Trying to pick my 5 keepers. H2H roto league. Auction draft, keepers are 120% of previous year's draft value. FA pickups are $3 to keep.
Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, ss, MI, CI, MI, 5 OF, Util, 3 SP, 2 RP, 4 P
Cats: R, RBI, HR, TB, SB, OPS, ERA, WHIP, QS, K, SV, IP
Players in consideration with cost to keep:
1B Rizzo $3
3B Headley $2
SP Medlen $3
Those three are pretty much locks to keep. My other two are up in the air.
2B Aaron Hill $4
3B Sandoval $24
OF Granderson $33
OF BJ Upton $18
OF Beltran $14
OF Bourn $24
OF Bautista $52
SP Latos $13
SP Darvish $18
SP Peavy $3

I have two that I'm leaning towards, but don't want to sway opinion. Thoughts are apprec'd.

Hmm. Upton and Latos would probably be my two guys. Not huge savings, but not the massive over-payment of some of your other options. Hill at $4 is also an option, but as a Jay's fan I find it hard to recommend him.

Hill and Latos. Hill is a better 2B than people give him credit for and at $4 is an easy keep IMO.

I would go with Hill and BJ Upton.

I've gotta agree with Upton and Hill.

Thanks, guys. I'm leaning towards Hill and Upton. Even if Hill isn't a premier 2B, he's still maybe a top 6-7ish guy for cheap. Especially if other top 2B are being kept, I wouldn't want to have go into a bidding war on Hill as the top available 2B. I think Upton is about market value at $18, but with 5 OF slots I'd be concerned about having to fill them all via the draft.

I like Latos at $13 but I feel like I could win him back at around the same price if I want him, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't get him since there will be so many solid SPs available.

So I offered Adam Jones' owner a package of BJ ($18) a cheap keeper (e.g., Peavy $3) for Jones, and he said that he's not even keeping Pacman at $20 so he'll be a FA. Two questions:
1. Should I be pushing hard to acquire Jones and keep at $20? He asked for Rizzo $3 or Medlen $3.
2. Does Jones' availability change people's minds about whether I should keep Upton for $18? I think they are similar players so I could keep Latos at $13 and then try to win one of BJ or Jones in the draft.

Budget is $260.

I was just offered his Profar ($3) for my Headley ($2). Obviously Headley is a sick value (and established himself last year) and will probably be better this year, but would Profar be a better long term option?

Value is 120% of previous year's price, so I could keep either of these guys for a looooong time.

Keep Headley. Profar is a decent value but I am not sure he will increase his value this year. Not enough playing time will hinder him at least at the MLB level. Not a bad idea to go after him but more someone I would target mid-season then now. The hope would be that he is playing games but not enough of them to be useful and drives his owner crazy at which point you can snag him for cheap.

As for Jones, he is a decent value at $20 but nothing I would consider great. I would be fine dealing Medlen for him but that is mainly because I am not a believer in Medlen and would be happy to get something better in return. I would hang on to Rizzo though. Pretty good value for an up and comer.
