeh I like em… their healthier because your just inhaling pure smoke, theres no type of rolling paper involved. I dont personally own one but I have friends who have em as well. Im more of a Vanilla Dutch or Glass Bong man myself but a good vaporizer ill never turn down…lol. Just a little FYI, if your ever looking to buy a bong… The company that make the best bongs in the world in my opinion is ROOR BONGS. They are pricey but well worth it, kinda like the Lamborghini of bongs, check em out.

@Grey:Back to talkin FANTASY BASEBALL!! The owner of Tulo in my league is understandibly very low on him right now. He likes Chris Davis also. If I got him to trade me Tulo str8 up for Davis thats a move I gotta make right?

  115. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@wakeNbake: Finally a conversation on this blog that MEANS something — bongs. And where to buy them.

    I’d grab Tulo there, yup.
