Josh Hamilton left the game with a fracture to his humerus bone, which isn’t connected to the funny bone. He was going down the line head first into home and… Well, he’s Mr. Glass, so what do you expect? Ron Washington can’t believe anyone could ever get hurt going down a line head first. “Nothing but fun to be had there!” That’s Washington talking about the devil’s dandruff. I think Kinsler, Cruz and Hamilton share gloves so one of them must always be on the DL. This opens up playing time for David Murphy. I’ve long been a fan of Murph. Has 15/15 potential and won’t kill you in any categories. I’d grab him in all leagues. Yeah, even yours. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Chris Davis – With the injury to Hamilton, Davis was recalled. Somewhere, Bill James can now wear his cut-off, denim shorts and proudly show off his tramp stamp tattoo that reads, “I love Chris Davis.” Without an injury, I can’t imagine Davis gets much playing time, but he’s still worth a pick up in AL-Only leagues for the off chance of him pulling magic out of his hat.
Michael Young – 3-for-3 as he played 2nd base. Guess who’s going to have 2nd base eligibility in Yahoo leagues by mid-May? Hint: His name appears at the beginning of this blurb.
Mike Napoli – Hasn’t started since Saturday. The conference of MLB managers that is held every year in Pensacola, Florida the first weekend of December is highlighted by Saturday’s all day seminar titled, “How To Prevent Napoli From Hitting 30 HRs In a Year.”
Dan Haren – 9 IP, 0 ER, 8 Ks and only allowed one hit. After the game, Haren received a call of congratulations from Armando Galarraga.
Peter Bourjos – 2-for-3 with his first homer. The guy with the hockey player last name has 10 homer power and 30 steal speed, yet I feel like everyone’s already given up on him. For shame.
Mark Trumbo – Hit his first homer the same day it was reported Kendrys was able to run. Somebody Gillooly him please.
Clayton Richard – 7 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks. Hodgepadre!
Dee Gordon – I just picked him up all over the place. Probably a bit preemie on that but with Furcal out, I gots to get me some upside at MI. Gordon can steal 50 bases this year. Now call him up!
Ryan Raburn – Batted third and went 2-for-4 with 2 Runs, 1 RBI and one formal apology to Leyland for not enjoying his secondhand smoke enough. I hate to be ungrateful, but how do you not start a guy then bat him third? Is this only bonkers to me? Oh, I know. In Monday’s game, Raburn replaced Mags in the three hole, so since Leyland has never heard of White Out he just left the lineup the same.
Chris Volstad – 4 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 10 baserunners, 3 Ks. Eh, no one owns this schmohawk anyway, right?
Omar Infante – 0-for-4, batting .244. You really shouldn’t have drafted him. He’s worse than yawnstipating.
Sam Fuld – 1-for-4, still batting leadoff, still stealing bases, still not a great hitter but OWH (Own While Hitting).
Kyle Farnsworth – Recorded his second save and this one was a perfect inning. If you’re circling around the Rays on the wings of Peralta or McGee waiting for vulture saves, you’re going hungry.
Angel Sanchez – 4-for-5, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, batting .395 on the year. There’s Dirty Sanchez, Filthy Sanchez and now Abandoned Warehouse Sanchez. Big sign over Abandoned Warehouse says “No squatters.”
Michael Cuddyer – 4-for-4, even a broken clock is right twice a day, but it’s wrong a lot more of the time. Remember that.
Jeff Francis – 7 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks. I think he’s garbage but he gets the Mariners next time out who are more garbager.
Wilson Betemit – 2-for-4, now hitting over .500 in the last week though that was boosted by a 4-for-4 day on Sunday. It’s feast or famine with these peasant Royals. Right now, it’s feast for Betemit. At any point, he’ll drop the boom and go back to MOS — ‘Mit Out Starting job.
Alexei Ramirez – 2-for-4, 4 RBIs and 2 homers (3 on the year). Now has more homers than he hit the last three Aprils combined. Cust kayin’.
Edwin Jackson – 4 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks. I blame Juan Pierre.
Brett Myers – 7 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 5 Ks. I mean, I’d pick him up if he were on waivers, but I still don’t trust him to keep up this pace.
David Aardsma – Manager Eric Wedge said Aardsma will be the closer when he returns at the end of the month. Wedge also said he doesn’t have a resume, but he can throw one together if it means a job managing a better team.
Jayson Werth – 2-for-3 and hit a homer yesterday batting between Rick Ankiel and Matt Stairs aka Blech and Belch.
Wilson Ramos – 2-for-3, batting .450. Nice the Nats are giving Ramos ABs over “My Nickname Pudge Wasn’t Always Ironic” Rodriguez. I’m getting ahead of myself, but Ramos is going to be in Friday’s Buy column and those in two catcher leagues should embrace him. Not literally, that would be weird.
Joe Blanton – 6 IP, 5 ER, 8 baserunners, 4 Ks. I wonder if he feels like the ugly redheaded stepchild. You know, like Phillip on Survivor.
Ryan Howard – 1-for-3 with his third homer. Sonavabench! Why you ask did I have Howard on my bench? Because stupid CBS locks lineups before the first stupid morning game whether the stupid Phillies are playing or not! And CBS charges for this shizz! Why can’t we make it standard across all platforms to lock lineups only for games underway? Is this too much to effin’ ask?
Ricky Romero – 8 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 8 Ks. I do like Romero. Tis true, if people say tis when it’s not Christmas time, but this was against the M’s.
Michael Pineda – 7 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks. Hellickson was my AL ROY choice, but I almost went with Pineda. Notice how I don’t mention I chose Freddie Freeman for the NL. Well, they ain’t all roses.
Chris Carpenter – 4 IP, 8 ER. Carpenter got hammered.
Lance Berkman – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer in two days. Don’t have faith in him, but don’t have to while he’s hot.
David Freese – Hit his 2nd homer in the last three days. If you lost Zimmerman, I ain’t mad at cha if you add Freese.
Tommy Hanson – 7 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks. Well, it wasn’t a 10 K performance like I would’ve liked to have seen, but it’s seven shutout innings so I’m going to shut up now.
Nate McLouth – Batted 2nd again with Heyward in the six hole. What exactly did McLouth do right and Heyward, who homered yesterday, do wrong? Are we pulling names out of a hat for the lineup card? Fredi reaches in, “Batting third is…New Era.” “Um, Coach, that’s the tag.”

You sell my boy Myers short bro. “I’d pull him off wavers..” pfft my ass you’d pull him in the 15th round and say to your financial analyst, “give me the same results I got from drafting Myers in the 15th round. By which I mean, buy gold a year ago.” doesn’t it annoy you when people try to impress you with your own style?
Edwin Jackson didn’t look as sharp as he did in his first two starts, but Juan Pierre and Alexi Ramirez didn’t do him any favors in the field either. I too love me some David Murphy! He could easily be a cheap source of power and speed, especially with that lineup and ballpark.
Quick question: if you had to roster Crain, Santos, Motte, Romo, Lopez, or Capps looking to vulture some saves and/or usurp a closing gig, who would it be?
you sell my boy Myers short bro. “I’d grab him off wavers..” pfft my ass you’d grab him off the 16th round and say to your financial analyst, “give me the same results I got from drafting Myers in the 16th round, by which I mean buy gold a year ago.”
doesn’t it annoy you when people try to impress you with your own style?
“Carpenter got hammered”!!! I wonder how long you’ve been waiting to use this!
Angel Sanchez: legit?
@It’llonlyhurtforasecond: No. However, it doesn’t hurt to ride out his hot streak. Just don’t drop anyone valuable.
Anytime I get an ‘I ain’t mad at cha’ blurb I need a Biggie reference to follow it somewhere!
I benched Snider for Crisp, leaving Bourjos on the bench. Sonavabench!
Also, I have Felix Hernandez, Tommy Hanson, Madison Bumgarner, Francisco Liriano, and Chris Carpenter. I’m last in my league in ERA and WHIP. lol
hey, ya think desmond jennings is worth a bench slot in RCLs? he worth locking up and waiting?
