Getting Jose Reyes

Postby marcheese » Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:38 am

I've been talking with the owner of Jose Reyes, and I think we're close to an agreement, I'm just waiting for him to accept now. I would be giving Brandon Phillips, Chris Young (OF), and Asdrubal Cabrera for Jose Reyes. Personally, I think this is a huge steal for me. This is a 16 team league, and currently Cabrera is my starting SS. If I do this trade, I would probably pick up Michael Cuddyer to throw in my empty OF spot. (This league has no bench spots). I would then slide Jose Lopez into my 2B spot, with Jose Reyes now occupying my SS position. As for a MI, there are guys like Betancourt, Andrus, Alex Gonzalez to pick up. Sure now are inspiring at this point, but I'm quick on the waiver wire and will find someone formidable in the season. So overall, I think this is a great trade for me. However, he may counter with Reyes for Votto and Phillips. I do like the original offer, but should I settle for the latter?

A bit of an update. He asked instead of Asdrubal Cabrera, if I could throw in Conor Jackson. So it would look like this:

I get: Jose Reyes

I give: Brandon Phillips, Chris Young (OF) and Conor Jackson

I really like Conor Jackson, so I was thinking of countering by including Fred Lewis instead of Conor Jackson. Good idea, or should I just accept the deal including Conor Jackson?

I'd prefer to throw in a pitcher there instead of CoJack. Don't you have a junk closer you can add?

Try Fred Lewis but overall I'm not crazy about the trade for you. You're giving away a lot of pieces in a very deep league. What if Andrus hits .260 and steals 40 bags, would you be making this trade still? SS is not your weakness. Pitching is.

Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.

Another update, he would include Mark Teahen as well. So it looks like this...

I get: Jose Reyes and Mark Teahen

I give: Conor Jackson, Brandon Phillips and Chris Young

How's this looking? Better or should I try Fred Lewis?

No offense to anyone, but this is just my 2 cents. I say you make the deal where you give Phillips, Jackson and Young for Reyes. If you get Teahan too then that's good.

Phillips is a top 5 2B no doubt, and Jackson and Young have potential, but potential can fizzle fast. I always take the big name guys over 2 or 3 average guys.

You have 3 2B in Phillips, Cabrera and Lopez, so one of them is expendable. Yes you do need pitching, but what pitcher(s) can you get for Phillips, Jackson and Young?

Also, who is on waivers that you could pickup to fill any spots?

My 2 cents - always take the best guy even if it means leaving a hole, and definitely if you can get that stud for 3 average players. Hell Reyes is a potential #1 overall. You could possibly even flip Reyes for 2 or 3 stud pitchers. I just think making that trade for Reyes gives you more options than the 3 you're giving up. But I also don't know the other owners in your league.

Good luck.

Thanks ticklesack. The deal surprisingly got better for me! He told me to throw in a RP, and he only has 2. KRod and Valverde. Obviously he wouldn't give KRod, so I'm asking for Valverde as well. So unless he backs out, it looks like I'm getting...

Jose Reyes and Jose Valverde
For
Brandon Phillips, Conor Jackson, and Chris Young

I think I definitely win now.
