Have they been playing that song for 100 years? Folk singer Steve Goodman wrote the song in 1984 during their playoff run to cheer himself up while in the midst of dying from lukemia. Quote: "THEY GOT THE POWER THEY GOT THE SPEED... TO BE THE BEST IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE" Yup... pretty bad. Yes it's cheesy, and yes it's obnoxious, but so was the Baseball Boogie.
