What strategy of yours backfired in the '08 draft?
Better yet, what strategy served you well?
What will you employ to improve your draft for '09?

I got backlash from Rich Hill and Harang. Wasn't a strategy as much as two targets that killed me.

I thought I'd be all smarty and draft pitching early. Dumb. The earliest I'll even think of drafting another pitcher is like the 7th round.

That said, make sure to monitor other players picks so that you make adjustments in case others are picking up pitchers early.

I think my failure to adjust in the draft to my league's draft tendencies really hurt me. I clung too steadfastly to position scarcity and really just ended up outsmarting myself while getting plain unlucky (read: drafted two catchers in the first ten rounds and one starter (my-vani).

I had some serious busts that I clung to for way too long (Tulo) to justify their draft position.

It was the first time I played in a CBS cash league and for some reason thought that two productive catchers, a bunch of closers, and stacking my OF was the key to getting ahead. It didn't really work out. My IF was so weak and my good catchers hit like, well, good catchers.

I don't know if any particular draft strategy killed me other than, I think focusing on players who are 2nd halfers (i.e. PABST) and players on teams that will need to perform in the late season would have helped my team in Sept. I was in first place from week 1 to week 24 but I lost in the first round of the playoffs, I had the best team by any measure, except when it mattered most.