I’m finding it a bigger challenge locating waiver wire talent now that I’ve transitioned to a 12 team league. I do see two opportunities sitting on waivers:
-Aardsma
-Pineda
My marginal guys are Fuld, Belt, Beachy, Harang, McLellan, Raburn, Alcides and Espinosa.
Do any switching?
Terrific title by the way.
Woke up with a hangover and thinking, Crap. The Red Sox lost again last night, didn’t they? Guess I’ll check the fantasy baseball scores and make sure Hamilton is okay. Dootdeedoo… Uh-oh. 6-8 weeks? I think I’m going to puke.
New Era tag = recycled joke (Jerry Manuel last year)
One Badass League
12-team Roto 5×5 (QS instead of Wins) 4-player keeper league (you lose the round you drafted them in the redraft), 200 GS limit
Would you trade Smoak (23) and Kimbrel (15) for Billingsley (9) and Gordon (27)?
C- Jorge Posada
1B- Miguel Cabrera
2B- Neil Walker
3B- A-rod
SS- Elvis Andrus
MI- Reid Brignac
CI- Jose Lopez
OFx5- Jason Heyward, Cruz, Rios, Granderson, Peter Bourjos
UTIL- Justin Smoak
BEN- Desmond Jennings, Carlos Pena
SP- CC Sabathia, Yovani Gallardo, Anderson, Hellickson, Shields
RP- Kimbrel, Franklin, Rodney, Fuentes, Farnsworth, Santos, Boggs
DL- Francisco, Bailey
@Jeff: I can relate I have Felix, Lester, Dempster, Danks, Billingsley and Jackson. My ratios blow but my Ks are FANTASTIC! Blah!
You still high on Pedro Alvarez? In a league that penalizes batter K’s, thinking of dropping him for Murphy. Thoughts? I have Reynolds and the Glass Chipper…(I am not in good shape).
Thanks
Oh yeah, he came into camp fat, he is like Kung Fu Panda last year.
I lost zimm and need to replace him would you pick up
Rolen or Freese at 3b?
and
drop J. Vazquez or Esmil Rogers?
Bradley, bourjos,or d murph for my 5th of? Bourne also available, although I have pierre so I don’t really need him, but he shouldn’t be on the wire in a 14 team league.
@Grey: Need some help please!
Pick a 3B: Rolen or Freese
Pick 4 OFers: Span, Bloomquist, Boesch, Gomes, Wells, Raburn, Bourjos, Heisey, Damon, Rowand, R.Roberts
Never seen anyone ask you a hitter matchup question, so here goes. Daily league, 9×9 (so basically everything is taken into account), roto, pick 2:
A. Jones v. Burnett
J.D. Drew v. Shields
Willingham v. Danks
I can listen to philip talk about the code of the bushido all day.
Also, I would normally bench Scherzer today against Tex, but I’m gonna throw him out there hoping Tex is deflated a bit from losing their best player, bad idea?
great title.
please tell me you had the title ready to go since the start of the season, just waiting to insert the [number].
ESPN sucks too! I’m in an NL only league and they locked the week at the start of of a 1pm AL game. Which was 6 hours before any NL games that started at 7pm that night. So I get a full week of nothing while Zimmerman is on the DL! Is there any better sites to use out there, other than cbs, espn or yahoo that use auction leagues?
So they’re Joshin’ us with the May, right? Should we look for Hamilton before or after the All Star…break? Is he likely to be productive on his return, or is he done for ’11?
Do we think Napoli is still a “set it and forget it” guy, or do I need to try hard to find some room to pick up a guy like Ruiz or Ianetta to supplement? thoughts?
@knighttown: “Fuld, Belt, Beachy, Harang, McLellan, Raburn, Alcides and Espinosa.”
i’d drop any/all of those guys for aardsma and pineda if you don’t need them to start.
@CL: as a napoli whore, yes, set it and forget it. unfortunately this year napoli finally got too rich for my blood. though i somehow ended up with montero in 2 leagues after napoli was drafted. iannetta in the other. bleh.
A few Q’s for you (and the Commenters) on this fine Wednesday morning regarding my 8 team H2H league – where it’s tough to figure out who is droppable or not:
1) I’ve got Lind and Bruce in my UTIL spots and Tabata on the bench. Would you drop Lind for any of the following: Gordon, Abreu, Soriano, S. Drew, Espinosa, Soto, Gomes, Berkman, Ike? Lind isn’t doing much.
2) I’m about fed up with Bills and his new “I don’t have to perform because I have a huge contract” attitude. Would you cut him for Drabek, Pineda, Ogando, Narveson?
Thanks.
@Wilsonian: 1) i would hold lind. his upside is way higher than any of the other guys you listed, except maybe gordon. and lind has proven he’s capable of being good for a full season.
2) yeah bills is frustrating me right now, my only SP in my h2h league that’s sucking. but no way you cut him for a flavor of the week. i wouldn’t drop him for pineda and imo pineda is by far the best option of those 4 guys listed. remember it’s only 3 starts. how many guys leave april with a 5+ era and end the season below 3.50?
Ramos looks impressive. Lose Posada for him in 1-catcher 10 team H2H?
Grey, what do you think the chances of the rangers moving moreland to outfield and putting napoli on 1st?
Wait, Matt Stairs is still alive?
@ThePoonTycoon: yeah, that’s the hardest part about 8 team leagues, there’s so much talent that it’s tough to figure out who should be dropped. Would it make any difference to you if I said one of Lind/Bruce/Tabata will have to be dropped when Longo comes off the DL?
Also on Bills, he’s by far my least favorite pitcher on my roster. He’s my “#4″ but he’s pitching like a bum. In all fairness, I didn’t like him when I picked him, but I was in need of a #3 and he was the highest on Grey’s list that was left. I then ended up dealing E.Jax/Rasmus for Hamels/Lind, so that bumped Bills down my list, and he just sucks right now, so all things considered I’m having a tough time hanging on to him.
@Grey: Ramos over Salty in a 2C league?
You like Dee Gordon (didn’t he win a slam dunk contest in Boston?) and his speedy upside over Infante and his no upside or Callaspo and his Freddy Sanchez-ness?
Drop Travis Snider for David Murphy?
Pineda….SONAVABENCH
Ron Washington can’t believe anyone could ever get hurt going down a line head first. “Nothing but fun to be had there!”
Favorite Greyline of 2011.
Longoria, Josh down
Pujols, A-Gonz and Pricey to go.
Is selling high on Napoli right now a good move? Thinking of swinging Napoli + Espinosa for Pedroia in a h2h OBP league. Thoughts?
Grey, what do you think of Phil Coke tomorrow @OAK?
@ whoever can offer advice
I am in a 10-man points league. I am getting fed up w/ Carlos Pena (currently on bench taking a spot). I am tempted to drop him to add another (but is it too early to give up on him?… will he start to mash in Chi-town?) Also, have Ervin Santana and Edison Volquez…whom I like but not sure if any of the below are worth dropping either of them for.
Available batters I can grab include…
Angel Sanchez (hou), Gomes (cinci), fuld (tb), beltran (nym), bradley (Sea), freese (stl), hafner (clev), ibanez (phil)
notable Starting pitchers available are…kuroda (lad), floyd (chws), ogando (tex), zimmerman (wash), francis (kc), dempster (chc), holland (tex), nova (nyy, harang (sd)…
notable RP’s include: farmsworth (tb), rodney (laa), Sale (chws), chapman (cinci)
Thanks in advance!
Some injury stats from the NY Times:
4 players had gone on the D.L. with core, or oblique, injuries at this point a year ago. But in 2011, the total is already 14.
The number decreases throughout the season, with just 1 percent of oblique injuries occurring in September.
Last season, pitchers who injured their obliques and went on the disabled list typically took about 43 days before returning to play compared with 31 days for position players.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/12/sports/baseball/12injury.html?_r=1
@Eddy Ron Washington would start him……every day.
