draft results from a first timer

Postby beantownmp » Fri Aug 28, 2009 7:33 am

12 Team League. I missed the first hour of the draft. This is what I ended up with:

QB - Cassel
RB - Turner & Barber
WR - Colston, Wayne, & Marshall
TE - Winslow
K - Gostkowski
DST - Pittsburgh

Bench:
QB - Orton
RB - Norwood, L.Washington
WR - Breaston, N.Washington
TE - V.Davis

What are my weak spots and places I should look to improve? I think I did alright with missing the first hour and getting defaul rankings  . I'll be hoping for a solid year from Cassell, thats for sure.

Not bad, especially for missing hour one (although you are really gambling with Orton and Cassell). I would look to upgrade over Washington, your backup WRs and Davis. Who's on your waiver wire?

Marshall was just suspended for the rest of preseason. Dude is a top #5 psychical talent, yet might truly belong in a mental hospital.

Honestly Cassell is going to be Waiver material this year. Agree w/ the previous commentator; you did extremely well considering you autodrafted for an hour. Drop Nate Washington (word is his injury is worse than expected and he might miss extended time. So here's the moves I'd look to do:

1) Drop Washington, pick up best available receiver. If Gage or Josh Morgan are available I'd snag them- they're going to be the #1's on their teams. Otherwise just go for the #2 w/ the most upside you can find.

2) Package Cassell, look for an upgrade. He's going to struggle MIGHTILY there so trade him to someone who thinks he might be a serviceable backup. I'd look to give up him and probably Pittsburgh D (I know they're really good but the difference btw defenses is minimal) and target guys like Rivers, Rodgers, McNabb, Romo. You might get an owner to consider that and value-wise you'd be a big winner.

If you're able to pull off these 2 moves you should have a very, very strong team for 12 team; good enough to win your league in my opinion.

Got offered Jay Cutler and Donald Driver for Matt Cassel and Reggie Wayne. Should I do it??

No, Wayne is too valuable.
Johnny Ringo: All right, 'lunger'. Let's do it.
Doc Holliday: Say when.
