Reynolds can be a dumbass sometimes when it comes to stats, but I like his take on stuff like this; very well-reasoned. I didn't realize a lot of the components of this rule. Props to Harold for explaining this well.

People thought this was one of the worst calls they'd ever seen, but after watching this, I think it was okay.

The only problem I see there is the ball may have been at its peak when the ump looked at the player but he looked at the player too long and by the time he called infield fly the ball was on top of them.... Timing doesn't look the same either in the Cubs game that they show after...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Harold Reynolds is just wrong. That's really all there is to it.
Of course I'm a Braves fan that drank a whole bottle of Wild Turkey after that game, so...

Just to underscore why I said he was wrong (Because I'm a bitter Braves fan right now, all I have left is to cheer for the Orioles!)

From http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/gamecast?gameId=321005115&top&wjb=:
Quote:
To put Friday's controversial play into context, in the past three seasons, there were six infield flies that were not caught in the majors, according to Baseball Info Solutions, the longest measured at 178 feet.

Friday's infield fly was measured at 225 feet from home plate, according to Baseball Info Solutions.

Not only was it nearly 50 feet further from the longest one called in the last three years, like Grey said, they waited way too long to call it. If they had called it early we might have disagreed with it, but we'd have much less to complain about.

The way he called it, it looks like he waited until he realized Lozmo wasn't going to catch it and then called infield fly. I realize that's probably not what he meant to do, but he didn't call it until everyone knew it was dropping and that completely defeats the purpose of the rule itself which is to alert base runners that they are safe.

Yeah, I agree with you... The call was kinda bonkers... I don't think he called it when he knew the guy wasn't going to call it, but he called it too late and way too deep...

Yeah, some calls it's just best to go ahead and get them out of the way instead of waiting... Waiting that long just makes it look like you aren't sure about the call when you make it.
He could have at least Jim Joyce'd it and be wrong early and cry about it after... It'd be harder to be mad then!

Doof! Horrendous call, in my opinion, and sickening to see MLB (in the form of Joe Torre) back the ump to the hilt. The dude screwed up... just be honest about that. It wasn't as bad as the non-touchdown the replacement refs gave Seattle in the Green Bay game, but it was pretty bad nonetheless.

I think MLB should give instructions to the right-field and left-field umpires they add during the playoffs: leave infield fly rule calls to the infield umps. The optics are all wrong having an umpire in the outfield call the infield fly rule on a pop-up when the infield umps chose not to.
