If you could get a top tier starter for Pence I could see that as helping you out, but I wouldn't accept less than a Lincecum/CC type... Pence will have a chance to hit in a much better lineup than he's accustomed to, in a hitter's ballpark, and for the first time in his career, something to play for in September. With that being said, there's a chance that Pence playing so far from home (Was born in Texas, spent two of his minor league years in Texas, and then played for Houston) in a situation where he suddenly has pressure on him, he could choke, which is why I think he'd definitely be worth a top pitcher. Less than that, though, doesn't seem worth it, because usually you can get some pretty good streaming starts in September as pitchers face teams that are resting their starters because they've locked the playoffs, or because they're out of it and are playing young guys.
