Okay, in a fit of frustration because of my inability to pick up a wireless signal during the Razzball Commenters slow mock draft last night, I started doing my own rankings and projections system for my own reference. While looking over the CHONE projections, I came across the name of Mike Hessman, who apparently is a 29 year old AAAA 3B prospect for the Tigers. Anyway, I've never heard of him, but I sorta like the idea of him.
The CHONE line for Mike Hessman (446ab):
31/68/78/.222/4
http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1808&position=3BOk, so he's a serious Balboni hacker and he makes Jack Cust and Dallas McPherson touch themselves at night, but he's knocking at the door of DH-dom and could be the everyday 3B if Inge sucks or if Sheffield gets hurt again. Hessman could put up respectable numbers.
Anyway... most of you know the love affair I have with AAAA-type guys like Nelson Cruz and McPherson, so I will be bringing you a Hessman Trophy watch throughout the 2009 season.
Peace.
PJ
UPDATE: Forgot to add that he hit 74 HR between 2007 and 2008 in AAA and with the Tigers in 899 ab or a HR every 12.1 ab.
UPDATE #2: You can imagine a guy like this being a nice filler if your regular 3B or DH goes on the DL.
