Grey, I swear I'm not trying to start an argument. I love you site and value your insights very much. But if you think League is getting the job back, why post on the main page that "paying" for him doesn't...pay.
The point is that there's no need to pay for saves since it's one of the most easily added stats from the FA pool over the course of the season. It's not a hard concept. If you've got a quick trigger finger, you could have accumulated saves from:
Jansen, HanK-Rod, Lidge, Dolis, Downs, Freiri, Cishek, Cordero, Janssen, Aceves, Balfour, Fuentes, Santiago, Reed, Strop, Cruz, and now Wilhelmsen (probably). And that's just off of the top of my head.
Meanwhile people that paid for Rivera, Storen, Bell, Marmol, Walden, and Bailey could have used those early-mid round picks on someone like Gio Gonzales, Jordan Zimmermann, or Carlos Beltran.
It's a lot harder to add 20/20 or 15W/175K from the WW than it is to mix and match for 125 saves on the year.
Get it?
