I just can't see Coke closing for an extended period of time for Leyland.

In my opinion, it'll either be Alburquerque (since there are a ton of guys in the front office who supposedly want him to close), Benoit (who's probably the RP who has the best mix of experience and talent), or they'll trade for a guy.

Just my gut...

Coke too with Benoit

I don't think you've said a correct thing in this thread at all. From what everyone is saying it's going to be a closer by committee and whoever gets hot might run with it. Benoit is old and apparently can't go in back to back games. Coke isn't a very reliable reliever and Al squared can't stay healthy. No one however is talking very much about the reliever with the most experience, Dotel. He's been pretty good for the past of years for Detroit, but is also old and an injury risk.

So it's going to be a wait and see. Whoever get's that first save is going to get picked up really quick though.

Do not sleep on Villarreal .....

My money's on AA though

Leylands past comments on Benoit make me think he's not even considered

I know the tigers better than any team. They are trying to trade for another reliever. Coke won't get all the saves, but he will vs teams like the yankees and twins who have big lefty bats. Jim leyland loves to play those match ups. The tigers are going slow with al. He is exciting. But they will call up and try Rondon, and also likely trade for an arm before al is made the "closer". Benoit also looked pretty good this March. They also have dotel back from the wbc. I think al al is a big reach for any kind of saves which is why I am insistent. I am not just speaking out of my ass.

If you could site something other than "your gut", might help your argument. Its committee now, no one knows.

Sure. Use a roster spot for the awesome Al Alburquerque. Wait until Tuesday and wonder if Mark Melancon or Al Alburquerque is more likely to get saves the rest of the year. Then a week later ask about Jon Rauch. Instead you can hold on to Al Alburquerque until July and see him blow his save on his first ninth inning appearance before going back to pitching the 7th twice a week. Sometimes you have to look outside of fantasy land for fantasy stats.

Guys, let's try to stick to the topic at hand --

Is Leyland a Marlboro or a Camel guy? My money's on good, old fashioned reds for Ol' Smoke.
