Taylor Buchholz vs. Manny Corpas...

Buchholz pitched the 8th today, and Corpas the 7th. Which one is in the lead for saves if Fuentes is traded? (I just edited this to reflect Steve's comment below...thx)

Hmmm - think Corpas got 2 outs in the 7th, Buchholz pitched the 8th (a Hold for me!) and Fuentes closed it out.

Corpas has the big contract and I would think they'd want him back in there. BTW, good picture.

Two of my three closers have now been traded to become set-up men: Rauch and Marte. I think Rauch has a shot at closing in AZ; Marte, obviously, not in NYC, so Marte goes in favor of Jim Johnson.

Any educated guesses on the mess in St. Louis? I grabbed McClellan in the RCL, and he's available in my Regular League. Other closers in jeopardy? I'm panicking here people. PANICKING.

If KC decides to put Soria in the rotation, I will come down with a big pile of soria in my pants.

I wouldn't hold out any hope for McClellan becoming a closer. He's never done it and I've really been surprised by how well he's pitched this year.

None of the other guys give me hope either, especially Izzy. Cards are going fishing for a lefty reliever but obviously the best one just got away.

That leaves, hmmm, Wainwright for August.* Mark my words.

Oakland closer update:

In an interview, the SF Chronicle A's reporter is convinced that, if Street is traded, Joey Devine will be the closer for Oakland when he comes off the DL. He may not jump right into the role his first game back, she said, but he was brought over from Atlanta because he's got closer stuff.

Devine is scheduled to pitch a rehab game on Monday.

If Street is moved before Devine is back - or if Devine struggles - I'm thinking the A's may go by committee... with Casilla getting the first shot.

Straight from the Post Dispatch today.

"The Cardinals have not ruled out having Wainwright return to the bullpen, possibly as the team's closer. GM John Mozeliak said 'that is on the table as far his his role' but it will be discussed next week as Wainwright approaches a rehab appearance."

"When he's ready to pitch," pitching coach Dave Duncan said, "that's when we'll start thinking about that."

Trust me, they're already thinking about that.

Carlos Beltran can't stop thinking about it.

That was a pretty uneventful trade deadline.