@Grey. CBS blows with the 1st match-up line-ups locked BS.
Someone needs to put their foot down, and that foot is ME.
@Wilsonian: eh, i wouldn’t drop any of them. tabata is off to a good start and should be at worst, ellsbury/gardner production but for a much much cheaper price. and there’s talk from the pirates that his power bump is legit, so it might not be unreasonable to get carl crawford numbers (say 12-15 and 40+?). bruce and lind will be fine, you don’t wanna drop them to watch them blow up in may for someone else while soriano or someone is a black hole on your roster.
and yeah, i drafted bills as my SP3 in a h2h thinking his whip wouldn’t hurt as much in h2h. but i’m not a fan. it was definitely a hold my nose type pick. took gio and kennedy as my SP4 and SP5 though, so that softens the blow.
@VinWins. In summation, would you say the outlook is, oh, bleak?
to replace Zimmerman in standard 5×5 weekly: Freese or Polanco?
I got roofied bad by Cory Luebke last night. Wow what a disaster.
Swisher got dropped in my league, I have Kubel. Fragu is also available. Pick up Swisher if he clears waivers seems obvious, what about taking a chance on Fragu if Swisher doesn’t, now that Fragu’s on assignment?
Who do you like better today:
Jason Heyward (facing Josh Johnson) or
Matt Holliday (facing Ian Kennedy)
Going forward, if you had the choice of Soto or Napoli on your team (5×5, H2H), which way would you go? I have Napoli, but someone in a league (not a razzball league) that I’m in dropped Soto (yes, I know!).
@Grey
Lookin to deal one of my top SP’s for some offense. Which do you think has the best value/least chance to acheive that value ratio.
Gallardo
Hanson
Liriano
You da man!
@VinWins: I didn’t realize the Times had a sports section.
In a H2H league that counts holds. I’m in need of a setup man. Would your rank the following middle relief in this order?
Motte
Lindstrom
Rhodes
O’Day
@ThePoonTycoon: I’m taking your advice and not dropping any of them. Who would you play out of the Lind, Bruce and Tabata today if you could only play 2? I’m going Tabata and flipping a coin on the other two. Additionally, it’s going to be a tough call when Longo makes his triumphant return.
Also, I think we have the same pitching staff. I also have Kennedy and Gio on my team with Bills. I kind of threw up in my mouth a little when I took Bills. He just doesn’t do much for me at all. I’ve never really liked him, but I had to go on what everyone was saying about him. I really hope he turns it around and Pineda doesn’t end up being Latos ’11.
I was just looking over J. Upton’s stats for this season and noticed his K/BB (6/6). Is this a positive sign or just the product of a small sample size? Or a little of both?
The same question also to Matt Kemp and his K/BB (4/9).
Do I accept Crawford, Reynolds, Markakis, J. Zimmermann and Walden FOR Braun and Tabata? Followup, what’s Tabata’s ceiling?
14×25 H2H is it worthy using waiver 6 to drop Nate Mclouth for Veron Wells thanks ~
@Ghostface Przybilla: i’d say tabata’s ceiling is carl crawford. i’d say his floor appears to be ellsbury/gardner (sagnof with solid avg/obp).
if you won’t be hurting at 3B and don’t need walden as a RP, then i’d do that deal. you are getting by far the best player imo, and might even end up with close to the 2nd best player if tabata’s early play is an indication of an overall step forward.
@Wilsonian: yeah i’m in a league right now with dread pirate, heyward, rasmus, flying hawaiian, and stanton fighting over 3 OF spot, and the 2 leftover over + morneau fighting over a 2 util spots. right now i have morneau benched until he gets rolling, but i feel like a lot of days are gonna come down to coin flips.
@Mr. Rickey: BOTH? what are you in a 2 OF’er league and your other OF’er is Braun?
@Ghostface Przybilla: keep Braun/tabata….. less is more
Which side would you prefer in this deal?
Morneau, Quentin, Gallardo
or
A-Gon, Oswalt
@Tony: 3OF league but I also have Kemp and Tabata, who has been too hot to sit.
Grey-
Brandon Belt or Matt Laporta?
And then a turd of a question, while Zimmerman is out: Polanco, Callaspo, Jayson Nix, or Brent Morel?
Will it be another bleh year for my MI – Aaron Hill? Should I drop him for Ryan Theriot?
@Lob Ball: no
People starting Max against Tex?
Would you drop Trumbo or Belt for David Murphy?
This napoli thing is redic@kulous,he,s not even k,ing Davis cantdo much worse than pena,I’m loving@my dan@ haren trade,and I’m gonna be checkin g out dee also
better spot start tomorrow:
beachy vs. marlins or norris vs. padres
(both pitchers are at home)
“Hamilton’s 11 Game Iron Man Streak Comes To An End “….I was wondering why I saw Wade Boggs riding that stallion, on the back of a horse….I was wondering why there was 45 minute delay during the Rangers game…I was wondering why Ripken was shaking everyone’s hand….I was wondering why Bonds gave his son a hug…in public…I was wondering if the bowling ball got mad at me every time I threw him in the gutter…now I know that even bowling balls have feelings…even bowling balls can cry…thanks Barry…
I’m happy about my almost all “Grey” team and I just got offered a trade in my 14 team roto league that may complete it. I was offered Dread pirate and J. Johnson for Cargo and Pavano. Should I already have clicked “accept”?
Pineda, McClellan, and Ogando throwing well for me this week! Thanks Razzball!
Hey Grey, thinking of sitting Scherz vs TEX and Kennedy vs STL… am I wrong to feel like I’m going to get twice sonavabenched? cheers
@Grey
I am in a 10-man points league. I am getting fed up w/ Carlos Pena (currently on bench taking a spot). Thanks in advance!
Grey,
12 Team, 5 X 5, H2H
I know you hate catchers but Im thinking about trading Jimenez and A Cabrera for Mauer. Not sure the other guy will even do it but your thoughts? I could use the AVG and the offense in general. I already have Philips and Reyes for MI and I have Hanson, Latos, Hudson, Bedard, Volquez, Beachy, Guthrie, Britton. My plan is to just run two start pitchers out there the whole year. Gracias.
I hope Quentin keeps it up….
Phillip on Survivor? Yankees, the Wire, Survivor – there have been others – you and I could be a match made in heaven if I was one of the 5 ladies who read this blog – oh and I’m Jewish too. Who do you like better the rest of the way at SS – Drew or Desmond? Does it depend on steals or HR?
Good stuff Grey!
When do you predict Gordon be called up? You thinking days/week/or weeks…?
Also, just wanted to thank-you for plugging Tabata so much in pre-season. I own him on all of my teams and never picked him before 190. Thanks broski.
WOW- Tabata was originally signed by the Yankees at age 16, traded at age 19 to the Pirates.
I didn’t know that.
HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!

@5150bosox: They all have their peccadilloes.
@Joe Pettini’s Specs: ASB probably.
@Wilsonian: @CL: What Poon said.
@GTS: No
@tggq21: Doubtful
@Gig: Ha
@3FingersBrown: Ramos over Salty. If Gordon’s on the bench, you can stash him for a week.
@Rob: Nope
@Buddo Chezuski: Ouch
@EnglishMetsFan: Thanks!
@Nate: I’d take Pedroia there.
@Eddy: Eh
@Bryan: Lose Ervin for Kuroda.

@Dr. Stats: Hoping a week at the longest… If not, I’ll lose him.
@Tony: Yup
@Wilsonian: Ha
@Tony: he was part of that deal for a couple of middle relievers a few years ago…can’t even remember what mediocre guys the pirates sent to nyy
@ Grey
Is there a glossary term for: A player that you really want to trade for and you feel that the “fantasy baseballer” that owns him would give him up based on his roster….but the team is obviously abandoned (DLs and NAs starting in his lineup) making it impossible to make a trade?
H2H 5×5
Just traded Belt and Wieters for Beckham. Good trade?
Anyway, what catcher should I pick up?
