Need help with my draft strategy - Streaming

Postby mindspin311 » Mon Feb 11, 2013 7:45 pm

So I think I am in sort of a unique situation here. During last season, I traded away my 3rd round pick to acquire a few pieces and make a final push. Given Yahoo's rules, I had to receive a pick back in return, along with the players, that was a 13th round.

So, I am going into a draft where I wont get a 3rd round pick, but I will have 2 13th round picks.

I want to draft with an eye on streaming. So, maybe 2-3 top pitchers, then CL and MR from that point forward. Where I need help is how to handle the 1st 5 rounds or so. Do I take 2 top hitters with my 2 picks and wait till the 4th round to make my 1st pitching selection? Or, do I get a hitter 1st round, top pitcher 2nd round, then depending on what's available, a hitter or another top pitcher in the 4th?

Let me know your thoughts. Also, I have the 6th pick, out of 12. Trying to maybe trade down and gain a 10th RD or so.

Hitting: R / H / 2B / 3B / HR / RBI / SB / BB / AVG
Pitching: GS / W / L / SV / K / ERA / WHIP / RAPP / QS

Roster TBD

I'll be going over draft strategy in the coming days/weeks...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

First off each draft can be different so you have to be flexible when you draft. I don't like going into the draft with a set direction only for things to go differently then expected and not be ready to adjust my strategy.

So saying that I would take hitters in the first couple rounds and look for pitching later. Depending on who is available at the 4th round, I still wouldn't necessarily jump on SP. Really depends on who is available at that point. For most of the first half of the draft, I am looking for best player available and not worrying so much about position. The later in the draft it goes, the more I start adding that to the equation.
