Would you say Kershaw/Stewart for Utley, Haren/Stewart for Utley or do you think it will take more than that. He says he needs pitching and everyone on his roster is available except Carl Crawford and Andrew McCutchen. Also, who would you rather give up, Haren or Kershaw? I figured, if I give Haren up, I'd grab Correia. If I give Kershaw up, I'd grab Latos.

Drop some knowledge on it, Grey.

I'd do either for Utley. I'd move Kershaw first. Not sure if it needs more.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

He hath rejected. I was thinking of throwing in Hamilton. I know he's been poop but what do you think?

I am quite perplexed by this manager. He says he needs pitching and that only Crawford and McCutchen are untouchable.

I offer him Kershaw and Stewart for Utley.

He rejects.

I offer him Kershaw/Stewart/Hamilton for Utley.

He rejects. His rationale: he wants a deal where he gives up more players than he gets.

??

I tell him that he probably shouldn't tell people that he's trying to trade with that bit of info.

Finally, I ask who else he would like to give me, along with Utley, for Kershaw

His response: the infamous, "Hmm, I'll have to take a look at your team tonight."

What is this dude trying to do?

I don't think his logic is all that unsound. I'd always want to be getting the best player in the deal and don't think Kershaw/Stewart is near good enough for Utley.

Just ask him what he'd be willing to give up for Kershaw alone and go from there.

It is almost always beneficial to be on the single player side of a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 trade. It means you're going for a stud and giving up less than stud players. In a 10 team league there will almost assuredly be very viable options on the free agent list that are only a little bit worse than the players you're giving up for the stud. If it's a deeper league then it can make sense to be on the side receiving more than 1 player. To get Utley in a 2 for 1 you'd probably have to give him a position he needs help at lets say someone along the lines of a Youk (or some 3rd-4th round level player) and then someone to fill in his gap that he'll have a 2B after the trade goes through (maybe a Brandon Phillips). Kershaw + Stewart wouldn't get you much more than a 5th rounder off my team (assuming a 10 team league) and even then I'd probably be hesitant unless I was bone dry at 2B and SP.

Grey,

Based on my team, what say you in regards to Qualls and Olivo. They're both available in my league...

I'd take Olivo over Snyder.

Normally, I'd say Qualls should be owned, but this seems to be a really shallow league and I have no idea who you'd drop to get him. If there's a bad closer on the wire now, I guess there'll be a bad closer on the wire later when you might be desperate enough to use one.

I have no idea how you'd work a 2-for-1 with Utley being part of the "two", unless Braun is the "one". Sounds like you're trying to acquire a top 5 player without giving up anything that hurts to lose, so I doubt Braun will enter the discussion.

Doesn't sound like an Utley deal will work.

Ya, the Utley deal isn't happening.

Is Madson going to continue to close when Lidge comes back? If he's not going to be getting any more chances I'd like to grab Qualls for him.
