Scully's Droppin Knowledge

Postby royce! » Fri Jul 11, 2008 8:06 pm

Watching the Dodgers game... Just learned about the Volstead Act (reinforced Prohibition!), that Volstad's parents are a dentist and a hygienist, and that the name "Uggla" has been around since the 13th century. I actually paused to give Vin a chance to drop some more knowledge before I posted this, but he was just going on about the Marlins scouting Volstad.

The most amazing part, however, is that Scully's first question when he heard Volstad's name was how it was spelled, b/c it reminded him of the Volstead Act. I believe he said something like, "If you have studied history at all, you know about the Volstead Act."

He's a trip, right? I love Scully.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

In the 9th, talked about the Volstead Act again, and then tied it into Volstad "prohibiting" the Dodgers. Pure gold.

Also, in all seriousness, I know the Dodgers haven't had the best offense this year (or in recent years) but Volstad looks amazing tonight (as I was writing this, Scully, speaking of Volstad and the Marlins: "A little child shall lead them") and I'm thinking of using my #3 waiver priority for him. I have no offensive holes to fill, and have basically been waiting for Price to come up or someone in my league to make a horrible drop. Too trigger happy of me?

Honestly, didn't watch him tonight, but his numbers and everything I've heard is promising, as in 3rd starter potential promising. Could he come up and fool people who have never seen him before and be a bit more than that? Sure. I'd take the flier.

Fred Thompson, actually. Losing the primary has been the best thing that ever happened to me, since now I have loads of time to check BABIPs on fangraphs!