Suzuki, Ramos, Ruiz, Avila, Hundley
Grey, who do you like from here on out: Travis Snider or Vernon Wells?
Thanks
@Grey: How long of a leash do I give Wieters and Jeter in a 10 team 5×5 Roto?
@ThePoonTycoon: it was the Nady/Dumb Asshole Marte deal…good one Yanks! Ha!
Any day now Yahoo/Texas on moving Hams to the DL………….
How do you feel about Kennedy vs StL today? What about Lilly @ SF?
Hey man, I want to thank you because from over a year of reading this site I was conditioned, deep down, to know that Hamilton would definitely get injured for a significant stretch this year…He’ll probably hit the bottle while he’s out too. I’m just glad I didn’t draft him this year.
Someone in my league dropped Morneau, now that he’s on waivers I can bid on him, how much would you bid? I’m thinking 8. Everyone has $100 budget to play with…I would drop Pena for him.
Also, would you drop Sean Rod for Jose Lopez or Peralta? My league counts slugging and walks.
Thanks for all the help.
Using Gillooly as a verb made my day. Thanks!
I don’t want to sound like a dick, but the managers who drafted Hamilton had to know this injury (or something like it) was fate. Unless Hamilton fell into your lap after pick 30 then it’s your fault for wasting an early round pick on an uber-talented, but super fragile/slow healing Hamilton.
Nellie Cruz will be joining Hammy soon
@ Grey:
You starting Scherzer against TX?
How much longer are you giving Salty to hit? Got any potential waiver C’s to replace? Would you drop him for Arencibia today?
Thanks ahead of time!
@Tony: That’s a “Latin 16.” He might be 32 for all we know.
In all seriousness, as a Pirate fan I hope Tabata keeps it up. Dumb fans were flipping out over the new regime trading “stars” like Bay, McClouth and Nady (who are all setting the league ablaze) for prospects, so it would be nice if Tabata proves to be bona fide.
@slam: i’d bid my whole damn budget on morneau. there will not be a player that good on the wire again. i guarantee it.
@Joe Pettini’s Specs: I can’t imagine a broken anything in your arm is good for a swing or power.
anyone have the link to the baseball site that gives the daily
weather forecast for each stadium ?
thank you .
In a 16-team h2h cats league, I have Longoria DL’d (jose lopez interim) and Torres day-to-day (dropped a crappy SP for Trumbo to fill UTIL). I have no batting bench players to maximize IP, W, and Ks (besides Torres right now). I have Brignac at SS. I want Dee Gordon, but I cant stash him, unless its for Trumbo or Lopez. What would you do in this situation?
Bumgarner or Ian Kennedy?
Aaron Hill or Danny Espinosa?
@charlie batch: My worst SP is Chris Young, followed (closely?) by Vazquez.
Situation: I had Furcal and now have no SS.
I have been offered Kyle McClellan and Stephen Drew for Oswalt.
These are my pitchers: we start 6 SP 2 RP 2 P (13 team 5×5)
SP:Kershaw
SP:Gallardo
SP:Oswalt
SP:B.Anderson
SP:Niese
SP:Beachy/Nova
RP:K-Rod
RP:Broxton
RP:Kimbrel
RP:Farnsworth
B: Madson
B:Peralta (TB-handcuff)
Or do I just pick up J.Peralta or Bloomquist and ride it out.
Thanks
Look at Michael Young hitting 3rd now! That plus possible 2B eligibility is making him look better every day!
@Grey
How would you rank these Zimmerman replacements: Rolen, Freese, Encarnacion, Betemit
@Dr. Stats: in defense of some of us (myself included) we did not draft him, but rather made a very good trade for him at the start of last season – in my case, Carlos Zambrano for Hamilton, straight up – and he was still one of my best keepers. We keep 5, and they are our first 5 rounds, no other penalties, and he had to be kept simply based on what he could provide should he play 120+ games. I knew he would break at some point (5 games here, 5 games there, maybe a 20 day stint on the DL), but no one can predict that the dude would break his arm/shoulder sliding in head first at home on a foul pop-up to third.
…And Edwin Jackson or the better of Bumgarner or Kennedy?
Trade JZ for VMart? Have a sea urchin-deep staff already and Jonathan Lucroy currently catching. Plus would get double jeopardy counting stats w/ Miggy Cabrera. No brainer, yes?
@ThePoonTycoon: As a twins fan I agree, but at the same time I know he’s going to get injured in july/august so I’d like to get him as cheap as possible…I have no qualms about bidding high to lock him up though, maybe 25? If people in this league are dropping the likes of Morneau who knows who could be next…some leftover ammo might be useful.
@Howie Met Your Mother:
Exactly how you ranked them. Freese and Encarnacion are swappable.
@everyone: Throw out AJ vs Baltimore or tattoo his ass to the bench?
Another Tabata note…according to Yahoo (at least a couple of days ago) he has the most hits in the Majors since the All-Star Break last season.
Side note: I check your Y! friends and family league a couple times a week to see the obscure players you pick up that Im clueless about. Ive learned a lot, and I knew you were going to write about Dee Gordon last night. Feel free to be flattered or creeped out..
@Wilsonian: Wow, that’s crazy. Good for McCutchen too. As Grey said, Tabata is Victorino 100 picks later. Maybe better?
@Wilsonian
If you got Fragile McHamilton for Zambrano straight up then that’s one hell of a deal. Man, even 250 Abs (+ replacement) of Hamilton is worth way more then Z-Man’s bloated WHIP and 4.00+ era. I bet that same guy drafted Mookie Wilson hoping for a comeback.
@charlie batch: How do you check the Y! friends and family league?
@Grey:
Grey, would you prefer Aaron Hill or M.Young at 3B?
@Eddy:
2B*
Heh, I love the Josh Hamilton blurb.. Who do like in the short term: David Murphy, Ben Francisco, Johnny Gomes, or Ryan Raburn (now that Magglio seems to get injured every other day).
Also who do you prefer as a Zimmerman replacement: Callapso or Freese..
@Grey: dee gordon over seanrod? whoops upside your head?
@Whiskey Diet:
http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/13380
@Mr2Bits: Seriously! Let’s vamanos on the DLamos
@Grey: Add Dee Brown I mean Dee Gordon and lose David Hernandez?
14 team, H2H, I have Alcides right now…is it Meh or worth a shot?
Also, I’m buying Who is Grey? as soon as mi madre puts money in my account. Yes I’m a broke, unemployed college kid and yes she knows I’m a fantasy baseballer.
Rangers lineup is out. So your best hitter, who you batted third, goes down. So you obviously replace your best hitter with your second best hitter and bat him third.
The Rangers second best hitter is evidently Michael Young. Oh.
@Eddy: Thanks Eddy. My opinion: I’d take Young over Hill for the short term at 2B. Batting title and chip on shoulder could = top 5 2B stats.
what do you think of my a-rod/marcum for his ry-zimm/cliff lee?
i need pitching and have reynolds on the bench just aching to fill my three hole.
Hello again Grey. I have a trade question for you. I am loaded with SPs (at least their position says so) and I am slightly short on Saves. I have Valverde and Burnett and am hopeful that Capps offs Nathan and takes over. I was thinking of offering one a guys who has 5 Closers (that’s right 5) Edwin Jackson for one of his. Do you think Jackson for say Chris Perez is a good deal for me? I have 9 other starters and, well, Jackson is simply pissing me off. If not Perez, what comparable Closer?
Thanks much Grey.
Yo Grey, a couple of sits and starts if you please:
Brett Anderson on the heels of a couple quality starts but facing a tough matchup against the southsiders?
Lilly off two terrible games (his last terrible start had some rain delay issues) against the lowly San Fran Baseball Giants?
Wandy at home against the stinky Cubbies?
Bonus Question!
When you told me last week to pick up Belt and drop Raburn I did it. Do I stay the course or do I pull a 540 and get Raburn back ASAP?
