Granderson's value?

Postby peter » Tue Jan 20, 2009 10:45 am

I know it's still a little early, but I've got the Itch - and my leaguemates are starting to talk pre-season deals. It's a 12 team, h2h, 9 keeper (non-auction) league.

I've been offered a first round draft pick (which is more/less equal to a 10th rnd pick due to the keepers - but there's usually a little better than 10th round talent available) for Curtis Granderson. If traded Granderson, I'd also have room for another keeper. It would probably be... Nelson Cruz.

So the deal, basically, looks like this: I give Curtis Granderson, I get Nelson Cruz and a "10th round" draft pick.

Thoughts? Questions? All are appreciated.

Hey, Peter, good to see you again.

My first thought is to say you shouldn't do it, but what kind of talent is available in the "10th" round?

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Hey Grey - glad to be here...

You know, right after I clicked "submit", I thought, Nelson Cruz? wtf? I know what kind of player/blogger Granderson is (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=granderson_curtis). Cruz is a risk/reward guy (his minor league HR #s and avg are pretty strong). Mildly interesting fact: Granderson is younger than Cruz. So, yeah, I started thinking that I was overthinking this and should stick w/ CG. But. admittedly, I'm a sucker for getting extra early picks.

As for the stuff that's usually available in the "10th" round... in March 2008 some of the players picked included: Paul Konerko, Ryan Zimmerman, Adrian Gonzalez, Alex Gordon, Chad Billingsley, Jeff Francoeur, Matt Kemp, Jermaine Dye, Jason Bay, Javier Vazquez, etc.

Wow, lots of great value in the "10th" round, but, yeah, Cruz is nothing more than a high risk/high reward type while Grandy can be relied on for certain production. I wouldn't do the trade.

That's a secret 2 for 1 trade that doesn't look like it. Those are rarely good for whoever gets the 2.

I'd stick with Granderson.
