I'm in a 12 team 5x5 roto keeper league. We keep 15 players with salaries totaling up to $320. Then we have a 17 round draft. We start the season with only 2 FA pickups and then are awarded an another one every 3 weeks. So keepers are very important.

Here is who I'm planning on keeping so far.

C - Santana $25
1B - Trumbo (OF also) $18
2B - Hill $15
3B - Zimmerman $36
SS - Rutledge $15
OF - J. Upton $40
OF - Hamilton $32
OF - Harper $20
OF -
DH -
IF - Middlebrooks (3B) $10

SP - Gio $18
SP - Scherzer $21
SP - J. Zimmerman $16
SP -
SP -
SP/RP -
RP - Motte $20
RP - Jansen $17
RP -

The above 14 totals $303 so I can only take on $17 more in salary.

Who should I keep?

Is there anyone I should not be keeping out of the guys listed above?

Others I can select from;

Konerko (1B) $27
Rollins (SS) $22
Reddick (OF) $15
Eaton (OF) $15
Bonifacio (2B,OF) - $20

Gallardo (SP) $34
CJ Wilson (SP) $20
Cahill (SP) $18
Balfour (RP) $15

I was thinking he's the guy, but I'm worried about average with him, Santana and Trumbo. Are 3 lower Avg guys killers?

That is the reason I was debating Eaton or Balfour (but I hate keeping closers).

Reddick as well. I still want to see what Eaton can do in a full season. Not keeping another closer here.

I'd like Gallardo and Rollins should have some value to other teams? if you're not keeping either you should see about maybe some offseason trades?

Was playing around with the numbers.

Should I keep;

Reddick $15, Motte $20, Jansen $17

or

Rollins $22 and then 2 of the following 3; Reddick $15, Jansen $17, Balfour $15.

If I do the latter who do I keep?

In the last group I think Balfour is the odd man out. I would rather keep Reddick and Jansen. So the questions boils down to Motte vs Rollins and I would have to take the hitter over the closer. Even one as good as Motte.

Ok, I've decided to keep Rollins. Reddick is out. I want to keep 2 RP due to the nature of the league. Which pair do I keep?

Motte ($20) and David Hernandez ($11)

or

Balfour ($15) and Jansen($17)

Motte side. Balfour couldn't hold the job last year and Jansen isn't the closer right now. Hard to keep two RP that haven't been able to hold the job.

Have to ask though why not Motte and Jansen? Too much money? I would rather have either Balfour or Jansen than Hernandez if that could happen.

I only have $32 left for the 2 closers so If I keep Motte I have to keep Hernandez. I can mix and match the other 3 anyway I want.