@Dr. Stats: ha, he’s actually been in the top 3 in our league the last few seasons (16 Team H2H). I looked back, it wasn’t the start of last season, it was the end of 2009 but it was straight up Big Z for Hamilton. I then kept Hamilton at the start of 2010. I’ll definitely take that deal every day, and twice on Sunday. But yeah, I avoided him like the plague in my other leagues (and Nellie as well) simply because you are guaranteed a breakdown.
@Whiskey Diet:
That’s what I’m thinking, and I want to make the move before the owner realizes he’s going to get 2B eligibility.
Would you do Aaron Hill and Gavin Floyd for Uggla or would you trade Alex Gordon for Ryan Raburn and just back Hill up until he breaks out of his slump? Both offers are on the table. I have Drabek in the wings to come up if I deal Floyd, but I can keep his contract lower if I keep him down longer.
drop rajai or coco for murphy?
ps. started the (e)book… i think the people on the subway thought i was a crazy person el oh elling all the way to work.
@sawx10: Not yet.
@SwaggerJackers: It;s fine… Avila
@Jackie: Snider
@timSTi: Longer than less than two weeks.
@The Dude: Starting them.
@slam: No problem. $21… Lopez.
@MKEeast: No problem.
@Dr. Stats: Yup
@Alejandro: Go with Arencibia… Start Scherzer…
@charlie batch: Hold for now.
@Schmohawks Bob: Kennedy, Hill
@Wire: Trade sounds fair.
@Howie Met Your Mother: Freese…
@Schmohawks Bob: Not sure what you’re asking.
@Tarasco’s Secret Stash: Jordan Zimmermann for V-Mart?
@theevilempire: I wouldn’t own him.
@charlie batch: I’m simultaneously flattered and creeped out.
@Eddy: Young
@Gambler: Murphy, Freese
@herschel: Eh
@Whiskey Diet: Ha, thanks! Sure, over Hernandez.
@brad: I’d take Lee.
@yankees2011: Sounds fair.
@Alcesto: I’d start them all. Hold Belt for a few.
@cubbies299: I’d take Uggla.
@mrobs: Ha, thanks! Coco
For Grey and Everybody,
Got a guy trying to trade me for Michael Bourn. I’m a little short in Ks, Wins, and Saves.
Who should I target from his staff?
His Starters: Halladay, Hanson, Filthy Sanchez, Verlander, Latos,Hughes, Harrison, Pineda
His Closers: Rivera, Kimbrel, Contreras/Lidge
I have DLR, Kennedy, Chacin, and D. Hudson who i’d be willing to combine with Bourn in a 2-1 Deal.
Thoughts?
Is Young assured to get 2B eligibility with Hamilton going down? I’ve looked around for confirmation he’ll regularly play there but wasn’t able to find anything.
Should I burn my #1 waiver priority on Murphy? Right now, I’d be putting him in Snider’s spot. It seems early enough that I should hold that waiver position, but he could get pretty many ABs this year given the health history of the Texas OFs. Unless, of course, his intercostal oblique appendices start acting up. . .
Salty, Iannetta, Hundley, or Ramos?
@Grey Yeah, Jordan Zimma for VMart
Just dropped Phil Hughes for Derek Holland. Good move?
Holy cripes, the comments sure do fill up faster than a couple years ago…
Drop Volquez for Zach Britton? Obviously Volquez has the easier schedule, but he pisses me off almost every time he starts. And Britton has been lights out across a very small sample. Decisions, decisions…
Josh Willingham or Gomes going forward?
I know Willingham is solid but Gomes did hit 20 hrs in 280 ABs in ’09, but he did only have 18 hrs in 511 ABs in 2010.
I do like Gomes home park better, but Willingham batting cleanup is nice.
fwiw regarding TRAVIS SNIDER questions, dude has an awful april last year, then was a beast in may before his injury, so he just might be a mark teixeira type.
@MooseAttack
As you know from reading Razzball speed is cheap, easy to find and often over-rated (kind of like a Tijuana lap-dance)
Therefore, I’d trade Bourne straight up for Kimbrel if he’ll bite. If not, I think Pineda is worth trying to aquire….he looks GREAT!
Finally, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to trade Chacin or D. Hudson. Those are two upside guys I would wait on bro…unless you can package Bourne and one of them for Verlander (depends how desperate/intelligent the other manager is)
@Grey: Ok, so you’d start Anderson at CWS, Lilly at SF and Wandy at home against the Cubbies, but I’ve got an innings limit to worry about! Can you rank these guys for me?
Did you know that no team that Anderson has started more than 1 game against has hit him harder than the White Sox? And he sports a career 4.60 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, .326 BAA against those same white sox? And that last year he rang up 2 k’s in 12 IP against the Sox, and gave up 5ER in 5.1 IP in has last appearance at US Cellular? They’ve got Dunn back in the lineup and they are leading the AL in runs scored so far.
@MooseAttack: Whoever he offers?
@Doc Pounder: Probably not.
@Earl Battey: Didn’t you read the post that was I swear to God not more than three days old about not holding onto your waiver priority.
I posted this late last night, too late for a response. Forgive my insolence in resposting.
Grey, in your top 300 for 2011, Wells is #112 with a projection of 60/21/70/.280/5, while Markakis is #142 with a better line of 85/17/80/.305/10.
Drop Wells and pick up Markakis, grab Murphy and see what’s going on in 6-8 weeks, or hold Wells?
Scherzer needed 24 pitches to get out of the first inning. K’d Beltre and Cruz to end the frame after hitting Kinsler and walking Andrus.
@sean: ScherzStorm Watch 2011: Fastball clocked at 90-92 early in the inning, then strikes out Cruz on six straight fastballs clocked 93-95. Epiphany? Developing…
@chata: http://www.parkfactors.com/all
@penpen: @sean:
I hope I don’t experience my first sonavabench with Scherzer!
Raburn or J(eniffer)ose Lopez for a UTIL spot?
@bogbert: I’d punt Wells for Markakis, but I think Grey was trying to emphasize two things about Markakis: (1) a lot of his value comes from average; and (2) even in a great year, he’s likely to meet or just barely exceed those projections instead of smashing them. Markakis will never wake up one morning and be a 30 HR guy, even if he sacrifices 25 points off the average. Wells can give you 30 HR if he gets 500 ABs, but the downside can be severe.
@Wilsonian: or pick 2 of 3 out of Raburn, Lopez, Willingham. Odd man out hits waivers…
@penpen: @Eddy: It’s not going to matter much when he’s laboring around 100 pitches in the 5th; that’s Jobacum’s biggest problem.
Carpenter got hammered. Jesus Christ.
@Dr. Stats: @sean:
I was only thinking of trading any my pitchers for anyone latos or better. I’m very wary of trading a mid round pick for a rookie pitcher on a team that is terrible.
I might be able to squeeze and get bourn for delmon young. How about that?
Ha! Best Ron Washington one yet.
I have 4 closers in my NL only league and would like to get rid of one for an OF or MI. Which one would you rather hold on to: Burnett or Contreras? I’m looking at getting Gomes or Smith, btw. Thanks!
@sean
Why not?
@sean: 50 pitches, no runs through 2 innings, I smell 250-pitch shutout
@sean: Great explanation, Sean, thank you.
Cuddyer, Infante or Betemit for 3B?
Thanks.
Berkman or Zobrist for 1B?
Hey Grey, Need a Util, Kila or Raburn. I had Kila but he isn’t hitting and is starting to lose ABs its looking like. Thanks in advance!
@MooseAttack: Agree with Stats.
@Black Beard: I said by mid-May he’ll get 2nd base eligibility. Has nothing to do with Hamilton. Has to do with Kinsler getting benched once every week or so.
@Earl Battey: Sure
@jongenes: Iannetta
@Tarasco’s Secret Stash: Why wouldn’t you take V-Mart there?
@Doc Pounder: Eh
@Lines: Nope
@Nomar Mr. Nice Guy: Gomes
@Alcesto: Lilly, Anderson, Wandy…
@bogbert: What Sean said.
@Wilsonian: Raburn
@scalez: Ha!
