I'm sure most long-time fantasy players remember Hinske's rookie year, but he hasn't been fantasy-relevant since then, and that was back in 2002.
This year might change that, though...
Hinske started out the year with the Braves as a backup 3B/1B/OF. He usually was reserved for pinch hitting opportunities, and he made the most of them. He had 6 RBI's in his first 11 at bats.
What's more impressive is the fact that he's hitting over .450 with runners on, and right around .500 with runners in scoring position. He's crushing the ball when it counts.
Now he's getting regular playing time as a starter. Since he took over, he's gone 10-21 with a HR, 5 doubles, and 9 RBI. Yeah, that's pretty good.
Overall he's hitting .360 with a HR and 17 RBI in only 50 at bats.
What do all of you think about Hinske keeping this torrid pace up? Obviously I don't think he'll hit .360 for the year, but is a .300/20/80 line out of the question for Hinske? Is he worth grabbing in 12 team mixed leagues, at least until he cools off? Personally I'm considering adding him, I just don't know who to drop.
