Hoffman and qualls?? Time to panic??

Postby Derekjeterss » Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:12 pm

With the recent struggles of Hoffman and qualls, there is talk of possible replacements or at least co replacements. While I didn't expect either to be top closers, I do however was hoping to bank 60 saves between the two. Is this a tempory hiccup or do I panic and trade my strenght to secure anoter closer or possibly 2. Now arizonas setup man is available but if I pick him up I have to drop qualls. See the delemma. We have no bench! What to do.

I don't know that there's much to do in your situation.

Juan Gutierrez has value, but still not as much as Qualls.
Hoffman is horrible right now and it may not get better, but there is no clear handcuff. In a league with no bench, you can't really go dropping closers for guys with unclear roles. You can't drop closers for set-up men.

Whatever you do, don't trade for a closer.

No bench should mean there's plenty of waiver options. Just be sure to be the first to pounce should Hoffman or Qualls lose their closing gig. (Just a hunch, but I'd guess they'll have to make up a injury for Hoffman before they straight-up bench him. That'll make it easier to decipher, I think.)