@Cole: Thanks! Burnett…
@the kid: Betemit
@the kid: Berkman
@Nuke LaDouche: Raburn
Jesus Christ, with A. Escobar and A. Hill at my 2nd and SS spots, I’m looking to M. Reynolds to stabalize my IF batting average.
@vinko:
not the same site that i had last year , but ,
you da man !
thanks .
I hate liriano so far this year, 4 runs vs. the frikking Royals, and yes I know the royals have been hot, but gimme a break dude?
i almost benched him this morning bc I didnt need many innings in my H2H league, so annoying…. what a pos so far.
check that 5 runs now to the MIGHTY ROYALS.
Liriano is being lit up by the Royals. He’s now un-startable and is drifting towards un-ownable.
ha 6 runs! keep it going liriano!
@Tony: Make that 6.
Sorry for the garbled question:
Ian Kennedy or Michael Pineda?
@Grey: I’m really confused man, this morning I asked who you prefer @ 3B: Rolen or Freese. you answered Rolen: theevilempire:
But then Howie asked you the same question a few hours later and you said Freese: @Howie Met Your Mother:
What the dealio?
Scherzer looking solid.
@Donnie Baseball:
Good stuff. I feel your pain, but I have ERA issues.
So Liriano rides the pine indefinitely from here?
Oh, Frankie Liriano. Blargh, blech, barf, I drafted him in two money leagues and the RCL.
@scalez: Ha! I like Raburn and Jennifer. Dropped Berkman just before he started knockin bombs for Raburn, and I’m not regretting it (1for1 and a BB so far today!)
@Wilsonian: I see what you did there…
Oops. @scalez -> @wilsonian and vice versa. Howd that happen?
Drop Liriano for Kyle Davies??
guaranteed i bench Liriano next game, even if its vs. the hottest team in baseball whoever that may be and he’ll throw a Gem!
Liriano on pace for 0-30 record this year– I asked Grey and he said after three bad starts you should immediately drop your #1/2 starter for waiver wire belly button lint; see also: Verlander, Justin; Lester, Jon; the person who always comes in last place in your league
@Chunk: before I could get to him, someone snagged Raburn. So now I’m stuck with Willingham and Jennifer. I’ve gotta find some bats, my RCL team is awful – dead last with 36 points!
Grey/All : Who is your replacement for Hamilton in an 10 team OPB/QS league until Hart or Sizemore get off the DL? I can go pitcher or OF’er as I have a few backups on my offensive bench
Jonny Gomes
Lance Berkman
Raúl Ibañez
Josh Willingham
Jeff Francoeur
David Murphy
Jeremy Guthrie
Kevin Correia
Josh Tomlin
Aaron Crow
Sam LeCure
@penpen: If there were anything as good as belly button lint available on waivers I might actually drop Liriano. Until then I guess He’s stuck on the bench.
@mookiewilson: belly button lint is my deep sleeper pick for 2011
belly button lint: it’s what’s for dinner!
Andrus just dropped in my 14-team league. Should I use my precious #4 waiver spot and drop Alcides or hang tight?
@Grey
Yunel Escobar, Chone Figgins or Freddy Sanchez at MIF?
@theevilempire:
Are you new? All the responses are computer generated.
@Donnie Baseball: Ha!
@Schmohawks Bob: Kennedy
@theevilempire: Keep you on your toes? My bad, I meant Freese. Same diff though.
@Mr2Bits: Berkman
@rvde: I’d pick up Andrus.
@Howie Met Your Mother: Figgy
My Swisher for his Michael Young. He just lost Hamilton and needs an OF (we start 3) and he likes Swisher. I’d be getting Young to bolster IF/UT position. H2H points league settings favor power…Swisher projected 10 more points overall. Should I try to do this trade?
My team:
C: Montero
1B: Lind
2B: K.Johnson
SS: HanRam
3B: Youk
IF: Pena
OF: Pence
OF: J.Upton
OF: Tabata
UT: P.Alvarez
@sean: …now he is Seantrodamus
crap…forgot I have Trumbo/Swisher on my bench for bats
David Price for Dan Uggla???? Yeah I got Price… Yeah I got Uggla… or fair deal?
Can Carpenter be tried for murdering the beautiful ERAs put up by Hanson and Haren on my team yesterday? Also, would it be worth dropping Rodney for K-Farns-Dog? how about bumgarner for Narv dog? Thank grey
Grey,
Your pick of Rauch, Farnsworth, and Sean Burnett?
Would you rather have Oswalt or Verlander? My trade partner has both and I need to decide who I’d rather acquire.
@Grey: Need your opinion on a trade:
12 team h2h points league, pitcher heavy
Trade 1:
i give: billingsley, kuroda, mcgehee
i get: d-hudson, pavano, youkilis
Thoughts?
Hi Grey – Im in a 12 team Yahoo H2H 7×7 one win with CG, SHO, HLDS, 3B, OBP, GS Ks against and yes I have Fantasy ADD.
I have Maicer Itzuris as my super (f)utility infielder) and I’m rocking a tandem of Arencibia and Posada
My starting pitching looks like this: Halladay, Verlander, Haren, Pineda, Romero, Hughes, Narveson, and Peavy/Johan on the DL. My bullpen is adequate.
All my OFs are undroppable (Vlad/Stanton/Heyward) but I feel I need a backup OF, I’m thinking Seth Smith since he is bating 5th behind CarGo and Tulo. Or should I grab Boesch . . . . again.
Should I drop one of my catchers or drop Narveson because my SPs are allready solid?
@Busta: Sounds good for you.
@MR T: Looks good for Uggla.
@Tony tone: Yeah, yeah and yup.
@Rich: Burnett
@Ethan Stein: Verlander
@joe from point pleasant: Sounds good for you.
@Shawn: Smith, drop Arencibia.
supporting Grey’s position that a hot spring training means very little ,
i offer up the example of alexi rios , who , besides going 0-2 today ,
has posted these numbers , thus far :
7 runs – 0 hr – 4 rbi – 1 sb – .208 avg .
someone needs to lift the curse on this dude .
Some advice to everyone: I don’t think it’s time to drop Liriano yet. His splits look like this for his career:
April: 4.83 ERA, 1.80 K/BB, 1.46 WHIP
May: 4.75 ERA, 2.79 K/BB, 1.51 WHIP
June: 3.27 ERA, 3.62 K/BB, 1.10 WHIP
July: 2.92 ERA, 3.55 K/BB, 1.08 WHIP
August: 3.54 ERA, 2.39 K/BB, 1.36 WHIP
Sept/Oct: 4.90 ERA, 3.55 K/BB, 1.31 WHIP
So while his numbers are ugly now, and coupled with his presence on Rudy’s risky pitchers list, I can see the desire to drop him. At the same time, do you want to be the guy that dropped Liriano before he could post those June-October numbers? You drafted him in the 8th-ish round, probably to be your ace, for a reason. It seems more like a “time to bench him until he turns it on” situation than a “time to cut bait” situation.
Grey – I just couldn’t do it. I feel like Arencibia will get as much play time as Posada and considering Posada is 4/30 with 3 HR, he’s just plain ugly in the box. Arencibia already has two triples. Basically, I’m asking for your blessing.
Grey, stroke your magic ‘stache and grant me some wisdom! I just picked up Kinsler in a trade, so I no longer have much use for an ice cold Aaron Hill. Should I hold him in my utility spot or dump him and pick up a refreshing Lance Berkman?
roto 5*5
Liriano or Tabata?
Am I asking enough for Contreras by getting Smith or Gomes?
@John Butte: Hold
@Too Live Crudite: Tabata, it’s fair.
@Cole: Nope
Raburn, LoMo, Gordon, or Murphy at UTIL? Thanks Grey!
it’s sale , again
with thornton throwing in the pen
@Nuke LaDouche: Gordon
@chata: Wow, after two innings yesterday.
@chata:
Ozzie is really trying to F me in two leagues. Grey, is it coming time to nearly lose Thornton as this doesn’t look good?
