Drafting 15th in a NFBC draft is no joke... very frustrating to see all your targets disappearing right before your eyes... anyways do you think I can compete with this team:

1. Prince Fielder 1B
2. Andrew McCutchen OF
3. David Wright 3B
4. B.J. Upton OF
5. Madison Bumgarner SP1 (not a bad start, no?)
6. Adam Jones OF (I didn't plan on drafting 3 OF's within 6 picks but all C's and MI's were gone including McCann and Kendrick, It was either Jones or Mauer)
7. Mat Latos SP2
8. Jose Valverde RP (I should have waited, but the draft was so unpredictable)
9. Emilio Bonifacio (or A. Ramirez, i went with the flex)
10. Jesus Montero DH (I'm going to have to wait for him to gain eligibility)
11. Max Scherzer SP3
12. Ike Davis CI
13. Kyle Farnsworth RP
14. Aaron Hill 2B (I waited the very last minute on 2B, seriously everyone was gone)
15. Wandy Rodreguez SP4
16. Nolan Reimold OF
17. Jose Altuve MI
18. Brett Myers RP
19. Eric Thames (idk Snider is killin' right now, 5th OF though)
20. Jonathon Niese SP5
21. Dayan Viciedo OF Bench
22. Mike Adams RP ( i wanted Romo but he was drafted in the 20th?)
23. Ian Stewart 3B Bench
24. Joaquin Benoit RP (handcuff)
25. Alexi Casilla 2B/SS Bench
26. Josh Donaldson (starting the season with 1 catcher)
27. Roger Bernadina OF Bench
28. Brad Peacock SP5 (this ones for you Grey)
29. Fautino De Los Santos RP

This draft took over 3 hours... I thought I would be able to avoid reaching a get good values with my MI's, but as you can see that was not the case... I'm happy with my Pitching, but thats about it...

You could trade Valverde for a mi. I think it doesn't look bad at all.

thanks Bourn appreciate it, trading Valverde is a good idea especially if F. de los Santos somehow closes...

Your relievers look fine. You have three closers. It's more than enough. Your hitting looks solid too. With these deep of leagues, you need to avoid injuries, but if you do it should be competitive...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

You're going to have trouble on the pitching side. You're whippy and with just 5 starters you're going to struggle in Wins and Ks. You can't afford to carry Benoit as a handcuff in the NFBC. Valverde isn't losing his job. Having three closers even is a luxury. Meyers is iffy though. You probably need to average starting 6.5 closers and 2.5 relievers per week to be competitive. Maybe fewer 3 reliever weeks if Valverde and Farnsworth go off. I like De Los Santos as a speculative play for a different team. No way you can carry him here.

Bernadina is dead weight and probably Ian Stewart too. You'll need to add SPs and fast or you're going to get whooped.

You also need to get a second catcher right away. In the NFBC, categories are extremely tight. You can't afford to take a bunch of zero weeks at C2. I do like the Donaldson play at though. You better hope Montero gets eligibility early.

You have some nice pieces. I like Davis, Hill, Reimold and Altuve. That was a good run. It's not terrible, but you need a better structure. Right now you're going to be lower half of you division in 3 pitching categories and you're not good enough on offense to compensate.

my bad oaktownsteve I actually have 6 SPs (Madibum, Latos, Scherzer, Wandy, Niese, and Peacock)... does that change your assessment a bit... the plan was to drop one of my RP's for a catcher before the season starts... and i'll probably try to trade one of my closers for a bat during the season...

thanks for the advice fellas, much appreciated...

No it's my bad. I shoulda counted starters. Nevertheless, it doesn't make that much difference.

I'll give you the numbers: if you get 200 ks from Bum, Latos and Scherzer, 170 from Wandy and Peacock, 150 from Niese, and those numbers are wildly optimistic, you're looking at 1240Ks. Good enough for 222/390 in the overall.

Similarly in wins, you need 93 just to finish in the upper 1/2 in the overall. again assuming an optimistic 4 ytfrom each closer spot (12 total) you need 13.5 average from your remaining 6 starter spots just to crack the 50th percentile. Look at your pitching and see how you feel about the chances of that average wins per starter.

You have 10% or your roster tied up in closers in waiting when you already have 3 closers. Not an efficient use of resources.

Right now you need everything to go right to finish top 3 and cash and you have no chance in the overall.

But there are some nice pieces. Get busy. It's not a lost cost. Now comes the fun part.
