Alright this is 100% unrelated to anything and completely random. Trying to plan a trip to Vegas to play cards. Want to stay 4 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday) in mid-September. Anybody have tips on a good place to look for stuff like this? I'm getting all this bullshit stuff when I Google it up.

i heard that old Vegas is the best place for gamers to go. If that's true, awesome, cuz those are the best hotel rates.... I like Vegas.com

but make sure you ALWAYS check the site of the hotel directly before you book on a third party site....

Born and raised in vegas, so I can help you out.

Fisrt off, if you push your trip back a month you can most likely save a lot of money. September is still hot as balls and still prime tourist time so hotel rates will be higher and you will sweat your ass off. Mid-October begins the "off season" if there is one in vegas you can probably save some dough on rooms. However, I've heard they're desperate to fill rooms at this point so you may be able to get a deal anytime.

As far as playing cards go, there are a few ways to look at it-

Strip Casinos
The strip casinos have poker rooms packed with tourists that watched the WSOP on ESPN and think they're going to win a million. These rooms are packed with drunken idiots with pockets full of cash, but there will be a few sharks in there taking everyone's money. You may have to wait a long time to get a table, especially if you want to play with four friends. If you are good at poker and want some idiots to take money from but don't mind the wait, hit the strip casinos (Rio, Excalibur, MGM, NY NY, Planet Hollywood etc. etc.)

Off- Strip
Good poker rooms, shouldn't be a wait unless there's a tournament. More relaxed environment but with all the debauchery you can handle. Less drunken idiots, more locals who think they're proffesional gamblers (they're not) but still good games. If you just want to hang with your boys and play some cards I recommend this route. (GV Ranch, Sam's Town, Boulder Station, etc. etc. Just make sure its not a dump because there are a few of those- you can check with me if you like)

*the only draw back with off striup places is that, well, you're off the strip. Some places are pretty far away from the strip too ($20 cab ride?). If you don't care about the touristy stuff its cool but if you want to hit the clubs every night it could get pricey.

Downtown (old vegas)
and1mcgee is right sorta, there are a few good places to play in old vegas. But you don't want to stay there (unless you need a crack fix I guess). The few good places are near fremont street but its a rough part of town no matter how much they polish that turd. I'd say be careful if you go down there, stay on the beaten path and don't talk to strangers with knives. The Golden Nugget is a really cool place if you do go down there, then there's the fremont street experience that has a lot of casinos right there that you can play at. Same caveats as a strip casino poker room apply, though.

Big Money
If you're ballin out of control and bling blingin and whatnot you can hit the upscale joints (palazzo, bellagio, palms etc). But if you have cash to spare in vegas then you don't need my help. I included the palms here because its poker rooms are high limit. Lots of money in those rooms and it is too rich for my blood. Palms is the hot spot to go though and I'd recommend going there if you want to party. Good clubs and REALLY REALLY REALLY hot scandalous women. Playboy club is a must see as well.

Thanks for all the info. I'm going with a friend of mine we're pretty experienced card players we've gone to Atlantic City quite a few times (I used to live near NYC and he still does). We're looking for no-limit games between $1-2 (table limit's usually $300) and $5-10 (could be $2 g's, depends on the place). So I don't consider us "high rollers" we like to grind it out and win a little.

The place my buddy's looking at right now is "Luxor." It seems pretty nice but we can change to somewhere else if we find something better. Would you recommend it?

Luxor's a pit with inclinators, but it doesn't matter where you stay. You're never in your room. Just go with the best deal.

Well we really don't want to stay in a place that's a dive. We'd rather spend a little more and be in a place that has a good poker room and decent accomodations. So I'm guessing we should look elsewhere?

Try MGM, it's decent and good poker.

Luxor isn't bad. Never played there so I'm not sure about the poker rooms. I think you could do worse than the luxor but it isn't the best place to stay. Its a kind of theme casino that never really materialized in to anything nice. Sort of like the excalibur.

There's a new place called The M that I hear has great poker rooms, but I've never played there. I have been to their pool however and that's not a bad place to be. Lots of great scenery! Its also located at the south end of the strip, just a little east of the south point and a few other casinos. Its not far from the strip strip if that makes sense and not too expensive. Nice rooms, good food and all that jazz.

The Rio would probably have everything you're looking for too. They have a massive section of poker rooms and good amenities.

I'd say check out the golden nugget too, to play, not to stay.

I'm actually in vegas for the weekend right now. About to go put down a parlay and hit the pool and some umbrella drinks. I've got the Angels, Philly, Atlanta, Texas, Houston and maybe the rox. anyone have any good picks for tonights games?

Mandalay Bay is another great place to stay. Little pricier but it is worth it.

Yeah, my advice. Don't bet baseball.