@chata:
Good as Sale just gave up a no-out double…..common Thornton, come in and shut this shizz down and get the yips outta ya
Sale : 0IP….3H…Love it as a Thornton owner
wow … sale gives up 3 consecutive hits ,
and ozzie summons crain
Now Crain is in? Does Ozzie hate Thornton?
rhp crain faces lefty hitter barton …
ozzie should lose this game .
@Grey:
Niese, Esmil, or Narveson?
What about getting Desmond for Contreras? I’m rocking Jamie Carrol as my MI right now. 10 tm NL only.
@Grey
J. Zimmerman or Beachy?
Hola grey-
14 team H2H 6×6 (ops + holds) 30 roster spots so FA is gahbage… do u like any of these guys more than my Tim Stauffer (all were recently dropped) or should I just play match-ups accordingly:
James McDonald – not sure I believe
Carl Pavano – hate k rate and league. Pretty sure I hate him.
Bud Norris – think he’s better than first 2 showings, but team sucks as does park, but love the k potential
Homer Bailey – I know he’s a few weeks away
Right now I have Tiny Tim benched, so I’m not over-reacting quite yet. Didn’t like 2nd start at home at all… Just wanted your take on FA ugly ducklings to see if you spot a gem. We usually agree, so please let me know.
Thx
@chata:
Walked him with ball four nearly going over the catchers head.
@Nick:
Beach
@Chata Barton is one of those rare left handed batters that is actually arguably better against lefties than righties statistically. But I’m an A’s fan, so yeah, I hope he loses this game too.
Ozzy is pulling some mad wizardry where is fakes like he’s pulling Crain then Sweeney comes up only to get Thornton coming back in
Thanks Mr2Bits. That’s what I was leaning towards.
Ok, I have no idea what to do with Thornton or th Sox bullpen right now
Wow, rolling Sale, Crain, and Thornton out in the space of one inning…committee indeed.
@chata: To do that, you’d have to get in your DeLorean and stop his parents from making “Alexis” his given name.
@Cole: If you’re fine on saves, I’d do it.
The White Sox closer situation is a mess.
Sheesh.
@Grey:
Do we know anything more about this cuban outfielder that the Rangers just signed for 15 million? Leonys Martin – The blurb I read said his bat isn’t major league ready just yet but is expected to be called up this year…
i want ozzie in my fantasy league
Christ Thornton gives me indigestion. He is a one-trick pony and has lost all control of his fast ball. He is definitely not the closer anymore.
@Chris: Narveson
@Cole: Eh
@Nick: Beachy, tomato-tomahto.
@El Burro: I’m starting Stauffer at home.
@Sal: He’s nothing as of right now.
@chata: Ha!
drop Aviles for Sean Rod?
@Grey
10-man points league through ESPN…
should I drop Ervin Santana and/or Carlos Pena and grab Angel Sanchez, Johnny Gomes, Hiroki Kuroda, Jordan Zimmerman, Phil Hughes, John Lackey, or Gavin Floyd?
Any ideas on playing time for Trumbo once Morales is back next month?
Grey : Who should I replace Thornton with? I’m good on closers as he was my 5th.
Jeremy Guthrie
Kevin Correia
Josh Tomlin
Aaron Crow
Sam LeCure
@anon: If you like…
@Dimond G: Ervin for Kuroda.
@GTS: A game or two a week unless he starts hitting well.
@Mr2Bits: I wouldn’t pick up any of those other pitchers.
beachy is also available…
@Grey:
gotta be better than Thornton
Wow handcuffed Thornton with Sale the other day. So the line today is 6 hits, 2 walks, 6 runs…..1 inning pitched.
Is there somebody else who Ozzie might move too nexT?
To anyone thought on picking up Gomes, Fuld Gordon or A. Soriano to replace Hamilton
@EnglishMetsFan: Ha!
@Pooch: Maybe they’ll Peavy close when he returns.
Somewhere Bobby Jenks is smiling quietly to himself.
Meh..that is what a bench is for. Lucky for me I benched Liriano in all appropriate leagues prior to today and will do the same for Thornton. He is a good pitcher, no need to drop..it is a long season. Now if it gets to June and I need the bench and nothing changes..
Oh and lucky me I picked up Raburn on WW for Omar Infante. He will be my Hill insurance for a little while.
@Steve: That is funny…
@Wake Up: Ozzie badmouthed him all the way out the door, did he not?
i think ozzie gets in thier heads,these guys are awesome pithers any other inning,it will be interesting
@Steve: No, No…you made me laugh…
Grey do you think it’s Sergio Santos time, or is just time to avoid the Sox bullpen altogether?
Bruce out with a tweaked groin…time for razzers to stop tweaking groins when they hear Bruce…
@Dimond G: Kuroda
@Pooch: Ouch
@lost: Gordon
@Steve: Drinking a beer with Bobby Thigpen…
@Jack: No on Santos.
@Wake Up: Ha
@Wake Up: wasn’t being sarcastic…was saying good onya
Glad I didn’t take Liriano in any roto leagues. Next week’s a new week in H2H Frankie, keep your head in the game.
For real though, I seriously hate myself for drafting that POS Liriano. Hopefully he’ll string together a few useful starts so I can flip him to some other poor schmuck.
@Wake Up: Oh – no offence taken whatsoever. I was just seeking confirmation that Jenks indeed left the White Sox on bad terms.
Too lazy to look it up
Smoak or Trumbo?
Uh – is there any real need for Rauch here?
@Steve: Oops. Didn’t realise they were still in the 8th. Is it a Save opp?
3b sub for zimmerman in 5×5 12 team? I have Fielder @ 1b and Big Donkey @ CI. LaPorta or Gaby?
ryan raburn, Mitch Moreland and gomes on the waiver wire, any of them a better pick up THAN: desmond jennings or maybe Pagan?
@Grey: Thigpen taakes one look at Jenks’ chin and immediately discovers where his mullet went.
You starting Kennedy today?
@3FingersBrown: Ha
@GTS: Smoak
@Steve: If he finishes the game… I’m starting Kennedy…
@HoosierDaddy: LaPorta
@Tony: Gomes over Desmond.
This little late-breaking cameo from Snider is vexing to me in my H2H matchup.
@Steve: He has 3 steals already. Weird.
@Grey: Everyone’s running (well, not everyone, but you know what I mean). Murph stole 2 today and got caught stealing as well.
ugh, I never thought I would say these words, but Span, sonofabench!
@Steve: Murphy’s caught stealing was when he got picked off 3rd.
And Juan Pierre got picked off twice today. Also Langerhans and Alcides E. got picked off today.
@VinWins: Ah, thanks. Third base not being kind to the Rangers of late.
My Fuld for his Liriano is a no brainer, eh?
@Grey: Start Kennedy vs. STL tonight?
I need your help, Razzballers. No, not trade advice. I need psychiatric advice. Here’s my pitching staff in my 13 team league:
SP: Cliff Lee
SP: Francisco Liriano
SP: Brett Anderson
SP: Clay Buchholz
SP: Edinson Volquez
SP: Carlos Zambrano
I picked up Ogando and had him in this week (thank GOD).
I need you to tell me that I actually have a good staff. I need you to tell me that I gotta stick with my guns and not make a panic move (OK, maybe I’ll bench Liriano).
Please tell me it’s going to be OK.
PS – Their ERA’s: 7.84, 9.42, 2.29, 7.20, 5.82, 5.25. FRESH.
PPS – It’s a quality start league. Anderson’s 5.2 inning performance today was PAINFUL.
Liriano usually is bad in April and especially this year because he basically missed spring training. I wouldn’t worry too much about him. I am just glad his walks went down.
For anyone:
I need a backup 2B for my deep H2H Points league. Right now, the two choices I see are Bill Hall or Jamey Carroll. I’m leaning toward Carroll because he has SS eligibility. What do you guys think?
Also, is there anyone you can think of with a little upside potential that I could pick up instead? The fact that I am choosing between Hall and Carroll should show the level of depth I am picking from.
