It's funny you say that when you're comparing Machado and Hosmer. Hosmer's only 23. Machado plays a more premium position and will, in time, get SS eligibility. Seems to me, based on positional scarcity, he might want to keep Machado as his upside is higher and the positions he'll play.
This is why I said so many people are buying into Machado and how similar it was to Hosmer last year. So many people were on the Hosmer bandwagon and drafting him way earlier than he should have gone. Machado should be really good someday but to expect a 19/20 year old to do it know, is ridiculous. So he plays SS but that only helps if he plays well enough to be worth rostering and that isn't a sure thing.
I see Hosmer as having a similar career path to what Heyward has had. Good 1st year, bad/disappointing second year, strong third year.
There was a time when prospects didn't get so much love and they were undervalued. I think it has swung the other way now. Too many people are trying to get the next big thing only they have too much expectation for such young players.
