I’ve read that it gets a lot better, but I must not be there yet.

Two shorter, darker books I would recommend: The Sense of an Ending by Julain Barnes and Train Dreams by Denis Johnson. I like all of Johnson’s work, but if you haven’t read any of it, Train Dreams is a good start…unfortunately, I wouldn’t say that it’s representative of his work, but it’s enjoyable.

You read The Art of Fielding, right? I think I recall you had. If not, read that before anything.