Thanks!
B. Roberts(bench hitter) or Pineda?
@preptime: He’s even worse in May
@tHe sHiT: He said earlier he is starting Kennedy
Mets pitcher Chris Young has soreness in his surgically repaired arm and his next scheduled start has been pushed back two days until Sunday.
New York plans to bring D.J. Carrasco out of the bullpen for a spot start in Atlanta on Friday night.
Hudson getting rocked. Giving my ratios AIDS.
I own Posada, and Soto was inexplicably dropped. Do I put in a waiver claim on Soto and drop Posada?
@Wake Up: Thanks!
@RonWashington’sStache: Yes. Have you been eating powdered donuts?
@tHe sHiT: np
@rws I would
Who the eff told Jeff Baker he could play?
Stupid Wandy. Doesn’t he realise that team won’t score any runs for him?
@Steve: Ugh.
Similar question as before:
Gomes, Berkman, or Andres Torres?
Sorry Grey this 5 OF league is really f’in with my shizz
Why does mlbtv on ps3 suck horsetaint?
Is Freddie Freeman Droppable? Whats this dudes outlook? Drop him for sergio Santos or possibly Motte if I’m speculating for K’s and Saves?
@Tony looking very schmohawky. I avoided him, but if I owned him I may give him a little leash to see. Depends how pressing ur need for bullpen help is.
10-team H2H: I can get Roy Halladay, Soria, and Quentin for Jonathan Sanchez, Nunez, Bruce, and Ethier. I would then have Quentin, B.J. Upton, Markakis, and Sizemore in the OF. Should I run with this or too much to give up?
Man, in my main H2H league I’m having just a terrible day.
1-22.
But… that 1 hit was Alfonso Soriano’s 3-run shot. Talk about making it count.
@Wake Up: I thought it was a legit question. I gather you didn’t.
@RonWashington’sStache: I think he asked if you were eating powdered donuts because of Ron Washington’s Mustache’s history with white powder and things
hahahahaha. last blurb was awesome. new era – greatness.
F*** you Wandy.
Of course, now that I’ve picked him up, Angel Sanchez has stopped hitting.
Ha. My bad. Pretty funny.
Freddie Freeman breaks up Johnson’s no-no. That’s gotta count for something right?
@mauledbypandas: Ha
@knighttown: Yup
@PureBwa: Can’t help you with Buchholz, but the staff looks okay outside of that.
@MouseRat: Hall
@Wake Up: Roberts
@VinWins: Thanks for the heads up!
@Scalez: Ha!
@RonWashington’sStache: Sure
@Nomar Mr. Nice Guy: Berkman for now, Torres when healthy.
@Tony: Motte
@nick m.: Too much.
@J Rich: Thanks!
Sale, Crain, Santos, Motte, 6 million ways to die, choose one…
Suicide it’s a suicide bidda bye-bye.
FINALLY WIETERS, you beautiful son of a bitch. Dude ate his Wieties this time.
…and upped his reps on the Joe Wieder home gym also.
@Scalez: ha…glad someone got my old school rap reference.
@Tom Emanski: that’s no shizz…
@Wilsonian make it six million and one with your eyes closed.
And here’s a fun one for ya…
Pick 3:
Zobrist, Angel Sanchez, Damon, Boesch, Frenchy, Patterson
@Wilsonian: oops, add in Jose Lopez to the mix, still pick 3.
shit…the 2 rays and Boesch I guess. No wait…sucide.
10 team h2h 5×5
i have morneau and laroche looking for an upgrade, what do you think of trading ethier and rasmus for adam dunn and alex rios???
@Wilsonian: Damon, Zobrist, Boesch….
@jared: Sounds good.
Cards outfield paying early dividends for me this year even with an appendix explosion.
Holliday drilled in the hand. Me and my big mouth.
@Grey: thanks! I guess you missed my old school rap question… choose one of Sale, Crain, Santos, Motte.
@grey: Follow-up to an earlier question. I am carrying Thornton and Sale…NOW would you drop either of them for Narverson?
@Grey: Also, Scott Rolen or Jose Lopez off waivers to replace Zimmerman?
Shoulda benched Kennedy…8 earned so far…
and the puma back on the prowl again tonite!
I just can’t help but laugh at my totals tonight:
4/43, 3 R, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB, .093 AVG
14.0 IP, 21 H, 21 ER, 7 BB, 9 K, 1 W, 0 SV, 13.50 ERA, 2.00 WHIP
Note: The only player with more than one hit, Rasmus, has 2 H, 2 R, and 2 RBIs… against Kennedy, who I just happen to have pitching…
I need a drink.
I think I just saw Jackie O climbing out of Chase Field with a horrified look on her face.
I in a money league – I have no clue where the players that joined this league came from – all I know is that they most likely don’t get any help from Grey so this looked like easy money for me
This is the commissioners posting in this league and My reply – I am always looking to help my fellow managers

welp….. dont have to worry about winning ERA and WHIP this week…. I own Kennedy.. dude is throwing softballs up there
@Tele:
Spoke too soon… LaRussa has decided to leave Kennedy in. Add the damage off another ER to that line.
-16.5 pts and the night’s still young!
if LaRussa is the one who made the decision…can you blame him? LOL
@Tele: I’m feeling you man! my team is shittin the bed right now… OH WELL.. its only week 2 and i gotta 10-0 start last week!
Frenchy or Patterson over Lopez?
I’d feel bad for Kennedy owners, but I have Felix, Liriano, Carpenter, Hudson, Brett Anderson, and Bumgarner. Hanson was awful before yesterday, Norris has been dreadful. Nolasco has been my best pitcher. I’m last in every pitching category in my league. Except K, I’m second to last.
Merry WHIP-mas to us!
@scalez:
You bet I can!
Still in shock that Josh Hamilton is on the DL
Nostradamus Predictions for 2011
Josh Hamilton will be on the DL
who says Nostradamus Predictions don’t come true
@Tele how can you blame LaRussa for that? Blame Gibby.
@mrbaseball I saw it right next to the Brian Roberts will be on the DL quatrain.
I’m holding Thornton and Sale…but luckily I have Colby and Puma, so I decided to sit Kennedy tonight.
Kennedy gives up 9 runs and Pujols has no RBI’s
@scalez:
I can, and intend to, blame everyone from LaRussa to Steve Bartman.
C. Tillman last only 1.2 innings against The Yankees Its tough earning a living against the american east
@Wilsonian: Sale
@McBainus: Sale
@McBainus: Rolen
@Tele: Ouch
@scalez: Ha!
@mrbaseball: Ha!
@Wilsonian: Lopez who? Felipe? Wilton? Jose? Not over Jose.
@Travis: Ha!
…and Canada. Always blame Canada.
@Grey: Am I to imply that you still have faith that Thornton will turn it around, and actually earn some faith from Ozzie?
there’s a pair of steaks for Pujols.
Not a lot of pitching in Arizona the last couple of days.
Better 5×5 replacement for Zimmerman: Betemit or Callaspo?
@Grey: ha…figured it was understood that there was only one Lopez legitimately worth owning…on that note, it was Jose.
or Freese? Thanks
Should I drop Narveson for Freese? I have Mark Reynolds at 3B right now.
C’mon Kemp. Brighten my day.
@Steve: Or don’t. Your call.
Hi Grey
Would you drop Alex Gordon for David Murphy?
@Steve: How about you, Krispie? Got some love to give?
@Steve: Guess not.
And of course I had Kennedy benched in Fantasy Razzball.
Nowhere else though…
grey would you drop a guy like pena for a hot bat say hundley avila?im guessing no,last year i dumped big pappi to early and i dropped berkman 2 days befor he went yard 4 times in 5 games
Beard Inc. cosing the door in the bay. Why do they all need beards? It’s San Francisco, come out of the closet already!
@Grey – Wieters just hit the WW. Drop Jorge for him? Thanks!
Aramis, Sandoval, or Alvarez in replacement for Zimm?
@Dan: aramis
