We added another 65 teams in the last week, and now have 688 teams. Some of the Razzball experts have formed the 58th league, Razzball Elites, to compete in the RCL. There are currently only openings in a $50 buy-in league, so, you know what that means. Please head over to the RCL Registration post to see how you can become a commissioner, or just add a team to one of the leagues. (For a step-by-step guide to creating a new league, see this post in the fantasy baseball forums.) Next week we’ll cap the leagues and start a waiting list so we will have managers to fill late openings and create complete 12-team leagues when we have enough signed up.

The first Razzball Commenter League draft of 2013 goes tonight; who will be the first player chosen? Ryan Braun? Miguel Cabrera? Mike Trout? Last year 5 different players were selected first overall, with Miggy leading the way with 28 selections. Albert Pujols (10), Ryan Braun (5), Matt Kemp (4), and Jose Bautista (1) also had that honor. I’m guessing Cabrera will lead this category once again, but with under 50% of the total leagues.

Roy Halladay was the first pitcher chosen in two thirds of the 48 leagues, while Clayton Kershaw was the number one pitcher in 10 leagues. Justin Verlander (5) and Cliff Lee (1) were the other aces to lead the pitcher selections. Halladay went 9th overall in the ECFBL for his earliest selection. I expect Verlander and Kershaw to once again make this list, joined by Stephen Strasburg.

Craig Kimbrel was the first closer grabbed in 45 leagues. Mariano Rivera went first in the other 3. Kimbrel was usually taken in the 6th or 7th rounds, but once went early in the fourth round (38th overall in Original Recipe). No doubt Kimbrel will once again dominate this category.

Last season 440 different players were chosen, with 218 being selected in all leagues. Another 15 were drafted in 47 of the 48 leagues. 33 were taken in just 1 league. 20 players were selected at least once in the first round. The 2012 draft info is all here. With 10 extra leagues already this season, I hope whoever compiles this stuff is up to the task.

Oh, well, go check out the signup page and join us for the 2013 Razzball Commenter League season. If you are signing on as a commissioner, include the draft time in the “notes” column when you register to attract people who want to draft at the same time. It can be changed, but 7 votes from league members are needed to switch to a new time. And current commissioners, please check in on your league occasionally in case a spot has opened up with a dropout. Thanks!
