Given he's a flyball pitcher off to bad start, do we really need Thames in left with the lineup they put on the field otherwise?

Don't think Girardi can be fully blamed for Vazquez's terribleness.

Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Javy's problems lie in the AL, not in Girardi. To not even be able to go 5 innings is pretty pathetic considering this guy was a Cy Young candidate last year.

Actually, if anyone hates Vazquez from NY it's Steinbrenner. Hasn't he seen this enough before to know he's not worth anything in NY?

I'm not saying that Girardi is at fault, but you would think that he'd give vaz as much help as possible and putting thames in left absolutely cost him 2 runs, as Gardner would have made the play.

His environment is definitely tougher than last year, but that's not all that's causing his problems.

Vasquez has lost about a little over 2 MPH on his fastball from last year (91.1 average to 88.8 average). Predictably, hitters are getting much more contact against him when swinging (80.3% this year, 73.3% last year).

Might be age, might be some sort of injury, but either way Vasquez has not been himself and you can't just blame Girardi/Thames/The AL.
