In search of saves

Steals/Saves Ain't Got No Face. Closers and speed talk. Which MRs are moving in? Which schmohawk speedster is getting steals at MI?

In search of saves

Postby BKK » Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:14 am

The Padres can't seem to win and, when lightning strikes and they do win, it seems to be by 7 runs. Wheeler was mentioned in yesterdays post mordem. Would he be a better source of saves than Hoffman.

What about Mike Gonzalez?

What is this, a H2H? Go with Wheeler.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

If Wheeler's available and you need saves, definitely pick him up. If I'm able, I always grab guys currently getting save opportunities before prospecting on future closers.

That said, I'm about ready to pull the trigger on Colorado's Taylor Buchholz in one league. According to the newswires, Fuentes could be traded in the next week or 2. He's next in line, guys in that league are quick, and I'm desperate. But, in most leagues, one doesn't need to plan so far ahead. Picking up a Wheeler or Gonzalez is always preferable, if possible.

Trade Hoffman. Grab either Marte, Wheeler, M-Gonz. Obviously, Wheeler will bring more opportunities.

No, its a points league. 10pts for a save. Hoffman has done nothing in the past 3 weeks or should I say the Padres. I will definitely push for Roto next year. You get little reward for K's and nothing for WHIP and ERA.

Thanks for the help all.

Sorry, I put this in the injuries discussion, I was reading on Capps and hit post new topic not thinking about where it was going.

Maybe one more question. This league has two RP spots and 5 SP spots, no "P". There are 11 teams so lots of closers are available.

Street, CJ Wilson, Fuentes, Izzy, Franklin, Wheeler vs Hoffman. Who is my best source of saves going forward?

My other closer is K-rod, so I just would like a little contribution, I am not expecting him to carrying the team or anything.

Who do you guys think will become the A's closer if Huston Street gets traded? I'm asking for Santiago Casilla as a trade throw-in. Joey Devine had a setback in rehab and probably won't be back for a month.

Wilson, Hoffman, Street, Fuentes, Franklin, Izzy, Wheeler, in that order.

Casilla or Foulke, neither have been especially great. I'd say Casilla first, but it might just be a time share if Street leaves or gets injured.

Interesting, I just grabbed CJ last night after Maddon went with Balfour. I was tempted to grab him before but everyone seems so down on CJ but he has 20 saves on the season and has only blown 2. So I made a decision on my own and picked up CJ.

This seemed better than the possible 'closer by committee' situation in TB.

Thanks Grey.
