anyone whos wasted valuable time and roster spots picking up guys like aquilno lopez/jason frasor, etc. from the jays 3 years ago, or any of last years marlins relievers (tankersley, lidstrom, owens, gregg, ?? some other people) waiting for one to become the official closer, or even baltimore end of last year, how many people had jim hoey when he got bombed, just because he had a -shot- at getting some end of year saves..

[...] already explained that I won’t draft any closers in the first tier. Rudy Gamble broke down why he does grab a closer in the first tier. Anyway, what are these tiers and who are in them? Here’s all the closers and their setup men [...]

I'm glad someone is finally countering the "don't pay for saves" mania that seems to have reached irrational heights. Nothing is worse than hoping for 25 saves from a marginal closer who kills your whip and ERA (and K/9, if you're in a league like mine that uses that ration rather than straight-up Ks). Hold on a sec--I agree with trajan that I'm better off if my competition reads and takes that "don't pay for saves" stuff seriously, thereby undervaluing the top closers. Take this article down off your website now!

Couldn't agree more with your assessment, but I hope every one of the donkeys in all of my fantasy leagues read Berry's article so they let the top closers slip too far.

"It's an easy category to win." Man, I totally agree with that. How anyone grabs a backup hitter at the draft when there's still closers on the board, is beyond me. If you're looking at Erstad or Brandon Lyon, why wouldn't you grab a closer?

Wow great article. I'm a big believer in picking up saves early and always getting one more closer than the competition. It's an easy category to win.

BallparkBob's last blog post..National League Fantasy Baseball Prospects
